Lois Evelyn Vickers, 77, passed away in Albuquerque, NM, Tuesday morning, November 20, 2001. She was born December 9, 1923 in Alamogordo, NM. Survivors include her husband, Col. Robert E. Vickers, Jr., (USAF Ret.) of Albuquerque; her mother-in-law, Ann K. Vickers, Albuquerque; her sister, Lajuanna Bruington and her niece, Cathryn Bruington both of Redding, CA; her niece, the Rev. Dru Ferguson of Dallas, TX; her close companion and loving care-giver, Rae Robinson of Albuquerque; and many close cousins, and other relatives and dear friends. Mrs. Vickers was a member of the Travis Park United Methodist Church in San Antonio, TX, and during her professional career, served as Financial Director for medical associates and for a large plant nursery firm. Graveside Services, with interment, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2001 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Mrs. Vickers' niece, the Rev. Dru Ferguson, of Dallas, TX will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 525 San Pedro Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107. Mrs. Lawrence T. Abraham, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2002. She died peacefully at home surrounded by family after being cared for by her devoted husband. The former Wadette Goze, a native New Mexican, born October 2, 1916 in Magdelena, NM to a prominent ranching family George and Adele Goze. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret. Mrs. Abraham graduated from El Paso Business College and earned her Teaching Certificate from UNM in 1938. She taught school in Magdalena in the late 1930's. On a trip to the 1939 New York World's Fair she met her future husband, Lawrence T. Abraham, married October 6, 1940 and began a love affair lasting 63 years. The Abrahams lived in Magdalena, Espanola and resided in Los Alamos from 1942 to 1946. While in Los Alamos she was instrumental in starting the USO and served as its president. In 1946, the Abrahams with their daughters moved to Santa Fe and resided there until 1976. While in Santa Fe she attended First Presbyterian Church, served as President of the Dig N Hope Club Garden Club, served on the State Board of Garden Clubs, President of the Stitch N Bitch Club, Chairperson of the March of Dimes, Girl Scout Leader, served as President of the Santa Fe City Council, Secretary/Treasurer of Lawrence T. Abraham Construction, Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls and was named Santa Fe Woman of the Year in 1970. Mr. & Mrs. Abraham moved to Albuquerque in 1976. While in Albuquerque she continued her civic activities and focused on her love of writing poetry and painting. Wadette is a chartered member of the Tom L. Popejoy Society at UNM. She is survived by her devoted husband and companion, Lawrence; loving daughter Sandra Dhieux and her husband, Ernie, of Broomfield Co.; their children Joyel Dhieux of Boulder Co., and Matthew Dhieux of Broomfield Co.; Loving daughter Dr. Karen Abraham of Albuquerque, long time administrator of the University of New Mexico; and loving son, Larry, his wife, Beverly, and their son, Geoffrey, all of Albuquerque. Wadette's greatest success and focus of her life was her family. She was devoted to her husband Lawrence and doted on her children and grandchildren. The incredible loss of her presence is balanced only by the lasting example and legacy of her amazing energy, love of life and the commitment she brought to her life's role of wife, mother, friend and humanitarian. Her strength and love of life left a lasting impact on everyone she met. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, November 24th at 1 pm at the UNM Alumni Chapel, Rev. Ned Ross officiating. Oscar Berlier of Encino and Los Chavez went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at the age of 78, following a courageous battle with cancer. Oscar was born and raised near Wagon Mound. He had resided in Los Chavez since 1953, and was employed by Sandia National Labs for 30 years, while farming and ranching on the side. Since 1986 the majority of his time was spent at Encino on the ranch doing what he most enjoyed. Oscar's greatest love was his family, but he also loved ranching, hunting and fishing. He was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez and a current member of the First Baptist Church of Vaughn. Oscar was a man of integrity, wisdom and strength. He worked hard to provide for those he loved. He had a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilma Howell Berlier; son, Jim Berlier and wife, Vicki of Estancia; daughter, Eileen Goode and husband, Ken of Albuquerque; two granddaughters, Jennifer Berlier of Las Cruces, Sheila Aragon and husband, Dominic of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter Marisa Aragon; sister, Clara Lucas and husband, Sylvester of Albuquerque; brothers, Ralph Berlier and wife, Betty of T or C, Loyd Berlier and wife, Joyce of Deming, many loving nieces, nephews and friends, also survive him. His parents, Harry & Delia Berlier, sisters Alice Berlier, Nora Beckner, Ethel Dennis and Grace Peery and his beloved and only grandson John Berlier, preceded him in death. Visitation and services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez (5 miles South of Los Lunas on Hwy 314, across from the Old Mill store). The Visitation will be on Friday afternoon, November 22, 2002 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 11:00 a.m., with pastors Norm Riggin, Boyd Morerod and Albert Hagan officiating. Burial will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. Pallbearers will be Howard Beckner, Lynn Lucas, Mark Tiley, Bill Howell, Andy Otis and Victor Powell. Honorary Pallbearers are Estevan Jaramillo, Larry Elliott, Vic Peery, Raymond Dennis and Carl Hullinger. Thomas R. Clew (Clugh), 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2002. Thomas was born in Kahnawake, Quebec Canada. Thomas is survived by his loving children, Yvonne Sabrina Gurule, Ida Chela Marin, Christopher Charles Clew, Leeann Martinez, Sueanne Smith and husbands; mother-in-law, Philomena Garcia; companion, Frances Casiquito; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter;two sisters; and one brother. A Rosary will be held November 24, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Church located at 5901 St. Joseph's Dr. NW, Albuquerque. Sherrell S.R. Davis, 72, a resident of Albuquerque for 46 years, who spent his life in service for others, died Monday, November 18, 2002. He was known for his integrity and honesty in the local car sales market. His last years were spent doing what he dearly loved, working for the Quality Dealerships by DiLorenzo. