Ibis Cruz-Rivera, infant daughter of Lasaro Cruz-Gonzales and Ibis Rivea-Trimino, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001. She is also survived by brothers, Christopher William Rivera and Christian Sergio Rivera; sister, Chris Elizabeth Rivera; maternal grandparent, Evangelina Mireya, all of Albuquerque; and paternal grandparent, Juan Cruz and wife, Santa Gonzales of Cuba. Graveside services will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale SE. Pallbearer will be Ibis Rivera-Trimino. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Richard Davis, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Thursday, April 26, 2001. He grew up in Dawson, NM. Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Genevieve Burris Davis; son, Frank H. 'Rowdy' Davis; daughter, Roseann Avie Davis-Carr; grandchildren, Diana Lynn Carr-Hinchman, Richard Q. Davis, Taudra Arnell Davis-Byrd and Katherine Ann Davis Farden; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Isabel Davis Beck and brother, Lawrence Grover Davis. Richard was a rancher in Jornado Range, Black Range, Dona Ana County and Luna County. He was coordinator on Jornado experimental ranch with N.M.S.U. in research and development with beef cattle. Richard was involved in gold mining in Oregon. Service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, 10:00a.m. at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Road NW. William Eugene "Billy" Davis, was born November 15, 1951 in Battle Creek, Michigan but lived most of his life in Albuquerque. Many times we hear of people who are praised for the success and wonder of their lives and contributions to our world. But, there are also those who touch our lives just by being who they are. We are all put on this earth to fulfill a purpose and to find meaning for our lives. Billy was born with Down syndrome. While he did not achieve degrees in higher education or contribute his time to service organizations he had a very specific purpose for being. His purpose was to be a teacher. He taught us compassion, patience, and understanding for others who are different. He defined who we are as a family and helped shape who we are as individuals. Billy is survived by his devoted and loving parents, Dr. B.J. and Jean Davis of Albuquerque; his sister, Denise Davis and her husband, Tom Wilber, of Albuquerque; his brothers, Bruce Davis and his wife, Tina, of Albuquerque, Steve Davis and his wife, Christina, of Walnut, California, and Ron Davis and his wife, Renee, of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Bryan Matysiak of San Marcos, Texas; Brandon, Aaron, Desiree and Chad Davis of Albuquerque; Brittany and Aubrey Davis of Walnut, California; and Kaila and Sean Davis of Albuquerque. He also has many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Forever a child, he has blessed our lives without comparison, we love you Bill. Friends may visit on Sunday, April 29, 2001 from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Refugia "Rey" Dominguez, 90, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2001. She was very active in San Rafael Catholic Church, as well as belonging to the Sacred Heart Order of San Rafael. She was also on the Senior Center Board for over 30 years, and she was very involved in the Senior Olympics. She was preceded in death by her husband Guadalupe Dominguez in 1965, and her son Herman Dominguez on November 4, 2000. She is survived by six sons; Odie Dominguez and wife, Sophie of Grants, Bernie Dominguez and wife, Lila of Gallup, Eloy Dominguez and wife, Audrey of Oxnard, CA, Richard Dominguez and wife, Theresa of Grants; two daughters, Shirley Gonzales and husband, Santiago of Grants Annie Chavez and husband, Anthony of Arlington, TX; daughter-in-law, Mary Dominguez (wife of Herman); 36 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Trinne Medina and husband, Louis of Grants, many other family and friends who loved and will miss her. Services will be held at San Rafael Catholic Church, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday April 29,2001and with Mass at 10:00am Monday April 30,2001. Michael A. D'Ornellas, an area resident since 1975, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2001. Michael was a member of the Central New Mexico Builders Association. He served in the 82nd Airborne in the Vietnam Era. Michael is survived by his wife, Mary; mother, Elva D'Ornellas of Albuquerque; children, Michael Jr. and his wife, Christy, of Easley, SC, Kevin D'Ornellas and Paul D'Ornellas of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Michael, Josh and Matthew; sisters, Janice Defreitas and husband, Aubrey, of Phoenix, AZ, Donna Dasilva and husband, Robert, of San Diego, CA, and Maureen Stock and husband, Roger, of Albuquerque; and brother, Brian D'Ornellas of Albuquerque. Ana M. Edwards, age 91, died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at a local nursing home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Major General Parmer W. Edwards U.S.A.R. and her brother, Sir James Carreras. She is survived by her cousin, Edward Sturrp of Massachusetts; and niece by marriage, Mrs. Michael Carreras. She was active in the Assistance League of Albuquerque. She volunteered in the Bargain Box for many years. After retiring from the US Army, the couple lived in Florida and moved to Albuquerque about 1980. First they lived in a home in Four Hills and later at the Landmark Apartments. Eight years after the death of her husband, she went to the Lord. Memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 30, 2001 in the Kirtland Catholic Chapel, 1950 2nd St. SE on Kirtland Air Force Base at 11:00 a.m. Father Raymond Lamy will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. The arrangements for Ana M. Edwards are under the direction of the Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal SE.

