ELIAS MARTINEZ, 78, of Denver and a former resident of Holman died Sunday after a long illness.
He was born in Holman to Benerito Martinez and Seraida Valdez Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benerito and Seraida Martinez; brothers, Conrado and Reynaldo Valdez; and father and mother-in-law, Eloy and Endelecia Medina.
He is survived by his wife, Emelia Martinez of the family home in Denver; sons, Seraido Martinez and wife Flora of Commerce City, Colo., Toby Martinez and wife Cathy of Denver, Alex Medina and Cilia of Holman, Johnny Medina and wife Valerie of Colorado Springs; daughters, Ruby Duran and husband Donald of Costilla; special niece, Eloida Vigil and husband Richard of Guadalupita; brothers, Filimon Martinez and wife Eleanor of Denver, and Gilbert Martinez of Espaņola; sister, Rebecca Vasquez of Denver; 13 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Gertrude's Church with burial to follow at San Isidro Cemetery in Holman.

LEVI ISIDORO MARTINEZ, 45, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Saturday of cancer.
He was born and received his early education in Las Vegas, N.M. He was a housing construction worker and worked for R&L Construction Co. He loved to fish and hunt.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Florinda Martinez and brother, Raymond Martinez.
He is survived by his father, Isidoro Martinez of Las Vegas, N.M.; daughters, Lorissa Martinez Rodarte and Melissa Martienz, both of Las Vegas, N.M.; son, Levi Martinez Jr. of Mustang, Okla.; mother of his children, Sadie Martinez of Las Vegas, N.M.; and brothers and sisters, Lucy Armijo and husband, Ignacio; Robert Martinez; Jerry Martinez and wife, Lynette; Gloria Martinez and husband, Eloy; Merlinda Lopez and husband, Gene; Priscilla Saiz and husband, Charles; Joseph Martinez and wife, Elaine; Dolores Serrano and husband, Martin; Bernardo Martinez and wife, Vynnessa; Charlie Martinez Jr. and wife, Anna, all of Las Vegas, N.M., Joanne Cruz and husband, Manuel of Espaņola, and Charlie Martinez and Gilbert Martinez and wife, Ida, all of Denver.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at the same church followed by cremation. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the San Jose Cemetery.

FILBERT J. SANCHEZ, 83, of Santa Fe died Monday.
He was born to Enrique and Dolores Sanchez. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Air Force. He later retired from Amtrak.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelina; and sister, Mary Dorrance.
He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie M. Sanchez of Santa Fe and Mary Lou Carter and husband Timothy of Port Huron, Mich.; son, Phil S. Sanchez and wife, Kathy, of Santa Fe; sister, Henrietta Sanchez of Denver; brothers, Matt Sanchez and wife, Angie, of San Francisco, and Pete Sanchez and wife, Florence, of Denver; 12 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Thursday with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at McGee Memorial Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

VEDILIA VALDEZ, 70, of Ojo Feliz died Sunday.
She was born to the late Juan Antonio and Edonilia Cruz. She was married to Jose Emilio Valdez in 1958. She was a lifelong member of the Ojo Feliz Church of Christ. She enjoyed making crafts. She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for family gatherings. Her family was the center of her life. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Antonio and Edonilia Cruz.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Emilio Valdez of Ojo Feliz; daughters, Della Olivas and husband Baltazar of Holman, Elaine Cordova of Las Vegas, N.M.; Vicky Lujan of Cleveland, Lillian Cano and husband Jesse of Albuquerque, Annabel Lujan and husband Gary of Fort Benning, Ga.; sons, Tony Valdez and wife Paula and Gilbert Valdez of Las Vegas, N.M.; stepdaughter, Rosalee Trujillo of Chacon; 20 grandchildren; sisters, Rosanna Garcia of Pinole, Calif., and Emilia Duran and husband Noe of Chacon; brothers, Leo Cruz and wife Vangie of Hannah, Wyo., Johnny Cruz and wife Cecelia of Windsor, Colo., Trini Cruz and wife Levinia of Rodeo, Manuel Cruz and wife Margaret of Westminister, Colo.; special niece, Lucille Trujillo and husband Harold; special nephew, Martin Duran; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lidoro and Louella Valdez of Ojo Feliz, Delfinia Vigil and Andrea Trujillo of Las Vegas, N.M., Manuel Valdez and wife Martha of San Jose, Calif., and Floyd Valdez and wife Priscilla of Manatou Springs, Colo; and many other relatives and friends.
A public viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. today at Rogers Chapel. Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Ojo Feliz Church of Christ. Burial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the same church followed by burial at Ojo Feliz Church of Christ Cemetery.

TOMAS E. BARELA, 88, of Truchas died Sunday after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Isaac and Merlin Barela; and mother, Evan Barela.
He is survived by his brother, Mike Barela and wife Verlaine of Riverton, Utah; close cousins, David Trujillo and wife, Patsy, of Truchas, Ernest Trujillo, David Trujillo Jr., Carol Gomez and Katrina Medina; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 10:30-11 a.m. Friday at the Soul Sanctuary Church in Truchas with a funeral at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Llanitos Cemetery in Truchas.

PETE A. ESQUIBEL, 89, of Upper Las Nutrias died Monday after a short illness.
He was an honorable and kind man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Lucia Esquibel; brother, Alfredo Esquibel; sisters Lucy Esquibel and Sister Benedict Esquibel and Sister Consuelo Esquibel, both of the Saint Frances Order in Odenberg, Ind.
He is survived by his brother, Arturo Esquibel and wife, Emily, of Belen; wife, Mary Rose of Ohio; daughters, Elena and husband, Peter LaVictoire; Kay and husband, Tom Hood; nine grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the San Jose Catholic Church in Los Ojos. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the same church.
