HELEN B. MARCY, 90, died after a short illness.
She was born on a farm in Virginia to Arthur and Annie Butler. She wrote and loved poetry and enjoyed Japanese flower arranging. She loved sharing her poetry with her friends, who were a very important part of her life. She was a member of many reading clubs, where she and her friends would discuss great books.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Marcy; and sisters, Virginia Surman and Mary Anna Butoff.
She is survived by her daughters, Martha Simoneau and husband Larry of Rhode Island and Ellen Marcy; and two grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at McGee Memorial Chapel. A private burial will be held at Rosario Cemetery.

HELEN V. MARTINEZ, 80, of Santa Fe died Monday following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Cleo Gallegos; and brother, Epifanio Valdez Jr.
She was born in Tierra Amarilla, the daughter of the late Epifanio and Manuelita Valdez. She married Joe M. "Pipas" Martinez Jr. on March 2, 1944. She was a graduate of Tierra Amarilla High School and attended New Mexico Highlands University. She retired from the Department of Military Affairs following 30 years of service. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary and the Fraternal Orders of Eagles Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Joe M. "Pipas" Martinez Jr.; children, Stan C. Valdez, Marcia J. Martinez, Jeanette Hohler and husband Bob, Susan Baca and husband Phil; sister, Bertha Christiansen and husband Rollin; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be donated to St. John's Soup Kitchen. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

MICHAEL E. TOBIN of Tesuque died Thursday.
He was born in Philadelphia to Emma (nee Roberts) and Michael Joseph Tobin. He graduated from Central High School, lettering in fencing and soccer and then enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania until he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater. He remained in France to study classical piano. Returning to Philadelphia, he completed studies at The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania after which, he began his career in New York in finance with a private investment company. He then moved into bank and securities consulting for Arthur Young and Company, becoming partner in charge of the Chicago and Western offices. He became president of the Midwest Stock Exchange, where he pioneered automation for the Exchange, making the MSE the second largest market in the U.S. by dollar volume. In 1978 he became the chairman and CEO of the American Bank and Trust Company of Chicago. During his tenure at the bank, he sponsored a program in collaboration with Mortimer Adler to teach critical analysis skills to inner city school children. He was a member of the Chicago Commercial Club, The Executive Club, The Mid-America Club, Chicago Club and Glenview Club. Throughout his life, he was actively committed to the arts.
In Santa Fe, he served on the board of St. John's College and the Santa Fe Symphony. After retiring to the Santa Fe area, he golfed and skied and continued to cultivate his life-long interest in world history and western literature through the seminar courses at St. John's College. He was a supportive and loving husband and father. He was a man of excellent wit and deep integrity who developed an abiding passion for the Southwest's fragile and austere landscape.
He is survived by his wife, Judith (nee Brown); children, Michael Jr., Allegra Love and Corey; stepson, Brett Sylvestri and wife Virginia; three grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society or St. John's College.
A private celebration will be held on May 14.

ANGELINA T. CHACON, 83, of Chili died Tuesday following a long illness.
She was a loving mother. She loved to cook for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andres and Gertrudez Jacquez; brothers, Alex and Phil Jacquez; and sisters, Merlene Manzanares and Antonia Jacquez.
She is survived by her husband, Manuel Chacon of Chili; daughters, Trudy Chacon and Catherine Chacon, both of Chili, and Margaret Rinehart and Amalia Chacon, both of San Angelo, Texas; sons, John Chacon and wife Geraldine of Tierra Azul, Lonnie Chacon, Gene Chacon and Andres Chacon, all of Chili; brothers, Marino Jacquez and wife Marcella of Cuba and Elijio Jacquez of Santa Fe; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
A public visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A second rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Coyote. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the same church with burial to follow at the Coyote Cemetery.

CIPRIANITA MONTANO, 84, of Las Vegas, N.M. died Tuesday.
She was born in San Pablo to the late Andres Jaramillo and Feliciana Mondragon. She was raised and was a longtime resident of Tecolote, but for the last 15 years resided in Las Vegas, N.M. She was married at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on May 21, 1941 to Estevan Montano. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed cooking, embroidery and taking care of her grandchildren. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andres and Feliciana Jaramillo; brothers, Carlos and Manuel Jaramillo; and son, Cifredo Montano.
She is survived by her husband, Estevan Montano of Las Vegas, N.M.; son, Lorenzo Montano and fiance Celia Lujan of Denver; daughters, Priscilla Larson and husband John of Las Vegas, N.M., Mary Salazar and husband Gabriel and Lillian Montano, all of Denver and Andrea C. Lopez and friend Raul Martinez of Las Vegas, N.M.; 22 grandchildren; sister, Gregorita Griego of Las Vegas, N.M.; brothers and sisters-in-law: Eugenio Montano of Las Vegas, N.M., Leo Montano and wife Frances of Romeroville, Max Montano and wife Dora of Hobbs, Adan Montano and wife Betty of Las Vegas, N.M., Tillie Montano, Virginia Montour, Carmen Vigil and Chavela Gallegos and husband Candelario, all of Albuquerque; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Immaculate Conception Church. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at the Tecolote Cemetery.

LUCY VALDEZ GONZALES, 69, of Gallina died unexpectedly Thursday. She lived for and loved her family. Her love of life showed in the things she loved to do; gardening, canning, picking piņon, sewing and taking care of her chickens. She had a big heart, and her home was always open to everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosenaldo and Juanita Valdez; and brother, Luis Valdez. She is survived by her husband, Octaviano Gonzales of Gallina; children, Shirley Cordova and husband Joe, Jessie Schmitt and Ralph Duran, Mary Rose Gonzales, Lucille Gonzales, Cordy Gonzales and Lawrence Carabajal, Bertha Montoya, Joe Gonzales, Peter Gonzales and Johnny Gonzales; 23 grandchildren; sisters, Olivia Cutler of Rio Rancho, Toney Svorak of Golden, Colo., and Mary Ortega of Salt Lake City; brothers, Joe Valdez of Fruita, Colo., Richard Valdez of Salt Lake City and Ross and Fred Valdez, both of Denver; stepmother, Adela Garcia of Denver; and many other relatives and friends. A public visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gallina with burial to follow at the Capulin Guadalupe Cemetery in Capulin. FRUTOSA MARTINEZ, 82, of Arroyo Seco died Tuesday. She worked for many years as a cook for Taos Municipal Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Martinez Sr.; parents, Jose Damian and Eleonor Martinez; brothers, Roberto Martinez, Max Martinez, Jose Escolastico Martinez; and sisters Maria Inez Baros, and infant sister Josefina Martinez. She is survived by her children, Ruben Martinez of Arroyo Seco, Tony Martinez and wife Lorraine of Los Cordovas, Violanda Romo and husband Albert of Talpa, Louise Cordova and husband Alex of Costilla; sisters, Cirila Martinez, and Stephanie Rivera; 13 grandchildren; and many other relatives. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco.
