Vergie Marie Kruse Bernadette, died July 18, 2002 of complications from stroke. Vergie was born October 13, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Myrtle Sanders Hedlund and Edward Hedlund. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Hugo Bernadette; and four children, Dottie Bernadette Kiernan of Brea, CA, Charles Bernadette, Tommy Bernadette, Kathy Ryan and husband, Jimmy and her precious Joy; granddaughter, Sara Bernadette, all of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. Vergie moved to Albuquerque with her mother and stepfather, Harvey Kruse, early in 1941 when they bought and operated the Country Club Motel. She attended Washington Jr. High and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1945. People loved Vergie for her kind heart and giving nature. She had a special love for babies and worked for many years as a pediatric office nurse for Dr. Eleanor Adler. In addition, she found time to be a Cub Scout den mother, an officer in the Home School Association and later managed the office for the family business, Bernadette Plumbing & Heating, until her retirement in 1992. She was a devout Catholic and belonged to the Immaculate Conception Parish, and now to her Heavenly Home. The family would like to thank everyone for the tremendous outpouring of love and prayers for Vergie. It is a testament to the effect one truly good person can have.
