GEORGE ARTHUR "SMILEY" MARTINEZ, 52, of Española died Saturday.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Howard Martinez.
He is survived by his parents, Modesto and Marina Martinez; brothers and sisters Juan "Tano" Martinez and wife, Veronica; David Martinez and wife, Lorraine; Modesto Martinez Jr. and wife, JoAnn; Michael Martinez and wife, Karen; Jerry Martinez and wife, Darby, and Melvin Martinez, all of Española; Leonard Martinez and companion Kim of Colorado, Mary Martinez and companion Jake Sandoval, Angela Trujillo and husband, Jerry, and Inez Valencia and husband, Edward; special niece, Joan Medina; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. today at DeVargas Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

EUFEMIA PADILLA, 89, of the Ilfeld area died Thursday after a brief illness.
She was born in Rowe to the late Florencio Esquibel and Martina Ulibarri. She was married in Rowe to the late Isidro Padilla Sr. She was a store owner of the San Ysidro Merchandise grocery store for 40 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren and having birthday parties. She was a member of the San Miguel Del Vado Church in San Miguel. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Dolores "Lala" Padilla; brother, Lalo Esquibel; and son, Jose Antonio Padilla.
She is survived by her sons and daughters Jerry R. Padilla, Eva M. Padilla, Frances Chavez and husband Joe, Johnny Padilla and wife, Helen, all of Ilfeld; Rose Marie Sandoval and husband Celediono of Albuquerque, Isidro Padilla Jr. and wife Josie of Ilfeld, Shirley Sandoval and husband Michael and Luis Aragon and wife Yolanda, all of San Ysidro Norte; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Matilde Rios and husband Cruz of Santa Fe, Josie Stoyel of Las Vegas, Nev. and Rickie Montano and husband Jose of Albuquerque; brothers, Phil Esquibel of Santa Fe, Tito Esquibel and wife Francis of Las Vegas, N.M., Alfonso Esquibel and wife Della of Albuquerque, Don Esquibel of Denver and many other relatives and friends.
Services have taken place with burial at San Miguel Catholic Cemetery.

MICHAEL D. QUINTANA, 48, of Santo Niño died Saturday after a long illness.
He graduated from McCurdy Mission and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. He was a gifted artist. He and his companion became accomplished potters.
He was preceded in death by his father, former state representative Eloy P. Quintana, and brother, Walter L. Quintana.
He is survived by his children, Alaina, Dominic and Chyanne Quintana; companion, Virginia Garcia, all of Santo Niño; mother, Flora Quintana of Sombrillo; brother, Charles Quintana and wife Lorraine of Fairview and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz.

RAMON ROMERO, 92, of Vadito died Thursday.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolina "Carrie" Romero. He is survived by his children, Carmen Cecilia Madrid and husband Eddie of Las Vegas, Erlinda Russell and husband Jeff of Redlands, Calif., Elaine Benavides of Albuquerque and Lucille Geri Temer and husband Donald of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; brother, Raymundo Romero and wife Annie; sister, Candie Perea and husband Clovis; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation and rosary will be held at 3 and 7 p.m. Friday at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the same church with burial to follow at Vadito Cemetery.

JOSE FIDEL SANDOVAL, 80, of Cordova died unexpectedly Saturday.
He worked for the Los Alamos Public School for 23 years and enjoyed working on his farm with his animals.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elisea Torrez Sandoval; daughter, Maryanne S. Lopez; and parents, Juan Ramon and Josephita Sandoval.
He is survived by his sons, Jake Sandoval and companion Mary Martinez of Española; Ben Sandoval and wife Crissy of Chimayó; daughters, Emily S. Martinez and husband Benito of Cordova; Carmelita Sandoval of Cordova; Sandra Valdez and husband George of Nambé; adopted daughter, Marissa J. Sandoval of Cordova; granddaughter raised by him, Melissa Sandoval and companion Tony Romero; ten grandchildren; four sisters; one brother; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at San Antonio Catholic Church in Cordova. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the same church with burial to follow at San Antonio Catholic Cemetery.

MARY T. SANDOVAL, 97, of Santa Fe died Friday.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Amerante, Felipe, Salamon and Frank Sandoval; and sisters, Rose Dimas and Lupita Cantu.
She was born in Peña Blanca, the daughter of the late Carmilita and Marcos Sandoval. She was a graduate of New Mexico Highlands University where she earned her teaching degree. She took teaching positions as an elementary school teacher in Waldo Cerrillos and San Isidro. She was later taught in Cochiti where she remained for 17 years, and later taught 13 years in San Juan. After retirement she moved to Casa Real Health Care Center where she participated in many activities including their residence counsel.
She is survived by her brother, Marcos Sandoval of Albuquerque; sister, Zulema Salazar of San Diego; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery.

LEONARDO A. VALERIO, 92, of Llano Quemado died Friday.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Claudina S. Valerio; parents, Antonio and Felecita Valerio; and brother, Jose Benjamin Valerio.
He was survived by his wife, Emelina Valerio; children, Henry A. Valerio and wife Josie of Utah, Raymundo Valerio and wife Diana of Taos, Tony Valerio and wife Teresita of Pennsylvania, Lalo Valerio and wife Teresita of Llano Quemado, Ben Valerio and wife Juanita of Arroyo Hondo and Tina Torres and husband Ocelio of Llano Quemado; 18 grandchildren; eight stepchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
