Peggy McCormick Akin Wilkison was born October 22, 1939, in Hobbs, New Mexico, the 3rd child and 2nd daughter of Don McCormick and Dorothy Walker McCormick. Peggy died in her home on Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000, after a brave and dignified battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband, David Wilkison; and his mother, Mary Wilkison of the family home; and sons, Don (D.J.) Akin of Scottsdale, AZ and Scott Akin of Albuquerque, all of whom she was very proud. She is also survived by her former husband, Jackson G. Akin; her children by marriage, Emily Akin Sattler of Houston, TX, Stephan Akin of Dallas, TX, Laurie Wilkison of Arlington, VA and Jennie Wilkison of Denver, CO; her brother, Michael McCormick and wife, Wanda of McAllen, TX; her sisters, Mary Skavaril and husband, Russ of Columbus, OH, Maureen Ashley and husband, Everett of Tulsa, OK, Monica O'Reilly and husband, Mel and Margo McCormick and husband, Ranne Miller, all of Albuquerque; and step-mother, Dorothy Cox McCormick, also of Albuquerque. Peggy graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1957. She attended Creighton University, the University of New Mexico, and graduated from Gonzaga University. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle NE, Albuquerque, at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2000. Peggy was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She was a generous and wonderful companion on the road of life to all who were privileged to know her. She will be sorely missed. Contributions in her memory may be made to the All Faiths Receiving Home.

Sister Mary Amidea Wrzesinksi, 67, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2000 in the Felician Sister's Convent. Sister Amidea served the Lord and His people as a woman religious for 48 years. Of these, she spent 44 years teaching elementary school students in Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas. For 13 of those years she was both principal and teacher. During the final year of her life, Sister Amidea tutored elementary students at St. Felix Pantry in Rio Rancho. She is fondly remembered by those she taught and worked with as an excellent and dedicated educator. She was generous with her time, possessed a great sense of humor, and faced difficulties with determination and patience. Sister Amidea was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas Wrzesinski and Josephine Syzdek Wrzesinski; a sister, Sister Mary Josetta Wrzesinski, also a Felician Sister; and two brothers, Albert and Simon Wrzesinski. She is survived by two sisters, Julia Lehoski of Pearland, Texas and Mary Johnston of Bedford, Texas; four brothers, Stash Wrezesinski of Ft. Worth, Texas, Ted Wrzesinski of Berwyn, Illinois, Roman Wrzesinski of Ft. Worth, Texas and Johnny Wrzesinski of Waxahachie, Texas. A Vesper Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2000 in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd at Meadowlark Ln, Rio Rancho. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho on Friday, April 28, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Cecil Kleber, OFM as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary.

JOE JIMMY ARCHULETA, 60, of Coyote died Monday following a short illness. He is survived by his mother, Rose Manning of Santa Fe; brothers Fred Archuleta of Santa Fe and Charles Martin of California; a sister, Barbara Banks of Santa Fe; and numerous other relatives. He was cremated. De Vargas Funeral Home, Espaņola.

TANYA DAWN CARMEN ESQUIBEL, 20, of Roy died Friday. She was born March 8, 1980, in Guymon, Okla. She was attending Eastern New Mexico University. She also was a lifelong Catholic and a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Roy. She was an altar server in church. She is survived by her parents, Antonio and Felicia Esquibel of Roy; a sister, Victoria Esquibel of Roy; maternal grandparents Eddie and Bertha Armijo of Springer; maternal grandfather Paul Gallegos of Tucumcari; paternal grandparents Lencho and Gloria Esquibel of Roy; and numerous other relatives and many friends. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at the Roy High School Gym. Burial will follow at the Roy Cemetery. Rogers Mortuary, Las Vegas.

MATILDA GARCIA, 90, of El Prado died Saturday. She is survived by her children, Leo Garcia and wife Linda of Pueblo, Colo., Viola Gonzalez and husband Max of Salt Lake City, and Sam F. Garcia and wife Mary Jo of El Prado; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters Cordelia Quintana of Denver, Della Santistevan of Taos, Minnie Rivera of Las Vegas, Nev.; and other relatives and friends. Rosaries were held on Monday at Rivera Chapel and Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at Dolores Cemetery. Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

MARCELINA PARRAZ, 80, of El Prado died Monday. She retired from the Taos Municipal Schools after 37 years with the hot lunch programs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vicente Parraz; a son, Francisco 'Pancho' Parraz; parents Eloy Chavez and Soledad Mondragon; and a brother, Ed Mondragon. She is survived by her children, Evelyn Archuleta of El Prado, Roberto Parraz and wife Kay of Moriarty, Concha Arguello and husband Frank of Ranchos de Taos, Raymond Parraz and wife Irene, Tommy Parraz and wife Frances all of Taos, Lola Parraz and Anna Romero and husband J.D. all of El Prado; and a daughter-in-law Becky Parraz of Taos. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home, Taos.

