AARON P. VALDEZ, 29, of El Llano died unexpectedly Monday.
He was a great person who loved the outdoors. He was a hard worker and always had a smile on his face.
He is survived by his parents, Archie and Annabelle Valdez of El Llano; brothers, Gabriel and Chris Valdez of El Llano and Vincent Valdez and wife Cristal of Chimayó; sister, Crystal Valdez of El Llano; special niece, Alexis Valdez of El Llano; companion, Nina Barela of San Pedro; close cousin, Johnny Marquez of El Llano; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. today at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the same church with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

SOPHIA ALECK, 89, of Santa Fe died Dec. 28.
Sophia was a member of St. Elias Greek Orthodox Church.
She is survived by her sons, James Maryol and wife Ann and Kirk Aleck and wife Mary Lou; daughters, Georgia Maryol, Eva Kurtz, Toni Maryol, Chrisa Cazamias and husband James; sister, Athena Patsalis; 12 grandchildren; and many other friends.
A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 30 followed by a service at 7 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Dec. 31 at St. Elias Greek Orthodox Church with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Albuquerque.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Elias Greek Orthodox Church or the American Red Cross.

FELIPITA GALLEGOS, 87, died Dec. 25 at Alta Vista Regional Hospital.
She was born to Jose Ramon Vialpando and Libradita Salazar Vialpando in Guadalupita. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Cofradia de Nuestro Padre Jesus de Guadalupita.
Services have taken place with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

THELMA E. HOLIDAY, 45, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Dec. 27 at Vida Encantada Rehab Center.
She was born in Oakland, Calif., to Lee Marquez and Dolores Armijo Marquez. She was a student at Luna Community College and New Mexico Highlands University.
She is survived by her parents, Lee and Dolores Marquez, both of Las Vegas, N.M.; sister, Marla Armijo of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Dec. 30 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 31 at the same church with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

LEROY P. "WIMPY" LOPEZ, 57, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Dec. 24.
He was born in Las Vegas, N.M., to Arcenia and Pedro Lopez.
Services have taken place. Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. (not at 10 a.m. as previously announced) Dec. 31 at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

GERALDINE FUJIKO TAKAHASHI, 84, of Santa Fe died Dec. 26.
She was the niece of Julia Takahashi, local architect and community planner. She was born to Katsutsuke (nee Tan) and Kikue Okamoto Takahashi in Seattle. She was a registered nurse, serving in the private field and in hospitals.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, William, John and Masaru.
She is survived by her sister, Hide Deng; special nieces, Julia and Tama Takahashi, Chris Thompson, and Harriett Makeuchi; and many other relatives.
There will be no local services. A private family service will be held at a later date.

JOSE MANUEL BACA, 83, of Santa Fe died Monday.
He was a master mason and contractor until his retirement. He created and constructed many traditional, one-of-a-kind Southwestern style homes. He was a World War II veteran, member of American Legion Post 1, Santa Fe District and a member of St. Anne Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Elena) Baca; son, David F. Baca and wife Wynona; daughters, Jewel (Bertha) Cabeza de Vaca, Gloria Felipita Baca, Marie Roybal, Dorothy Jane LongChase and Angie Baca; six grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today at St. Anne Catholic Church with burial to follow at 3 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Please join the family after burial services for a reception at the Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE 2811 at 833 Early St., 983-7171.

TONY SALAZAR, 56, of Chamita died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, in an accident.
He was known to many by his nickname "Torbs."
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Frances Salazar; stepfather, Jose Miguel Maestas; sister, JoAnn Maestas; and brothers, Lencho Maestas and Leo Gonzales.
He is survived by his father, Robert Tafoya and wife Mary; sisters, Loretta Gonzales and husband Guadalupe of Colorado, Jennie Atencio and husband Lolo of El Duende, Darlene Maestas and Humberto Bobadilla of Velarde, JoAnn Villalba and Rosalio Avila of Chamita; special nephews and nieces, Charles, Lee, Randy, Christa, Robert, Charlene, Joey, Graciela, Vanessa, Michael, Loreen, Loretta, Gilbert, Rosemary, Brenda, Debbie, Moises, Christopher; close friend, Victor Martinez; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at San Juan Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the same church with burial to follow at San Pedro Cemetery in Chamita.

JOSE V. SENA, 56, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, after a brief illness.
He was born in Los Torres and was educated in Las Vegas, N.M. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 3, 1942, and served his country in the Central Burma Campaign with Company C 1880th Engineers Avn Batallion. While grading a road in Burma, he ran into a land mine and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged Dec. 27, 1945. He married Maria Victoria Otero Sept. 28, 1946, in Las Vegas, N.M. He worked in his younger years for Black's Grocery Store, Wester Brothers Produce and Farmway Feed. He was a heavy equipment operator for District 4 of the state Highway Department for 16 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Refugio and Rosario Fresquez Quintana; brothers, Trinnie and Max Quintana; and sisters, Eva Smith and Justa Armijo.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vickie of Las Vegas, N.M.; sons, Manuel Ignacio Sena and wife Jenna of Albuquerque, Leroy Sena and Diane of Fayetteville, N.C., Eddie King and wife Kathy, Richard Sena and wife Carol, and George Sena, all of Las Vegas, N.M., and Joseph Sena and wife Jessica of Santa Fe; daughters, Loretta Silva and husband Steve, Antonia Montano and husband Mike, and Virginia Apodaca and husband Tony, all of Las Vegas, Rose Mary Nygaard of Maricopa, Ariz., and Laura Silva and husband Luis of Rociada; sister, Theresa Quintana Benavidez of Montezuma; special nephew, Eddie Gomez and wife Carmen of Montezuma; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday in the St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Church. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at the same church with burial to follow in the Sociadad de San Antonio Cemetery.

MARY ALICE VALERIO, 64, of Española died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, after a long illness.
She was a member of the Toastmasters and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former president of the Ladies Auxiliary and Mana del Norte. She was a quilting teacher at Northern New Mexico Community College and an office manager at the Family Learning Center. She was employed by the State Police for six years and retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Crescencio and Domecinda Gallegos; brother, Major Luis Gallegos; and son, G. James Valerio.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Valerio of Española; son, F. Michael Valerio of Las Vegas, Nev., and Phillip Valerio and wife JoAnn of Española; daughter, Melissa Herrera and husband Joel of Montana; five grandchildren; sisters, Dora Vigil and husband Arthur and Sadie Piper, all of Raton; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz.