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and customers. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Kay Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Lorrie Davis; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Murphy; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild, all of Albuquerque; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Mildred Davis of Brownwood, TX and Haskell and Barbara Davis of Del City, OK; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Davis was a lifetime member of the Albuquerque Breakfast Civitan Club. Daniel Saunderson DeHart was born in Keosauqua, Iowa May 10, 1925 and died November 12, 2002. Dan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eloise (Sally) DeHart; their daughter, Ann DeHart and her husband, Robert Milne; three granddaughters, Michelle, Lauren and Marie Milne; and a brother, Dell DeHart and his wife, Cheryl. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 26 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church at 211 Jefferson N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87108. Donnie Herbert, Jr., 50, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, November 21, 2002. He is survived by his father, Don Herbert, Sr.; brothers, Randy Herbert and wife Robin, and Jim Herbert and wife Danna; sister, Cheryl Herbert; children, Brian and Cheryl Humphries; many nieces and nephews, Ashley, Lindsay, Stephen, Brittney, Cory, Jennifer and Little Brittany, all of Albuquerque. Donnie loved bass fishing and playing golf. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Sunday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Dr. Robert J. Kinney, 94, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie; and is survived by three nephews and one niece, David, Joe, Edward and Kathryn; and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces, all of whom will miss his wit and wisdom. Born March 23, 1909, in Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Kinney was a graduate of Princeton University (1931) and Harvard Medical School (1935). His lifelong career in internal medicine was highlighted by work at the University of New Mexico, Bellevue Hospital (NYC), Boston Psychopathic Hospital, New York University College of Medicine, as an instructor in preventive medicine at Cornell University, as a resident in medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and as Chief of the Department of Medicine at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Kinney also served in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and was a consultant to the U.S. Veterans' Administration in Wisconsin. Dr. and Mrs. Kinney were married on August 8, 1942 in Ithaca, NY, and remained happy together until her death in 1991. Longtime residents of the village of Los Ranchos, the Kinneys enjoyed horseback riding, gardening and traveling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Mary Frances Mexal (age 76), "Buck" to her family and friends, died Thursday, November 21, 2002. She was born in Oplin, TX, the third of three daughters to Dewey Crenshaw and Maud Oglesby Crenshaw. She is survived by her sister, Maudell Berglund and her husband, Marlon of Albuquerque; daughter, Catherine Mexal of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Regina Thomas and her husband, William and their daughter, Ellie of Ravenden, AR; son, Mark and his wife, Sandra and their children, Patrick and Kate of Scottsdale, AZ; son, John and his wife, Barbara and their sons, Stephen of Denver, CO and Nicolas of Las Cruces, NM; niece and nephews; and her good friend, Beulah Boles of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Oma; and husband, Gustaf Mexal. With enormous bravery, she moved to Albuquerque in 1962 with her four young children to build a new life. Her sister, Maudell with her husband Marlon offered their home and wonderful moral and financial support to help them get settled in their new home. She resided in Albuquerque for over 40 years where she was a license practical nurse at Presbyterian Hospital for nearly 20 years. She loved gardening and bingo and was an excellent cook. She had a great sense of humor coupled with southern charm. She will be missed by all who loved her. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

Edith "Edie" Fyffe Miranda, 48, passed away November 21, 2002 at UNM Medical Center with loving friends and "family" at her side. Edie is survived by her sister, Jan Fyffe of Fairborn, OH; she was preceded in death by both parents, William and Esta Fyffe of Fairborn, OH. Edie's "family" also included many loving friends and her "daughter" and "grandson", Rebecca and Daemon. Edie was the most courageous woman her friends had ever known. She tried to live a life worthy of love and respect, taking great emotional risks and opening her heart to others. One of her great passions was literature and she enjoyed all forms of the arts. Edie especially loved her work with ACLOA and the Adobe Theater. Edie's passing will leave a void in the lives of friends she loved and who loved her, Kathy, Susan, Jerry, Rose, Rich, Mary, Dennis, Jennifer, Carmen, Deniece and many others. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Heights First Nazarene Church in Albuquerque.

