Oscar G. 'Top' Salars, 89, of Silver City passed away in Memorial Medical Center, Friday, September 27, 2002. Graveside services with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 18 and VFW Post 3347 will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery. Mr. Salars was born August 5, 1913 in Silver City, NM. He was the son of William Edward Salars and Sarah Ellen Roberts Salars. He was married to Lucy Lee Anderson who preceded him in death September 21, 2000. He is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Lynnette Gadberry and her husband, Freddy of Silver City; three granddaughters, Chris Jackson and her husband, Bobby, Kathy Bullington and her husband, Curtis 'Buzz' and Carrie Brown and her husband, Eric all of Silver City; six great-grandchildren, Keith Wade Bullington, Erika Page Bullington, Stevi Brown, Jade Brown, Brandon Brown and Damon Narvaez; two brothers, Calvin Salars and his wife, Barbara and Joe Roy Salars and his wife, Susie. Mr. Salars was employed by the Grant County Road Department and the U.S. Forest Service. He was a member of the CCC and the Army National Guard. His enlisted time with the National Guard started in 1929 with Troop F, 111th Brigade horse calvary and ended in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to Silver city and helped start the Army National Guard in 1947 with Battery B716th Gun Battalion. He worked as the maintenance technician and First Sergeant with Battery B until 1961 when he moved to Deming, NM as the supervisor of the Organizational Sergeant Major of the 2nd Gun Battalion and in 1967 he was promoted to the rank of Command Sergeant Major for the State of New Mexico and was the first Command Sergeant Major in the nation for the Army National Guard. He retired August 4, 1978 from the Army National Guard. Mrs. Salars enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, but most of all he enjoyed playing golf and played almost everyday, rain or shine. Family and friends will miss him. Flowers are welcome as Oscar loved them or memorials, as part of his farewell, may be made to WNMU Grant County Alumni Chapter for a scholarship fund for golfing students, c/o Western New Mexico Foundation, P.O. Ramon Sanchez, born, January 19, 1958 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away as a result of a tragic motorcycle accident in Tucson, Arizona on September 26, 2002. Ramon was a resident of Tucson, Arizona for the last 6 years. He was survived in death by his father, Alfred Sanchez, Sr.; his mother, Estella Sanchez; his brothers, Alfred Sanchez, Jr., Andrew Sanchez, and Chris Sanchez. He also leaves behind his beloved 'Tucson Family' and friends. He was a loving uncle, affectionately known only as 'Uncle Bam-Bam' to his niece, Anita Duran, and great-nephew, Nicholas Vincent Duran. Ramon's many accomplishments included: working as a Seismic Engineer for Sergeant and Lundy in Chicago, Illinois for 9 years, building nuclear plants. While in Chicago, he was a competitor in Judo at the Jiu Jitsu Institute, where he received his International Black Belt. Upon return to Albuquerque, he studied at the University of New Mexico, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology. He then migrated to Tucson, Arizona, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona in Archeology, which became his passion. After receiving his degree he was first employed by Desert Archeology, and most recently worked for Western Cultural Resource Management as field supervisor and crew chief, conducting archeological surveys, survey reports and asserting archeological recommendations, and directing field personnel in excavation techniques and documentation strategies. His passion in this field was so great that his future plans included studying for his Doctorate's degree in Archeology. This also included a desire to teach in this area at the college level. Ramon's passion for motorcycles led him to becoming a member of the 'Elite Club of Hoggs' in Tucson, Arizona. He fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams of owning a Harley and 'riding free.' His other affiliations include being a member of the United States Judo Federation with the Jiu Jitsu Institute of Chicago, where he had a 'Kodokan' membership, carrying the rank of Black Belt. Ramon was also a card-carrying member of the NRA. Ramon had a passion for helping others, and a willingness to do whatever was necessary to support that passion. Memorial service will take place on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (3 blocks N. of Paseo Del Norte) with Father Galli, officiating. A reception will follow at French Mortuary - Reception Hall. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Ray's dedication to higher education, the family is requesting that donations be made to the college fund for 'Ray's Vision for the Future,' Nicolas Vincent Duran, beloved nephew. Michael A. Sanchez-Smith, 31, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, September 30, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Felicia Sanchez of Albuquerque; father, Luiz R. Smith of Denver, CO; sisters, Gina Vallejos and husband, Ted Lucero and Rhianna Ruiz and husband, Carlos; grandmother, Trinie Sanchez, all of Albuquerque; four nephews, Joshua Garcia, Joey Vallejos, Carlos Ruiz, Jr. and Demetri Lucero; and many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his brother, David Molina; and stepfather, Humberto Molina. Services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at Church of Christ, 1908 Sunshine Terrace SE, with James Lujan officiating. