AURELIA L. BARELA, 96, of Albuquerque died Sunday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Candido Barela; and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by son, Candido Barela and wife Molly of Pecos; daughters, Margaret Perea of Albuquerque, Carmel Chambers of Santa Fe, Frances Grim of Durango, Colo. and Mela Chavez and husband Del of Albuquerque; sister, Rose Abeyta of San Jose, Calif.; sister-in-law, Casmira Martinez of Dixon; 16 grandchildren; and many other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, with burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. SILBERIA GUTIERREZ, 72, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Sunday at Northeastern Regional Hospital. She was a senior companion with the foster grandparents program. She worked at the Las Vegas Medical Center, formerly known as the State Hospital, for 26 years, the Southwest Senior Care Center for 13 years and West Las Vegas Schools as a crossing guard. She was a lifelong Catholic and member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Emigila Gonzales; husband, Florencio Gutierrez; son, Gerald Gutierrez; daughter, Joann Trujillo; grandson, Joshua Gutierrez; brothers, Amador Gonzales and Leroy Gonzales; and sisters, Jane Encinias, Grace Gonzales and Arabella Encinias. She is survived by her sons, Ray Gutierrez and wife Lorraine, George Gonzales, Richard Gutierrez and wife Margaret, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; daughter, Jessie Gutierrez and fiancée Leroy Romero of Las Vegas, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Roberto Castellano and David Gonzales, both of Las Vegas, N.M., Placido Gonzales of Tecolote; and many other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at the same church with burial to follow at the Tecolote Cemetery. VIRGIL D. GUTIERREZ, 85, of Gardiner died Sunday. He attended schools and graduated from high school in Raton. He graduated from junior college in Portales and worked his way through school by helping build dormitories. After graduation, he worked in Tucumcari, Santa Rosa and Raton teaching furniture making. He was inducted into the armed forces in 1942 and served for three and a half years in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. Afterward, he attended college at Highlands University, where he obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics, school administration and guidance counseling. He began teaching in Taos in 1949. He taught math for 34 years at Taos High School and also served as a guidance counselor and high school principal. He was a council member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Ercilia Gutierrez; and niece, Olivia Rodriguez. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Gutierrez; daughter, Kathleen; sons, Marcus and Louis; sister, Esther Kelly; brothers, Garfield and Hubert Gutierrez; seven grandchildren; and many other relatives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Mountain Home Health Hospice, P.O Box 2566 Taos, N.M., or to the charity of your choice. ANTONIO A. MADRID, 87, of Medanales died Tuesday after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emilio Antonio Gonzales; second husband, Ben Madrid; parents, Severo and Francisquita Archuleta; brothers, Ramon, Tobias, Jose I, Severito, Frank and Pedro Archuleta; and sisters, Elisa Garcia and Cleo Wueschinski. She is survived by her children, Jose Toby Gonzales and wife Lizzie of Albuquerque, Emilio Gonzales of Española, Donald Archuleta and wife Helen of Rio Chama, Lee Madrid of Española, and Bengie Madrid of Medanales; 14 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. MARGARITA B. MARTINEZ died Monday. She was a member of La Union Protectiva Femenina. She was preceded in death by her father, Rafael Ortiz and mother, Ruby Ortiz. She is survived by her husband, Melecio Martinez; children, Chris Martinez, Corina and husband Les Honzel, Rita and husband Arnold Trujillo, Leroy and friend Joan Gallegos, Bernice Martinez and friend Lupe Atilano; eight grandchildren; and many other relatives. ANTHONY J. SANCHEZ, 49, MARGARET A. SANCHEZ, 50 AND ANDREW J. SANCHEZ, 20, of Pojoaque died Monday of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Anthony was employed by Los Alamos National Laboratory as a chemical technician; Margaret was also worked there as a nuclear material custodial. Their son, Andrew, was employed with the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department. They were all members of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque. Anthony was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Lena Garcia and Louisita Sanchez; and brother, Emilio Sanchez; brother-in-law, Dario Garcia; sister-in-law, Miquelita Sanchez. Margaret was preceded in death by her grandmother, Eva Valdez. They are survived by a son and brother, Kevin Sanchez and girlfriend Amie Martinez of Pojoaque; Anthony's parents, Antonio and Elsie