Clifton L. Moreland, age 79, passed away suddenly at his residence on Thursday morning, November 21, 2002. Cliff Moreland was born October 23, 1923 in McKinney, TX. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a World War II Veteran. He was on the Board of Directors of the Tucumcari Federal Savings & Loan Association, a member of the Tucumcari Volunteer Fire Dept., Past President of the Tucumcari Quay County Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Tucumcari Lions Club, a life member of the B P O Elks Lodge 1172 of Tucumcari. For 18 years he served as a New Mexico State Representative in Santa Fe. He owned and operated the Tucumcari Oil Company, was the Gulf Jobber in the Tucumcari area and owned and operated the Moreland Truck Company. Surviving Cliff Moreland is his wife, Marjie Moreland of Tucumcari; three sisters-in-law, Betty Skipworth of El Paso, TX, Earline Kalverweiden and Mardelle Moreland both of Tucumcari; and one brother-in-law, Ted Marshall of Truth or Consequences, NM. He is preceded in death by his son, Bruce Moreland; brother, Averly Moreland; and one sister, Janice Marshall. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the family plot of the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. John L. Faith, David Hale, Bill Curry, Paul Quintana, Don Hofman, Calvin Litchfield, Jon Nunn, Jerry Culbine and Tim O'Quinn. Officiating will be Rev. Melvadyne Ross, 81, died peacefully in her sleep, Friday, November 15, 2002. Beloved daughter, sister, and mother, "Mel" as she was usually called, was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Born in Toledo, OH, December 23, 1920, she spent her childhood and young adult years in the Sheepshead Bay Neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. After her marriage in February of 1948, she left New York with her husband and his parents, moving to New Mexico in 1949. The next years of her life were spent in New Mexico until her death. She is survived by her son, Phillip M. Ross of Albuquerque; and brother, Ray Bagen of St. Petersburg, FL. The family would like to thank the staff of ManorCare Camino Vista for the wonderful care provided the last years of Melvadyne's life. Melvin B. Schall, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at his home in Albuquerque, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his loving daughters, Patricia Consterdine, Debbie Griego, Joyce Lopez and husband, Jose, Marlene Stokes and husband, Keith, all of New Mexico; 10 grandchildren, Kim Fujimori of San Francisco, CA, Mike and Daniel Fujimori of Los Angeles, CA, Jason and Jamey Griego, Danielle and Brandy Lopez, and Josh, Justin, and Chelsea Hannamann, all of New Mexico; 4 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan, and Jordan Fujimori, all of Los Angeles, CA, and Morgan Acosta of New Mexico; sister, Jean Davis of Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Schall was born on June 3, 1920. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant for the 458th, 230th Airborne in 1945, later retiring from Levi Strauss in 1982. He will be deeply missed. Martin A. Serna, 86, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, November 22, 2002. He is survived by his son, Patrick Serna and wife, Eva of Lancaster, CA; daughters, Patricia Case and husband, John of Livermore, CA and Sandra Madsen and husband, Lyle of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Virginia Lopez, Ann Romero and Aurelia Gonzales and husband, Ralph, all of Albuquerque. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Serna on December 15, 1993; brothers, Paul Serna of Pereris, CA and Julian A. Serna and wife, Vangie of Albuquerque; and brother-in-law, Frank T. Romero. Services will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m., at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul NE, with Deacon Bob Lewis officiating. Interment will follow the service. Bon Albert Thomson, born February 1, 1937, passed away suddenly into the hands of our Lord, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 19, 2002. He was a loving husband, father and friend to many. He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Thomson and is survived by his mother, Lulu Crista of El Paso, TX; his wife, Nona Francis ("Nee" Taylor) Thomson of the family home in Elephant Butte, NM; three daughters, Kerry and her husband, Dick Sparks of Belen, NM; Carolyn and her husband, Martin Baca of Belen; Bon Jean and her husband, David Rush of Denton, TX; six grandchildren, Benjamin Sparks, Sarah and Bon Pau Baca, Jeremy, James and Zachary Rush; sister, Therma Keene of El Paso, TX; brother, Gerald Thomson of Venezuela; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bon was born in Santa Fe, NM and graduated from Robertson High School in Las Vegas, NM, class of 1956. He worked for PNM for 18 years in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. He worked for ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia for 17 years and for Plains Electric for two years and retired to Elephant Butte in 1995. He currently served as trustee to Sierra Electric Co-op. and was Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board for the City of Elephant Butte. He was an active member of the Church at the Butte and his favorite passage from the Bible was I Corinthians 13:"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves...and now these things remain; faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." We love you, Dad. A Memorial Celebration Service will be conducted