Norma Fern Willard Millwee, 73, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, left this earth to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2001. She passed away quietly at home after many years of illness. She was born in Cromwell, OK on September 3, 1927 and spent most of her youth in OK. She moved to Phoenix, AZ at the age of 18 with her parents, where she later married and had her children. She moved with her family in 1968 to Flagstaff, AZ. and in 1972 moved to Los Lunas, NM until the time of her death. Norma spent many years researching the genealogy of her family, enjoying crochet and crafts of all kinds, traveling by RV with her husband, and in the pursuit of the color purple. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles L. and Velma O. Willard and her granddaughter, Denise L. Amuso. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Clyde Z. Millwee of Los Lunas, NM; two daughters, Leanne Grueschow and her husband, Charles of North Fond De Lac, WI, Cheryl Tandysh and her husband, Mike of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Jason and Eryke Mudd of Phoenix, AZ; Tiffany and Mathew Tandysh of Albuquerque, NM; and seven great-grandchildren. Norma is also survived by her brother, James O. Willard and his wife, Janice and family of Phoenix, AZ. All Memorial Services will take place at East Resthaven Mortuary and Cemetery at 4310 E. Southern Ave., in Phoenix, AZ. A private family viewing will take place on Friday, May 11, 2001 in the mortuary chapel from 5:00pm until 6:00pm followed by a general viewing from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Graveside Memorial Services will be held on the cemetery grounds on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 11:00am followed by her interment. Romero Funeral Home, Belen, NM in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Keller Mitchell, age 78, a former resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2001 in Aurora, CO. She was born in Knoxville, TN, August 15, 1922. Her husband of 24 years, John S. Keller; and her second husband, John Mitchell preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, John Keller and wife, Chris of Aurora, CO, Mark Keller and Fiance, Anne of Raleigh, NC; and step-daughter, Kathryn Hanson and husband, Brian of Albuquerque; brothers, Roy Shipley, Ralph Shipley and Bill Shipley of Lenior City, TN; grandchildren, Nathan Keller, Kimberly Hanson and Matthew Hanson. Gladys touched the lives of many children and staff while working as a teacher's aide at Grant Middle School. She loved the desert and wildflowers of New Mexico. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed a special relationship with her grandson, Nathan. She will be remembered by all her many friends and family for her kindness and compassion and will be missed by all.

Ciria Sanchez Montoya, 77, whose families go back to the 1600s in New Mexico, died Friday night, May 4th at Lovelace Medical center after a long illness. A native of Casa Colorada, NM she and her husband Carlos M. Montoya lived their lifetime in Albuquerque, most recently at 9112 Atkinson Place, NE. The Montoyas were married at Sacred Heart Church in 1946. Proud of her Spanish heritage, she and her husband made various trips to Spain, including the town of Valencia, the birthplace of her mother's family and Jerez de la Frontera, her father's family's birthplace. A strong advocate of education, she started at an early age by supporting her father's contribution of land and labor for Barcelona School in Armijo in the 1940s. The school named the street the school was on for her father, Jose Maria Sanchez Rd. Mrs. Montoya and her daughter, Regina D Montoya, were contributors to "Las Mujeres Hablan," a UNM book anthology of Hispanic women's writings. She also wrote "Recuerdos," a short booklet about the family's life and Spanish ways in Corrales, NM. In addition, she wrote a biography of her husband, a native of Chilili, and was supportive of her son Patrick's education from grade school, Cub Scout activities, And on to the Baylor University School of Dentistry. He now has a practice in Farmington, NM. She was an inventory management specialist in civil service at Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia Base for 30 years and received numerous awards, including sustained superior performance awards, outstanding