Sergio A. Acosta Jr., age 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Thursday in a local nursing home following a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Alma Annette Acosta; children, Carmen Acosta, Clovis Acosta, Sandra Smith, Bill Hofing, Louis Hofing, Susan Harrison, Annette Shaw; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clotilde Isaza, Zaira Riesen, Ellia Rojas, all of Panama. A memorial service is to be held at a later date. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE, are in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations to help with the final expenses.

Mr. Arthur Anderson Sr. died Thursday, February 25, 1999 in Albuquerque at the age of 46. Funeral Services for Mr. Anderson will be held on Thursday at the Metropolitan Temple where the service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at the Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400-3rd St, SW.

Consuelo I Benavides, born October 9, 1921 in Roswell, NM died on February 28, 1999 at home in Albuquerque. She is survived by her loving husband, Tony J. Benavides; their two sons; Frank Luna and wife, Selma and his children, Dannett, Chris, Frankie and Dionicia; Rudy Luna and wife, Lugie and their children, Anthony, Michelle, Robert and his son, Steven Luna; Marie and her husband, James Nuanes all of Albuquerque. Also survived by one sister, Bessy Paschal of Sacrament, CA and one brother, A.J. and his wife, Adel Luna of Sisco, TX. Consuelo lived her life with grace and was deeply loved by her family. She will be greatly missed. A Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 6, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1860 Griegos Rd, NW. Cremation arrangements are being provided by Sunrise Society 891-8200

David Howard Douglas, 87, a resident of Albuquerque died Monday, March 1, 1999. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Chapman of TX: grandson, Douglas Geoffrey Chapman of TX; granddaughter, Heather MacAllister of NY; and great-granddaughter, Madison Bella Dodds of NY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Douglas in 1988. He enjoyed the Indian culture and collecting Indian art. Mr. Douglas was a retired Captain in the U.S. Coast Guard. David was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the NRA. Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd, NE with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming blvd, NE, Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM "Whatever. "

Ronald E. Gilbert, 57, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, February 28, 1999. He is survived by his brother, Jim Gilbert and wife, Rose of Albuquerque; aunt, Isabell Castillo of Raton, NM; five nephews and nieces, Ronald A. Gilbert and wife, Kary, Dr. James A. Gilbert and wife, Elubia, Jeanne Schweiger and husband, Tim, Michelle Stanfill and husband, Mike, and Vincent J. Gilbert and wife, Gina; and 11 great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian and Cruzita Gilbert; sister, Viola Gilbert on December 29, 1998. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Mr. Gilbert was a member of the Jockey Guild. He was also a member of the Motion Picture Association and active in the Democratic Party. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Deacon Bob Lewis reciting. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee NE, with Father Michael Cimino, Celebrant. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. Jim Gilbert Jr., Vincent Gilbert, Ronald A. Gilbert, Mike Stanfill, Ralph Chavez and Carols Baca. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. till Rosary.

Morris R. Goebel, 76, a resident of Albuquerque died Saturday, January 2, 1999. Memorial services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Avenue, NE with Dr. Charles Crutchfield officiating. Interment of cremains will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors by the Auxiliary Honor Guard of New Mexico. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd, NE.

Doris N. Hubbard passed away February 27, 1999. She was 72 and followed her loving husband, Louis E. Hubbard to Gods arms. She leaves behind three sons, Dave E. Hubbard of Baltimore, MD, Louis E. Hubbard Jr. of Albuquerque, and Arthur Neal Hubbard of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Donna Lois Hight of Rio Rancho; sister, Elaine Campbell of New Braunfels, TX; brother-in-law, Jack Marker of Roswell, NM; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many loving daughters-in-law and sons-in-law. Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul, on Thursday, March 4, 1999 at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in her name to the American Diabetes Association or the American Kidney Association. Arrangements by Direct Services, 2919 4th St. NW, 343-8008.

Billy M. Irby Sr., 67, passed away February 28, 1999. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Jeanette; two daughters, Susan and Sharon; one son, Billy Irby Jr.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a resident of Albuquerque most of his life, also a Korean War Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. We will remember him as a stubborn man with a sense of humor. Memorial services will be held at Fitzgerald & Son, Thursday, March 4, 10:00 a.m. Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Harriet Italia, 89, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 50 years died Sunday, February 28, 1999. Memorial services will be held Friday, 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd, NE with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Consuela "Connie" Martinez will be celebrated Wednesday afternoon, 1:00 p.m., at St. Frances Cathedral in Santa Fe, NM, with final viewing at the church after 12:30 p.m. Father Salvador, Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with Deacon Charles Bates officiating the graveside blessing. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW, in charge of the arrangements.

