Alfred "Buck" Buchalter, 67, a nine years resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly Sunday, April 23, 2000, from a broken heart. He was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on November 17, 1932 to Anna and Benjamin Buchalter of Hattiesburg, MS. He was the 2nd of three children. He married Dorothy F. Buchalter, his wife of nearly 48 years, on April 12, 1952 in Fresno, California. He was accompanied by Dottie during his 20 year career in the U.S. Air Force to assignments all over the US and Germany. He was a paralegal most of his career. The couple resided in Lubbock, Texas almost 17 years, eventually retiring in Albuquerque. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed travel, reading, and photography. He is survived by his son, Michael Buchalter and his wife, Elisabeth and grandsons, Quentin and Clifford; and brother, Irving Buchalter. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2000, 1:30 p.m., at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd. NE. Memorial contributions may be made in Alfred Buchalter's memory to the charity of your choice.

Baby Anriana Yolanda Castaneda, infant daughter of Carlos and Felicia Castaneda passed away and is now one of Gods little angels in heaven. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Deacon Tom Perra, officiating. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Rd SW in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Edward "Bob" Chegwyn, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Vivian D. Chegwyn of Albuquerque; stepson, Robert Bell of Albuquerque; sister, Betty Lange; and nephew, Jeff Lange, both of St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertha Chegwyn; brother and sister-in-law, John and Levina Chegwyn. Mr. Chegwyn had been an amateur Ham Radio operator since 1966. After moving to Albuquerque, he became a Ham Emergency radio operator. Mr. Chegwyn joined the Masonic Order in November 1945. In 1976, he was Master of the East Gate Lodge in St. Paul, MN. Later, he joined the Hazel Park Lodge and he also belonged to the York Rite, #312 both in St. Paul, MN. He was part of the Provost Unit of the Osman Shriners, also in St. Paul. When Mr. Chegwyn moved to New Mexico, he maintained an active role in the York Rite in Los Alamos. Services will be held Monday, May 1, 2000, 12:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Rev. Marsha Moore and Rev. Carmen Conner officiating. There will also be a Masonic farewell. Interment will take place at 3:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Esther Mae Coffman, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Saturday, April 29, 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Anne Bell and husband, G. Eric of Albuquerque, Linda Jean Stephens of Santa Fe, N.M., and Judy Lee Hauger and husband, Michael of Albuquerque; son, John Alexander Coffman and wife, Terri of Edgewood, N.M.; grandchildren, Stephanie Spray, John Spray, Jennifer Stephens, Casey Coffman, Kimberly Coffman, and Alex Hauger; great-grandchild, Elijah Spray; sister, Doris Flowers and husband, Herman of Albuquerque; and long-time friend, Diana Fein. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, N.M. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Winifred Alice Garrett, 82, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 28, 2000. Mrs. Garrett is the beloved wife of 57 years to Mr. Gerald Garrett. She is also survived by one son, Gary Garrett of Los Alamos, N.M. and a brother, Lewis Kidney and wife, Lucille. Private disposition has taken place. Dome A. Gilbert, 83, a resident of Las Vegas, NM, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000. She is survived by her sisters, Emma Armijo and Rose Dearholt of Albuquerque; brothers, Mayo Armijo and his wife, Corinne of Las Vegas, NM, and Solomon Armijo Jr. and his wife, Beverly of Yucaipa, CA; brother-in-law, Lewis A. Winston and Ozzie Molinar; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Dome was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Gilbert; and her parents, Solomon and Candelaria Armijo Ms. Gilbert earned her degree in Education from the University of New Mexico, where she majored in English. She taught in Magdalena, NM, was the Guadalupe County School Supervisor in Santa Rosa, NM, and served as an instructor of education at New Mexico Highlands University and a supervising teacher at Douglas Elementary. She spent many hours supporting the cause and leading the efforts of the League of Women Voters of which she was a charter member; she was also a charter member of the Association of University Women (AAUW) in Las Vegas. Ms. Gilbert was also an active member of the Arts Council, Library Association, Las Vegas Hospitality Auxiliary, and the St. Anthony's Hospital Auxiliary. She led the effort to support many local activities, but the one she was the most proud of was the Mardi Gras event which raised much needed money for the St. Anthony's Hospital in Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carlos Gilbert Elementary School, 300 Griffin Street, Santa Fe, NM, 87501. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 1, 2000, 9:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Las Vegas, NM, with Father George Salazar celebrant. Mr. Jerry G. Gonzales, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 29, 2000. Mr. Gonzales is survived by his beloved wife, Mary. Services are pending and will be announced. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Dr SW in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Ball Haddox has passed away. She was the wife of the late Ernest S. (Bill) Haddox, whom some will remember was the former "Roto-Rooter Man." She was the daughter of the late John C. and Effie Izor Ball of Middletown, Ohio. She is survived by daughter, Kerilu Trujillo; a grandson, Kellee Haddox Meyer; and a sister-in-law, Georgia Ball of Las Vegas, Nevada. Anne Elizabeth Lathrop Hansen passed away in her home in Albuquerque on Wednesday, April 26, 2000. Anne is survived by her four children and their families, Mark Hansen of Santa Barbara, CA, his daughter, Kathleen Dunn of Alexandria, VA, David Hansen and wife, Elaine of Chicago, IL, Leith Black and husband, Randy of Niceville, FL, their daughter, Alexandra, and Roderick Hansen and wife, Lydia of Albuquerque, their children, Ariana, and Andrew; sister, Frances Sweeney and husband, Edwin of Santa Fe (with whom Anne took several trips abroad in recent years); niece, Shawn Hollendonner and her family of Santa Fe; and nephew, Steven Sweeney and his family of Reno, NV. All agree that Anne's was a wondrous life, complete with adventure, discovery, and the poetry of family love. "I listened, motionless and still--- And, as I climbed upon the hill --- The music in my heart I bore--- Long after it was heard no more." Donald B. Hooper, born April 10, 1936, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000. Don grew up in Columbus, OH. He received his doctorate degree from Ohio State University. He taught at JU in Jacksonville, FL and retired in Albuquerque, NM. Don retired as a Major in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Masonry and DeMolay in Ohio and Jacksonville. Don is survived by his mother, Gertrude Hooper; daughters, Michelle Bell and her husband and Christine Turpen and her husband; and grandchildren, Jared, Dalton, Nicole, and Austin. Eleanor Jones, 76, a former resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 6, 2000 in Colorado Springs. She is survived by two sons, Jim and Michael Jones; a daughter, Jean Ann Koch; and two grandchildren, all of Albuquerque; and a sister, Patricia Nagel of Utah. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2000, 7:00 p.m., at the Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Road NE.

Lazaro Santos Martinez, 19, died on April 26, 2000 in Albuquerque. He was a Catholic and took his first communion at Annunciation Church in Albuquerque. He was a very loving brother and son, and will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his father, Jesus Martinez of Albuquerque; his mother, Lenore Armijo of Albuquerque; brothers, Diego Martinez and companion, Jennifer Montano of Albuquerque and Rudy Hernandez and wife, Jamie of Lubbock, TX; sisters, Malena McLaren and companion, Kevin Hobart of Denton, TX and Stacey Karpp of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandmothers, Bea Armijo of Albuquerque and Alejandra Rios of Mexico; nieces and nephews, Xazziel, Breonah and Alexis; and a very special friend and mentor, Melvin Nunez. Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, at Chapel of Sandia Funeral Care, with Fr. Antonio Mondragon of Prince of Peace Catholic Community as Celebrant. Grace McCallum, 88, passed away Sunday, April 23, at Manzano del Sol, Albuquerque, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. She is survived by Robert McCallum, her husband of 57 years; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Bruce Landesman of Salt Lake City, UT; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Virginia McCallum of Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren, Michael and Rachel Landesman (Salt Lake City) and Kendall and Ethan McCallum (Ames); and several nieces and nephews. Born Grace Roberta Glenn in Seward, Nebraska, she spent most of her school years in San Bernardino California, attending San Bernardino Junior College and receiving her BA from the Santa Barbara Teachers College. She worked as a registered dietitian in New York, Philadelphia, and Cleveland, and received her MS in Institutional Management from Columbia Teachers College. She was a Dining Hall Director at Stanford University when she married Robert McCallum in 1943 and moved to the Marine Corps Base at Cherry Point, North Carolina. The family lived in Pasadena, California and at Fort Hood, Texas before moving to Albuquerque in 1953. Grace resumed her professional career as dietitian for the Santa Fe Railroad Hospital and then as Director of the New Mexico Dairy Council. She served in many capacities, volunteer and professional, including chairing the New Mexico Press Women and receiving the New Mexico Home Economist of the Year award in 1970. A Memorial service will be held at Manzano del Sol, 5201 Roma NE, on Monday, May 1, at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Manzano del Sol.