employee awards, and suggestion award certificates. Mrs. Montoya was an active member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church for 30 years. In addition to her husband and two children, she is survived by two grandchildren: Jerry Reeder and his wife, Janet, Albuquerque and Lori Edney of Farminton; three great grandchildren, Brittany and Dannielle Edney, and Julia Reeder; five brothers, Nicolas S. Sanchez and his wife Lila, Alfred Sanchez and his wife Laura, San Marino, Calif., Jose Maria Sanchez and his wife Laura, Los Angeles, Calif., Alex Sanchez and his wife Theresa, Albuquerque, and Ernie Sanchez, and his wife Cec, Denver. Mrs. Montoya was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Maria and Ana Maria Sanchez, and her sister, Eutimia Chavez of Albuquerque. Pallbearers are: Ricardo Sanchez, Nick Sanchez, Jr., Joe Padilla, Leroy Chavez, Manuel Soto, Joe Sanchez III, and Alfred Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers are Pablo Sanchez and Mark Sanchez. The rosary for Mrs. Montoya will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Salazar and Sons Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at Our Lady of Assumption Church at Lomas and Tennessee. The time is pending. Interment will be held at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricardo Sanchez, Nick Sanchez, Jr., Joe Padilla, Leroy Chavez, Manuel Soto, Joe Sanchez III, and Alfred

Dr. James Wesslen Poukey died suddenly on May 1, 2001. He was 61 years old. James was an outstanding theoretical plasma physicist who worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 30 years. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1940, and moved to Cumberland, Wisconsin in the early 1950's, where he graduated from Cumberland High School in 1957. James went to the University of Wisconsin and received a BS in Mathematics in 1961, an MS in Plasma Physics in 1963, and a PhD in Plasma Physics in 1966. James joined Sandia National Laboratories in 1967. As a member of the Technical Staff in the Plasma Theory Division, James was one of the originators of the Pulsed Power research area. He was instrumental in developing and using the first computer codes in this area to perform numerical simulations of complex physics phenomena associated with the generation, transport, and application of intense relativistic electron beams and intense light ion beams. Throughout his career, he worked with many colleagues on a variety of projects including electron beam diodes, bremsstrahlung radiation sources, collective ion fusion, and advanced hydrodynamic radiography. He was among the first to be designated as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff (DMTS) in 1983. Throughout his career, he remained in the Plasma Theory Division, which became the Beam, Plasma, and Electromagnetic Theory Department in 1995. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 1997. He was always admired and will be long remembered for the impeccable quality of his work, his outstanding productivity, and his unforgettable dry wit. James was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He was active in NM Mensa. Other interests/studies were real and artificial intelligence, history, pool, gold, piano, classical music, and puzzles. James is survived by his devoted wife, Cathryn, and little black dog, Fido; sister Mary Hauser and husband Robert of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; sister Martha Baireuther of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; nephew Michael Baireuther and wife Monica of Phoenix, Arizona; niece Kari Rude and husband Jon of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; stepdaughter Frances Elder of San Diego, California; and stepson Paul Reed and wife Laura of Tucson, Arizona. A Memorial Celebration and Reception celebrating the life of James W. Poukey will be held at Sandia National Laboratories on Monday, May 14, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. in Area IV, Building 960, Room 113 (Call 845-7303 for information.) Reception will follow at the home of Rab Freeman and Bill Howden (Call 232-7518 for information; directions to the Reception will be provided at the Memorial Celebration.) George B. Sabine, 91 years, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2001. Cremation arrangements by Sunrise Society of New Mexico.