THE REV. A.W. 'DOLPH' PRINGLE, 81, of the Espaņola Valley died Monday. He was born July 10, 1918, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and raised in Johnstown, Pa. He was a graduate of the Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, Oberlin Theological Seminary and Arizona State University. He was ordained in the United Brethren Church in 1943. He came to Vallecitos in 1947 for the Evangelical United Brethren Mission. In 1948 he and his family moved to McCurdy School in Santa Cruz. He continued to be a pastor, teacher, coach and principal until his retirement. He was also chaplain for the Espaņola Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Gweneth; sons Bill Pringle of Phoenix and Joe Pringle of Espaņola; a daughter, Olga Scott, of Houston; one granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter. A service will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Santa Cruz. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at the McCurdy Memorial Sports Center in Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the McCurdy School through the Pringle Memorial Fund. Block-Salazar Mortuary.

Mary Wauneita of Bosque Farms, surrounded by family and friends, returned home to the Lord Tuesday, April 24, 2001. Family includes four sons and their spouses, James L. Booth and wife, Donna, Roni G. Booth and Barbara Roensch, David R. Booth and Helen Burwell, Kenneth D. Booth and Karen Mills; eight grandchildren, Richard S. Booth, Michael A. Booth, Michelle L. Duncan, Danielle L. Rowland, Amie D. Booth, Kimberle A. Booth, Lisa R. Booth and Matthew D. Booth; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, James D Taylor and wife, Thelma, Donald W. Taylor and wife, Kay: sisters, Laveta Phillips and husband, Elmer, Vaneta Brach and husband, Earl, and Darlene Cochran and husband Gerald. A sister, Charlene Young and husband, Jim Mann Booth preceded her in death. Wauneita, born June 22, 1920 in Burneyville, OK, raised in Olton, TX, married Jim Booth April 5, 1941. They raised their children in Dolores, CO until moving the family to Albuquerque in 1958, then relocating to Bosque Farms in 1969. She used her artistic talents as a confectioner, an accordion player and a painter to brighten the lives of those who knew her. She was a strong spirited woman, whose love of family, gardening and painting was surpassed only by her love of the Lord. Katherine Carroll, 81, a resident of Albuquerque for 42 years, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Margie K. Carroll of Canton, GA and Janey Carroll of Albuquerque; cousin, William Moyers and wife, Neva of Albuquerque. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John 'Jake' Carroll on January 28, 2001; daughter, Barbara Ann Carroll; parents, George and Kate Betts and sisters, Josephine Bradley, Maude Hill and Anne Bell. She attended Georgia State College for Women. She was an active member of Sombre del Monte Christian Church. Katherine loved fishing, playing bridge and was truly a 'Southern Lady'. She cherished her family and many friends whom she loved and enjoyed throughout her life. Albert C. "Al" Castelbaum, age 93, passed away April 24, 2001 at St. Luke's Health System in Sioux City, Iowa. He was born February 26, 1908 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Jacob and Lena (Casler) Castelbaum. He was a former resident of Albuquerque for 43 years. He is survived by his son, Jay Castelbaum; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Castebaum and daughters, Mary, Diane, and Leanora. He was a life member of American Bowling Congress, a life member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of New Mexico Bowling Hall of Fame. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a devoted family man, a loving father and loyal friend. Visitation will be Thursday, April 26, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Storng-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal SE. Graveside Services will be held Friday, April 27, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. in the B'Nai Israel Cemetery in Fairview Park, 700 Yale SE. Rabbi Isaac Celnik will officiate.

Mr. Henry Chavez died Wednesday in Albuquerque at the age of 41. Mr. Chavez is survived by his mother, Emilia Chavez Garcia; wife, Marie A. Chavez; sons, Jerry and Aaron; daughters, Donella and Angel; brothers, Bobbie, Fidel, Lupe and Irene; sisters, Mary and husband, Jesus, Jeanette and husband, Joe, June and Victor, Julia and husband, Salvador, Martha and Alvaro, Geneva and husband, Arturo; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Chavez will be held on Friday at the Holy Family Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Chavez, Joseph Gurule, Lupe Chavez Sr., Ondfri Garcia, Lupe Chavez Jr., and Anthony Chambers. Honorary pallbearer will be Ricky Bush. A Rosary for Mr. Chavez will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.

