William (Bill) V. Ohler, born May 22, 1913 in Anderson, Indiana, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, April 28, 2001, in Albuquerque, NM, his home since 1993. A long-time resident of Dallas, he was married for 62 years to his beloved wife, Marjorie, who preceded him in death in 1995. He was retired from Sunshine Biscuits after 30 years of employment and from the Sweetheart Cup Co. after ten years of employment. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Turner and husband, George, of Albuquerque and Joyce Mayor of Friendswood, TX; grandchildren, Debbie Harding and husband, Les, of San Antonio, TX, Laurie Froebel and husband, Keith, of Houston, TX, David Turner of Albuquerque, Jennifer Munson and husband, Michael, of Houston, TX, and Jeremy Mayor of College Station, TX; great grandsons, Drew Harding of San Antonio, TX, Will Froebel of Houston, TX, and Cameron Munson of Houston, TX; great-granddaughter, Alex Froebel of Houston, TX; sister, Dorothy Grant and nephew, Gary Grant and wife, Carmen, all of Indianapolis, IN; and many loving friends. Services and interment will be held on Friday, May 4, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6000 S. R.L. Thornton Frwy, Dallas, 75232. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday. His family wishes to thank the staff at Manor Care Camino Vista Health Services for their many kindnesses and loving care. William Thomas Pyburn Sr., was born on October 17, 1932, to Buren B and Virdia Pyburn in Killeen Texas, and died April 23, 2001. Tom moved to Los Alamos New Mexico with his family in 1947. He graduated High School in Los Alamos in 1951, served in the Navy for four years, then returned to Los Alamos with his first wife of 29 years, Joyce (Olson) Pyburn and their first child. Tom worked as a pipefitter at Los Alamos National Laboratory for 43 years. In 1992,Tom married Billie Marie Dunn, of Killeen, TX. They would have celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary on June 27, 2001. Tom retired in 1995 and later moved to Killeen, TX where Billie Marie's family surrounded Tom and Billie Marie with nurturing love and care during the difficult months of his illness. Tom is preceded in death by his daughter, Marion Virdia Pyburn (1971); his brother, Buren B (Pete) Pyburn, and his parents. He is survived by his son, William Thomas (Tom) Pyburn Jr.; daughters, Elaine Deschamp and Janet Cowan all of Los Alamos, and Annie Wainer (Pyburn), of Chicago. He has three grandchildren, Joshua Cowan, Daniel Deschamp, and Jesse Deschamp. He has one great grandchild, Kori Ann Armijo, daughter of Joshua Cowan and Priscilla Armijo. He is also survived by his brother's wife, Carol Pyburn and her children, William Patrick (Pat) Pyburn, Brenda Tapia, and Lisa Olivas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in care of Bethlehem Lutheran Church to be donated to Vista Care Hospice in Temple Texas, Los Alamos Visiting Nurses and Hospice, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. A Memorial Service celebrating Tom's life will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road, Los Alamos NM, on Thursday afternoon, May 3, 2001, 2:00 p.m.

A Rosary for Richard Paul (Rick) Rael, will be recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Of The Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with visitatioin at the church after 6:30 p.m. Deacon Lorenzo Castillo, reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with final viewing at the church after 10:30 a.m. Father Gene, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors RD SW in charge of the arrangements.

Brett Sappenfield born in Muncie, IN died Saturday, April 28, 2001 of advanced Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) at the age of 28. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Harter; his sister, Krysta Scharlach; and his father, Duane Sappenfield; paternal grandmother; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Brett grew up in Albuquerque but moved to Tucson, AZ in 1994. Brett was a Microsoft Certified Software Engineer, and an A+ Certified computer repair tech. He was employed by the Field Support Team of America Online in Tucson. Brett's dream was to retire early and spend his life traveling the world. Those who knew Brett know that he did not give up his fight with cancer easily. He was a feisty, strong willed person who deserved a full life. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fern Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE with Chaplain Brenda Fleagle officiating. Instead of flowers, the family has asked that supporters please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in his name so that we can help find a cure.

