Mrs. Patricia C. ( Patti ) Quintana, 53, born and raised in Santa Fe, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1979 died April 25, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Quintana is the beloved wife of 36 years to Richard Quintana; she is also survived by three sons, Joe Ray Rodela of Tierra Amarilla, Rick of Rio Rancho, Chris and wife, Flo of Rio Rancho; one grandson, Nicholas; her loving parents, Vernon and Cecilia Rodriguez of Rio Rancho; sisters; Camilla Baca and husband, Bill of Albuq., Gina Robertson and husband, Sam of Rio Rancho, Verna Holmes and husband, Mark of Albuq.; her Uncle Donald Rodriguez and wife, Olivia of Santa Fe; mother in law, Pauline Quintana of Santa Fe; brothers in law, Robert Quintana of Santa Fe, Larry Quintana and wife, Liz of Santa Fe, Lonie Quintana and wife, Rene of Santa Fe; sisters in law, JoAnn Gonzales and husband, Arthur of Memphis and Margo Camponovo and husband, John of Cabot, Ar.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. Mrs. Quintana was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation will be Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a Memorial Mass to celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1502 Sara Rd, Rio Rancho, N.M. by Father Hoi Tran. Juanita Raquel Torres Richardson was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 24, 1948. She went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2003, after a courageous struggle with cancer. Juanita graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1966. She attended the University of New Mexico, graduating with a BS in Elementary Education/Special Education in 1970. She started her teaching career in Belen, New Mexico. She later taught in San Jose, California; Pasadena, Texas; and Albuquerque. Her father, Sinesio álvarez Torres and sister, Thelia Patricia, preceded Juanita in death. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Jim, and her loving children Angela and Tony. Other family members include: her mother, Angelina Calderon Torres; her brothers, Carlos and wife, Patty; Sinesio (Snip) and wife, Mary Helen; Emilio and wife, Midge; sisters, Rose Mary (Redd) Eakin and husband, Randy; and Jo-An Torres and husband, Dean Dye. Many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews were also blessed by being a part of her family. Juanita was a devoted wife and mother. She provided her husband and children with unwavering support and love. She will be remembered for her kindness, loving nature, unselfishness, nurturing spirit and abiding strength through her faith in the Lord. She always had a humorous story; she loved to sing; and delighted in enchanting children with story telling, often with her mom. She was known for enhancing her stories and school announcements with appropriate accents. She never met a cat she didn't love. Those who knew Juanita felt truly blessed to have her in their lives. The family extends deepest gratitude to the American Cancer Society, the New Mexico Cancer Center, and the compassionate caregivers in the Presbyterian Hospital Oncology Ward and to her supportive neighbors in Tinnin Farms. A Rosary Vigil Service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, at 7:00 pm at Risen Savior Catholic Community Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd., NE (just south of Paseo del Norte). A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 10:00 am at Risen Savior Catholic Community Church. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society ABQ Chapter, 5800 Lomas Blvd. NE, 87108, designated for the 'Juanita's Joy' fund. Your living memorial to this beautiful human being will be used to continue for people affected by cancer, what brought Juanita great joy throughout her life helping others to have a better life.