Hazel L. Scarbrough, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Mignon Stevens and husband, George of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Dr. Meave Stevens Dominguez and husband, Dr. Jerry Dominguez, Tracy Ingles and husband, John, Richard Stevens, and Lynne LaBeau and husband, Wayne, all of Albuquerque, NM; great-grandchildren, John Ingles Jr., Cameron Ingles, Elisa LaBeau, Holly LaBeau, Jared Dominguez, Jalen Dominguez, Trevor Stevens, and Kelsey Stevens; and one great-great granddaughter, Kayley LaBeau. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan E. Scarbrough on March 24, 1984, three sisters; and two brothers. Mrs. Scarbrough was born on November 22, 1907 in Big Hill, TX. She married Ivan E. Scarbrough on March 24, 1928 in Norton, TX. They moved to Albuquerque in 1946 where she enjoyed being very active at Fruit Avenue Baptist Church. She was a very dedicated Christian serving the needy, providing fruit baskets and beautiful roses from her garden. She loved her family and set a good Christian example for all who knew her. Vera G. Stoeltje, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Charlie A. Stoeltje; son, Clifford A. Stoeltje, both of Albuquerque; daughters, Jennie Brown of AZ, Margaret Phillips of KS and Cherl Shaffer of Salt Lake, UT; sister, Madge Buras of Grants; brothers, Floyd Caraway of Gallup and Walter Caraway of Winslow, AZ; and numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Amalia Swarthout, 79, a resident of Albuquerque for 21 years passed away May 4, 2001 She is survived by her son; George Swarthout & his wife, Donna of Cedar Crest; and her grandchildren, John, David, Richard and Gary. Visitation will be Monday May 7, 2001 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm with a service immediately following at 6:30 p.m. in the Fern Chapel of Strong Thorne Mortuary with Chaplin Larry E. Wills officiating. Devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mary Lucille "Mary Lou" Segner Thomas, 78, peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2001 at Care Free Living. She had fought a valiant 14 month battle with colon cancer. Originally diagnosed in March 2000, she was given only a few week to three months to live. Due to her daughter Debbie's vigilant and loving care, excellent treatment by the oncology department at Lovelace Hospital, and the faithful prayers of many, Mary Lou recovered sufficiently to live independently for much of the year 2000. She was also able to meet her second grandchild, who was born in September 2000. Against all the odds, she had not one, but three precious visits with her grandsons before she died. Mary Lou was born in Austin, Texas, on February 27, 1923. She was the daughter of Edmund Peter Segner and the former Elsie Grenwelge. Mary Lou was woo'd and won by Charles Milton Thomas and married him on April 17, 1948. Mary Lou served her country as a dedicated and loyal Army wife until Milt retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and the family settled in Albuquerque permanently in 1973. Mary Lou then worked as a bookkeeper at the Postal Credit Union in Albuquerque for over twelve years. Along with her husband, Mary Lou was active in The Retired Officers Association, the Association of Former Intelligence Officers, Risen Savior Quilters and other civic organizations and clubs. Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Deborah Ann Thomas, of Albuquerque; her son, Commander Brian Christian Thomas, U.S. Navy (Retired); daughter-in-law, Lisa Marie Thomas; grandsons David Milton and Garrett Christian Thomas, of Alexandria, Virginia; and her brother, Dr Edmund Peter Segner, Jr., of Birmingham, Alabama. An informal memorial celebration for Mary Lou will be held at the Crown Plaza Pyramid, 5151 San Francisco Road NE at 7 o'clock in the evening on May 10, 2001. During a private ceremony on May 11, 2001, Mary Lou's ashes will be returned to the Pecos Wilderness, where her husband Milt is currently fishing with the angels. Barbara Tiley, 76, a resident of Los Lunas, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001. Kevin Lee Walker, 36, of Chandler, Arizona, A Technician for Intel and U.S Army Veteran passed away April 30, 2001. He was born July 21, 1964 in Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Walker attended New Mexico State University where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Mr. Walker is also a graduate of the Technical Vocational Institute of Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Walker is survived by his sisters, Maryola Rebecca, Katherine Jennifer, and Laura