After a good day spent with friends and family, Edmond Keith Coulter passed away on Sunday April 22, 2001. Ed Coulter was born in Altus, Oklahoma on July 22, 1915. He moved with his parents to West Texas in the 1920's and lived in Big Spring, Texas until he moved to New Mexico in 1934. Ed was employed by Skousen Brothers Highway Contractors and hauled heavy equipment all over the state building highways. When World War II came on the horizon, the company started building runways in order to train U.S. pilots. Ed was on the project to build Kirtland Air Force Base's first runways. He also served in the U.S. Corps of the Army Engineers for a short time during WWII. Ed was then employed by Albuquerque Lumber Co. hauling building materials to Los Alamos at the start of the Atomic City; later he was employed by Zia Co. in Los Alamos, and participated in atomic tests in Frenchman's Flats and Indian Springs, NV in 1951. When ACF Industries opened in Albuquerque, Ed was sent to the Pacific to participate in "Operation Castle" for more atomic testing in 1954. He was retained by General Electric when ACF phased out in 1968 and retired from General Electric in 1978. Ed was a Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and golfing. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he taught his children and grandchildren to water ski. The family had recently gathered for an anniversary reunion celebration in honor of Ed and his wife Juanita's 60th wedding anniversary on March first. Ed is survived by his adored wife, Juanita Ruyle Coulter; daughters, Mary Coulter O'Bryant Kennedy and husband, Brent of Rio Rancho, Sherril Coulter Lucas and husband, Lynn of Albuquerque; son, Edmond Keith Coulter Jr. and wife, Ginny also of Albuquerque. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Kelly O'Bryant, Sherilyn Lucas, and Candace Coulter; three grandsons, Kerry O'Bryant, K.C. Lucas and Christopher Coulter; sister, Darlene Coulter Bailey and husband, Joe of Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Ed was a long-time member of Ridgecrest Christian Church and coached the church softball team for several seasons. Memorial Services will be held at Ridgecrest Christian Church, 5300 Eastern Ave SE (NW of San Mateo & Gibson) on Saturday April 28th at 10:00 a.m. Ministers Joe Bailey and Kerry O'Bryant will officiate. Nancy Hawkins Dumas, 81, went to be with her 'sweet Jesus' on Tuesday, April 23, 2001. Nancy was born on February 20, 1920 in Magnolia, Texas. She is survived by her daughters, Dee Ann Cline and husband, Victor and Benda Vick and husband, Gary all of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Kevin Brook Cline and wife, Bobbi, Tracy Ann Love-Sanchez and husband, Dan, Jason Benbrook Vick, Ryan Turner Vick and wife, Audra and Chelsea Noelle Vick; two great-grandchildren, Dillon Brook Cline and Dalton Charles Cline; sister, Lois Graham and husband, Joe and brother-in-law, Jack Dumas and wife, Mable. Services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2001, 11:00a.m. at Church on the Rock, 5300 2nd Street NW. Clarissa Matteson Parsons Fuller,97, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 after a long period of failing health. Clarissa was born into a distinguished family in Chicago, IL, in July 1903. Her mother, Clara Matteson Doolittle, was a graduate of Smith college, Northhampton, MA. Her father, Harry Robert Parsons, was an attorney and a noted bass singer in Chicago area oratorios as well as an outstanding athlete. The family, including Clarissa and her brothers, William Sterling Parsons and Critchell Parsons, moved to Fort Sumner, NM in the early 1900s. Her half-brother, Harry Robert Parsons, continues to live there. William Sterling Parsons graduated from Annapolis and became a physicist and Rear Admiral. He was closely involved with the beginnings of radar and the proximity fuse, and was one of the pioneers of the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos. He was the 'weaponeer" on the Enola Gay, which dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, effectively ending World War II in the Pacific. Critchell Parsons graduated from UNM, where he won the Sigma Chi Balfour Award and went on to Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Clarissa Fuller received three academic degrees from UNM where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, Mortar Board and Phi Kappa Phi, and was one of the first women to earn her doctorate. She was married to Rice Bagby "Doc" Fuller, and is survived by two children, Dr. F.W. Fuller of Short Hills, NJ, and Hester Fuller Eastham, of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren survive, William, Clarissa, Miranda, Sebastian, and Nicholas Eastham, and Julie Fallon, Hester Fuller and Rice Bagby Fuller; as well as five great-grandchildren. Other survivors are her half-brother, and three nieces, Peggy Bowdich, Clare Parsons and Sandra Parsons. A Memorial Eucharist will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. John, Saturday, April 28, 2001 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to UNM foundation Inc. in memory of Clarissa Fuller, 700 Lomas blvd. Oliver Haggins, 74, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1988, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2001. Oliver was born December 19, 1926 the son of Fewell and Mary Ann McFadden Hagars in York, South Carolina. Oliver was a truck driver for the Rutgers Express freight company before retiring. He served in the US Army during WW II. