Beatrice Robles, 55, a life-long resident of Albuquerque beloved and devoted mother, grandmother and sister passed away Sunday, April 19, 1998. She was born on November 16, 1942, in Albuquerque to Luis and Vidala Griego; she was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration for 19 years prior to working at Sandia Casino; she enjoyed crocheting, and was pretty talented in arts and crafts, she really liked playing Bingo and best of all she loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Fernando Griego; and a granddaughter, Duwana Hall. She was loved so much and will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Alexander of Jacksonville, FL, and Michelle Vasquez and husband, David of Albuquerque; two sons, John and Manuel both of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren; sister, Virginia Moles and husband, Allen of Highland Ranch, CO; six brothers, Louie and Veronica Griego of El Sobrante, CA, Charles and Frances Griego, Ramon, Gilbert, Benjamin and Joseph and wife, Armida all of Albuquerque. Visitations will be held this evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave., SW.

Katherine Sherwood, a resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 1998 after a brief illness. Beloved by her family and friends, Katherine is remembered for her kindness, generosity and humor. Her body has been cremated, but her love lives on in those of us who were fortunate to have known and loved her. Memorial contributions may be made to Save the Children, 126 Valencia Dr. NE 87108. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Phyllis Shumway, 70, born December 28, 1927 in Wantage, England, passed away at her home after a courageous battle with cancer on the 19th of April, 1998. Phyllis had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, where she was owner and operator of her own beauty shop. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Robert Shumway in 1979; and son, Michael in 1980. She is survived by her companion of 18 years, Dan Wheeler; daughter, Susan Baca and husband, Phil of Albuquerque; one sister, Doris Martin of Albuquerque; two brothers, Jack Kearvell of Wantage, England, Bert Kearvell and wife, Chris of Australia; one step-brother, James Horne and wife, Linda of Albuquerque; two grandsons, Greg and Bryan Perez of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Leandra Baca of Albuquerque; step-granddaughter, Sonya Chavarria and husband, Rudy; and three step-great-grandchildren of California. She also had several special nieces and nephews with one very special niece, Pat Statkus and husband, Jim and their daughters, Wendy and Jamie of Albuquerque, Dan Wheeler's daughters, Nancy Nelson and husband, Rick of California, Sharon Apodaca and husband, Antonio of Santa Fe, NM, son, Jeffery Wheeler of Santa Fe; granddaughters, Anna and Maya of Santa Fe, and Phillip Nelson of California. Phyllis also had many special friends. A viewing will be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, on Tuesday, April 21, 1998, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Family members will be present. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at University Church of Christ, 1707 Gold Ave SE (Central & University). James Statkus, Jason Buckner, Phil Perez, Bob Keene, Ross Tayfoya, and Mark Wilson will serve as pallbearers. Rick Nelson, Antonio Apodaca, Rudy Chavarria and James Horne are honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5800 Lomas Blvd. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, in charge of arrangements.

Orin A. 'Tony' Simpson Jr., 56, a resident of Albuquerque since 1990, died Sunday, April 19, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Penny of Albuquerque; sons, Scott Simpson and David Simpson, both of Wichita, KS; mother, Elenor Simpson of Largo, FL; brother, Lyle Simpson of Ossian, IN; sister, Jean M. Rhoades of New Orleans, LA; and mother and father-in-law, Wayne and Marsha Frey of La Grange, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Orin Simpson Sr. in 1997. Mr. Simpson was born in Ft. Wayne, IN and graduated from Elmhurst High School in Waynedale, IN. He also attended the University of Indiana in Bloomington. Mr. Simpson served in the U.S. Army. He retired from United Airlines after 30 years of service. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. The family requests memorial contributions be made to a favorite local charity of your choice. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Dr. Juneal Marie Smith, PHD., 43, assistant professor at UAMS, Children's Hospital, medical researcher, a graduate of UCLA School of Health Services M.A., PhD, University of Hawaii MPH, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo B.S. (Nutrition), R.D. (registered dietitian). She is survived by Mary Ann Smith (mother), Gurdon F. Smith (father), Gurdon Smith III (brother), and Cecelia (sister-in-law), and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a world traveler and temporary resident as a Peace Corps worker in Maylasia, a feeding coordinator of refuge camps of Thailand. She worked as a dietician, nutritionalist for the Indian Health Service at Black Rock Hospital, Zuni, NM for several years. She taught for a year at the University of New Mexico before attending UCLA. She will be sorely missed by the world because she was devoted to improving the health of the poor world wide. In addition to her relatives, she will be severely missed by numerous colleagues, fellow workers, members of her church, the Unitarian Universalist, Toastmasters, and many Little Rock and Arkansas friends. A memorial service will be held at the Oasis Renewal Center, Wednesday, 3:00 p.m., April 22, 1998. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that a donation to Habitat for Humanity or a charity of the donor's choice be made.

