VICTOR M. MARTINEZ, 56, of Santa Fe died Dec. 15 after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Pino and Eduvigen Martinez; sister, Rita Lucero and brother, Leonard Martinez.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise Leal and husband Vince, Annette Varela and husband Jeff; and Elena Martinez; sister, Jennie Morelos; brothers, Vincent and wife Terri Martinez, Dan and wife Toni Martinez and Rick Martinez; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at St. Francis Cathedral with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery.

GERALDINE LAMOREUX BLACK, 74, of Santa Fe died Sunday.
She was born in Santa Fe. She lived her life praising God and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Truett L. Black.
She is survived by her sons, Jim E. Black and wife Martha of Santa Fe and David Black and wife Claudia of Albuquerque; and four grandchildren.

HERMAN "CHAVS" CHAVEZ, 46, of Chili unexpectedly died Monday.
He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gabriel J. Chavez and brothers, Guilermo and Anurfo Chavez.
He is survived by his mother, Gregorita J. Chavez of Chili; companion, Darlene Archuleta of Chili; brother, Manuel Chavez and wife Kim of Chili; sisters, Dolly Montoya and husband Ben of Chili and Zennie Rendon and husband Abel of El Llano; stepson, Larry Archuleta of El Llano; one granddaughter; close nieces and nephew, Alexis Martinez-Trujillo, Melissa Gallegos and Nathaniel Trujillo of Ojo Caliente; and many other relatives and friends.
A public visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz with burial to follow at the Chili Cemetery.

JONATHAN ALDEN KENDALL, 65, of Española died Dec. 8.
He was a unique artist, known as "the termites," with wood work across the United States and foreign countires.
He is survived by many friends and acquaintances in Santa Fe and Tucson.

JENARO ALFONSO MARES, 95, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Sunday.
He was born in Dawson to the late Enrique Mares and Paulita Lorenzano Mares. He graduated from Dawson High School. He worked as a mentor in Dawson and as a copper miner in Arizona. While working in Dawson, he checked and posted the daily weights of the miners, as he had the confidence of both the union and management. He served as secretary/treasurer of the local union and attended a national convention in the 1940s with John L. Lewis. After leaving Dawson, he attended New Mexico Highlands University, from which he received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He taught school in Rociada, Rowe and Gonzales Ranch before he was named principal of North Public School, a position he held for several years. An avid golfer, his friends established the Jenaro Mares Immortal Tournament in his honor. The tournament continued for 15 years. His favorite claim to fame was that he shot a 78 at the age of 79. He continued to play until 2001, when he was 92 years old.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Antonia; and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his brother, Joe Mares of Lakewood, Colo.; sons, Ted Mares of Las Vegas, N.M., and Dan Mares of Roswell; daughters, Ella Mares of Rio Rancho, Louise Mulcock and husband Bud of Albuquerque, Roberta Miles and husband Dan of Stone Mountain, Ga.; many grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 8 at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel.

MICHAEL E. NARANJO, 42, of La Mesilla died Sunday after a long illness.
He was a kind and compassionate person. He was a well-respected barber/cosmetologist. He had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories. He had a passion for music. He was a great musician who loved playing the guitar and teaching others about music. He was a gifted songwriter and excelled at many activities. He was a very spiritual person who enjoyed reading and learning about God and scriptures and loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Mike and Juvela Naranjo of San Pedro; brothers and sisters, Donna Naranjo, Annette Naranjo, both of Alcalde, Tina Naranjo of Fairview, Michele Naranjo of San Pedro, Donald Naranjo and wife Carlene of Ranchitos, Ramon Naranjo and wife Jennifer of Reno, Nev.; fiancé, Anna Griego and son, Zene Griego of La Mesilla; close nephews, Joshua and Dakota; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz.

JOSEPH R. BARBER, 86, of Santa Fe died Monday after a long illness.
He was born in Tyndall, S.D., the son of James and Elizabeth Barber. He married Kathleen Barber in 1945 in Leicester, England.