Alice J. Fisher, 66, an Albuquerque resident since 1963, died Thursday, April 26, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Fred W. Fisher of Albuquerque; sons, Kenneth R. Fisher and wife, Susan of Rio Rancho, Harry W. Fisher and wife, Lisa of Alamogordo; daughter, Deborah L. Surdan and husband, Robert of Hillsborough, NJ; grandchildren, Pamela and Troy Fisher, Taylor Fisher, Jimmy Santo, Stacey and Kelsey Surdan and Eric Fisher; great-granddaughter, Allyson C. Fisher; sister-in-law, Myra L. Fisher of Edgewood; sisters, Irene Gorzell, Proxie Gawlik and Agnes Jaskina, all of Texas. A son, Ronald E. Fisher, preceded her in death. Alice was a wonderful wife and mother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Clarissa Matteson Parsons Fuller, 97, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 after a long period of failing health. Clarissa was born into a distinguished family in Chicago, IL, in July 1903. Her mother, Clara Matteson Doolittle, was a graduate of Smith College, Northhampton, MA. Her father, Harry Robert Parsons, was an attorney and a noted bass singer in Chicago area oratorios as well as an outstanding athlete. The family, including Clarissa and her brothers, William Sterling Parsons and Critchell Parsons, moved to Fort Sumner, NM in the early 1900s. Her half-brother, Harry Robert Parsons, continues to live there. William Sterling Parsons graduated from Annapolis and became a physicist and Rear Admiral. He was closely involved with the beginnings of radar and the proximity fuse, and was one of the pioneers of the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos. He was the 'weaponeer" on the Enola Gay, which dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, effectively ending World War II in the Pacific. Critchell Parsons graduated from UNM, where he won the Sigma Chi Balfour Award and went on to Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Clarissa Fuller received three academic degrees from UNM where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, Mortar Board and Phi Kappa Phi, and was one of the first women to earn her doctorate. She was married to Rice Bagby "Doc" Fuller, and is survived by two children, Dr. F.W. Fuller of Short Hills, NJ, and Hester Fuller Eastham, of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren, William, Clarissa, Miranda, Sebastian, and Nicholas Eastham, and Julie Fallon, Hester Fuller and Rice Bagby Fuller; as well as five great-grandchildren. Other survivors are her half-brother; and three nieces, Peggy Bowdich, Clare Parsons and Sandra Parsons. Clarence L. Griffith, III, 57, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, April 23, 2001. He is survived by his parents, C. Lyndon and Irene Gladys Griffith of Elkhart, Kansas; sister, Catherine Ann Griffith of Vancouver, WA; brother, Quintin L. Griffith and wife, Margaret of Chickasha, OK; niece, Cara and nephew, Tim of Vancouver, WA. Clarence was an expert in everything. He farmed for many years, had a pilot's license, a commercial driver's license, and had a love for cars and car racing. Tommy L. Hastie, age 71, passed away April 26, 2001 at home, after losing his eight year battle with cancer. As always he guided his loved ones with strength, dignity and a fantastic sense of humor. Born in Enid, Oklahoma, the family moved to Albuquerque in 1938, and he served in and retired from the US. Navy (1947-1967). A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Helen (Punkin); sons, Robbie Hastie of Hollister, CA., Randy Chilton and wife, Trinnie of Mountainair, NM.