Susan Jane (Scarborough) Saylor
July 7, 1952 - April 26, 2003
Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Susan grew into a thoughtful and caring young woman in Miami Shores, FL but spent glorious summers on the N.J. shore with her wonderful grandparents and family. She attended Franklin Pearce Law Center in New Hampshire and UNM Law and was admitted to the N.M. State Bar on May 18, 1981 and the Colorado Bar on September 13, 1995. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 22 years, Rick and her cherished and treasured children, (her Bears), Brandon 18, Jonathan 15, Christoper 13, and Grant 11, of whom she was so very, very proud and who brought her so much joy; sister, Diane MacIness and husband, Brett; brothers, Frank and Ricky and mother, Loella and stepfather, Dick. She was proceeded in death by her father, Frank S. Scarborough Jr. Susan loved hiking with her dogs, angels and always put her loved walks in the country with family, the ocean, waterfalls, snowy days, animals, travel, yellow roses, the Crystal Cathedral, family holidays and gatherings, and her treasured summers with the children on the California shore at the beach house. Susan has always been enamored with angels about whom she spoke of and to quite often. She was an ardent supporter of abused and abandoned women and children, the Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence and the Humane Society in which she spent considerable time with inordinate compassion. Susan was the kindest, sweetwest and most generous person we have known. A celebration of Susan's life will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave. NE at 10:00 a.m., April 30, 2003, with Dr. Charles Crutchfield and a reception will follow in fellowship hall. Eleanor P. Varga, 81, passed away April 26, 2003 after a short bout with cancer. Her husband, Joseph preceded her in death in 1982. She is survived by sons, Robert and wife, Karen Varga, Kenneth and wife, Ruth Varga; daughters, JoAnn Ziegler Price and husband, Robert Price, Paula Gonzales and husband, Nocholas; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her brother, Walter Mleczko and sister, Catherine Sullivan, both of Las Vegas, NV. Eleanor served in the WACs in WWII and continued involvement in the WAC Albuquerque Chapter until her death. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria NE with Rev. Todd Salzwedel, Eleanor's grandson-in-law officiating. Barry Lee West
1956-2003
Barry Lee West, 46, a resident of Los Chavez, passed away on Saturday April 26, 2003. He was preceded in death by his father Barry J. West in 2001, his brother Neal West, and his grandparents. He is survived by his loving family, his mother, Alberta 'Bert' West, his brothers, Brock West and James West; his sisters, Juanita Bowman and her husband, Glen, and Barbie De La Cruz and her husband, Anthony, and his loving nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez on Tuesday April 29, 2003 with burial to follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. LaVerne M. Berg, 87, passed away April 24 in Bozeman, Montana. She was a resident of Albuquerque for 53 years. She was born January 11, 1912 in Chicago, Illinois to Dr. Milford Leach and Pauline Krueger. She attended Milwaukee State Teachers College. In 1934, she married Gilbert Allis Jr. in Crown Point, Indiana. In 1942, she and daughter, Jerelyn moved to Albuquerque. Mr. Allis was killed during the Normandy Invasion of WWII. In November of 1944, LaVerne married Jack Berg and together they had three children. She and Jack were married for 33 years when he passed away in 1977. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Nile and dedicated her life to raising her children and to being a loving wife. In 1993, she moved to Bozeman, Montana where her son lives. She is survived by her four children, Valerie Berg, Albuquerque, Rosemary Nelson, Greenfield, WI, Larry Berg, Gallatin Gateway, MT, Jerelyn Eisenberg, Albuquerque; sister, Doris Thomas, Albuquerque; grandchildren, Debbie Freebairm, Gary Eisenberg, Stephen Eisenberg, Noah Gins, Andrea Ellison, Robert Nelson, Vanessa Berg and Brandon Berg. LaVerne also has ten great-grandchildren. Cremation took place in Bozeman and a private family ceremony was held in her honor in the home of her son in Montana.

Tom Berry, 72, was born on December 18, 1926 in Raton, NM, a resident of La Cueva since 1970, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999. He is survived by his brother, F. Patrick Berry and wife, Connie of Los Lunas; sister, Ellen Starkovich and husband, Bill of Edgewood; 13 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; brother-in-law, Ed Tackett of T or C; sister-in-law, Eleanor Berry of Pueblo, CO; and dear friends, Joe Grider, Justin Grider and Jeff Grider, all of La Cueva. Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Aileen Berry; brothers, John Berry Jr., Eugene Berry and Daniel Berry; sister, Marjorie Tackett; and dear friend, Linda Grider. Rosary will be recited Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. C. Ruth Blair, 82, a resident of Albuquerque for 78, years, died Friday, April 23, 1999. She is survived by her son, Samuel H. Blair and wife, Barbara of Tome, NM; daughter, Beryl Whitlow and husband, Gary of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Bonnie Selva of Tome, NM, Mary Ruth Olsen and husband, Tom of Peru, SA, Frances Savage of Albuquerque, Sacha Blair of Tome, NM, Shana Obermiller and husband, Scott of College Station, TX; and grandson, Lt. Reagan Whitlow and wife, Deeanne of Eagle River, AK; great-grandchildren, Shawn Selva, Nisse, Haley and Benjamin Olsen, Sulie, and Jason Savage. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Sam B. Blair. Mrs. Blair was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and of United Methodist Women-Elizabeth Circle, and North Albuquerque Lioness Club for 43 years and also a member of the Questers and Sanctuary SS Classes. She was the secretary for the UNM Alumni Office for many years. Services will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Mr. Federico Martinez Carrillo, Ph.D., born in Valencia, NM on January 7, 1937, beloved only son of Amada Martinez Carrillo and Paulino Ballejos Carrillo, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 1999 at the age of 62. Dr. Carrillo will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 39 years, Ida Sanchez Carrillo. He will be mourned greatly by his two daughters, Paula Carrillo Gonzales and Ana Carrillo Seligman and their husband, Frank P. Gonzales and James A. Seligman. Dr. Carrillo leaves behind eight grandchildren who love him deeply, Mariana Gonzales, Louisa Gonzales, Francisco Gonzales, Angelina Gonzales, Theresa Seligman, Joseph Seligman, Lucas Seligman, and Daniel Seligman. Dr. Carrillo was so very proud of his eight grandchildren. He loved them very much. Dr. Carrillo is also survived by numerous family members and friends, many of whom he considered his brothers and sisters. Dr. Carrillo was preceded in death by his father, Paulino and mother, Amada; various uncles, aunts and other relatives, and most recently his father-in-law, Antonio Sanchez; and brother-in-law, Robert Shadoan. Dr. Carrillo had recently retired from a fulfilling and enriching career as a professor at the University of New Mexico. He had been with the College of Education for many years and had touched many people throughout his lifetime. He was an inspiration to so many. Dr. Carrillo enjoyed life, his family and friends. He was involved in many extracurricular activities such as volleyball and softball. Dr. Carrillo was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish for over 30 years where he was also an active member having loved the Virgen de Guadalupe so dearly. A Rosary will be held Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at Queen of Heaven Parish. Open viewing will be held Thursday, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and again on Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., in the mortuary chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven with interment to follow at the Valencia Cemetery, Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will always love you, Dad. Terezain Colson, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away early Wednesday morning. Mrs. Colson was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Colson; her mother, Eda Roque; and a sister, Marie Satchez. She is survived by one brother, Edgar Roque; a foster brother, Anthony Uorens, both of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitations will be Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary, on the corner of 8th and Stover. A Rosary will be recited Friday evening, 7:00 p.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Geraldine "Jerry" D. Hall, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Friday, April 23, 1999. She is survived by her son, Robert S. Hall and wife, Suzanne of South Gate, CA; daughter, Shellie Morcom and husband, Michael of Orono, ME; granddaughters, Trina Hall of South Gate, CA and Laura Hall-Morcom of Orono, ME; and grandson, Preston Hall of South Gate, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Allen E. Hall. Memorial Services will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m., at Chester T. Sue Hickey, a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years, died Friday, April 23, 1999 after a short illness. She is survived by her brother, Maurice White and wife, Polly of Sun City, AZ; one niece and two nephews, Connie, Alan and Ray; and close friend, Rosie Black of Albuquerque. Sue was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Hickey and Scott Blanton; and her sister, Josephine Huey. In her early years, Sue overcame a battle with Alcoholism, only to have a continual battle with Macular Degeneration throughout her life. She lived independently with occasional assistance until three months ago, when she could no longer be alone. Clarence J. Huenniger, 88, a resident of the Albuquerque area since 1974, and more recently of Manzano Del Sol Good Samaritan Village, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 1999. Clarence was born December 4, 1910 near Buffalo, New York. He studied at Millard Fillmore College and the American Institute of Banking. He was employed by the Marine Trust Co. of Western New York for over 17 years before receiving training and becoming an Executive of the Boy Scouts of America and serving councils in Buffalo, Olean and Rochester, New York. Clarence retired in 