Michael Theodore Sena, 37 of Fort Sumner went to be with his Lord Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte, California. Michael was born September 17, 1965 to the home of Mariano and Romana (Romero) Sena. He attended school at Fort Sumner where he participated in all sports and was the 1983 Homecoming Basketball King. Following graduation he attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years and then transferred to Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. Michael later went on to attend Fountain Gate Bible College in Plano, Texas for two years. He made his home in Los Alamos, NM where he taught at a Christian School and a local Y.M.C.A. where he worked with kids who had dropped out of school and he encouraged them to press on to greater things. He then moved back to Fort Sumner in 1992 and began working at the local feed store. He was named Program Coordinator for the Peers In Touch The Pit Youth Center in 1995. He took a dream and made it into a reality. There Michael was able to weight train others, provide a positive and safe environment for people to enjoy and to share all of his gifts with the community. In this same year he was named Outstanding Young Person of Year by the De Baca County Chamber of Commerce. In 1996 he began working at the Pecos Valley Care Center as the Activities Director. He loved the nursing home residents and his co-workers. He could be found leading them in bible studies or taking the residents on a van ride. Michael was a member of the Church On The Hill in Fort Sumner, where he served and Youth Pastor since 1994 and was later ordained a minister in October 2002. He loved to read, listen to music, and raising his pets which included two cats, two goats, and many birds and fish. He likewise enjoyed all sporting events and was an avid supporter of the Fox/Vixen teams. He was named as 12th Man on the Foxes Football team. Above all Michael loved the Lord. He had a heart for youth, his family was his best friend. Michael loved everyone, and never had an enemy. His parents described him as being an awesome son whose biggest hobby was passionately seeking the God. Michael was preceded in death by two sisters an infant Dorothy Sena in 1947; Cecilia Sena in 1976; and a brother. Tim Sena in 1991. Survivors include his parents Mariano and Romana Sena of Fort Sumner, NM; three brothers Richard Sena and wife Gloria; Sam Sena; and Gerald Sena and wife Sarah all of Fort Sumner; two sisters Betty Huerta of Clovis, NM and Dorothy Pacheco and husband Paul of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are eleven nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and many good friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Chavez Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 from the Fort Sumner High School Gymnasium with Pastor Anna Teeter and Buddy Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Sena, Paul Pacheco, George Romero, Ronald Sena, Pete Segura, and Christopher Sena. Larry Wayne Smith, found peace March 6, 2003. He was born October 30, 1956 to George W. and Iva T. Smith. He was raised in the North Valley of Albuquerque and graduated from Valley High School in 1974. He was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his sister Wynette and husband Michael Emslie, sister Tereah Smith, brother Wynn and wife Joy Smith, sister Greta and husband Tod Aeby, niece Briana and nephew Kagen. Beatrice Elizabeth Struck, 77, died Thursday, March 6, 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Judi Gifford; and her granddaughter, Shannon Gifford. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Struck in 1981; and her mother Gladys Shaw in 1992. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held in Milwaukee, WI at a later date with interment at the Wood National Cemetery next to her beloved husband.

Jesse B. Jesse B. Timms, 79, of Lake Ft. Sumner passed away on March 6, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque. Jesse was born on July 27, 1923, in Winters, Texas, to James Leroy and Susan Lois (Condra) Timms. Jesse moved to the Lake Ft. Sumner area 12 years ago, but had lived in Moriarty for 26 years prior. He was a finish blademan in road construction before his retirement. At one time he owned and operated Timms Construction. Jesse was elected twice as a County Commissioner in Torrance County, serving between 1978 and 1981. He was elected Citizen of the Year in 1986. Jesse was a Charter member of the VFW Post # 3370 in Moriarty and a Lifetime member of the American Legion Post also in Moriarty. He was also a member of the Moriarty Lions Club. Jesse is survived by his wife, Lillian Timms of Lake Ft. Sumner, a son, Jesse Wayne Timms of Moriarty Also survived by two Daughters, Sherry Dennison of Moriarty and Nita Sanchez of Los Lunas. Also leaves behind four brothers, Alvin Timms, Travis Timms, Ray Timms and Billy Timms all of Lubbock, Texas. Also surviving him are eight sisters, Nita Condra of Lubbock, Frances Long of Oklahoma, Cletta Abney of Lubbock, Dolly Bullard of Lubbock, Pearl Shelton of Lubbock, Nancy Coppedge of Lubbock and Rita Thompson of Amarillo. Jesse also leaves 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Visitation for Jesse will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday March 9, 2003, at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty. Mr. Donald F. Vigil, 70, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on March 5, 2003. Mr. Vigil is survived by four daughters, Mary Margaret Cordova, Mary Helen Herrera, Donna Frances Martinez and JoAnn Aguilar and husband, Gerard; one brother, Norman Vigil and wife, Mary; one sister, Lola Vigil; five grandchildren, Dennis, Sara, Christopher, Gerard Jr. and Aubrey; one great-grandson, Noah Cordova. AGAPITA LUCERO BUSTAMANTE Y QUINTANA, 96, of Santa Fe, died Friday. She was born in Pecos on March 12, 1906, to Juan Lucero and Dolores Roybal de Lucero. She was born six years before New Mexico achieved statehood. She was baptized on the same day as the consecration of St. Anthony's Church in Pecos. She attended school in Spanish in the small local grade school. When the nuns came to Pecos, she attended the new school and was one of three students who comprised the first graduating class of Pecos High School. She attended The Normal School in Las Vegas (now Highlands University) and became a teacher. She taught at Pecos for 11 years. After her first husband's death in 1939, she moved to Santa Fe with her four children and went to work at the state Bureau of Revenue, retiring in the 1960s. After retirement she went to work at Big Jo's Lumber Co. She married Romulo Quintana in 1946. They were founding members of Sociedad Colonial Espaņola de Santa Fe, an organization that still performs the traditional dances of Hispanic New Mexico. She was a member of La Unica Protectiva Feminina, Confriada de la Conquistadora, The Catholic Daughters and the Third Order of St. Francis. She was a member of Santa Maria de la Paz and St. Anthony's of Pecos parishes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Aniceto Bustamante Jr. in 1939; her second husband, Romulo Quintana in 1961; brothers, Arturo, Evaristo and Eloy Lucero; her sister, Ana Marie Valencia; an infant daughter, Eugenia; sons, Adrainito and Aniceto Benny Bustamante, and Jimmy, Estanislado 'Tiny' Tomas and Ruben Quintana; and son-in-law, David Koppa. She is survived by her son, Adrian Herminio Bustamante and wife Rebecca; daughters, Letitia Koppa, RoseMarie and husband Ray Velarde; daughters-in-law, Gloria Quintana and Consuelo Quintana; 37 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. SANTIAGO 'JIMMY' CARDENAS, 78, of Taos, died Wednesday. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Collins. He is survived by his children, Moises Santiago Cardenas of Espaņola, Felix Fernando Cardenas (Carlene) of Wisconsin, Ascension Valerio (Michael) of Ranchos de Taos, Miguel Cardenas of Taos, Rosie Rivera (Richard), Pressy Cardenas all of Espaņola, and Jane Anderson (Brian) of Carson; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. LILLIAN EDITH RILEY DOHERTY, 89, of Los Alamos, died Wednesday of pneumonia and congestive heart failure after a good life of nearly 90 years. Born on May 8, 1913, she spent her first 49 years in Pittsburgh, enjoying city life. After her husband Joseph accepted a job in Los Alamos in 1962, they traveled the state of New Mexico and declared that it was really 'something to write home about.' Joseph died in 1987, not long after their 50th wedding anniversary. She is survived by daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Michael Hinnebusch, with whom she lived since her husband's death; and her son, Philip and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth of Hartford, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the same church. ALFONSO GILBERT MARTINEZ, 73, of Wagon Mound, died Feb. 25, 2003, at the Vida Encantada Rehabilitation & Nursing Center following an extended illness. He was born in Colmor on Feb. 2, 1930, to the late Bonifacio and Merenciana Lucero Martinez. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Felimon, Nabor, Esequiel, Jose Matias and Arthur Martinez; and his sisters, Celia Martinez, Emilia Thompson and Antonina Martinez. He is survived by one sister, Porfiria Ortiz of Denver; sister-in-law, Lydia Martinez of Santa Rosa; brother-in-law, Gene Thompson of Tome; and many other relatives. DOROTHY SCHREIBER, 84, died Thursday. She was born Dec. 11, 1918, in Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abner Schrieber. She is survived by two daughters, Abigail and husband Thomas Gould of Rio Rancho and Deborah and husband Tommy Herrera of El Rancho; very special granddaughter, Faith and husband Howard Benson of Los Alamos, who were her loving caretakers the last few years of her life; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Frances Pierce of Silver City; and many other relatives and friends. Mabel Virginia Cozzens, 83, a resident of New Mexico for 54 years, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Orr of Gallup; step-son, Tom Cozzens and wife, Sharon of El Paso, TX; three grandsons, Gary Orr and wife, Mary, Teddy Orr and wife, JohnnieSue and Tommy Orr and wife, Marty, all of Gallup; nine great-grandchildren, Robin and husband, Chris, Clint and wife, Shirley, Sabor, David, Joe, B.J., and Alyssa; and two great-great-grandsons, Jacob and Wyatt. Mrs. Cozzens owned Ski-High Package Store for many years. She was a member of Four Hills Country Club. Mrs. Cozzens was also a member of Methodist Episcopal Church of Portsmouth, VA. She luncheoned daily at Volcano Cliffs Senior Center at "Mabel's Table" with her friends. Mrs. Cozzens was a true Southern Lady to the end who touched many lives and will be deeply missed. Harriet K. Harris, 79, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at her home in Albuquerque. She was the loving wife of Byron H. Harris Sr.; and the mother of Byron H. Harris Jr. and wife, Linda of Dallas, TX and Christopher J. Harris and wife, Nancy of Gig Harbor, WA. She also leaves a sister, Virginia Klein of Albuquerque. She and her husband have been residents of Albuquerque since 1962. She was active with All Faiths Receiving Home, a volunteer at the then Bataan Memorial Hospital, and subsequently served as President of the Auxiliary of the New Mexico Hospital Assoc., in which position she traveled statewide in the organization of numerous hospital auxiliaries. She was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and an avid gardener. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution NE, Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, March 13, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Gerald White officiating. Edna V. Lea, 92, a resident of San Antonio, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 10, 1999. Mrs. Lea is survived by her daughters, Carol Cross and husband, Marshall of Houston, TX, Ruth Moore and husband, Edward of San Antonio, TX, Joyce Hail and husband, Robert of Lubbock, TX and Janelle Basham and husband, Clarence of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie G. Lea in 1971. Mrs. Lea and her husband moved to Albuquerque in 1952. She taught at Parkview Baptist Elementary School for several years. She was a member of Del Norte Baptist Church and also of the Bernalillo County Extension Club. Mrs. Lea moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1996. Mrs. Ramona M. Perry, 65, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on March 11, 1999. Mrs. Perry is survived by two daughters, Lucille Perry and Brenda Perry; two sons, Andy Perry and wife, Cody and Anthony Perry and wife, Stella; four sisters, Loretta Cordova and husband, Raymond, Sadie Duarte, Dorothy Valdez and Maria Bautista; one brother, Lawrence Valdez; six grandchildren, Sam and wife, Crystal, Gabriel, Shavanna, Bobby, Brandon and Matt; two great-grandchildren, Isiah and Jessica; a special cousin, Lupe Lopez and husband, Manuel; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Perry was a member of the Catholic church. A visitation will be Sunday afternoon in the Holy Ghost Church, 833 Arizona SE from 2:30 until 3:00 with a rosary to be recited at 3:00. Florine Eleanor Ensminger Smith, November 30, 1923-March 11, 1999. Florine Eleanor Ensminger Smith was the second daughter born of Frederick Ledford Ensminger and Florence Rosemary Noble Ensminger on November 30, 1923. She was born at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Short, with Mrs. Anna Short officiating as nurse and midwife to Dr. Wakefield of Heyworth, IL. Eleanor loved to sing and dance as a child and was given lessons in tap, acrobat, and ballet dancing. In the first grade, she sang a solo at her class recital called, "My Dolly is a Lady ", while cradling her doll, Daisy. She took piano lesson, and played trumpet in her early years. She was baptized at the age of twelve at Heyworth Christian Church, and was one of the star pupils in Summer Bible School, where she recited from memory The Beatitudes, and other quotes from the Bible. She always took an active part in church and school activities and was a good student. During her sophomore year, the high school Shop Class traded semesters with the Home Economics Class, and Eleanor mastered woodworking skills, successfully completing a what-not shelf. She was a good alto singer and participated in all the choirs and singing groups available to her. She was a graduate of Heyworth Grade School, Heyworth High School, and Illinois Commercial College at Champaign-Urbana, Ill. On her way to California with her sister Jule in 1948, they stopped in Albuquerque, NM, where she made her home. She was employed by Contractors Equipment Co., and then was hired by Sandia Corporation, from which she retired in 1982. She attended Technical Vocational Institute in Albuquerque, and was also an instructor of an exercise class. Her varied interests included a great love of animals. She owned a Bobcat, which she donated to the Albuquerque Rio Grande Zoo; and she successfully raised Chow dogs. She loved modeling, water skiing, was an enthusiastic bicycle rider, a wine maker, and avid gardener. She worked tirelessly in her green house, and loved to dance to the music of the Big Bands of the '30's and '40's, as well as Chicago, and Santana. After her retirement from Sandia Corp., she attended an art institute in Albuquerque, and began painting successfully in oils which she continued to the present. In her struggle with cancer, she became very strong and proud to contribute to the fight for cancer survival. From her marriage to Norman L. Smith, came five children, Noel Smith, Heidi Smith Wilmott, Lloyd Smith (dec), Noble Smith, and Tami Smith Stout. She is survived by her children; seven grandchildren, Bobbi, Noel Jr., Christina, Ryan, Dylan, Sierra, and Scheurer; and four siblings, Louise Greenfield, of Maryland, Noble Ensminger of Florida, Jule Gargoura of New Mexico, and Fern Noth of Illinois. Eleanor was a loving mother and a giving generous person with a good sense of humor and a strong spirit. She made a vivid impact on the lives of those she touched. We will miss her.