Mary Iola (Jerry) Smith, born August 21, 1910, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 15, 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.W. 'Chisel' Smith, her parents, Lillie Swofford and George Calvin Logue; her four brothers, two sisters, and her son-in-law, Louis C. Miller. She came from Manassa, CO to Albuquerque in the 1930's where she met her husband. They lived a magnificent life. As the wife of a General Contractor, she was an active member of the Valley Gardeners, Assistance League, Tanoan, Four Hills and Albuquerque Country Clubs. She is survived by her two daughters, Marjorie S. Miller and Judi K. Sinks and husband, Mitch Sinks; grandchildren, Katie Benedict of Wylie, TX, Ginny Miller of Houston, TX and Steven J. Westman of Albuquerque; and great-granddaughter, Amanda Mylan of Wylie, TX. She loved her garden and she loved her family. On her request there will be a cremation and no service. The family will greet friends at her home on Saturday, April 25, 1998 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers she would have preferred contributions to be made to the National Kidney Foundation of New Mexico, 4919 Prospect Ave, NE, 87110 or any charity of your choice. She will be missed, but her flowers will continue to grow. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

M. Elizabeth (Bette) Stallman, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM, left this earth peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning April 18, 1998; she was 92 years old. Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Stallman; and a son, Bob Stallman. Bette and Otto moved from Kankakee, IL to Albuquerque in 1945. They lived on the west side for many years, where Bette was active in the Lavaland School PTA, and West Mesa Garden Club. She was a Girl Scout leader, and an active member in churches in the area, a member of the IBEW women's auxiliary, and an Eastern Star. Bette was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church. Bette loved to have her family together and recorded many smiling faces in her photograph albums. Bette's family and friends will miss her love, kindness, and jubilant sense of humor. Survivors are her daughters, Patty and husband, Roque Feliciano, Carolyn and husband, Kenny Hall; grandchildren, Vickie and Jack Knox, Barbara Harris, Debbie and Jimmy Campagnola, Aaron and Melodi Feliciano, Dale and Christine Feliciano, Rob Warrick, Bob and Bette Stallman, and J.B. Buffalow; her great-grandchildren, Amie and Eric Harris, Ryan and Mike Campagnola, R.C., Shannon and Noel Warrick, and Eli Feliciano. Services for Mrs. Stallman were held on Tuesday, April 21, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 4800 All Saints Rd. NW, with Pastor Tim Theis officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park. Rio Rancho Funeral Home 2400 Southern Blvd., Rio Rancho, NM.

Edmundo (Moonie) S. Tafoya, 64 years young, born February 18, 1934 in Tafoya, NM, passed away on April 17, 1998. He graduated from Farley High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1956, stationed in Germany. He worked as a bartender in Denver, CO and retired from Peterson Paint Co. in Pueblo, CO. Upon retirement in 1991, he moved to Albuquerque. Moonie was very young at heart, a poet, creative writer, and toy collector. He will be missed greatly by his family, friends and neighbors. He is survived by his sisters, Delia Cordova, Ruth Gonzales and husband, John, Eloisa Martinez and Eulalia Medina and husband, Miguel; brothers, Eladio Tafoya and wife, Stella, Tito Tafoya and wife, Maryann, and Alex Tafoya. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 1998 at St. Jude Thaddeus Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Burial arrangements by Direct Services, 4501 4th St. NW, 343-8008.

