ROSEMARY CHAPMAN, 73, of Los Alamos, died Wednesday at the Los Alamos Medical Center after a short illness. She was born on April 12, 1930, in East St. Louis, Ill. She married John Chapman in June 1952, also in East St. Louis, Ill. In 1988 she retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory after 22 years of service.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Chapman; daughters, Janice Taylor and husband Billy, Karen Hart and husband Jerry and Diane Smith; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Interment of her cremains will follow at 1 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Special thanks to all the nurses, doctors and their staff at the Los Alamos Medical Center Intensive Care Unit.

DR. FRED A. HOPPER JR., 75, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Sunday at his home. He was born in Oklahoma on July 22, 1928, to Fred Hopper and Flossie Kear Hopper. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan).
He retired from New Mexico Highlands University, where he was a biology professor.
He is survived by his sister, Frances Martin and husband Edward of San Jose, Calif.
Cremation has taken place, and graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Masonic Cemetery, Las Vegas, N.M.

ANTONIO "TONY" MADRID, 56, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Wednesday at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Las Vegas, N.M., on Feb. 5, 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He taught arts and crafts at high schools in Loving, Wagon Mound, Santa Rosa and Salt Lake City. He also was a substitute teacher at West Las Vegas Schools and Las Vegas City Schools. A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.
He was preceded in death by an aunt, Dolores Madrid; grandmother, Odelia Madrid; special cousin, Peter Vialpando; uncle, Arthur Trujillo; aunts, Julia Gurule-Lovato, Florinda Cartwright and Julia Garcia; and uncles, Emilio Quintana and Pete Vialpando.
He is survived by a daughter, Antoinette Madrid and friend Justin of Las Vegas, N.M.; son, Phil Madrid and fiance Victoria Montoya of Las Vegas, N.M.; mother, Marjorie Madrid of Las Vegas, N.M.; brother, Henry "Hank" Madrid and wife Yolanda of Las Vegas, N.M.; sister, Nancy Madrid-Johnson of Albuquerque; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 8 a.m. today at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, C/O Ernestine Chavez, P.O. Box 969, Las Vegas, N.M., 87701.

LOUISE MARIE TRAMMEL, 49, of Angel Fire and formerly of Kingman, Ariz., died unexpectedly on Tuesday. She was owner and proprietor of the Mexican Dinner House in Kingman, Ariz., and registrar of students at Marino Valley High School in Angel Fire. She was a past president of the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce and many other civic activities. She is survived by her spouse, David R. Anderson of Angel Fire; sons, Dean Trammel Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., and Alan Trammel of San Rafael, Calif.; brother, Albert Ray Arronte Jr. (Yolanda) of Lake Kiowa, Texas; and many other relatives. JAMES ALBERT (PREACHER) WASHINGTON died Tuesday at the Colorado State Veterans Home at Walsenburg, Colo. He was born on Oct. 21, 1922, to the Rev. Abraham and Rebecca Simmons Washington. He had seven brothers and sisters who all preceded him in death. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he spent a short time in the Chicago area and came to New Mexico in the early 1950s. He settled in the Moreno Valley in 1952 and worked for RS LeSage for many years, as well as other construction industries until retiring in the late 1980s. He leaves many friends in northern New Mexico; two special nieces, Annabelle H. Deas of Charleston, S.C., and Odessa (Earsey) Paradiso of New York City; and many other relatives. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Eagle Nest Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Elizabeth Town Cemetery. Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

JAMES PETER BERTINO, 79, of Santa Fe, died Monday. He was born in Raton, on July 1, 1924, to Dominic and Giacinta Bertino. He was valedictorian of Santa Fe High School in 1943 and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduating in 1947 from Yale University. He was also a member of the Yale chapter of the Society of Sigma XI. From 1947-1983, was employed as a chemist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa; sister, Flora; father, Dominic; and mother, Giacinta. He is survived by his daughters, Anne (Patrick) Bertino of Phoenix and Paula (Neal) Bertino of Santa Fe; and son, Peter Bertino of Las Vegas, Nev. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be donated to Open Hands and/or St. Vincent de Paul Society of Santa Fe in Jim's name. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Berardinelli Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of the St. Francis Cathedral. ALBERT JUVENCIO GONZALES, 80, died Monday. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederico Gonzales; and mother, Merenciana Gonzales. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosina M. Gonzales; sons, Charlie T. Gonzales and wife Mary Frances, Andrew Gonzales and wife; daughter Lorraine G. AMALIA "MOLLY" QUINTANA LUCERO died Monday at her home in Cerrillos after a lengthy illness. She was born in Pecos to Manuel and Delfinia Quintana on April 13, 1940. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Edward Lucero; her brothers, Manuel Jr. and Johnny Quintana; sisters, Isabel Rodriguez and Cippy Ann Lopez. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, David A. Lucero; sons, Eloy and wife Doriane Romero of Yuma, Ariz., David Lucero Jr. of Cerrillos; daughters, Theresa and husband Leroy Perea of Rio Rancho, Christina Lucero and fiance Juna Moncayo of Phoenix, Noel, Angela and Michelle Lucero of Cerrillos; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Guadalupe Martinez, Paula Sandoval and husband Jim Trujillo of Santa Fe, Mary Quintana of Pecos; brother, Joe Quintana and wife Helen of Albuquerque; and many other relatives and friends. PILAR SERNA, 93, of Hernandez, died Tuesday. She was born on March 14, 1910, to Amarante and Delfinia Serna.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Leopoldo, Jacobo and Joseph.
She is survived by her beloved niece, Jane Serna; two brothers, Ben and Pete; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. today at Block-Salazar Mortuary, and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Espaņola.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Espaņola.
Cremation will follow and interment of her cremains will take place at a later date.

DOMINGO D. GALLEGOS, 66, of Chama died Sunday following a lengthy illness. He worked for 27 years as a heavy equipment operator for the village of Chama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Cleofas Gallegos; brothers, Fidencio Gallegos and Gonzalo Madrid; sister, Maria Vallecios; brother-in-law, Juan Martinez.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Gallegos; daughters, Patsy Gallegos and Gene Madrid, Maryann Gallegos and Ricky Rivas, Cyndi Samora and husband Felipe, Gloria Vigil and husband Archie, Valerie Gallegos and Elifar Samora; son, Anthony Gallegos and Victoria Ulibarri; grandson that he raised, Timothy Gallegos and wife Denise all of Chama; sisters, Ramoncita Martinez from Chama, Angie Bateman of Las Brazos; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation begins 4 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chama with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday also at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chama. Burial will follow at the Chama Cemetery.