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may visit Church of Christ, 1908 Sunshine Terrace SE, Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Dudley J. Sargent, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989, and coming to New Mexico from Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2002. Dudley was born June 4, 1915, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Jones Sargent in Davidson, Oklahoma. He had worked with the Singer Sewing Machine Company in sales and service before retiring. Following his retirement, Dudley drove a school bus for the Midland(TX) school district, he also was a mechanic for the Vanadium Mine in Durango, CO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye, son, Bobby Sargent; and daughter, Rita Sargent. Dudley is survived by one son, Billy J. Sargent of Los Lunas, NM; and one daughter, Wanda Ray of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, William Ray, Michael Ray, and Gary Sargent; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Robert Ray. The Visitation for Dudley will be held today, Wednesday, October 2, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Service will be Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary with Jake Finkelstein, Elder, Idalia Congregation, Jehovah's Witness, officiating. Entombment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. It has been suggested that contributions be made in Dudley's name to the VistaCare Hospice, 5201 Venice NE, Suite A/B, Albuquerque, NM 87113. Della L. Spicer, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away September 28, 2002. She is survived by her children, Jesse Spicer of Albuquerque, Glen T. Spicer of Atlanta, Bill Johnson of Long Beach, CA, Leroy Spicer of San Jose, CA, Michael Spicer of Albuquerque, Annie Shaw of Albuquerque, Lizzie Redmond of San Francisco, CA and Katherine Morgan of Albuquerque; her sister, Mary J. King of Georgia and brother, Alex Johnson of Cleveland, OH. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 4, 2002, 11:30 a.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church, 608 Avenida Cesar Chavez SE, with Pastor Victor Wilson, officiating. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Erron Rae Todd, 22, died Saturday, September 28, 2002. She is survived by her mother, Donna Todd and fiancé, Geary Krontz of Albuquerque; father, Chris Todd and wife, Becky of El Paso, TX; sister, Christine Montano and husband, Josh of Vista, CA; stepbrother, David Ware; grandparents, Bob and Sandra Sherman of Lubbock, TX; grandmother, Joan Hoole of Niceville, FL; many cousins, aunts and uncles; and her intended, Chris Michel. Erron was a senior and honor student at UNM and a student teacher at Montezuma Elementary School and also worked at Farmers Market. She will be missed greatly by her family and by the many people who's lives she touched. Services will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m., at St. Mark's On The Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Pl. Lilian Trampe, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, September 30, 2002. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Taylor and husband, Bill, and Jean Herbert and husband, Howie, Jr., all of Albuquerque; son, Steven Trampe and wife, Mary of Temple, TX; grandchildren, Sean Taylor and wife, Stefanie, Michelle Taylor Baca, Nikki Burnett and husband, Andrew, Howie Herbert III and wife, Christy, Molly Herbert Martinez and husband, Bennie, Corey Trampe and wife, Natasha, Lisa Trampe and Scott Trampe; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Florida Norden of St. Charles, MO and Frances Sullivan of Alamogordo, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Trampe on June 8, 2002. Mrs. Trampe was born in St. Charles, MO and graduated from St. Charles High School. She moved to Los Alamos in 1955 and has lived in Albuquerque since 1957. Mrs. Trampe enjoyed working with the Cub Scouts. She was an avid bowler and golfer and loved traveling. Services will be held Friday, October 4, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Chaplain David Williams officiating. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sean Taylor, Stefanie Taylor, Michelle Taylor Baca, Nikki Burnett, Andrew Burnett, Howie Herbert III, Christy
Herbert, Molly Herbert Martinez, Bennie Martinez, and Corey Trampe. Honorary pallbearers will be Natasha Trampe, Lisa Trampe and Scott Trampe. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Thursday, October 3, 2002, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family would like to especially thank Presbyterian Hospice for the special care they gave to Lilian.

Edna L. Wendt, age 81, passed away Sunday, at 12:25 PM, September 29, 2002 in Albuquerque, due to a long fight with cancer. She was born September 16, 1921 in Proctor, Oklahoma to the late Charlie and Millie (Graham) Sanders. She is survived by one daughter, Arlene L. and her husband, Richard Fischer of Moriarty, New Mexico; three sons, David L. and his wife, Terri Wendt of Albuquerque, Gerald E. Wendt of Albuquerque, George H. and his wife, Deborah of Albuquerque; two sisters, Ella Skillern of Bixby, Oklahoma, Mildred Hamilton of Proctor, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Lynn King, Stephen Wendt, Lisa Valdez, Tammy Satterfield, Cristine Dennison, Heather Rogers-Wendt, Michael Wendt and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Wendt and her brother, Clarence Sanders. She was raised on the family farm in Oklahoma. She graduated from Haskell Indian Boarding School. While working in Washington D.C. she joined the Marine Corp. and was stationed back in Oklahoma. Passing through New Mexico she met and married Arnold Wendt in 1946. After her career with the Marine Corp. she worked with the B.I.A. and retired in 1985. She then continued to work with the family business, Interior Materials. After 54 years of marriage she was widowed in March of 2000. Even with her health problems she was always ready to go play Bingo. Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., October 1, 2002 at the Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle Blvd. N.E. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, afternoon, October 2, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. also in the Fitzgerald Chapel. Following the services she will be taken back to Proctor, Oklahoma for services and interment.

