ART GREENWOOD of Los Alamos died October 10 of a massive heart attack.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday at the Berardinelli Family Chapel, 1399 Luisa St.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Rio Grande Wildlife Center, P.O. Box 246, Española, New Mexico 87532; Santa Fe Animal Shelter, 1920 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe NM 87505 or a charity of your choice.

JOE (NICK) LERMA, 72, of Santa Fe died Sunday after a sudden illness.
He was born in Mountainair, the son of the late Timoteo and Antonia Lerma. He was raised on a ranch in Punta de Agua until he was 12 years old, and then moved to Santa Fe with his family in 1942. He attended Santa Fe High school where he met and married his childhood sweetheart Cecilia Gurule. He was employed for Chrysler for over 25 years as a mechanic and later retired from the Santa Fe Public School Transportation Department. He enjoyed bowling, the outdoors and family sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia R. Lerma; daughter, Roberta (Ruby) Lerma; and brother, Xavier Abey Lerma.
He is survived by his children, Jeff and JoAnn Dieringer, Lorraine Lovato, Janice and "Abel" Luevano, Joey and Michelle Lerma, Tim Lerma and Cindy and Ramon Cuestas; brothers and sisters, Andy and Josie Lerma, Lucy Teaney, Wilfred and Flora Lerma, Becky and Albert Lucero, Abel and Lydia Lerma, Isaac Lerma and Johnny, Diana Lerma; 14 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the same church with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery.

AMALIA G. MARTINEZ, 92, of Santa Fe died Friday.
She was born in EI Rancho, the daughter of the late Elfego Gomez and Candelarita (Quintana) Gomez. She was widowed at a young age after four years of marriage to her first husband, Carmen Lujan. She married her second husband Leopoldo (Paul) Martinez in 1948. Over the course of her life she worked at the Morton Ranch in Abiquiu, at the New Mexico School for the Deaf, as head dietician at St. Francis Cathedral School, and as a sales assistant at J.C. Penney on the plaza. She had been retired for 25 years. In her later years she was fond of swimming and exercise. She was known for her thrifty ways and extraordinary resilience.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leopoldo Paul.
She is survived by her children, Gloria Holladay of Santa Fe, Barbara Blue Spruce of Staten Island, and Leo Martinez and wife Sharon of Oakland, Calif.; eight grandchildren; sisters, Ermelinda Herrera of Santa Fe and Estella Valencia of EI Rancho; brother, Elfego Gomez, Jr. and wife Elsie of Colorado Springs; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today at Berardinelli Family Chapel followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Cathedral.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul, 1088 Early Street, Santa Fe.

MABEL PACHECO, 69, of Truchas died Monday after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Marvin and Ricky Pacheco; parents, Simon and zEmilia Ortiz; sisters, Rosie, Della, and Helen; and brother, Abel Pacheco.
She is survived by her husband, Arquin Pacheco; children, Harold Pacheco and wife Cecilia, Harvey and Randy Pacheco, all of Truchas, Danny Pacheco and wife Doris, Patsy Dixon and Diana Pacheco, Beverly Pacheco and husband Benjie Martinez, all of Española, Elmer Pacheco and wife Diane of Chamisal, and Desiree Pacheco of Santa Cruz; grandson raised like a son, Robbie Pacheco and companion Rosanne Gallegos of Rio Chama; brother, Ben Ortiz of Santa Fe; sisters, Sophia Jaramillo, Bernie Sanchez and husband Fidel, all of Santa Fe, Shirley Portline and husband Gary and Flora Hankins and husband Jimmy, all of Albuquerque; 27 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home followed by a devotional service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (call funeral home for location) with burial to follow at San Miguel Cemetery in Truchas.

MAX PACHECO, 75, of Ranchitos died Sunday after a long illness.
He enjoyed fishing and camping. He belonged to the I.B.E.W. He enjoyed his frequent trips to the casinos.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosina M. Pacheco; parents, Adelaido and Samuelita Pacheco; brother, Samuel Pacheco; and father and mother-in-law, Jose Blas and Juanita Maestas.
He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Pacheco of Ranchitos; three grandchildren; brothers, Arturo Pacheco and wife Frances of Ranchitos and Eppie Pacheco; sisters, Bernie Rendon and husband Pete of Velarde, Anita Archuleta and husband Dilio and Pearl Vigil, all of Ranchitos, Susie Martinez and husband Jose of Las Cruces and Cleo Pacheco of Phoenix; and many other relatives and friends.
A public visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist church in San Juan Pueblo with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

IRENE G. SANCHEZ of Santa Fe died Sunday of cancer.
She was born in Trinidad, Colo. and moved to Santa Fe in 1941. She was married to a Bataan veteran, the late Frank E. Sanchez. She graduated from Loretto Academy in 1946, where she served as her senior class valedictorian and was awarded "outstanding student of the year." She received a full scholarship to attend college at Loretto Heights in Colorado. She returned to Santa Fe where she worked for the U.S. Selective Service Department. She later worked at Eberline Instrument Corporation for over 30 years as an administrative assistant and an accountant. She retired from Eberline in 1992. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church parish for 52 years. She served as president of St. John's Altar Society. Most recently, she taught kindergarten children.
She is survived by her children, Edward and Mary Eileen of Miami and Denver; sister, Emily; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, as per her request, send memorial contributions to her church, St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church, 1301 Osage Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Berardinelli Family Chapel. A second rosary will be recited by the Altar Society at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church with Mass to follow at 9 a.m. and burial to be held at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Elks Lodge BPOE, 1615 Old Pecos Trail Santa Fe.

MICHAEL B. VALDEZ, 32, of Ranchitos died Saturday after a short illness.
He was a musician, winning numerous awards including a Northern New Mexico Hispano Music award. He was an excellent songwriter and was nominated for "Songwriter of the Year." He played with several bands— La LLuvia, Perfeccion, La Gente, Cielo Azul and later creating his own band, El Fierro Negro.
He is survived by his mother, Elvira Valdez and Richard Dominguez of Ranchitos; fiancee, Jolene Ramsey of Ranchitos; and daughter, Mariah Valdez.
A visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the Sacred Heart Church in Española with a wake service to follow at 6:30 p.m. and rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the same church with burial to follow at Cañones Cemetery.