Shirley Ann Morris Skinner, 85, of Albuquerque, passed away April 26, 2001. Shirley was born July 31, 1915 in Hopkinsville, KY. She married Elton Robert Skinner in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1972. Her oldest daughter, Jeannie Chadwell also preceded her in death. Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Leland Robert Skinner of Richfield, UT; by her daughter, Janice Caudill of Albuquerque; and by her grandchildren, Lori Chadwell Speelman of Idaho, and Rick Chadwell of Albuquerque, whom she raised as her own. Also surviving are six other grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Shirley spent most of her life living in Albuquerque. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family. She loved flowers and sunsets, and had a wonderful heart that always made room for new friends. Her time on earth is now past and she has earned her eternal rest. Her family will miss her smile and her laugh, as well as her example of perseverance. May Heavenly arms enfold and hold her dear. A special thanks to Delta Hospice and to Angels of Assistance for doing their job in an extremely professional manner. No public services are planned. Marvin Lee Smith, 63, a resident of Albuquerque passed away April 26, 2001. He is survived by his son, Clifton Spencer; and daughter, Pam Smith both of Albuquerque; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother, Lerene Smith; sisters, Nila Cooper, Arlene Smith, Elaine Williams, Dorothy Smith, Ann Peterson and Larcie Warner all of Dallas, TX, Yvonne Mayo and Sylvia Kellum both of Roswell, NM; brother, Manuel Smith of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Johnny "Larry" Torres, age 46, passed away unexpectedly in Albuquerque Thursday morning, April 26, 2001. He was born August 6, 1954, in Albuquerque. He is survived by his parents; Ciprian and Frances Torres; two sisters, Beatrice Flores, Bella and her husband, Dennis Madrid; numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins, all of Albuquerque. Larry was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at Queen of Heaven Church Monday, April 30, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will also be held at Queen of Heaven Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers are D.J. Mrs. Celia (Maria) G. Armijo, 96, a resident of Albuquerque born May 15, 1905 in Santa Rosa, N.M. (Los Tanos), passed away peacefully in her home in the arms of her loving family on April 29, 2002. Mrs. Armijo is preceded in death by her son, Marshall Armijo. Mrs. Armijo is the beloved wife of 78 years to Joe A. Armijo. She is also survived by her son, Joe O. Armijo and wife, MaryLou of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren, Darlene and husband, John Stapleton, Dorothy and husband, Butch McCoy, Diane and Daniel Willis, J.D. and wife, Eleanor Armijo, Martin and wife, Renee Armijo, Roberta Carroll and husband, Dennis, Laura Juarez and husband, Richard, Susan Bostic and husband, Gene, Anita Garcia and husband, Ralph, Victoria Cordova and husband Bill, RoseAnne Gallegos and husband, David, Christy Porter, John Marshall Armijo, Mike Armijo and wife, Cindy; 31 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Armijo began teaching school at the age of 18 in a one room school house in Anton Chico, N.M. Mrs. Armijo graduated from St. Joseph College (Univ. of Albuquerque) She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Altar Society since 1953. Mrs. Armijo and her husband Joe, moved to Albuquerque in 1937 where she continued teaching for A.P.S. for 38 years. During World War II, she moved her family to Long Beach, Ca. where she worked at Douglas Aircraft Plant. They returned to Albuquerque after the war ended. A visitation for Mrs. Armijo will be Wednesday evening after 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of The Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. N.W. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., by Darlene Stapleton and Susan Bostic. A final viewing will be Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Father Gene Gries. Bennie Baca, 83, a resident of Estancia, NM went home to be with the Lord on April 27, 2002. He was born on March 21, 1919 in Santa Fe, NM. He is survived by his lovely wife, Marie P. Baca of 60 years; his daughter, Diane Cota and husband, Eloy Cota of Albuquerque; his sons, Don Baca and wife, Cecilia A. Baca of Estancia, Dennis Baca and wife, Elaine Baca of Valley Springs, CA; his grandchildren, Martin and Danae Cota, Garrentt, Erin, Kolt Baca, and Buck Baca and Jamie Baca-Behm; great-grandchildren, Justin Baca and Dacey Behm; sister, Sally Ortiz of Santa Fe; sister-in-law, Rita Baca of Pacifica, CA; brother-in-law, Joey Ortiz of Edgewood, NM; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Maria Baca y Zamora; brothers, Freddie, Tony, Jose Baca; sisters, Querina Baca and Tesse Ortiz. Bennie was a member of the Estancia Catholic Church, a member of the Scared Heart League. He was a Golden Glove Champion in the 1930's, a member of the National Guard in the 1930's. Papa enjoyed horseback riding, farming, raising vegetables for sale up until 2000. He was the founder of "El Cid Stucco" finally putting his plastering tools to rest when he was in his 70's. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. His generosity, his ornery wit, and the way he wore his hat or caps at a slant on his head, his unconditional love for life and his family will remain in our hearts forever. Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 29, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the Saint Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Estancia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Martin Cota, Garrentt Baca, Kolt Baca, Steven Ortiz, Johnny Gomez, Eloy Cota. Lewis Balch, 88, a 38 year resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 28, 2002 with his family at his bedside. He was born in Wenatchee, Washington of a pioneering farming family. After working as a teacher and a rancher, he became a machinist and remained in that occupation for over 40 years. He married Juliet Whitaker in 1938, a marriage of 60 years that shall last into eternity. Juliet preceded Lewis in death in 1998. He is survived by his sons, John Balch and wife, Beth; William Balch and wife, Kathleen; Thomas Balch and wife, Julie; Russell Balch; and Richard Balch; daughters, Mary Louise Smith and husband, Alan and Ann Balch; nine grandchildren; and other family and friends. Memorial Services will be held at Albuquerque Bible Church, 320 Montano NW on Wednesday, May 1,2002 at 10:00 a.m. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all. Ruby Juanita Broyles, 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1997, died Saturday, April 27, 2002. She is survived by her brother, William S. McElvaney; nieces, Carol Skaggs and Susan Davis, all of Albuquerque; brother, James Allen McElvaney and wife, Billie of Hobbs; nieces, Naomi Jordan of Hobbs and Ann Smith of Odessa, TX; nephews, Bob McElvaney of Hobbs and Frank McElvaney of Odessa, TX; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, James Anderson McElvaney and Cordelia Texas Hunt McElvaney; her brother, Malcolm W. McElvaney; her 1st husband, Herbert L. Gunter; her 2nd husband, J. Curtis Broyles; and her nephew, James McElvaney. Manuel Cordova, 52, a resident of Albuquerque and a former resident of Logan, NM, devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, died Sunday, April 28, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Vickie; daughter, Andrea; son, Armando; parents, Emma and Alfredo Cordova; brothers, Arturo and wife, Sandra of Seattle; Jose and wife, Ida of Albuquerque; Theodore and wife, Evelyn of Loving; Ernest and wife, Valerie of Portales; John and wife, Dora of Las Cruces; and sisters, Angie and Wayne Jackson of Porter and Christina Whitfield of Albuquerque. Mary K. Williams-Cummings, 66, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died Sunday, April 28, 2002. She is survived by her husband of nine months, Verlin D. Cummings of Albuquerque; daughters, Terry Sue Torrison and husband, William of Las Cruces and Kaye Willliams-Knapp and husband, John of Albuquerque; sons, Ronald Williams and wife, Jane and Robert Williams and wife, Rebecca, all of Richmond, VA; stepson, Verlin D. Cummings, Jr., of Albuquerque; brother, Rev. Ralph Dale and wife, Ellen of Gastonia, NC; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many relatives and special friends. Maggie Darnell, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1996, died Sunday, April 28,