1973. Clarence was an involved member of All Saints Lutheran Church, he contributed over 5000 hours as a volunteer at Lovelace hospital. Clarence is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Violet B. Huenniger; son, John and his wife, Virginia of Edgewood, KY, son, Gary and his wife, Sandra of Cheektowaga, NY; grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife, Sheri and great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Andrew of Loganville, GA, Valerie of Albuquerque, James of Cincinnati, OH, Daryl of Cheektowaga, NY, Beth Nugent and her husband, David and great-grandchildren, Miles and Madeline of St. Paul, NC; a brother, Edward C. and his wife, Blanche of West Palm Beach, FL; along with two nieces and a nephew and many supportive friends in the community, especially Tom Ayer and John Silman. Jesus Jose Lujan Caballero, 18, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, April 26, 1999. Jesus was the beloved son of Jose and Emma Lujan. He is also survived by one sister, Lizette Lujan; and one brother, Derek Lujan; maternal grandfather, Pantaleon Caballero; paternal grandparents, Francisco Lujan and Antonia; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jesus was a member of the Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. George M. Millar, 73, a resident of Albuquerque for 23 years, died, Monday, April 26, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Lorna Millar of 47 years; daughter, Debbie Turner of Albuquerque; son, Kevin Millar, wife, Shannon of Albuquerque; one grandson, Michael Millar; and brother, William Millar and wife, Vi of White Rock, B.C. He was a minister for 11 years at Christ Unity Church. Mr. Millar was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Grand Rapids, MI. He enjoyed gardening and traveling. James Albert Milton passed away quietly on April 24, 1999. He was born November 7, 1910 in Lexington, KY, son of Hugh Melgone Milton I and Gorda Ovana Howard. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Fannie Lee Milton. They were married April 27, 1935 in Lexington, KY. Children and spouses are Larry Milton and wife, Suzanne of San Antonio, TX, Ovana and husband, Tyler Slocumb of Yokota Air Base, Japan, and Pamela and husband, Gary Felker of Westminster, CO. Grandchildren are James A. Milton of San Antonio, TX, Debra Gove of Caldwell, ID, Janis Glassini of Morenci, AZ, Amy Wilson of Spengdalem Air Base, Germany, Cynthia Hess of Wichita, KS, Alissa Swiger of Sulphur, LA, Belinda Slocumb of Marlborough, MA, and Christopher Slocumb of Albuquerque. There are also 13 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Col. Milton retired from the Air Force at the then Sandia AFB April 30, 1964 after 33 years of service. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps June 18, 1931 at Ft. Bliss, TX as a Corporal. He worked his way up through the enlisted and officer ranks in the Finance Department transferring to the Air Force when that became a separate service November 30, 1948 with the rank of temporary Colonel. After military retirement, he joined the staff of the Bank of New Mexico in Albuquerque, serving as Vice President and Senior Vice President in several capacities until retirement on November 30, 1975. James Milton will be fondly remembered by the Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque, The Rio Grande Woodcarvers' Association, The Knife and Fork Club, and the Petroleum Club of Albuquerque. He was also a member of Temple Lodge #6 AF & AM, Santa Fe Consistory Scottish Rite & The Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple. He was a very active member of Saint Mary's Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd. NE. Dorothy Jean Weimer Modrow, 75, a resident of Albuquerque for the last 18 years, passed away peacefully at her home on April 20, 1999 surrounded by her loving family. Her husband of 48 years, Harold "Hal" and four children survive her, Harold "Harrry" Edward Modrow III and his wife, Patricia of Maryland, James Modrow of Illinois, Mary Modrow of Albuquerque, and Jean Groepler and her husband, James of Alabama. Dot has three wonderful grandchildren, Eric, Jim and Katherine, all of whom she adored. Dot will be often and frequently missed by all that knew her. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29, 1999, 3:00 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 12120 Copper St. NE, with Rev. William G. Scranton III. Interment will be at the Moravian Cemetery in West Salem, IL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to Brother St. James Court, 2500 St. James Place, Springfield, IL 62702 or the Shriners Transportation Fund @ Ballut Abyad Temple.

Luciana (Lucy) Narvaiz, age 88. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 29, 10:00 a.m., at San Ysidro Church. Interment will follow at Agua Fria Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Peter Castanuela, Jeffrey Castanuela, Marcos Sanchez, Steve Long, Benito Herrera and Pedro Garcia. Arrangements are pending under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa, Santa Fe, 984-8600.

Ralph O'Connor, 74, passed away on April 20, 1999. Cremation has taken place and services are scheduled at a later date in Colorado. Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
