J. HOWARD HILL
J. Howard Hill, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Dec. 23.
He was born Oct. 31, 1915, at the former town of Venus (near Edgewood), the eldest of the eight children of Joe B. and Mae Hill. Howard lived his early childhood on the family homestead. He moved with his family to Albuquerque in 1928. Howard moved back to Edgewood in 1935, after completing high school and one year at UNM, to begin farming. He married Margaret Ruth Myers of Mills, N.M., in 1939. Howard owned and operated the Highland Bean Company and the Minneapolis-Moline farm equipment dealership in Edgewood in the 1940s, in addition to area farming and ranching activities. In 1950 he and his family moved to Albuquerque, where he engaged in residential building contracting while maintaining his agricultural activities in Edgewood.
Howard was strong in his Christian faith. Since 1951, he was a member of the Heights Baptist Church (now merged with Highland Baptist Church). He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth; five sons, Wayne Hill and wife Dona of Corpus Christi, Texas, Glenn Hill and wife Charlene of Williams, Calif., Max Hill and wife Latricia, Larry Hill and wife Patsy, and Terry Hill and wife Dawn, all of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Chester Hill of Edgewood and Fred Hill and Kenneth Hill and wife Kathryn of Albuquerque; sister, Maxine Hopping of Edgewood; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mae Hill; brother, Don Hill; and sisters, Lois Sievert and Alta Mae Jensen.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Del Norte Baptist Church, 5800 Montgomery Blvd. NE in Albuquerque. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.

LOIS REBECCA LARSON
Lois Rebecca Larson, 88, of Moriarty passed away Dec. 20 in Albuquerque with her loving family beside her.
Lois was born Dec. 23, 1916, in McIntosh to George Phillip and Margaret Ellen (Adams) Davis. She attended the University of New Mexico and was a teacher until she married her first husband, the father of her five children, Voyle Larson, who preceded her in death in 1993.
She was a clerk/secretary for the First Baptist Church in the 1930s and '40s, as well as teaching Sunday school for many years. Lois was a leader and instructor for the McIntosh Extension Club and attended New Mexico State University for continued education. She was a master seamstress and her handiwork was expressed in the garments she designed and sewed for family, friends and professional people. Her quilts and upholstery adorn the rooms of many homes in New Mexico and other states. She was also known for the crafts she made which were treasures and gifts for many.
Lois raised five children; was a second mother to her nieces, nephews and grandchildren; was an election judge for many years; and helped start the Torrance County Association for Retarded Citizens.
Lois is survived by her husband, Merrill Lee Larson of the home; sons, Donald L. Larson and wife Barbara of Alcoa, Tenn., and Bill Larson and wife Marilyn of Moriarty; daughters, Frances Davis and husband Walter of Moriarty, Norma Brownlee and husband Gary of Granger, Wash., and Irma Wolf of Moriarty; a brother, Frank L. Davis of Albuquerque; a sister, Marian Barnes of Moriarty; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren, one of which has gone home to heaven, Bradley Ness.
Lois will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. All that knew and loved her will miss her.
A Funeral service was held Monday at the First Baptist Church in Moriarty with The Rev. Tom Shenk officiating. Interment followed at the Mountainview Cemetery in Moriarty.
The family has requested that a donation be made to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 629, Portales, NM 88130; The New Mexico Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 5000, Belen, NM 87002; or to your favorite charity.

DONALD R. COLON
Donald R. (Cowboy Don) Colon, a longtime resident of Moriarty, lost his battle with cancer on Dec. 15 at the age of 71.
He was born May 31, 1934. Don was a member of the VFW, the FRA and the Elks club. He also looked forward to being part of the Lions club. He served in the military for 221/2 years. He also was a truck driver for 33 years. He was currently a truck driver for Elbar trucking.
Don had a heart of gold and touched every life that he met and he never said no to anyone asking for help. Don will forever be in our hearts and will greatly be missed.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Freda Colon; daughters Kathy Simmons and husband John and their two daughters Jessica and Tamara, Jayda Buckland and husband Chad and their two sons Matthew and Chad Eric Jr.; and sons Donald Colon, Thomas Higgs and son Thomas Jr., James Higgs and daughter Lauren; and his sister, Buenta Hendricks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Lucy, and sister Janet.
Cremation has taken place and services will be at a later date.

