URSHEL GATES
Urshel Gates, 83, of Polvadera, N.M., went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 16, 2008.
Urshel was a native of New Mexico, born Nov. 2, 1924, to Jack and Lila (Walters) Hobbs in Dexter, N.M. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Rev. Roy Gates. Roy and Urshel pastored the First Assembly of God Church in Polvadera for 38 years and served their community with a heart of love. Urshel is also survived by: three daughters, Lila LeCrone of Fort Worth, Texas, Darlene Tucker and husband Tommie of Polvadera and Sarah Lee Hogdin and husband Joe of Williamsburg, N.M.; daughter-in-law, Sandie Gates of Edgewood; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many loving nieces and nephews.
Urshel was preceded in death by daughters, Susie Gates and Sue Angeline Gates; son, Buster Gates; son-in-law, Ted LeCrone, Sr.; and grandsons, Ted LeCrone Jr. and Murphy Gates.
Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at the First Assembly of God Church in Mountainair. Tommy Crider officiated. Interment followed at the Stanley Cemetery. Pallbearers were Derek Gates, Tracy Gates, Buster Gates, Jr., Devon Gates, Jonathan Nunn, Garret Blankenship, David Nunn and Levi Tucker.

ARSENIO "JOHNNY" LOPEZ
Arsenio "Johnny" Lopez, 72, died Jan. 18, 2008 just as he wanted, at his home in McIntosh.
Johnny was born in Santa Fe on June 30, 1935, to Epifanio and Clara Lopez. He was a Korean War veteran and a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Lois "Jackie" Lopez; sisters, Delores Vigil and husband Ray Vigil of Santa Fe and Luisa Montano and husband Jacob Montano of Santa Fe; sons, John Lopez and wife Kristy of Albuquerque and Matthew Lopez and wife Leslie of El Paso; daughter, Patricia Cabazuela of McIntosh; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four stepchildren, Michael Collins, Rusty Collins and wife Kelli Collins, Bill Collins and wife Maria Collins and Tammy Blea and husband Abe Blea.
A memorial service was held Jan. 24 at St. Peter and St. Paul Church in Estancia, which was followed by a private burial.
HERMAN MONTOYA
Herman Montoya, 69, of Grants passed away Jan. 23, 2008 in Albuquerque with his loving family beside him after a valiant struggle against prostate cancer.
Herman was born June 8, 1938, in Leyba, N.M., to Eusebio and Tomasita (Rael) Montoya. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jose "Dino" Montoya and Ray Montoya; and sister, Mary Turner. Herman is survived by his son, Dino Montoya of Moriarty; brothers, Freddie Montoya of Oso Ridge, N.M. and Eusebio Montoya Jr. of Oso Ridge; sister, Vera Marez of Oak Hill, Va.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. A Mass was recited on Jan. 29 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty; Father William Young officiated. Interment followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Griego, Dillon Luna, Larry Grider, Able Sanchez, Sammy Montoya and Sifredo Sandoval. Honorary pallbearers were David King and Gilbert Cilley. Herman was a member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association.

RAYMOND GEORGE CZARNECKI
Raymond George Czarnecki, my true love, my pillar, my co-pilot, my life, quietly gave his hand to our Lord on Jan. 19, 2008 in Albuquerque after a lengthy illness and a fighter of an ITP illness.
Ray was born on June 10, 1925, in Waterford, Wisc., to Casimer and Mary (Datka) Czarnecki. He married Bonnie Lynn Beske on July 6, 1984, in Moriarty.
He was a very proud member of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, a lifetime member of the VFW, an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Ray is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons, Steve Czarnecki and wife Evelyn of Zebulon, N.C., Mike Czarnecki and wife Maria of Friendship, Wisc. and Robbie Czarnecki and fiancée Tawny of Federal Way, Wash.; daughters, Maggie Wagner and husband Jim of Shawno, Wisc.; Sandy Danielson and husband Doug of Raleigh, N.C. and Jackie Koger and husband David of Wake Forest, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A rosary was held Jan. 22 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. A Mass was recited on Jan. 23 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Reverend William E. Young Jr. officiated. Cremation followed and interment was held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. To his family, especially his children, he WAS the "Wind Beneath Their Wings."

FERNANDO TAPIA
Fernando Tapia, 95, of Moriarty passed away Jan. 24, 2008 at his home in Moriarty with his loving family beside him.
Fernando was born May 2, 1912, in Los Cavos, N.M., to Mauricio and Marcelina (Montoya) Tapia. On Jan. 10, 1937, Fernando married Dulcinea Garcia, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tomasita Tapia; and grandson, Fernando Padilla.
Fernando is survived by his sons, Mauricio Tapia and wife Bonnie, Paul Tapia and wife Lynn, Ray Tapia and wife Della, David Tapia and wife Carmen and Archie Tapia; daughters, Josie Alsip and husband Jess, Esther Alonzo and husband John, Miguela Chavez and husband David, Angela Padilla, Beatrice Lloyd and husband Dudley, Molly Hibner and husband Ron, Margie Gurule and husband Steve, Jessica Barela and husband Tommy, and Jackie Ostrout and husband David; sister, Frances Marquez; 38 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary was held Jan. 27 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty. A Mass was recited on Jan. 28 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty; Father William Young officiated. Interment followed at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Moriarty.
Pallbearers were Josh Gutierrez, Moe Tapia, Chris Tapia, Aaron Tapia, Eric Tapia and Heath Lloyd. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Gutierrez Jr. and Jacob Padilla.

HARRIS NEIL WINKLER
Harris Neil Winkler, 73, of Edgewood passed away Jan. 26, 2008 in Albuquerque.
Harris was born April 25, 1934, in Martin County, Ind., to Gerald and Kathleen (Shieks) Winkler. Harris married Shirley Abel on June 13, 1954. He was preceded in death by his father.
Harris is survived by his mother, Kathleen Winkler of Orlines, Ind.; wife, Shirley Winkler of Edgewood; sons, Gary Winkler and wife Patricia of Aurora, Colo.; Keven Winkler and wife Laurie of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; grandsons, Cristopher Winkler; Sean Winkler and granddaughters, Sarah Winkler and Rachel Winkler.
A Memorial Service was held Jan. 31 at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary Chapel in Moriarty; Jim Turner officiated.

James Earl Daugherty Sr., 74, of Moriarty passed away on Jan. 26, 2008 at his home in Moriarty.
James was born March 29, 1932, in Owensboro, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, children, Gloria Ann; Monty Ray; wife Helen (Smith) Daugherty; brothers, Leroy and Lucian.
James is survived by his son, James Daugherty Jr. of Moriarty; daughter, Vonda Lee Cammack of Moriarty and sisters, Wanda Hill and Nina Miller.
A Memorial Service was held Jan. 31 at the Church of Christ in Moriarty. John C. Booth Jr. officiated. Interment was at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Feb 1.

Daniel Raymond Silva Sr., 61, of Moriarty passed away Jan. 30, 2008 at his home in Moriarty with his loving family beside him.
Daniel was born May 19, 1946, in Albuquerque to Perfecto B. and Carmen (Sanchez) Silva. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Silva; and son, Daniel Raymond Silva Jr. Daniel is survived by his step-father, George Lorigo; sons, Arthur Silva and wife Valerie of Corrales; Troy Silva of Los Lunas; Edward Silva of Rio Rancho; daughters, Ramona Silva and husband Keith Gambling of Moriarty; Yvonne Montoya and husband Lawrence Jr. of Ft.
