GILBERT S. "GILLIE" LOPEZ, 83, of Las Vegas, N.M. died Wednesday, August 31, 2005, of cancer.
He was a prominent retired educator, administrator, and coach for the West Las Vegas School System. He was born in Wagon Mound and grew up on the family ranch in Watrous. He graduated from Wagon Mound High School and received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from New Mexico Highlands University. He married Rosaline Bustamante on June 10, 1950, in Pecos. As an athlete, he played sports for NMHU from 1941-1944 and then in 1948. He coached at West Las Vegas High School for more than 30 years and served as one of the founding fathers of the school. The West Las Vegas High School Gymnasium was named after him. He was an educator and administrator for 34 years and retired in 1981. He was an active supporter of the Democratic Party of New Mexico and last year attended the Democratic National Convention.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rosaline; parents, Savino and Salome Fernandez Lopez; sister, Amalia Arguello; brothers, Felipe and Alfonso Lopez; and son, Gil A. Lopez.
He is survived by his sons, Dr. Michael Lopez and wife Ginny, and Danny Lopez and wife Lisa, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; daughter, Amalia Black and husband Steve of Albuquerque; brother, Gustavo Lopez and wife Frances of Wagon Mound; eight grandchildren; and many other relatives.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. today in the St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd. and from 4 to 7 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. in the Gillie Lopez Gymnasium at West Las Vegas High School. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow in the family plot at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
The family has requested memorials be sent to the Gillie Lopez Memorial Fund, c/o Danny Lopez, 500 Valencia Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701.

JANETTE CASTILLO, 19, of Santa Fe died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005.
She was born in Santa Fe to Sergio Castillo and Luz Perez. She attended Agua Fria School and Alameda Junior High and graduated from Capital High School. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.
She is survived by her parents, Sergio Castillo and Luz Perez; and sisters, Vanessa and Naville Castillo, all of Santa Fe.
A visitation will take place from 5-6 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. today at McGee Memorial Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery.

DONN T. DAVIES, 89, of El Prado died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005. In 1992, he was awarded the Chester A. Reynolds Award at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, an honor reserved for great figures in the American West. In 2004, he was inducted into the Culver Military Academy Horsemanship Hall of Fame in Indiana for his equestrian accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife Henny; children, Maria Scott of Mill Valley, Calif., Donn Davies of Taos, Charles Davies of Rio Rancho, and Susie Tate of Cimarron; nine grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Donston of Dayton, Wyo.

MARY N. DIMAS, 78, of Taos died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacobo Dimas; and daughters, Mabel Medina and Roseanne Dimas.
She is survived by her children, Frances Cruz (Dennis), George Dimas (Maria) of Taos, Raymond Dimas of Taos and Martin Dimas (Francina), all of Taos, Sam Dimas (Patsy) of Georgetown, Texas, and Martha Martinez (Larry) of San Luis, Colo.; brothers and sisters, Ernestina Benavidez, Genara Jaramillo, Tony Maestas, Rose Martinez, Alfonso Maestas, Mary Jane Sanchez, Ivan Maestas and Eremita Chaves; 18 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Our Lady of the Guadalupe Catholic Church in Taos with burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

LAKIN "BABY G" GARCIA, 20, of Santa Fe died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005.
A visitation will take place beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Santa Fe Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the same church with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens.

ANTONIO S. GRIEGO, 79, of La Madera died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, after a long illness.
He was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He owned Griego and Sons Construction Company and La Pasada Store and Liquors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Ignacio and Maria Inez Griego; sons, Stanley and Leo Griego; and sister, Amalia Trujillo.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Christina Griego of La Madera; daughters, Mary Agnes Martinez and husband Manuel, Janet Malcom and husband Jack, both of Espaņola, Debra Griego of Santa Fe, Loretta and Sandra Griego, both of Las Cruces; eight grandchildren; good friends, Tino Griego of Utah and Cristobal Griego of La Madera; and many other relatives and friends. Cremation is being planned. Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. today at the family ranch in La Madera with burial to follow at the family cemetery in La Madera.

AMANDA RENEE HERRERA, 18, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005.
She was a beautiful, caring, giving and loving girl. She was a 2005 graduate of Capital High. She adored her mom and dad and her big family. She loved all her family and friends. She loved to make people smile.
She is survived by her father, Ted Herrera of Santa Fe; mother, Susan Gallegos of Santa Fe; brothers, Joseph Herrera and Nehemiah Vasquez; stepmother, Kathleen Herrera of Santa Fe; stepfather, Adam Gallegos of Albuquerque, five stepbrothers and sisters; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Santa Fe Community Bank in the name of Amanda Renee Herrera.
A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today at St. Anne's Catholic Church followed by a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at noon Wednesday at the same church.