Theodore H. Yonkers, age 83, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2002. He was born in Whitesboro, NY, September 30, 1919, the son of John and Hannah Yonkers. Mr. Yonkers was a graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, and had a career as a self employed insurance adjuster. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army in the CBI Region, (China, Burma, India). He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #799 of Oriskany, NY. Mr. and Mrs. Yonkers moved to Albuquerque in 1975 following retirement. Survivors include Derfla, his beloved wife; children, Alfred Williams, Kirk Williams and wife, Shirley, and Cindi Williams and husband, Peter Jamison; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cassandra Geiger. Mr. Yonkers was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4. The church is located at 1100 Indian School NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or a charity of your choice are suggested. Stephen Joseph Baca, born March 27, 1930, died Saturday, November 21, 1998. He is survived by his sisters, Erlinda Baca, Perciliana C de Baca and husband, Manny and Bertille Baca. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abran and Lucia Baca; sister, Fulgencia Baca; brothers, Abran, Ubaldo, and most recently, Marcelino Baca, November 11, 1998. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was awarded medals of Korean Service Medals, 2 Bronze Service Stars, and the U.N. Service Medal. He had been in and out of the hospitals ever since. Perciliana and Manny C de Baca cared for him for about 20 years. He was recently placed in a nursing home. Rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, by Fr. Paul Baca. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Pena Blanca, NM, with Fr. Hillaire Valiquette, Celebrant. Interment will be at Pena Blanca Cemetery in Pena Blanca, NM. Pallbearers will be Ned Baca, Frankie Baca, Herman Baca, Manuel C. de Baca, Danny Baca and Nevarez C de Baca. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Monday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Tomasita R. Bustamante passed away on Saturday, November 21, 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albino Bustamante, Sr.; her daughter, Susie Templeton; and her son, Luciano Bustamante. She is survived by her son, Santiago Bustamante of Santa Fe; her son, Albino Bustamante, Jr. of Albuquerque; her son, Joseph M. Bustamante of Albuquerque; her daughter, Roaline Lopez of Las Vegas, NM; her daughter, Dolores Roybal of Albuquerque; her daughter, Jane Crespin of La Habra, CA; her daughter, Tomasita Bustamante of Los Alamos, NM. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. A musical tribute will be held on Monday, November 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary. A recitation of the Rosary will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. also in the Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, November 24, 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mary Candelaria, 87, Beloved Mother, grandmother, sister and friend, was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 19, 1998. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She is survived by her sons, Tommy Chavez and wife, Alice of Half Bay, CA, Roy Anaya, and Gilbert Chavez; daughters, Margie Castillo and husband, Robert, Gloria Woods, all of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Max Gutierrez and wife, Emma, Domingo Gutierrez and wife, Bobbie, Eliseio Gutierrez and wife, Mary, Victor Gutierrez and wife, Dolores, and Frank Gutierrez, all of Albuquerque. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated this morning, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Michael Braniff, Michael Braniff, Jr., Daniel Woods, Steve Candelaria, Nick Candelaria, and Patrick Candelaria. Honorary Casket bearers will be Carlos Woods, and Mario Montoya. Services are under the direction of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave., SW.

Curt Conklin, 76, passed away suddenly November 22, 1998. He retired in 1970 as an Air Force Major, having served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He is survived by his wife, Helen Conklin; sister, Florence Barber and husband, Harry; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Phil DeVivo; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss him. Memorial services are pending. Private interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be given to your favorite charity. Clair John Eichinger, Jr., age 65, passed away on November 21, 1998. Mr. Eichinger was born in Rochester, MN on September 28, 1933 to Clair and Melva Eichinger. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of the family home in Rio Rancho; his sons, David and wife, Beth Burnett of West LaFayette, IN, Daniel and wife, Dr. Donna Rogan of Pleasantville, NY, Douglas and wife, Lori of Virginia Beach, VA, John and wife, Roberta of Danville, IN, Mark and wife, Michelle of Tijeras, NM; his grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob, Colin, Clare, Connor, Amy, Douglas, Jr., Elizabeth and Michael; his brother, John and wife, Fran of Lakeville, MN; his sister, Judy and husband, Dale Heffron of Vadnais Heights, MN; one niece and four nephews. Mr. Eichinger was an Elder for the Presbyterian Church; a graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, MN; Before retirement he was a chemical engineer at Welch Allyn for 25 years. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 1998, 11:00 a.m., at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Kay Huggins officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family to establish a scholarship fund for St. Paul YMCA Camp in St. Croix for boys and girls. Gerald 'Gerry' Gay, 60, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, November 20, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pat Gay; sons, Bob Gay, Tom Gay, Jim Gay and Bill Gay and wife, Sheryl, all of Albuquerque; grandsons; Tyson Gay, chase Gay, Skyler Gay and Dillon Gay; granddaughters, Lexie Millsap of Amarillo, TX, Ashley Gay of Dallas, TX and Rennae Gay of Dunedin, FL. Mr. Gay was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan Gay. He was a member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ. Mr. Gay retired from Sandia National Laboratories after 40 years. Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Netherwood Park Church of Christ, 5101 Indian School NE, with Mr. Wayne Sharp officiating. Interment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bob Gay, Tom Gay, Jim Gay, Bill Gay, Tyson Gay, and Chase Gay. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Albuquerque Christian Childrens Home, 5700 Winter Haven Rd. NW, 87120. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