on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church at the Butte with Rev. Robert Rachiug officiating. Mrs. Phyllis Torres, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on November 19, 2002. Mrs. Torres is survived by her daughter, Adella Garduno and husband, Raymond; two sons, Alonso Baca and wife, Mary and Albert Baca; three sisters, Carrie Parrish, Terrie Strogen and Becky Benavidez and husband, Edward; her caregiver, Lonnie Otero; special 1st cousin, Rafaelita Unale; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Torres was a member of the Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic, 1860 Griegos NW, at 11:00am by Father Ramon Aragon. The family will be receiving friends after 10:30 a.m. at the Church. Interment of cremains will follow at a later date. MARILYN LONG, 70, of White Rock, died Thursday at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on Sept. 8, 1932, in Enid, Okla. She attended Phillips University in Enid and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education in 1955. After living and teaching in Wheatridge, Colo., she moved to Los Alamos where she taught English and Spanish. While teaching for the Los Alamos Public Schools, she met her husband, James V. Long. They were married in 1958. She was preceded in death by her father, H.L. McKay; her brother, Richard; her husband, James; and her daughter, Amy. She is survived by her mother, Corea McKay and sister, Patricia Nickell, both of Enid; her daughter, Sheila Brandt and her husband Michael, and her granddaughter, Madison Michelle Brandt of Los Alamos; her daughter, Mary Katherine Long and her husband Tom Lee of Norman, Okla., and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service for both Marilyn and her husband James will be held at a later date. LEONICIO LOPEZ, 79, of Peņasco, died Wednesday. He was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Peņasco to Nicanor and Sofia Lopez. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers: Ruperta Roybal, Eloisa Duran, Juan Jose, Juvenico and Candido Lopez. He is survived by his sister, Gertrude Lovato of Peņasco; brother, Nicanor Lopez of Albuquerque; and nieces and nephews. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at San Antonio de Padua Church, with burial to follow at Peņasco Cemetery. Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

PATTI DENISE LOYA (SUGAR), 49, of La Villita, died Monday. She was preceded in death by an infant son, John Britton and her father, George M. Overall. She is survived by her daughters, Zia Rose and Maya Denise Loya of the family home; longtime companion, Joe R. Hickman; mother, Emily R. Overall of Ojo Caliente; sister, Barbara R. EMMA K. SIPE, 94, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Wednesday at the Sandia Vista Care Center in Albuquerque following an extended illness. She was born in Mineral Hill on Oct. 21, 1908, to the late Henry Beisman and Fannie Deutschmann Beisman. She was united in marriage on July 2, 1931, in Las Vegas, N.M., to the late Robert O. Sipe. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine in Santa Fe and American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She also was the mother advisor of the Rainbow Girls, chairman of the Girls Staters in Las Vegas, N.M., and an active member of the local chapter of AARP, and she actively participated as a Girl Scout leader. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Fannie Beisman; husband, Robert O. Sipe in 1987; daughter, Kathrine Ann Lowry Brawley. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Tole of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Steven Lowry and wife Karen of Washington state, Pam Lowry of Albuquerque, Kim Tole of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Kerry Tole of Albuquerque; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nephew and friend, Gary Beisman of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 715 National Ave. in Las Vegas, N.M. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. She will lie in state from noon to 6 p.m. today and all day Sunday at Rogers Chapel, where family and friends may call. Flowers will be accepted, but donations may also be made to the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation for Cancer Research, P.O. Box 799044, Dallas, Texas, 75379-9044. Rogers Mortuary.

ALONZO O. VASQUEZ, 52, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Wednesday at the Northeastern Regional Hospital. He was born in Las Vegas, N.M., on Aug. 31, 1950, to the late Abel Vasquez and Antonia Lopez Vasquez. He served in the U.S. Army as private first class during the Vietnam era. He was a self-employed chili salesman and was known to everyone as the 'Chili Man.' In 1998, he was listed in the Who's Who in American College Students and was also on the Dean's List at New Mexico Highlands University. He was preceded in death by his father, Abel Vasquez in 1992; mother, Antonia Vasquez in 1991; sister, Molly Ulibarri-Chavez in 1988; brother, Jacobo 'Jake' Vasquez. He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Vasquez of Tipton, Mich., and Valerie Ann Vasquez of Alcalde; two grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Abel Vasquez of Wichita, Kan., Annette Ortega and husband Alex of Alamagordo, Jose Domingo Vasquez and wife Darlene of San Ysidro, Pete Martinez and wife Darleen of Tecolote, Bernice Rudolph and husband Jerry, and Mario H. Vasquez and wife Mabel all of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Rogers Mortuary.