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Amy Tarnower and her great staff at Lovelace for such compassionate care and concern. Cremation has taken place. Eloisa G. Werner Howard, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, April 27, 2001. She is survived by hers sons, Karl T. Werner of Albuquerque and James Alarid of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Andrew J. Gonzales of Albuquerque; sister, Sarah Tapia of California; grandchildren, Karl T. Werner II, Brian Werner, Marvella Alarid and Renee Alarid; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Werner and Alex Andrew Werner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Eloisa was a lifetime New Mexico resident and longtime resident of Albuquerque. She worked with her husband, Tom at the Werner Abstract & Title Co. She also owned and operated a beauty salon. Rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Father Richard McGowen reciting. Kurt Kubie, a member of our community for 51 years, died peacefully on April 26, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Edith of 61 years; his daughter, Susie Kubie and husband, Arnie Melnikoff; his son, Jim Kubie and wife, Liz, and his grandson, Jacob Kubie, all of Albuquerque. Also surviving are his nephews, Hugo Marom and wife, Martha and great-niece, Evie Pollig of Israel, and Rudy Meisl and wife, Bev and great-nieces, Julie Meisl, Pam Meisl and Maria Harkavy of California. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1916, Kurt immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1938, escaping Nazi persecution. Bringing with him his enthusiasm and love for life, music, nature and art, he came to Albuquerque in 1950 and established Kurts Camera Corral, eventually expanding to three locations. Kurt enriched our community, devoting his time and resources to Jewish and cultural endeavors. He was president of Congregation B'nai Israel, B'nai Brith, and was the founding president of the Friends of Music, an organization to establish music scholarships at U.N.M He was an avid supporter of the symphony and opera and was an active fund raiser for causes like Project Share. He enjoyed skiing, tennis, art, and travel, and was a devoted soccer fan. The quality of his life, his character and his personality served as an example for many and will be missed by many more. This snapshot of his life does not compare to the reality of a life well lived with gusto, enthusiasm, beauty, and joy. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Fairview Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. with Rabbi Isaac Celnik officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Kubie, Rudy Meisl, Hugo Marom, Ralph Berkowitz, Bob Nordhaus, Connie Cohn, Gloria Blood, Ron Short, Sol Taylor, & Ron Taylor. A Memorial Service will be held at Congregation B'nai Israel Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Mary Margaret Kuehne, 84, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 after a period of failing health. She was born in Highland Park, IL on October 7, 1916 and was a resident of Albuquerque since 1943. Her husband, Raymond was stationed at Kirtland during the second World War. They were married 44 years until his death in 1986. Mary Margaret's greatest achievement, besides her children, came in 1970 when she graduated from UNM, Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. She began her career as an Educator, teaching French at Sandia and English at Eldorado. After she retired from teaching, she often took trips to visit friends in Europe. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her older brother, Kim Stevenson; and her very dear friend, Patsy Sherman. She is survived by her younger brother, Keith Stevenson and his wife, Vicki, of Sylmar, CA; her daughter, Anne Whiteside and her husband, Richard of Los Lunas, NM; her son, Loren Kuehne and his wife, Nancy of Las Cruces, NM; her two grandchildren, Ryan and Dru Whiteside. She also had many foreign exchange students who were very dear to her, Steffen and Marianne Johanson of Denmark, Anne and Per Trinderup also from Denmark, and Zubair Haq who is living in Houston and several others whom she considered her children. Cremation has taken place. Remembrance may be made by donations to Delta Hospice Inc., 3600 Menaul NE Ste. 1, Albuquerque, NM 87110.