Santiago (Santa) Jimmy Martinez, 60, a lifelong resident of Los Lunas, passed away at his home Monday afternoon after a short illness. Jimmy was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Peralta, NM. He was an all star athlete in High School graduating in 1957 and an avid sports fan. He retired from the Los Lunas Schools. Jimmy worked for the schools 23 years prior to his retirement in 1993. He is survived by his: wife of 33 years, Mary Lou Martinez; three Tchildren, Dolores, Jimmy Jr., and Brenda Lou; grandson, Noah James; mother, Josefita Martinez; brothers and sisters, Irene Smith, Billy and his wife, Esther, Nick and his wife, Betty, Geneva Barela and her husband, Ramon, all of Los Lunas, Dora Montoya and her husband, Jimmy of Albuquerque. Jimmy is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews and an abundance of friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-6:00p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Valencia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nick Martinez, Tommy Carabajal, Billy Martinez, Billy Ray Martinez, Arnulfo "Fito" Aguirre, Armando Reyes, Michael Romero, Frank Gurule. Jeanne Vical Miller
Born: March 12, 1908, Paris, France
Died: February 27 1999, Florence, Oregon
Jeanne Vical Miller, 47 year resident of Albuquerque, passed away in Florence, Oregon, February 26, 1999, at the age of 90. A French citizen until she married, she first came to the United States in 1914, where she and her mother lived while her father served as officer in the French Army during World War I. After the war she trained with her father, a noted fencing master, in both France and the United States. She won numerous fencing titles, including Women's Foil Championship in France, the West Coast Women's Fencing Championship in the United States; and she was a member of the French foil team in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. She and her father served as fencing instructors to the major Hollywood studios in the 30's, teaching such people as Douglas Fairbanks, Gary Cooper and Erroll Flynn. In 1933, she met her husband, Hugh M. Miller, a native of Eugene, Oregon, who was finishing his Ph.D. at Harvard. They married in 1934 in Santa Monica, California, and returned to the East Coast, where Jeanne taught languages at private prep schools. In 1947, Hugh was appointed Chair and Professor of Music at the University of New Mexico, and the family, including three daughters moved to Albuquerque. Jeanne taught languages and fencing at the Albuquerque Boys Academy, several public schools and as a private tutor. She was fluent in seven languages, and most recently was studying Chinese. Jeanne and Hugh celebrated their 50th anniversary at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. After Hugh's death in 1986, and daughter, Peggy's death in 1989, Jeanne stayed in Albuquerque through 1994. She lived in Southern California for two years and then moved to Florence, Oregon in 1996. Jeanne continued fencing until she was 70 and then took up swimming. She won numerous U.S. Masters Swim meets in her age group, and was All-American Swimmer and First Place winner in several events of the US Master's National Championship in 1990 and in 1994, where she was also the oldest female competitor at age 86. Jeanne actively traveled all her life, particularly to Europe and also to New Zealand, Russia, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Canada, as well as all over the United States. She served as linguistic consultant on two art tours for American docents, in France in 1995, and Italy in 1966. Jeanne Miller is survived by two living daughters, Marilyn Miller of Florence, Oregon and Louise Lewis of Granada Hills, California; and by grandson, Kevin Lewis, also of Granada Hills. Jeanne Miller was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Albuquerque, and most recently was a member of St. Mary Our Lady of the Dunes, in Florence, where memorial services were held Wednesday, March 3. Burns Riverside Chapel/Florence Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements (541-997-3416).

Laurence S. Mullin, 82, of Albuquerque, died Sunday, February 28, 1999. Born in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of the late Dr. Charles S. and Mary (McGoldrick) Mullin. He was graduated from Boston College in 1938. At Cambridge High and Latin and at Boston College, he played leading roles in many theatrical productions. He was a member of the Society of Jesus from 1938 to 1969. He was for many years a professor of Philosophy and Director of the Drama Department at Fairfield, University in Fairfield, CT. After he left the Jesuits, he became a writer for the Religious News Service. He lived in Standford, CT and Jamesburg, NJ before moving to Albuquerque in 1986. He was active at St. Charles Borromeo Church, and a popular newspaper reader for "Newsline for the Blind." His listeners especially enjoyed his readings of humorist Dave Barry's columns. He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Helena (Henneberry) Mullin of Albuquerque; his sister, Eugenia M. Dromey and her husband, John of Belmont, MA; his niece, the Hon. Susan Conway and her husband, Robert Levy and their daughter, Jane C. Levy, all of Albuquerque; his niece, Elizabeth Dromey and her husband, Rachid Belhocine of Watertown, MA; his nieces, Mary Ann Hunt of Arlington, VA and Elise Caitlin of W. Hollywood, CA; his nephews, Peter Conway and wife, Suzanne of Marblehead, MA, Michael Conway of Boca Raton, FL and John A. Dromey Jr. and wife, Patricia of Woburn, MA. Mr. Mullin was brother of the late Marie Conway and Capt. Charles Samuel Mullin Jr. USN. Funeral Mass from St. Charles Borromeo, University and Coal Avenue, Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours at Fitzgerald and Sons, 3113 Carlisle NE, Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Frances Lynell Myers, 85, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999. She was born November 1, 1913 in Celeste, TX to Martin and Ollie May Evans. Frances lived in Celeste for several years, until along with her parents and two sisters, she moved to Muleshoe, TX. She lived there until she married Audie Myers and they moved to their homestead in Fence Lake, NM. There were four children born to this union; Anita Gaye, Leta Faye, Jimmie Audine and Martin Lloyd. Frances is survived by her daughters, Leta Travis and husband, Elton of Los Lunas and Jimmie Vandever and husband, Keith of Umatilla, OR; son, Lloyd Myers and wife, Bonnie of Ramah, NM; 11 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; her husband, Audie; and an oldest daughter, Anita Gaye. Services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Boyd Morerod officiating. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Memorial Gardens in Belen. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Myrle Chapin Hamm/Porter, born September 11, 1900, died Friday, February 26, 1999, at the age of 98. She is survived by a niece, Sally Kleeman of Illinois; two cousins, Ruth Shelton of Albuquerque and Millie Chapin of Illinois; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several step grandchildren. Myrle was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie Hamm in 1972; and by her second husband, Wade Porter in 1994. She was a professional woman for many years, working for the State of Illinois. Myrle loved her church and enjoyed her many friends. She was especially proud of her family's heritage, tracing back to "Deacon" Samuel Chapin, who was born in England, migrated to America in 1635, and helped establish what is now known as Springfield, MA in 1636. Myrle loved sacred music and actively attended her church well into her 95th year. She was a member of Monte Vista Christian Church. Memorial services will be held Friday, 1:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, with the Rev. Glenn W. Ricketts and the Rev. Fred W. Dorisse officiating. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Myrle's memory to Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, 87106. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