Juanita C. McDonald, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2000. Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ralph L. McDonald on July 7, 1998, and is survived by her son, Monte P. McDonald and wife, Lisa; and four grandsons, Kenneth Sean McDonald and wife, Peggy, Timothy Lee McDonald and wife, Laurie, James Edward McDonald and wife, Jennifer, Mark Allen McDonald; and two granddaughters, Leigh Anne McDonald, Shaunda Elizabeth McDonald; one great-grandson, Zachary McDonald and a great-granddaughter, Makenna McDonald; and one sister, Vernadean Huegler. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2000 at Fitzgerald and Sons Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE with Deacon Frank Sei officiating. Cresenciana M. Montano, age 85, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, has departed this world to join our Lord Jesus Christ, Thursday, April 27, 2000. Mrs. Montano was a lifelong resident of New Mexico; an Albuquerque resident since 1957; and a parishioner of San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roque Montano. She is survived by her loving children, son, Bailon Montano; three daughters, Della Garcia and husband, Orlando, Lucella Gonzales and husband, Rey, Tommie Blea and husband, Bernie; two grandsons that she raised, Bailon Montano Jr. and Roque Montano; and ten other grandchildren, Orlando, Annabel, Daniel, John, Lorenzo, Michelle, Jennifer, Monica, Lorencita and Rey Jr.; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Alfonso Manzanares and wife, Lilia; two sisters, Loretta Flores and Margarita Lovato. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. John James Mound III, born August 2, 1978, and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died on April 25, 2000. He was an especially loving son to Jay and Kathy, and adored by Tyler, his little brother. His biggest desire was to be able to return home to live with his family and be able to interact with all members of his extended family. He was a talented boy and aspired to resume full participation in his education, employment, and live an ordinary life. He had a passion for nature and all of its beauty and loved to feel the wind in his face. Jon was a gifted athlete, especially in basketball and soccer. Always a team player, he displayed sportsmanship, win or lose. Seldom has there been a child who was loved so much by so many in so short a life. Loving survivors include his parents, John "Jay" James Mound II and Kathryn Lynn Mound; brother, Tyler Marcial Montgomery Mound; great-grandmother, Vina Atencio; great-great-aunt, Vangie Huchamala and husband, Archie and family; grandparents, John "Jack" James Mound I and wife, Betty, Suzann Trout, Kelo Martinez and Antoinette Sanchez, and Anna Belle Miller and husband, Rod. He is also survived by aunts, Karen "Marie" Mound and daughter, Lindsay, Shannon Bonness and husband, Rik and sons, Eric and Alex, Suzy Mound and son, Nathan, Deanna Firebaugh and husband, Jeffery and children, Erika and Hunter, and Karen Kelly and daughter, Kristina; and an uncle, Lee Kittell and wife, Frances and children, Callen and Heidi. Surviving great-aunts include Carol Perkins and husband, Marvin and children, Ron and Tammy, and the children of Elizabeth Atencio, who preceded John James in death, Eugenia, Joseph and Tessie, Rosemary De La O and husband, Leo, Josie Counce and husband, Dwayne and children, Chuck, Michael and Joni. Surviving great-uncles include Archie Atencio and children, Jessica and Thomas, Melvin Atencio and children, Anthony, Melanie, and Matthew, Leonard Atencio and wife, Denise and daughter, Jamie, Delfie Atencio and children, Michael, Delouise and Andrew, Johnny Atencio and wife, Nelly and children, Scott and Robinson, Joseph Atencio and wife, Karen and children, Jolene and Matthew, Anthony Atencio, Michael Atencio and children, Michael J. and Aaron, and Dick Mound and wife, Carol and sons, Rick and Sean. Charles E. Nieman, age 76. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 1, 10:00 a.m., at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. Francis Cathedral. Gailya "Gail" Orona, 64, a resident of Albuquerque since 1997, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Rick Orona of Albuquerque; children, Timothy Mark Castleberry of Ridgecrest, CA, Melody Sedillo and husband, Frank of Santa Fe, Kitty Romero and husband, Gabe of Rio Rancho, Becky Hall and husband, Doug of Memphis, TN, Joseph Castleberry and wife, Ginger of Oklahoma City, OK, and Nancy Jones and husband, Jeff of Oklahoma City, OK; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Jim Smith and wife, Kay of Cabot, AR, and John Smith and wife, Lena of Santa Fe. Nell Marie Osman, born May 13, 1924 in Durango, Colorado died Friday, April 28, 2000, a resident of Albuquerque for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles Oslman Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Johnson and sons, Doyle, Gary and Leonard Nelson and Charles Osman Jr. and wife, Lois; sister, Lucille M. Pienfold, all of Albuquerque; brother, Frand Hoen and wife, Hope of Long Beach, CA; father, Fred Hoen and wife, Orion of Rio Rancho; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leroy A. Pacheco (Survivor and Casper), 40, beloved father, son, brother, and uncle was called to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 27, 2000. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Phillip and Charlie Pacheco. He is survived by his loving daughter, Alisha Pacheco and ex-wife, Annette Pacheco; his parents, Joe B. Pacheco and Rose L. Torres; two sisters, Elizabeth Quinn and family and Prescilla Vigil and husband, Manuel; three brothers, George Pacheco, Frankie Pacheco and Alfonso Pacheco. Also surviving are his grandmother, Sista Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Pedro Rodregiz Santiago, 74, beloved and devoted husband and father was called home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 28, 2000. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Paul Gregory Sosa, born on May 9, 1966, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, Moises and Lugarda (Laura) Sosa; a brother, Steve Sosa; and grandparents, Eufemia and Juan Garcia. Paul is survived by three sisters, Frances and husband, Allen Colwell, Angela and husband, Daryl Fluke, and Jesse Sosa; also surviving are eight nieces and nephews, and many aunts and uncles. Paul was a lifelong resident of Bernalillo, where his presence was a positive consequence of the town's regard and acceptance of it's individuals. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, loved music and was a Mariachi enthusiast. He was very family centered and loved tradition. Paul was appreciated by both students and staff of the Bernalillo School system, where he graduated in 1987. Paul was an active participant of Share Your Care of Rio Rancho, where his presence was a positive contribution. The family expresses their great appreciation to Share Your Care for helping Paul take pleasure in his life. Visitation will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. also in the chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery.
