BERNIE M. NARANJO, 73, of Santa Cruz died Monday following a brief illness.
She was actively involved with La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Caņada as the Cledova de Santa Teresita de Santo Niņo Sagrada Familia. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Ignacio and Donelia Madrid.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Melicendro Naranjo of Santa Cruz; children, Rosemarie N. Lujan and husband Louis of Santa Cruz, Benje and Donald Naranjo, both of El Llano and Barbara Ricci and husband John of Santa Cruz; six grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Helen Archuleta and husband Clotario of Santa Fe, Mary Louise Borrego and husband Rumaldo of San Pedro, Connie Serrano and husband Abelino of Denver, Terry Sanchez and husband Mark of Fairview, Gilbert Madrid and wife Shirley of Florida, Susan Lopez and husband Gene of Albuquerque, Eliseo Madrid and wife Aurelia of El Llano, Asencion Vigil and husband Fred of California, and Mary Montoya of San Pedro; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Caņada with burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

ESEQUIEL SALAS, 86, of Tecolotito died Monday.
He was born on in Tecolotito to Esipio and Desiderio Salas. After retiring from the state of New Mexico, he was able to spend time ranching and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Serafina; and their son, Adam.
He is survived by his children, Wilfred Salas and wife Jean, Herminia Salas, and Elizabeth Nava and husband Jose Luis; wife, Alvira Lucero; sisters, Mela Lucero, Eva Martinez, and Flora Lovato and husband Isidro; brother, Tito Salas and wife Vitalia; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held today from 3-4 p.m. at McGee Memorial Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico. Another visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Thursday at the same chapel. Another rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Cathedral. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the same cathedral with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery.

MARCOS MATTHEW SANDOVAL, 24, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Friday.
He was born in Las Vegas, N.M. He graduated from West Las Vegas High School with top honors and secured a scholarship to attend New Mexico Highlands University, the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University. His honors included National Honor Society and National Honor Society treasurer, New Mexico Boy's State Delegate, Who's Who in American High Schools, United States Achievement Academy, National English Merit Award, All American Scholar, National Youth Leadership, UNM Scholar and Santa Fe Leadership Institute. He was a proud WLV Don and loved to play football and baseball and spend time with all of his friends. He was selected All District first team tight end and received recognition for most RBIs and best defensive player in baseball. He was a member of Key Club and the Ski Club, where he enjoyed being with friends Diego Gonzales, Eloy Aragon, Walter Adams, Lucas Bachicha, Jacob Tafoya and many others. He was a senior at NMHU majoring in political science. He worked at Plaza Drugs for Eloy and Frances Aragon and loved working with the staff and servicing the community. He also had worked at the NMHU computer lab, the state Highway Department, Gene Parson Landscaping Co., Alcon Firefighters and the state Forestry Department as a firefighter and engine boss with the Mammoth Crew and was proud of his work as a firefighter. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He loved the mountains and being outdoors. He loved hunting with his father and their hunting buddies and fishing with his brother-in-law. He enjoyed spending time with his Fraternal Order of Police family and all the many friends he had. His favorite foods were his mom's beans and chile or carne adovada stuffys, and his dad's hot green chile enchiladas and pork fried rice. He was a very generous, respectful and fiercely independent individual. He never said anything bad about anyone and was very loyal.
He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Matthew.
He is survived by his parents, Matthew and Loretta Sandoval; sister, Melissa Vigil and husband Kenny Vigil; close nephews and niece, Benito Jesus, Mateo Tomas and Angelica Amor Vigil; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in his memory to the Our Lady of Sorrows Church air conditioning project.
Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with burial to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

GILBERT MELQUIADES VALDEZ, 37, of Los Luceros died Saturday.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Martinez; and sister, Margaret Watson.
He is survived by his parents, Minister Elias Valdez and Angelina Montoya; children, Anthony Valdez, Marlene Valdez, Miquela Valdez and Gilbert Valdez Jr.; brothers, David Martinez and companion Marie Serna; Kenneth Valdez and companion Veronica Martinez and Andrew Valdez; sisters, Kathleen Maestas and husband Randy, Esther Valdez and companion Arturo Torres; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan Pueblo with burial to follow at the Alcalde Cemetery.

ROBERT E. VIGIL of Raton died Thursday.
He was a biker, hard worker and Colfax County heavy equipment operator for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Josephine Vigil; and brother, Richard Vigil.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Vigil of the family home in Raton; daughter, Francine Asucion and husband Roland of El Paso; sons, Samuel Vigil of Raton, Robert Vigil and wife Laura of Luxembourg, Jesse Vigil and wife Jessica of Casa Grande, Ariz.; sister, Cecelia Doberstein and husband Wayne of Denver; brothers, Danny Sanchez and David Vigil and wife Linda, all of Denver, Samuel Vigil and wife Patty of Seebring, Ohio, Alex Vigil and wife Susanne of Cold Springs, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Raton.

MARY M. ARAGON, 90, of Los Alamos died Saturday at the Sombrillo Nursing Home.
She was a former resident of Conchas Dam and resided in Los Alamos for the past 11 months. She was born in Sabinoso to the late Jose De La Cruz Martinez and Felipita Olguin. She owned and operated the Plaza de Conchas Bar and Grill for 14 years. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and gardening. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Margarito Aragon Sr.; and brothers and sisters, Eduardo Martinez, Aurora Jaramillo, Vicentita Gutierrez, Nabor Martinez, Luis Martinez, Catarino Martinez, Ramoncita Gutierrez, Francisquita Martinez, Josefita Aragon, and Felipe Martinez.
She is survived by her sons, Johnny F. Aragon of Albuquerque, Margarito Aragon Jr. and wife Virginia of Santa Fe; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Rogers Chapel. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Nuestra Seņora de Guadalupe Church in Sabinoso with burial to follow at the Nuestra Senora De Guadalupe Cemetery in Sabinoso.

LAURA ABEYTA, 53, of Chamisal died Sunday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Victor and Eloisa Cordova; sister, Rebecca Fujino; and brother, Macario Cordova.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Paul Abeyta; children, Denny Abeyta, Sandra Abeyta and husband Robert Martinez; two grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Olivama Pacheco, Felix Cordova, Ross Cordova, Joe Cordova and wife, Vicky, Rosana Abeyta and husband, Juan, all of Chamisal, Linora Pacheco of Santa Fe, Maclovia Fresquez and husband, Anselmo, of Las Vegas, Nev. and Dina Duran and husband, Robert, of Talpa; and many other relatives.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Rivera Chapel. Another rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peņasco. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the same church with burial to follow at Chamisal Catholic Cemetery.