Sanchez of Velarde; his brothers and sisters, Ray Sanchez and wife Mary of California, Elmer Sanchez of Arroyo Seco, George Sanchez and wife Molly, Maxine Bustos and husband Tim, all of Española and Rubina Loibl and husband Chris of Velarde; Margaret's parents, Luben and Maria Espinoza of Pojoaque; her brothers and sisters, Alfredo Espinoza and wife Viola of Taos, Dori Lujan and husband Richard of Santa Fe, Chris Espinoza and wife Margie of Nambé, Lonnie Espinoza and girlfriend Elena and Louella Gallegos and boyfriend Orlando Cordova, all of Pojoaque; and many other relatives and friends as well as their beloved pets, Pudgie, Brandy and Pablo. Visitation begins 5 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with a 7 p.m. rosary. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at the same church. DOROTHY SHUGZDA, 80, of Santa Fe died Monday after a long illness. She was a registered nurse and worked in Albuquerque at Lovelace Medical Center and Horizon Health Care. She was preceded in death by her son, Edward Francis. She is survived by her daughter, Gayle McGuiness and husband Thomas of Santa Fe; son, Edward P. Shugzda and wife Maria of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and brothers, Thomas Muchisky and wife Michi of St. Louis, Mo., and Dennis Muchisky. ELEANOR ROBINSON BROOKS BROH-KAHN, 79, of Santa Fe died Wednesday.
Her childhood was spent in Wellesley, Mass., and Oxford, Ohio. She received her bachelor's degree from Miami University in Oxford and took graduate work in journalism at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y. She held various positions in the field of public relations and advertising in Syracuse and later in New York City. She moved to Santa Fe and was employed for a time at the Institute of American Indian Arts. For nearly a quarter of a century, until her retirement, she served as administrative secretary of the state Arts Division. She received the designation of "Living Treasure of Santa Fe," a recognition which she always regarded fondly. She resided at El Castillo Retirement Residences. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin M. Brooks and Beatrice Allard Brooks. She is survived by her brother, Frank Brooks and wife Margaret of Carrollton, Texas; one nephew; one niece; and many other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Fe with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 984-8600.

MICHAEL THOMAS CARROLL , 49, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Saturday. He graduated with a doctorate in English from Temple University. He was a professor of English at New Mexico Highlands University, where he studied and taught classes in popular culture. He was preceded in death by his father, James D. Carroll. He is survived by his mother, Catherine Krimmel of Abington, Pa.; brothers, William C. Carroll and wife Beth of Lansdale, Pa., and Kevin Carroll and wife Dolores of Abington, Pa.; sister, Mary Ellen Ellison and husband Doug of Girardville, Pa; his intended fiancée, Roberto Lisenbee and daughter Lisa Lisenbee-Maestas, both of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends. GUSTAVO H. COBLENTZ, 71, of Santa Fe died Wednesday. He was born in Mexico City and immigrated to California, where he and his wife, Libertad, raised a family of six children. He was employed for many years as a social worker for the County of Los Angeles, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul C. Coblentz; mother, Carmen Huerta de Coblentz; brothers, Emilio Coblentz, Paul Coblentz, Silvano Coblentz, and Rene Coblentz, and granddaughter, Jessica Coblentz. He is survived by his wife, Libertad Coblentz; daughters, Libertad Nendel-Black and husband Peter, and Liliana Perez and husband Carlos; sons, Gustavo Coblentz and wife Tana, Pablo Coblentz and wife Ranita, Miguel Coblentz and wife Renee, Jorge Coblentz and wife Roxanne; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Yolanda Taboada, Mina Coblentz, Ramon Coblentz, Jorge Coblentz and Jack Coblentz; and many other relatives. JERRY EUGENE DAVEY, 71, died Monday at St. Vincent Hospital after a long illness. He served in the U.S. Marines. He was a police officer for the city of Santa Fe, a director of urban renewal and community development, a director of public housing and a consultant for several counties for urban development, where he was well known throughout the state of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle; father, A.J.; and brothers, Bob, Art and Allen Davey, all of Oregon. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Garcia Davey, formerly of Pojoaque; daughter, Marianita Davey of Santa Fe; sons, Frank Garcia, David Garcia and wife Becky of Pojoaque; brother, Ron and wife Bobbie of Washington; sister, Judy and husband Chuck Kline of Oregon; five grandchildren; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Berardinelli Family Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