2002. She is survived by her daughters, Patty Kroeker of Albuquerque and Billie Mills and husband, Leon of Wichita, KS; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sue Carvalho of Hemit, CA and Faye Urbanek and husband, Jessie of Fresno, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie; and three sons, Les, Dean and Jimmy. Services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., at Dunn's Funeral Home in Tucumcari. Muriel Evanoff, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, died Sunday, April 28, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Capt. John D. Evanoff II, USN, his wife, Carolyn; and Mark Evanoff; daughter, Mary C. Pease; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Cmdr. John D. Evanoff, USN. Muriel was born January 2, 1923 in New York and married John D. Evanoff on March 15, 1944. She was a member of the Golden Agers, Anchors, and longtime member of Gold Star Wives-Zia Chapter, and Kirtland Widows-Irma Chapter. Muriel was an avid bridge player, active in many tournaments and clubs. A recent resident of the Woodmark at Uptown, Muriel touched the lives of many in the brief time she lived there. Our mom was petite in stature; a giant in heart and spirit; an eternal optimist who gave unselfishly to others in need. Roger J. Fernandez, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, died Sunday, April 28, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Julia Fernandez. He is survived by his sons, Roger P. Fernandez and fiancé, Patricia, Michael J. Fernandez and wife, Dorothy, all of Albuquerque and Frank E. Fernandez of Fresno, CA; daughters, Margaret DuBois and husband, David of Ridgecrest, CA and Patricia Bowden and husband, Carl of Waxahachie, TX; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Ebenezer Fernandez and Allan Gordon; and sisters, Irma Fernandez and Nancy Iribarren. Mr. Fernandez was a WWII Navy Veteran and he was active in the local Masonic Lodge #6. Services will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m., at the Chester T. Annalee Harris, 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Saturday, April 27, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Richard Lee Harris and wife, Debby of Albuquerque and John Carney Ritterhoff, Jr., of Kansas City, MO; stepdaughter, Glenna Rae Lasater and husband, Billy Joe of Breckenridge, TX; grandchildren, Sean Patrick Harris, Kiyomi, John Howard, James Carney, Joe Lee Ryan, Jessica Annalee Ritterhoff, Paulette Shields and Laura Ann Hamilton; seven great-grandchildren, Michelle and John Ritterhoff, Jennifer and Trey Hamilton, Tracy, Robyn and Caitlin Shields; sister, Hazel Marie Bays; nephews, Dax and Mike Bays; and niece, LaNell King. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Howard Harris. Annalee was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She retired from Albuquerque Public Schools and she loved to travel. Tommie J. Judie, 71, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2002. She is survived her husband, Roscoe Judie of Albuquerque; daughter, Jean White of Abilene, TX; grandson, Ronnie Houston; brothers, C.L. White of Albuquerque, Alex Andrew and Billy Andrew, both of Midland, TX; sisters, Ophelia White and Margaret McFarland, both of Abilene, TX and Doris Johnson of Roby, TX; and special cousin Mary Williams of Albuquerque. Frances Cannizzaro-Lanzetta nee Ferrante born 1915 in Brooklyn, New York and a resident of Albuquerque since 1989 died, Sunday, April 28, 2002 at St. Joseph Healthcare. She is survived by her son, Paul Cannizzaro and wife, Maria of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Cannizzaro and Louis Lanzetta M.D.; sister, Sophie Rinella; and brothers, Frank Ferrante M.D., Anthony Ferrante, Jr. and Gaspare Ferrante. She was preceded in death by her mother, Santa Mangiamelli Ferrante; and father, Anthony Ferrante. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made as a Mass of Remembrance. Services and interment will take place in Westbury, NY. Arrangements made by French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

A Final Visitation for Anna M. Marquez will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Funeral Service to be held at 10:00 a.m. by Pastor Richard Mansfield. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Rd SW in charge of the arrangements.