Anne; parents, Richard and Mary Walker; uncle and aunt Carl and Louise Estep; grandmother, Ola Haefker. Michael Yellott, 21, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001. He is survived by his parents, David and Carol Yellott of Albuquerque; sisters, Meagan Yellott and Mary Yellott, both of Albuquerque; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Adams of Rocky Ford, CO; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David E. Yellott of Aurora, CO; uncles, Mike Osborn of Tucson, AZ, Mark Osborn of Lamar, CO and Stan Yellott of Aurora, CO; and aunt Kathy Forsyth and husband, Frank of Northglen, CO. ARTURO MARTINEZ, 90, of Mora died Friday following a lengthy illness. He was born March 11, 1911, to Eugenio Martinez and Matilde Chavez Martinez in Rociada. He married Ramona LeDoux on May 7, 1937, in Mora. He graduated from Menaul High School and New Mexico Highlands University. He was a rancher, businessman and owner of Arts MALCO. He also taught school for 35 years in Mora County. He was a member and elder of the Mora Presbyterian Church and president of the Cebolla Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Arthur Martinez; and grandsons James Nick Martinez, and Brian Ortega. He is survived by his wife, Ramona Martinez of Mora; children, Mae Anderson and husband Jim of Albuquerque, Margie Ortega of Mora, Roy Martinez and Ted Martinez and wife Linda, all of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Tillie Arellano, and Merlinda Gonzales and husband Tomas, all of Albuquerque; and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Mora. Funeral services at 2 p.m. today at the same church. Burial will follow at the El Carmen (Cebolla) Cemetery. ENEDINO FLAVIO MONDRAGON, 81, of Santa Fe died Thursday. He was born May 12, 1919, to Bonifacio and Eliria Cordova Mondragon in Ranchos de Taos. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II from August 1941 to October 1945. He saw military service in the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was an avid outdoorsman who deeply enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and archery. He retired following 30 years of service from the New Mexico School for the Deaf in 1979. He is survived by his wife Eliza (Marie) Mondragon; children Theresa Barela and husband Joe, Martin Mondragon and wife Loretta, Socorro Mondragon and husband Paul Forster, Nadine Blake and husband Randy, and Tom Mondragon and wife Frances; grandchildren Jerry Mondragon, Jocelyn Mondragon, Marla Gallegos, Michael Barela, Taylor Blake, and Kelly Barela; brothers, Bonifacio Mondragon and wife Vangie, and Antonino (Tony) Mondragon; sister, Florida Tafoya; in-laws, Chris and Mary Martinez, and Joe and Celia Roybal; and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Berardinelli Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the St. Anne Catholic Church. CLARA G. VALDEZ, 74, of Chamita died Thursday following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Lopez; infant daughter, Dolores Lopez; parents, Agustin and Dorotea Garcia; brother, Pete Garcia; sisters Isabel Trujillo, Alice Martinez, and Guadalupe Gallegos. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Fidel Valdez of Chamita; son, Howard Lopez and wife Carol of Espaņola; grandchildren Dolores Gallegos and husband Billy of Espaņola, and Eric Lopez of Abiquiu; great-granddaughters, Kandice and Kassie Gallegos; brother, Manuel Garcia and wife Marie; sisters Sarah Roybal, Elvira Salazar, Ruth Sanchez, all of Chamita, and Nancy Wilson of El Guache; sisters-in-law Epimenia Taylor of Salt Lake City, Lina Suazo of Oakland, Calif., and Frances Garcia of El Guache; and numerous other relatives and friends. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan Pueblo. Burial will follow at noon on Monday at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Orlando Jose Candelaria, 21, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away May 4, 2002. Orlando was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lazaro and Mary Candelaria and Elizando Coriz. He is survived by his parents, Joe and Theresa Candelaria; a brother, Aaron Candelaria; a sister, Victoria Candelaria; his grandmother, Beatrice Coriz; Uncles, Leroy Candelaria and wife, Maria, Anthony Coriz, James Coriz and wife, Denise, Alfred Coriz and Ralph Romero; Aunts, Gina Griego and husband, Ernest, Cecilia Nieto and husband, Carl, Carmen Padilla, Edwina Baca and husband, Ray, Roseanne Guzman and husband, Rodrigo; and many cousins and friends who loved and will miss him. Visitations for Orlando will be held