Ambrose Garcia Martinez,92, returned home to the Lord on April 28, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Martinez. She is survived by her son, Arthur Garcia Sr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; step-son, Johnny H. Martinez, of Jacksonville, North Carolina; good friend, Mary Gonzales; sisters, Adelina Romero, Irene Rosales, Mary Atwell, Modesta Gallegos and husband, Ben; she is also survived by five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Lovelace Medical Center and Los Amigos Shelter Care for their care and compassion. Margaret Jane Forbes Murphy died at home in Albuquerque in the early hours of Friday morning, April 27, 2001 in the house which she shared with her son, Martin who had been her caregiver in the last years of her life. She was born in Lowell, MA on April 3, 1910. Before moving to New Mexico, she had lived for over two decades in Chester County, PA. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel F. Murphy Sr. of Downingtown, PA and her oldest son, Daniel F. Murphy Jr. of Detroit, MI. In addition to her son, Martin; her daughter, Marianna Margaret Murphy (Mrs. David) Cervantes of Waterford, MI survives her. She is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret, or Peggy as she was known as a girl and young woman, was from her youngest days, until osteoarthritis prevented her, an artist who painted in oils. She specialized in natural landscapes and still lifes. Her beauty lives on in her paintings. In her latter years, she would say that she derived much pleasure from the process of painting, and that if now other people could derive pleasure from looking at her paintings that would make her very happy. To all that encountered her, for even a brief interval, she was always a beautiful person. She not only retained the physical beauty of her youth into old age, many people remarking on her lovely complexion which she kept to the end, but she emanated to all who came in contact with her an inner radiance of the beauty of spirit. All who knew her were touched forever by that inner beauty. She was a devoted and loving wife. She was a mother beyond compare whose gentle guidance was tempered by a boundless love, the warmth of which suffused her children and all to whom she turned her lovely and loving smile. Her son, Martin, quoted from a plaque which he had given her for St. Valentine's Day in 1977, "A Mother is she who can take the place of all others. But whose place no one else can take." He had inscribed the back of that plaque with the words, "To my dearest ... Mother ... with my forever enduring love. "

Francine Elisha Nieto, 22, went home to the Lord on April 26, 2001. Francine was born July 26, 1978 to Horacio and Eloisa Nieto. She attended West Mesa High School. She is survived by her parents, Horacio and Eloisa Nieto; daughter, Monique Perchez; son, Luis Perchez, Jr.; Fianceé, Luis Perchez, Sr.; sisters, Patricia Reyes, Sandra Ortega, Melissa Pino and husband, Michael, Denise Nieto and Tomas Gutierrez; grandparents, Alfonso and Mela Nieto; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be deeply missed by her loving family. Visitation for Francine will be held Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening, also in the Mortuary Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edwin Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Luis Perchez, Martin Perchez, Armando Perchez, Leroy Hiles, Joseph Carrillo, and Paul Gonzales. Richard Paul (Rick) Rael, 37, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 27, 2001. Rick, is the beloved son of John G. Rael and Marcy; he is also survived by his son, Jeremy Brian Rael; the mother of his son, Janice Rael; one sister, Gloria Rael; one brother, John G. Rael and wife, Patricia; his grandmother, Margaret Baca; nieces, Amber Orona, Monica and husband, Steve Gonzales and their son, steve; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rick, was a member of the Catholic Church and an Iron Worker with the local union. A Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with visitation at the church after 6:30 p.m. Deacon Lorenzo Castillo, reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with final viewing at the church after 10:30 a.m. Father Gene, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Art Baca, Sonny Baca, Stevie Baca, Churck Martinez, Phillip Gondinez and Lawrence Garcia. Honorary will be, Dondie Paiz, Buddy Baca and Greg Gabaldon. Brett Sappenfield born in Muncie, IN died Saturday, April 28, 2001 of advanced Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) at the age of 28. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Harter; his sister, Krysta Scharlach; and his father, Duane Sappenfield; paternal grandmother; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Brett grew up in Albuquerque but moved to Tucson, AZ in 1994. Brett was a Microsoft Certified Software Engineer, and an A+ Certified computer repair tech. He was employed by the Field Support Team of America Online in Tucson. Brett's dream was to retire early and spend his life traveling the world. Those who knew Brett know that he did not give up his fight with cancer easily. He was a feisty, strong willed person who deserved a full life. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fern Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE with Chaplain Brenda Fleagle officiating. Instead of flowers, the family has asked that supporters please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in his name so that we can help find a cure.

Shirley Ann Morris Skinner, 85, of Albuquerque, passed away April 26, 2001. Shirley was born July 31, 1915 in Hopkinsville, KY. She married Elton Robert Skinner in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1972. Her oldest daughter, Jeannie Chadwell also preceded her in death. Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Leland Robert Skinner of Richfield, UT; by her daughter, Janice Caudill of Albuquerque; and by her grandchildren, Lori Chadwell Speelman of Idaho, and Rick Chadwell of Albuquerque, whom she raised as her own. Also surviving are six other grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Shirley spent most of her life living in Albuquerque. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family. She loved flowers and sunsets, and had a wonderful heart that always made room for new friends. Her time on earth is now past and she has earned her eternal rest. Her family will miss her smile and her laugh, as well as her example of perseverance. May Heavenly arms enfold and hold her dear. A special thanks to Delta Hospice and to Angels of Assistance for doing their job in an extremely professional manner. No public services are planned.
