Bobbie Kay Stokes, 40, a resident of Albuquerque since 1996, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Richard Stokes of Rio Rancho; mother, Mata Louise Graham and husband, James Robert of Albuquerque; father, Robert Stokes and wife, Gayla of Guthrie, OK; grandmother, Marguerite Roberts of Albuquerque; sister, Mata Marie Westmoreland and husband, Claude of Albuquerque; brother, Robert Stokes, Jr. and wife, Beth of Tulsa, OK; sister, Amber Dawn Stokes of Guthrie, OK; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. CATHY HOPE CHACON, 37, of Española died Wednesday. She was preceded in death by her father, David Chacon; brother, David Chacon Jr.; and grandmother, Antonia Chacon. She is survived by her children Bernadette Trujillo, and Nicole and Danny Chavez; mother, Esther Chacon; brothers and sisters Ricky, Virginia, Debbie, Horacio and Anthony Chacon, all of Española; grandmother, Sofie Lopez of Grand Junction, Colo.; uncle, Tomas Herrera of Grand Junction, Colo.; aunts, Ermenie Garcia, Marcella Jacquez, Lucy Pacheco, and LaLa Gonzales; boyfriend, Pat Anzaldua; and numerous nephews and nieces. APRIL MYAH DUPRE, six weeks old, of Alcalde died Wednesday. She was born March 14, 2000, in Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her aunt, April Martinez; uncle, Danny Trujillo; and her great-grandfathers. She is survived by her parents, Michelle and Fred Dupre of Alcalde; sister, Renee Martinez of Alcalde; paternal grandmother, Ruth Dupre of El Llano; paternal grandfather, Fred Dupre of Alcalde; maternal grandparents, Joan and Glen Archuleta of Rio Chiquito, and Marshall and Melba Martinez of Española; maternal great-grandmothers Manuelita Martinez of Rio Chiquito, and Clara Martinez of Chimay¢; godparents uncle Joseph and aunt Denise Martinez of Cordova; other aunts and uncles Jeffrey Dupre of El Llano, Lori Martinez of Chimay¢, Chris Montoya of La Mesilla, Raymond Romero of Rio Chiquito, Marsha Martinez of Española, Ted and Glenda Allen of Roswell, Deborah Archuleta of Roswell, and Brenda Archuleta of Taos; and numerous other relatives and friends. JOSE DESIDERIO OLGUIN, 79, of El Alto, N.M., died Wednesday at the Northeastern Regional Hospital in Las Vegas following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 6, 1920, to Pablo Olguin and Clorinda Martinez Olguin in El Alto. He retired in 1995 from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a mail carrier for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Mora. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children Adelaida Maestas and husband Raymond of Denver, Olivia Montaño and husband Robert of Corrales, Charles Olguin and wife Vera of Bernalillo, Robert 'Bobby' Olguin, and Gilbert Olguin, both of El Alto, and Theresa Olguin of Las Vegas, N.M.; grandchildren Gary Maestas, Patrick Maestas, Lawrence Maestas, Michael Montaño, Loretta Montaño, Mario Olguin, Charles 'Carlos' Olguin, Stephanie Olguin, Adriana Olguin, and Victoria Olguin; great-grandchildren Joshua Maestas and Antonio Maestas; sisters Corrine Armijo and husband Jimmy of Albuquerque, and Dora Mascareñas and husband Ray of El Alto; special niece, Patricia Mascareñas; special nephews, Narciso Mascareñas and Paul David Armijo; and numerous other relatives and friends. HARRY L. 'H.L.' PEñA, 42, of Grants died Tuesday. Along with his wife, he owned and operated H & I Vending Services. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was born April 13, 1958, to Elizardo and Mabel Peña of Milan, N.M. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Roberta Trujillo. He is survived by his wife, Irene Peña of Grants; daughter, Melanie Lucero and husband Ben of Las Vegas, Nev.; parents, Ellizardo and Mabel Peña of Milan; brother, Leonard Peña of Albuquerque; and numerous other relatives and friends. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Block-Salazar Mortuary in Española. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Vallecitos Mission Church in Vallecitos. CIRILIA ROCHE, 88, of El Rancho died Wednesday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eduviginio Roche. She is survived by her children Annabelle Carreno and husband Ignacio, Sylvia Molina and husband Eleazar, and Christina Lopez; brother, Redro Roybal and wife Dora, all of El Rancho; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation at 6:30 p.m. today at the San Antonio Catholic church in El Rancho with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at the same church. John Edward (J.E.) Cassel, 89, born August 28, 1911 in Maryville, MO, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001. Ed was a resident of Albuquerque in 1935 and from 1943 to date; he previously resided in Gallup (1936-37), Hobbs (1937-39) and Santa Fe (1939-43). He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara Cassel; sons, Bill of Albuquerque and Rick and wife, Corliss of Raleigh, NC; daughters, Mary and husband, Glen of Hamilton, TX, Kathleen of Reno, NV and Marti of Albuquerque; brother, Charles and wife, Leona of Lenexa, KS; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara; a son, John Jr.; and a sister, Cecilia. Ed was a Certified Public Accountant since 1939, past president (1946-47) of the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, president (1969-79) of the New Mexico Trust Company, treasurer of the Albuquerque 250th Anniversary celebration (1956) and a public accounting practitioner for 45 years; a former member (1950-51) of the New Mexico State Board of Public Accountancy; a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1935 (Albuquerque Council #641) and its Rev. A.M. Mandalari General Assembly, Fourth Degree, and an officer in the Council and/or Assembly for more than twenty years; member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (honorary since 1984) and a former member of its governing Council. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas NE, with Father Francis X. Eggert, Celebrant. Suzanne Corlew, 34, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, loving mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, great niece, fiancé and friend, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001. She is survived by her son, Charles V. Corlew of Albuquerque; father, Michael Corlew and wife, Johnnie Lou of Folsom, CA; mother, Sue Corlew; sisters, Cathleen Corlew and Diana Corlew; fiancé, Pat Mulloy, all of Albuquerque; grandmother, Minnie Corlew of Vestaburg, MI; great-aunt, Hattie Sewell of Albuquerque; one uncle; four aunts; numerous cousins, relatives and friends. Suzanne graduated in 1983 from Manzano High School. She attended Texas Wesleyan University and UNM. Suzanne was active in the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta as a launch director for over 10 years. She was employed by KASA Fox Television. Suzanne was a member of ADFED. She was also a member of Central United Methodist Church. Suzanne volunteered for many organizations and activities. Gene E. Donoghue, age 61, passed away Wednesday morning, May 2, 2001 in a local hospital. He was born July 22, 1939 in Albuquerque to the late Edward and Gene (Pace) Donoghue. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Ann Donoghue of Albuquerque; one daughter, Kimberly Jean Donoghue and one son, Scott Edward Donoghue both of Albuquerque; four sisters, Norma Capeci of Springfield, Missouri, Margaret Fretwell, Durango, Colorado, Elaine Yeary, Albuquerque, Joan Kolbush, Albuquerque; four brothers, Charles N. Donoghue, Albuquerque, Michael Donoghue, Albuquerque, Edwin Donoghue, Belen, New Mexico, David Donoghue, Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Brittney and Jordan Donoghue of Albuquerque. He was a member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church. Gene entered the U.S. Army in 1957 where he served his country for three years. He was a boy scout as a young boy and later he was a scout leader with his son, Scott. Gene started Rocky Mountain Roofing Company in 1979 and retired in 1999. Gene loved hunting, fishing and was a Lobo Fan and a donator to the Lobos. He was a very generous and compassionate man not only to his family, but to his friends and all those who knew him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Great southwest Council of Boy Scouts, Sandia Hospice or a charity of your choice. Freddie P. Gross, 75, a resident of Albuquerque for 56 years, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann; sons, Roger P. Gross and wife, Gena and Stephen L. Gross; granddaughter, Kimberley Silva and husband, Joseph; grandson, Jason P. Gross; great-granddaughter, Alexis Silva, all of Albuquerque; brother, A.V. Gross and wife, Patsy of Cape Girardeau, MO; sister, Peggy Hitt of Kelso, MO; mother-in-law, Mary Victoria Byrnes; brother-in-law, Roger Byrnes and wife, Pat and children; and family friend, Mary Lynn Roberto, all of Albuquerque. Freddie was a devoted father and husband. He was an active fisherman, retired journeyman electrician, retired bowler and softball and fast-pitch pitcher. Our beloved mother, "Gummy" and sister, Betty Jean Hessinger, 70, a long time resident of Santa Fe and of Belen for the past 7 years, passed away at St. Joseph Hospital on May 3, 2001. She was a secretary and assistant to Dr. Eggenhopher, Dr. Beaman, and Dr. Bell, and many other ophthalmologists in the Santa Fe area. She was a member of the Santa Fe Jaycees, Santa Fe Dog Obedience, Santa Fe Country Club, and Tierra del Sol County Club in Belen. She was an avid bowler, golfer, painter, organist, and a very loving mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray E. Hessinger in 1995; and her parents, Hayden and Valora Lindsey. Betty is survived by her wonderful daughter, Rae Lynne Crowther of Salt Lake City, Utah, and her children, John Ray McDowell, Shawna VanDeValde, and Amanda Crowther; and her two special sons, Kurt and his wife, Dolores and their children, Joshua and Justin, and Kris and his wife, Elizabeth and their boys, Daniel, Isaac, and Gabriel, all of Valencia County; her sister-in-law, Hess Morrison of Chipewa Falls, WI; and her brother, Gerald Lindsey of Long Lake, NY. Veronica B. Honaker, 85, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde C. Honaker, and her son, John C. Honaker. She is survived by daughters, Mary Beth Honaker, Martha L. Hitchcock and husband, Ron Hitchcock, Lucy MacBain, and Diane Honaker; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Veronica was a long time resident of Albuquerque, coming in 1949 as a reading consultant for Scott, Foresman and Co. She enjoyed a very successful career as an educator, specializing in the field of reading. She was one of a team of writers/editors for the "Dick and Jane Reading Series ", developed the Title I reading programs in 1965 for the Albuquerque Public Schools, and consulted nationally with school districts and reading clinics. Mother assisted many children and adults to discover the joy of literacy. Veronica was founding member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Albuquerque. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister, attending to the spiritual needs of the sick and elderly. Mother loved golf, Scrabble, and crossword puzzles worked while sitting beside a mountain stream. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 5, 2001. Final interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Marlin Charles James, 66, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marsha Y. James; daughters, Melissa A. Briggs and husband, Michael of Albuquerque and Marty Hill and husband, Gayle of Farmington, NM; grandchildren, Shelby K. Briggs, Hayley E. Briggs and Collin T. Hill; brothers, Alfred Douglas James and wife, Nancy of Amarillo, TX and Robert Norman James and wife, Linda of China Spring, TX. Marlin was a life long member of the Church of Christ and a member of Montgomery Blvd Church of Christ since 1975, where he had served as a Deacon and an Elder. He was also a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters since 1952 and was employed by the New Mexico District Council of Carpenters from 1968 until retirement in 1993. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 7, 2001, 10:00a.m. at Montgomery Blvd. Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery Blvd N.E, with Kevin Owen, officiating. Josephine Milazzo, 83, a resident of Rio Rancho passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2001. Josephine was born June 11, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York the daughter of Joseph and Lily Reggerio Amato. Josephine was married to Frank Milazzo on February 14, 1936 in New Jersey. She had been an addressograph operator for a Pharmaceutical company before retiring. Josephine liked to play Bingo and loved to crochet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank. She is survived by three children, Catherine Rioux of Florida, Anthony Milazzo of Grafton, VA, and Anne Marie Ariola of Rio Rancho, NM; one brother, Peter Amato of Hamptons, NY; and five sisters, all of New York; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held today, Saturday, May 5, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho and Sunday, May 6, 2001 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Yuma Lyle White Speed, 87, was born November 29, 1913 in Cordell, Oklahoma. She died May 2, 2001 after a long battle with diabetes. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fletcher Speed, and her parents, Hugh and Estella White. She attended Oklahoma College for Women. She had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1947. Yuma was an active member of the Duke City Bridge Club, formerly the Albuquerque Bridge Club, since the early 1950's. She and her husband had both attained the level of Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League. She was a stay-at-home mom all the years her children were growing up and at the same time kept the books for her husband's business. After the children were grown, she went to work for the Albuquerque Public Schools Cafeterias. She soon became the manager of the then new Mitchell Elementary School Cafeteria. After several years, she became a satellite manager, supervising the cafeterias in a number of schools. After retirement from APS, she cared for her husband of 50 years until his death in 1984. Over the years, she belonged to Eastern Star, Job's Daughters Advisory Board, and the Presbyterian Church. Her family, first and foremost in her life, brought her great pride. Yuma is survived by her daughter, Alice and husband, Dean Segrist; son, Jim and wife, Jane Speed; sister, Eunice and husband, Woody Lawter, Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Dr. Louis Speed and wife, Fernon, Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Scott Segrist and wife, Sandy, Clarksville, MD; Lisa Moore and husband, Jeff, Albuquerque; Dr. Ann Speed, Albuquerque; Jay Speed, Boulder, CO; great-grandchildren, Amanda and Steven Segrist, Clarksville, MD; Allison Moore, Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 5, 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria NE with Dr. John Cushman, officiating. Amalia Swarthout, 79, a resident of Albuquerque for 21 years passed away May 4, 2001 She is survived by her son; George Swarthout & his wife, Donna of Cedar Crest; and her grandchildren, John, David, Richard and Gary. Visitation will be Monday May 7, 2001 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm with a service immediately following at 6:30 p.m. in the Fern Chapel of Strong Thorne Mortuary with Chaplin Larry E. Wills officiating. Barbara Tiley, 76, a resident of Los Lunas, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001. She is survived by son, Robert Tiley of Farmington; daughters, Sue Hurford of Los Lunas and Carol Nantze and husband, John of Bosque Farms; four grandchildren, Lonnie Joplin, Kim Hurford and husband, Mike all of Tucson, AZ, Rowdy Rowley and husband, Kenny of Craig, CO and Shiloh Maxwell of Roseville, CA; two step-grandchildren, Andrea Jones and husband, Rusty of Santa Rosa, CA and John Nantze and wife, Jill of Roseville, CA; four great-grandchildren, Wrangler Rowley Joplin, Amanda Lee Mendivel, Nikki Rowley and Casey Rowley; sister, Cookie Laine and husband, Bubba of Austin, TX; two step great-grandchildren, Mellissa and John Nantze; brother-in-law, Earl Tiley and wife, Becky of Los Lunas; sister-in-law, Rowena Tiley of Belen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William 'Bill' Tiley; and two sisters. Jean Stewart Trammell, 64, a resident of Albuquerque for almost 27 years, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2001, after a courageous fight against cancer. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Lt. Commander Arthur B. (Brink) Trammell, USN (Ret.) of Albuquerque; and their two children, Page Trammell of Baltimore, MD and Brink Trammell of Dallas, TX, both formerly of Albuquerque. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Mildred Stewart of Bellaire, OH. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Albert Dix of Frankfurt, KY; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Stewart of Huntington, WV; and her nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Mrs. Wilhemina S. Goetz; her sister-in-law, Jody Guenther, and Jody's husband, Frank Guenther. Jean was born and raised in Bellaire, OH, where she graduated from high school in 1954 and subsequently attended Goucher College in Towson, MD, graduating in 1958. Jean and Brink were married in Bellaire, OH in December 1957 and spent the next twenty years in various parts of the country responding to orders issued by the Navy. During that period, she was the focal point of the family, raising the children and fulfilling other needs during the absences of her husband. In addition, she participated in Girl Scout activities, taught high-school mathematics, and volunteered in various Navy Mutual Aid Society activities. After the Navy, Jean and Brink enjoyed hiking, skiing, and traveling around the country to places of great scenic beauty and historical significance. She lived a life characterized by a style and grace obvious to all who knew her, and met every challenge with class. Jean was a wonderful wife, a devoted mother, and a steadfast friend. ADELINA MARTINEZ, 90, of Rio Chama died Thursday following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fidel Martinez; grandsons Juanito Martinez, Nick Gallegos, and Eddie Gallegos. She is survived by her children Orlando Martinez and wife Lucy of Rio Chama, Clotario Martinez and wife Susie of El Rancho, Tere Gallegos and husband Medardo of Rio Chama, Fidel Martinez Jr. and wife Rose of Hernandez, Agustine Martinez and wife Florida of El Rito, Cy Martinez of Rio Chama, Loyola Martinez and husband Candy of California, and Juan Luis Martinez and wife Louisa of Rio Chama; sisters Celia Cruz, Lugarda Quintana, both of Colorado, and Antonia Trujillo and husband Teodoro of Rio Chama; grandson she raised, Bill Martinez of Ranchitos; 35 other grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation at 4 p.m. today at the DeVargas Funeral Home in Española with a 7 p.m. devotional service. Graveside services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Cemetery in Hernandez. Funeral services for Patricia Susan Arredondo will by held Tuesday May 7, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the Palm Chapel with Chaplain Fabian Gagnon officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery with Richard Hover, Jesus Chavez, Erik Arredondo, Michael Arredondo, Glen Noehl, Fred Ruiz, Sid Ruiz, and Jacob Ruiz serving as casket bearers. The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer society. Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave. SE is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Steven Bennia of Albuquerque, NM passed away at his home on April 5th and was recently memorialized at a service at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on April 16th. Ronnie was 39. Born to Floyd and Gloria Bennia, Ronnie grew up in Brooklyn, NY, where he attended both Holy Family and St. Jude's grammar schools. He graduated from Cathedral Prep High School in 1980, and later attended Hunter College in New York City and Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in Douglaston, NY for two years. Ronnie left the comfort of New York in his early twenties and came "West," where he attended the University of Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico, later leaving for San Diego, CA, eventually returning to Albuquerque. Ronnie worked for Travelers Insurance as a senior representative, as well as holding other positions for the airlines and travel industries, the telephone company and the banking industry. His entrepreneurial spirit also popped up elsewhere -- earning money from framing pictures, refinishing furniture, shampooing carpets and DJing at local clubs, and even working to start a non-profit organization for AIDS. A second memorial service for Ronnie is planned for May 9th at St. Francis of Assisi Chaple at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Ronnie is survived by his mother, Gloria Bennia; his brothers, Warren Bennia and his wife, Eve, Anthony Bennia and his wife, Cherie; Aunts, Sylvia Upson, Ruby Rasch and LaMarse Taylor; Uncles, Stan and George Taylor, and a host of cousins, nieces and friends.
