DOROTHY BEST, 76, of Santa Fe died Thursday.
She was a longtime resident of Santa Fe and Las Cruces. She was born in Summit, N.J. She attended Stephens College in Missouri, and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona and a master's degree from New Mexico Highlands University. She worked as a civilian employee of the Navy in Panama, and traveled extensively in South America. She was active for many years in the Santa Fe Community Theater and took part in many theatrical productions. She was a member of the group that many years ago wrote and produced the Santa Fe Melodrama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lottie R. Best of Melbourne, Fla.; brother, Richard Best of Melbourne, Fla.; and sister, Mary Alice Dillon of Sarasota, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Priestly of Las Cruces; son, Patrick Stefan Donnelly of Northampton, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending.

LARRY T. FLOOD, 69, of Santa Fe died suddenly at his home Thursday.
He was born to the late Robert O. and Alice R. Flood. He married Tilly Flood in Germany. He was a retied Army major with 23 years of service. His tours of duty included Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired from New Mexico State Penitentiary after serving 20 years, four as associate warden. He was a member of FOP (president 2000-2001), VFW, VFNP (vice president), American Legion, Eagles and the Masonic Lodge 33rd degree.
He is survived by his wife, Tilly Flood; sons, Oliver Flood, Mark Flood and wife, Jasmine; Kevin Flood and wife, Mari Lou; Michael Flood and wife, Minerva; Robert Flood and Brian Flood; daughter, Tina Flood and friend, Mike; one grandson; former wife, Heidi; sisters, Dolreta Cory and friend, Bill, Lisa and husband, Albert; brother, Tim Flood and wife, Sandy; stepmother, Doris Holmes and husband, Harold; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the FOP Scholarship Fund.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Berardinelli Family Chapel with burial to follow with full honors at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

MARY LOUISE MAESTAS, 68, of Las Vegas, N.M. died Wednesday at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital.
She was born in Roy to Alberto Aguilar and Fedelina Esquibel. She retired from the West Las Vegas Schools after 25 years of teaching. She was a member of the National Council of English. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Carlos Romero.
She is survived by her parents, Santos and Fedelina Romero of Springer; daughter, Trisha Maestas of Corpus Christi, Texas; one grandson; brothers, Floyd Aguilar and John Aguilar, both of Springer; Patrick Romero and wife Linda of Corpus Christi, Texas; Robert Romero of Springer; sisters, Georgia Arrellanes and husband Henry of Albuquerque; Rose Ramirez and husband Michael of Springer; and many other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. June 3 at Rogers Chapel with a funeral devotional service to be held at 10 a.m. June 4 at the Immaculate Conception Church with burial to follow at the Springer Cemetery.

CARLOS PEREZ MARQUEZ SR., 72, of Las Vegas, N.M. died at his home Sunday.
He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, to the late Ambrosio Marquez and Placida Perez. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, farming and raising game birds and pigs. A lifelong Catholic, he attended Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine De Herrera Marquez; one grandson; brother, Antonio Marquez; sister, Lupe Marquez and stepson,: Patricio Martinez.
He is survived by his son, Carlos Marquez, Jr. and wife Rose; daughter, Elizabeth Marquez; son-in-law: Paul Martinez; daughter, Mercedes Roblez and husband Tom, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Hector Meras of Juarez, Mexico, and Anicito Marquez of Mexico; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Corner Stone Church, 333 Peggy Lane, Las Vegas, N.M. with burial to follow at the Santo Niņo Cemetery in Buena Vista.

JOSEPH A. MARTINEZ, 53, of Espaņola died Sunday following a long battle with diabetes.
He was born in Embudo and grew up in Velarde. He attended St. Anthony's Parochial School in Dixon and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Santa Fe. He graduated from Espaņola High School in 1968. He then went on to graduate from the University of New Mexico and taught at Rio Grande High School until his retirement after 28 years of teaching. He retired to Espaņola, hoping one day to be a teacher in his hometown. He was an avid reader, loved his cats and dogs, enjoyed a good game of chess, tennis, riding his bike and listening to the Beatles. He never turned away family or friends who showed up at his doorstep and he never turned away a dog needing a home. He is survived by his parents, Tony and Fortie Martinez of Los Luceros; sisters, Marion Martinez and compaņera Mikki Anaya of Glorieta, Alexine Salazar and husband Phillip of Santa Fe, Pamela Martinez and companion Katherine Brooks of Edgewood, and Paula Sandoval and husband Armando of California; cousin who grew up with the family, Johnny Rivera and wife Ellen of Rio Rancho; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan Pueblo followed by a wake and rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the same church with burial to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Espaņola Animal Shelter by calling 753-8662.

JACINTO ROMERO, 98, of Ledoux died Thursday at Vida Encantada Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in and a pioneer resident of Ledoux. He was a sheep herder most of his life. He worked in a nuclear reactor plant in Wyoming and also worked for the railroad. He was a carpenter by trade and built his own home as well as assisted in the building of the Mora Fire Department and the dam at Morphy Lake. He was a hard-working man who loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Estefanita Vigil Romero; wife, Vitalia; brothers, Abel, Leonor, Jose D., Alfredo, Jose, and Roberto Romero; and sisters, Deluvina Espinoza, Estella Trujillo, and Barbarita Romero.
He is survived by his daughter, Teodorita Serna of Ledoux; sons, Fabian Romero and wife, Rose, and Marcario Romero and wife, Presel, all of Cheyenne, Wyo., Adelaido Romero and wife Porfilia of Las Vegas, N.M. and Jesus D. Romero of Ledoux; 15 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Mass was celebrated at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora with burial in the San Jose Cemetery in Ledoux.

JUANITA SENA, 89, of Pecos died Saturday after a battle with cancer.
She was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and a longtime member of La Union Protectiva Feminina. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Manuelita and Alejandrino Vigil; sisters, Modesta Romero and Carlota Roybal; and brothers, Patricio Vigil, Ramon Vigil and Reymundo Vigil.
She is survived by her husband, Fernando Sena; sons, Nerio Roybal, and Bob Solano and wife Lorraine; sisters, Martha Tapia and husband Phil, Vera Garcia, Tommie Trujillo and husband Gilbert; stepsons, Eddie Sena, Clyde Roy Sena and wife Lucy; stepdaughters, Mary Ann and husband Urbano Martinez, Dolores Sena and companion Al Jaramillo, Bea and husband Julian H. Ortiz, Virginia and husband Chris Melton, Nora Arellano and companion Herman Young, Isabel and husband John Anthony Quintana, Darlene and husband David Esch and Terri Rodriguez; three grandchildren; 26 step-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at 3 p.m. today with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., both at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pecos. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the same church with burial to follow in Pecos.