Howard C. Tripp, 80, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, April 18, 1998. He is survived by his son, Randy Tripp and wife, Elaine of Tijeras, NM; grandchildren, Tammy Marksberry and husband, Clint of Rio Rancho, NM, Dawn Schmidt and husband, Derek of Albuquerque, Sean Tripp of Tijeras, Jamie Tripp of Tijeras, Joshua Tripp of Tijeras, Bradley Tripp of Tijeras, and Liz Tucker and husband, Scott of Belen, NM; great-grandchildren, Tara, J.D., Ethan, and his 'little girl' Judy Seybold of Tijeras; and numerous foster grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mr. Tripp was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Gladys in 1989. Mr. Tripp worked for P.N.M. for 39 years, and he was a volunteer fireman, firechief, and assistant chief at Bernalillo County Fire Department, District 9. Mr. Tripp was a member of Forest Meadow Baptist Church. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas NE, Tuesday, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., and cremation will occur after visitation. Memorial services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Burial will take place Thursday at Sunset Memorial Park. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas NE.

Brad Vanlandingham, 44, a lifetime resident of New Mexico, and of the Albuquerque area for the past 30 years, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 1998. Brad was born April 18, 1954, the son of A.V. and Zeldic Taylor Vanlandingham in Las Vegas, NM. He is survived by his wife, Glenna of Albuquerque; daughter, Stormy of Albuquerque; mother, Zeldic Valandingham of Albuquerque; father, A.V. Vanlandingham of Dallas, TX; brother, Warren Vanlandingham of Albuquerque; sister, Euteua Lister of Arizona. There will be a memorial service for Brad on Thursday, April 23, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with the Rev. Sandra Bess officiating. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary, providing full service, including floral designing, 892-9920.

Viola Archibeque, beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend was welcomed into the arms of the Lord, our Savior, Tuesday, March 19, 2002. Viola was a resident of Algodones, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lumina Trujillo; brother, Luis Trujillo; and special sister-in-law, Barbara Trujillo. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Alfonso E. Archibeque; three sons, Vincent Archibeque and wife, Lisa of La Mesa, CA, Gregory Archibeque and wife, Darlene of Algodones, NM, and Gabriel Archibeque and wife, Michelle of Albuquerque, NM; her precious grandsons, Gregory, Francisco, and Michael Archibeque all of Algodones, NM. Also surviving are three brothers, Isidro Trujillo of Bernalillo, Paul Trujillo and wife, Margie of San Diego, CA, Amado Trujillo of Bernalillo; two sisters, Irene Moreno and husband, Richard of Bernalillo and Luisa Trujillo of Albuquerque; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Viola will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those who knew and loved her. A Memorial Rosary will be recited Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery. Funeral Services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th Street NW, 898-3160.

Julia R. Aucker, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002. She is survived by her son, Steve Aucker of Albuquerque; daughter, Mary Hahn, and husband, Keith of Albuquerque; grandsons, Karl Aucker and wife, Terri and Troy Aucker, both of Durango, CO and Mark Aucker and wife, Judy of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Trina Little and husband, Jerry of Durango, CO and Rylee Hahn of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Desiree and Garrett Little of Durango, CO; and sister, Viola Klenzing of Albuquerque. Mrs. Aucker was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Major Lon E. Aucker, U.S.A.F. (Ret.). She was a member of the Desert Rose #70, Order of the Eastern Star. Graveside Services were held Friday, 9:00 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, with Pastor Lemuel M. Boyles officiating. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

The family of Mr. Albert 'Shorty' Barros wishes to thank all their relatives and friends who were in attendance of the Rosary and Funeral Services. They would also like to express their gratitude for all the love, care and compassion that has been shown to them.