MAYMIE E. DELONG JONES
Maymie E. DeLong Jones, 86, died Dec. 15 in Albuquerque.
She was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Tennessee. A loving wife and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Jones of Chicago.
Maymie is survived by her brother, A. Lee DeLong of Chatsworth, Ga.; two children, William L. Jones of Albuquerque and Marilyn Jones-Koshinski of Edgewood; two grandchildren, Glenn R. Koshinski of Ruidoso and Yung W. Jones of Albuquerque; two great-grandchildren, Ryan G. Koshinski and Trinity R. Koshinski of Ruidoso; and many loving cousins of Florida: Shirley Evans, White Pippins, Frances Evans, Price Sheffield, Robert L. DeLong, A. Marie DeLong Johnson, A. Pete DeLong, Jewell Cohen Crain and Ruby Cohen Midgett.

PATRICIA CALAHAN
Patricia Calahan, 57, of Tijeras passed away Nov. 1 in Albuquerque.
"Pat" was born March 29, 1949, in San Francisco, Calif., to Gerard and Dorothy Delmas. She married Jim Calahan on Dec. 14, 1979, and had been a resident of Tijeras for 20 years.
She is survived by her mother; her loving husband; her daughter, Rebecca and husband Ron Cline and granddaughter, Natasha.
Pat was the eldest of her sisters, Gerry Howze, Cindy Mowry and Jenny Layne.
A "Celebrate Life Cruise" will be held on San Francisco Bay where her ashes will be scattered on the sea.

KAREN DAHL McKENZIE
Karen Dahl McKenzie, 46, passed away Nov. 4 surrounded by her loving family and amidst a host of supportive good friends.
Karen was born Feb. 16, 1960, in Albuquerque. She graduated from Highland High School, attended Montana State University for two years and received a B.S. degree in biology from the University of New Mexico.
She will be missed as an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star Sunshine Chapter No. 44 in Santa Rosa and the Powder Horn Cowbelles, Santa Rosa/Fort Sumner, where she held office and managed the state beef cookoff. Her involvement as a leader and sponsor for the Guadalupe County Los Amigos 4-H Troupe and as a substitute teacher and member of the PTO with the Moriarty Public Schools will also be missed. Bethel United Methodist Church in Moriarty will feel a deep sense of loss of their faithful member, pianist and Sunday school teacher.
Karen was a source of strength and support to her loving husband, Kenneth McKenzie; was tirelessly devoted to and took great pride in her cherished children, Travis, Scarlett, Malcolm, Madeline and Colin, all of the family home in Encino. She was the beloved daughter of Helen Dahl of Moriarty and will be sorely missed by her sister, Chris Dahl and partner Gerri Barnhart of Albuquerque; father and mother-in-law, Blevins and Marjorie McKenzie of Tucumcari; sister-in-law, Margorie McKenzie of Tucumcari and her children, Laro, Ray and Kenna; brothers-in-law, Houston (Laura) McKenzie of Fort Stockton, Texas, and their children, Sarah and Lydia, John McKenzie of Odessa, Texas, and his children, Tarrant and Rayanna; aunt and mentor, Katherine Callantine of Belgrade, Mont.; uncle, Arthur Copeland of Hagerstown, Md.; and many cousins throughout Montana and the East Coast.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Dahl, and brother-in-law, Douglas McKenzie.
A potluck celebration of Karen's life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McKenzie Ranch (off Interstate 40, Exit 239, go north, follow signs). Donations can be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2429, Moriarty, NM 87035, or NM Boys and Girls Ranches, P.O. Box 9, Belen, NM 87002.
