JOSE ROMERO CHAVEZ, 92, of Española died Thursday after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leonides Chavez, and son, Joseph Chavez.
He was like a grandfather and father to his adoptive family.
He is survived by his two grandsons; close friend who thought of him as a father, Filimon Vigil and wife Ramona of Española; seven adoptive grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A public visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan Pueblo with burial to follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Cemetery in Española.

MARY D. SANCHEZ, 94, of Santa Fe died Tuesday after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicolas Sanchez; son, Elias Nieto; and sisters, Bernice Romero and Katalina Blea.
She was born in Santa Fe, the daughter of Luciano and Agripina Dimas Rae. She was a great housewife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary N. Giron and husband Waldo; son, Julian Nieto and wife Corrine; and daughter, Margaret F. Thompson.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

CLARA APODACA, 83, of Santa Fe, died Tuesday.
She was born in the home of her parents where she resided for her entire life. She was a woman who adored children and throughout her lifetime, she took on the role of second mother to many, both related and not.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Gregorita Apodaca; sisters, Lourdes Marquez, Madge Kwasek and Lala Barela; and brother, James Apodaca.
She is survived by her sister, Josie Yost and husband Maurice; half sister, Martha Montoya; guardians: nephew, Don Kwasek and wife Jamie, niece, Pat Kehler and husband åRandy and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at the Rosario Chapel immediately followed by burial at Rosario Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to any organization that assists small children such as Las Familia Medical Center at 982-4599 or the Carmelites of Santa Fe.

DOLORES BARRY, 69, of Nambe, died Friday.
She was born to Jose R. and Juanita B. Valdez. She loved to weave, quilt, create ceramics and cook. She was a friend to everyone, young and old and welcomed all with open arms. She loved to travel and spend time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Barry; brothers, Hilario and wife, Lou; Valentin and wife, Fermina, and Benancio and wife, Viola.
She is survived by her children, Anthony Barry and wife, Mahilea; Deacon Danny Valdez and wife, Norma; Patricia Fernandez and husband, Albert; Doreen Nevarez, Richard Barry and wife, Patsy; Joseph Gomez and wife Ann, and Carmella Rodriguez; sisters, Ruby Roybal and husband, Ray; Anna Trujillo and husband, John, and Ambrosia Hutt; 13 grandchildren; over 40 foster children; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. today at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with burial to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

ALFRED JOHN BARTH, 93, of Santa Fe died Friday after a brief illness.
He was born in Sumner, Iowa, son of Emril and Anna Barth. Following a brief high school education, he served five years in the U.S. Army during the World War II, where he met his wife-to-be. He married, then settled in Santa Fe where he acquired a trade in refrigeration and small engine repair. He retired at age 80, though he would work until his vision no longer allowed. He was most noted for being a genuine friend and adopted grandfather to the community around him. To his own grandchildren, he was a man who gave his love unconditionally and never stopped giving of himself until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Barth; son, Robert "Bob" Barth and other siblings.
He is survived by his two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Cathedral with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

ANTONIO (TONY) DURAN, 90, of Albuquerque, died Saturday.
He was born to to Lucia and Rafael Duran in Rodarte. He was a lifelong resident of New Mexico. He was a grand storyteller and a 1936 McCurdy Mission graduate.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Barnes); infant daughter, Mary Margaret; sister, Soledea; brothers, Telesfor, Precopio, and Dennis; and stepbrothers, Amadeo, Frank, and Avenicio Lucero.
He is survived by his daughter, Concha Brown and husband Raymond, Doris June Moreno and husband Ben; sons, David and wife Judy, and Charles; nine grandchildren; stepsister, Lena Goodheart; and many other relatives.
A celebration of his life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Cristo de Valle Presbyterian Church, 3907 Isleta SW, Albuquerque, preceded by visitation.
The family requests memorials be made to the Dorothy and Antonio Duran Scholarship Fund at McCurdy School, 261 McCurdy Road, Española, NM 87532.