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Haggins in February 2000. He is survived by one son, Edward Haggins and wife, Kristy of Rio Rancho: one brother, Lewis Haggins of Lawrenceville, NJ: seven grandchildren, Celyne Peeples, Dionne Alford and husband, Jason, Joanne Gamble, Danielle Gamble, Douglass Pearson, Rochelle Pearson, and Christopher Cartwright: and one cousin, William Hagens of Upper State, NJ. The Visitation for Oliver will be on Saturday, April 28, 2001 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 a.m. with the Service at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Missionary Baptist Church, 224-C North Unser Blvd. NE, Rio Rancho, NM. Mela Lueras, 70, passed away April 24, 2001 at home surrounded by her loved ones. As a native New Mexican she lived in Gallup and Albuquerque the past twenty years. She enjoyed bingo and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilario and Delfina Salinas; sisters, Rufina Apodaca and Zorida Angel; brothers, Juan Salinas and Raphel Salinas, and is survived by her husband, Raymond; children, Frankie Baca and wife, Pat, Molly Romero and husband, Michael, Benny Baca and wife, Yolanda, Anthony Lueras and wife, Carrella, Debra Runyan and husband, Brad, Gail Tafoya and husband, Sam; sisters, Josephine Sisneros, Petra Montano, Vie McLane, Todosia Lucero; brothers, Raynaldo Salinas, Clemente Salinas, Ramon Salinas; twenty grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, numerous other family and friends who greatly loved and will miss her. Services will be held at San Martin Catholic Church, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Apri1 26, 2001. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Apri1 27, 2001 with burial following at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. Mrs. Nieves S. Maldonado died Tuesday in Albuquerque at the age of 77. Mrs. Maldonado is survived by her sons, Frank Maldonado and wife, Debbie of California, Steve Maldonado, Johnny Maldonado, Richard Jerome Maldonado, Henry Maldonado, Peter Maldonado and Joseph Maldonado, all of Albuquerque; brother, Tony Sanchez of California; sister, Emma Padilla; grandchildren, Francisco A. Maldonado Jr., Steven Leonard Maldonado Jr., Angelo, Chrissy, Ruby, Katie, Steven, Veronica, Tina, Julia, Richard III, Pete, Gabriel, Henry Jr., Anna, and Anthony Henry Maldonado; and great-grandchildren, Justina, Steven III, Gabrielle, Francisco III, Rebecca and several other great-grandchildren. Funeral Services for Mrs. Maldonado will be held on Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be her seven sons. James R. (Bob) Mayward, LtCol, Ret. USAF., died peacefully at home on April 24, 2001 surrounded by family and friends. He was bobn September 14, 1922 in Wilmington, North Carolina and spent his early .years in Jackson, Tennessee. He served his country proudly for thirty years during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myra Walls Mayward and infant son, James Mayward and son Charles (Rod) Mayward. He is survived by his wife, Mary Etta Mayward; two sons, Richard M. Mayward and wife Denise, Doug Mayward and wife, Patti and daughter-in-law, Barbara Mayward. He is also survived by his step children, Charles Hostetler and wife, Ann, Karen Garrett and husband, Larry, Richard Hostetler, and Sara DiSantj and husband, Dimian. There are seven surviving grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church at 601 Montano Rd. NW. Marion Friedberg Meyers (Meyerowitz), age 94, passed away Monday, April 23, 2001 at Seven Acres Geriatric Center in Houston, TX after a long illness. Marion, beloved of her family, was a warm loving person "whose price is truly greater than rubies ". She knew no strangers. Reaching out to, and developing instant rapport with, all she met on her life's journey. Born in Chicago, IL and residing in Albuquerque for much of her life, she worked from an early age and had retired from the University of New Mexico where she had been employed for many years. Her last years were spent in Houston, TX to facilitate her daughters' caring for her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Reita A. Troum & Lee Trick of Houston, TX; grandchildren, William L. Troum of Albuquerque, Beth a Troum of Lakeland, FL, Deborah-Pfeiffer-Traum and her husband, Allan; and great-grandson, Nathan Pfeiffer-Traum of Houston, TX. She will be buried beside her loving husband, Alfred, brother, Alfred, and her mother, Sarah in Temple Albert Section of Fairview Cemetery with Graveside Services officiated by Rabbi Joseph R. Black at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2001. Memorial contributions may be made to Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services, 6200 North Braeswood Houston, TX 77074-7599.
