GEORGE HATCH, 69, of Questa died Monday.
He served as area manager at Sandia Peak ski area until 1969 when he was named area manager at Red River Ski Area. In 1973 he moved to Taos Ski Valley to become mountain manager for Ernie Blake. For the next dozen years he helped shape the growth of New Mexico's busiest ski resort before moving on to start Ski Rio. He excelled in lift and vehicle maintenance. Three generations of New Mexico skiers have enjoyed the fruits of his labor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George J. and Dorothea Ruddy Hatch; and sister, Dorothea Stalcup.
He is survived by his children, Barbara, Donald, Ian and Quinn Hatch; three grandchildren; brother, Tom Hatch; sisters, Mary Hatch, Debby Randall and Monica Blanchard; and former spouses, India Hatch and Evelyn Hatch.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church in Ranchos de Taos. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Hotel St. Bernard at the Taos Ski Valley.

ESCOLASTICA V. MARES, 92, of Santa Fe died Tuesday.
She was born in Cundiyo, the daughter of the late Juan and Cecelia Vigil. She attended St. Vincent Convent School, worked at The Pink Adobe, Salazar's Mexican Kitchen and The Pantry as a cook for many years. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Liberato Mares; son, Jose Rubel Mares; sisters, Frances Vigil, Monica Coriz and Irene Mares; and brother, Emiliano Vigil.
She is survived by her sons, Joe Larry Mares and Gilbert Mares and wife Faye; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at 2 p.m. today with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery.

MARY T. SANDOVAL, 97, of Santa Fe died Friday.
She was born in Peņa Blanca, the daughter of the late Carmilita and Marcos Sandoval. She was a graduate of New Mexico Highlands University where she earned her teaching degree. She held teaching positions as an elementary school teacher in Waldo, Cerrillos and San Isidro. She taught at Cochiti for 17 years and later taught in San Juan for 13 years. After retirement she moved to Casa Real Health Care Center where she participated in many activities including their residence counsel.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Amerante, Felipe, Salamon and Frank Sandoval; and sisters, Rose Dimas and Lupita Cantu.
She is survived by her brother, Marcos Sandoval of Albuquerque; sister, Zulema Salazar of San Diego; and many other relatives and friends.
Services have taken place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial at Rosario Cemetery.

AMARANTE T. VALERIO, 87, of Ranchos de Taos died Tuesday.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarita Duran Valerio.
He is survived by his children, Irma Montoya and husband David of Santa Fe, Frank Valerio and wife Beatrice, Tito Valerio, Billy Valerio and Joseph Valerio and wife Lindy, all of Ranchos de Taos; ten grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at the new Llano Quemado Cemetery.

CHRISTINE ISABEL VIGIL, 39, of Santa Fe died Monday. She was born in Santa Fe to Cristobal Vigil and Frances Rodriguez. She was a loving, kind and joyful spirit.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her children, Cristobal and Rosa Celado; mother, Frances; brother, Leonard Franco; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial at a later date.

DOROTHY (TILBURY) BARNES, 79, of Santa Fe died Dec. 28, 2004. She was a former professor of music at the University of Idaho and noted area singer. She was born in Kellogg, Idaho to Bertha Wheadon and Milan Jasper Tilbury. She earned her bachelor's of science degree in music education from the University of Idaho in 1948, did graduate work at Yale University and the University of Illinois, and earned her master's of music in vocal performance from the University of Idaho in 1964. She met her husband at the University of Idaho and they were married in 1948 in Blackfoot, Idaho, and had two children, a daughter, Cindy and a son, Cris. She is survived by her husband, William P. Barnes; son, Cris W. Barnes; two granddaughters; sisters, Ruth Crum of Greenacres, Wash. and Helen Sower of South Jordan, Utah; brother, Leon Tilbury of Henderson, Nev. and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lionel Hampton School of Music Recital Hall on the University of Idaho campus. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to be made in her honor to the Dorothy Barnes Vocal Scholarship Fund of the University of Idaho Foundation. MICHAEL HOPP, 43, of Santa Fe died unexpectedly Dec. 25, 2004, in Red Wing, Minn. He was born in Livonia, Mich. to Thomas and Rosemary (Petitto) Hopp. He was a well-known and loved leader, healer, teacher and creator of community in Santa Fe. He passionately believed in being of service to mankind and in the power of community to enhance and enrich the lives of all. He began his spiritual quest in 1981 when he left college to travel the United States and the world. He graduated from the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in 1990. A 14-month pilgrimage around the world, including nine months in India, brought him back to Santa Fe in 1996 to create and direct the Santa Fe Community Yoga Center. He is survived by his parents of Mason, Mich.; brothers, Wally Hopp and wife Melanie of Chicago and Larry Hopp and wife Nancy of Boston; sisters, Susan Hopp of Red Wing, Minn. and Karen Hopp and husband Mike Woodyard of Palmer, Ala. and many other relatives. In lieu of flowers, donations to continue his work may be made to the SFCYC, P.O. Box 23167, Santa Fe, N.M. 87502. A memorial in celebration of his life will be held 4-6 p.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, 1200 Old Pecos Trail at Cordova Road. Santa Fe Community Yoga Center, 820-9363.

MARIA GENEVIEVE OTERO, 65, of Las Vegas, N.M. died Tuesday at the Heart Hospital in Albuquerque. She was born in Las Vegas, N.M. to Juan Otero and Albina Apodaca. She worked as a home health aide at Esperanza Home Health Care for 15 years.
She was a kind and loving person who cared very deeply for her friends and family. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Isabel Josefina Espinoza.
She is survived by her brother, Napoleon Otero and wife Mary of Las Vegas, N.M.; special grandniece: Miranda Espinoza of Albuquerque; close friends, Annie Lucero and Josephine Garcia; and many other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow at San Jose Cemetery.