on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Eighth Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Marian Lola Daley, 82, lost her battle with cancer and died peacefully with her family at her side on May 1, 2002. She was a resident of Albuquerque since 1948 and retired from a successful nursing career in 1988. After graduating from the Ravenswood School of Nursing, she worked at Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago, IL for 2 years, specializing in premature babies. After moving to Albuquerque, she worked with UNM Hospital for many years and was instrumental in helping set up the UNM Family Practice Clinic. She retired in 1988 and was able to travel and enjoy her weekly game of bridge until recently when her health started to fail. She is survived by her four children, Chris Karen of Albuquerque, Brent and wife Georgette of Orlando, FL, Alan and wife Carrie of Albuquerque, and Beth and husband Joe of Colorado Springs, CO.; brother, Don and wife, Nan, of Niles, MI; Aunt, Lola Reum of Albuquerque; and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth "Liz" M. Salazar Gabaldon, 54, a life long resident of Belen, passed away in an Albuquerque hospital on Thursday, May 2, 2002. She was an active member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Liz was instrumental along with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eugene and Gloria Gabaldon in the construction of the gazebo that graces Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. This gazebo is dedicated to the memory of her late husband, George P. Gabaldon. Liz and her late husband were a well-known NM business team, owning and operating Gabaldon Construction. After George's death in 1991, liz ran the family construction and development interest until her illness. She was an active member of the Democratic Party throughout the state. She actively served on the Board of Directors of TRESCO which served to help handicap individuals in all facets of their lives and their variety of needs. Also, she was a member of the Belen and Socorro Chamber of Commerce. Her wide range of interest were many but the most important to liz was her family. Her grandchildren were the light in her eyes. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George; her father, Henry Salazar in 1979; and her brother, Rod in 1983. Liz is survived by her loving son, Sean and his wife, Brenda of Belen; two wonderful grandchildren, John Connor and Christian; and her late husband's grandchildren who loved her dearly. She is also survived by her mother, Priscilla Salazar of Belen; two brothers, Henry E. of Belen; and Greg of Las Vegas, NV; her loving companion Jake Chavez of Socorro, NM; and her many loving nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and friends. All services will be held at the church that she cherished, Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. The family will be receiving guests on Sunday, May 5, 2002, 5:30pm with a rosary being recited at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 6, 2002, 10:00am. Liz will be buried next to her beloved husband at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Lydia Carbajal; Leyla Sedillo-Gallegos; Dana Gum; June Salazar; Karie Gabaldon Wood; Carla Leyba Chavez; Fran Chavez Sanchez; Gloria Perea; Jennifer Tafoya; and Marybell Tabet. Honorary pallbearers will be Salomon Mantano; Ron Tabet; Barbara Zellers; Michael Chavez; Jerry Gum; Chad Salazar; John Salazar II; Eric Sanchez; and Rick Penner. Loyd F. Goatcher Sr., 89, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died Friday, May 3, 2002. He is survived by his son, Loyd F. Goatcher, Jr.; grandchildren, Jay Goatcher and wife, Loretta, Larry Goatcher and wife, Karen, and Kelly Carmody and husband, Jeff all of Albuquerque; great-granddaughters, Jessica, Jacqueline, Kaley, and Kristye; great- grandson, Kalvin; sister, Edith Cudd of Longview, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Mr. Goatcher was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel whom he met and married in Poteau, OK in 1931. Loyd was born in Hackett, AR on June 20, 1912 and moved to OK as a young boy with his family. He was a sawmill master mechanic for International Paper, retiring in 1974. They moved to Albuquerque from McAlester, OK in 1989. Services will be held, Friday, May 10, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at the Mills Funeral Home in McAlester, OK. Interment will follow at Elemwood Cemetery, in Hartshorne, OK. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Tuesday, May 7, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice, P.O.
