Marilynn Diana Orwat received her angel wings on Monday, June 16, 2003. She died in the arms of her loving family at the ABQ Regional Medical Center Hospice Unit. Marilynn was born April 12, 1932 in Springville, NY. She is survived by her mother, Olive M. Hampton of Brigham City, Utah; her five children, David Orwat, and his wife Elvie, Elaine and her husband Dr. Robert Foreman, Sharon D. Streicher, Charles Orwat and his wife Debbie, and Keith Orwat and his wife, Debra; grandchildren, Jennifer M. At many points in her life she was cared for by her children and through the last difficult years of her life to her death she lived with her daughter Sharon and granddaughter Jennifer. Marilynn fulfilled a lifelong dream by graduating from P.A. L. Clowns and embodied "Minnie the Clown" for ten years. She worked as a bus driver for Helwig and Farmer Schoolbus Transportation Company and retired after many years from UNM School of Medicine, Dept. of Biochemistry. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sandia Palliative Care Center, 8804 Washington NE, Ste. C, 87113, where, in lieu of flowers, you can make charitable contributions. Marilynn's personal effects are being donated to victims of domestic violence. Brian T. Pardo, 42, a native of Albuquerque, and a resident of Cedar Grove, passed away suddenly. A graduate of Del Norte High School and T-VI, he was a Mechanical Technician at Sandia National Labs for 18 years. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, hunting, his horses and the company of his family and many friends. He is survived by his parents, Julio and Carol Pardo; his sisters, Karen Boyce of Shawnee, KS and Alisa Baremore of Albuquerque; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Estefanita "Estefy" Rascon, 72, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 19, 2003 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Dan "JD" Rascon; her two sons, Adrain Rascon and Eugene Rascon; three daughters, Sonia Rascon, Coeli Rascon, Varii and Gilbert Trujillo; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers, Zoriada Martinez and husband, Willie, Esperanza Gonzales and husband, Nelson, Socorro Hunt and husband, Edgar, Bertha Arnold and husband, Roger, Eduardo Baca and wife, Esther, Johnny Baca and wife, Celia; her in-laws; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, her father, Jesus Baca; mother, Magdalena Baca; and brother, Roy Baca. She was born on September 26, 1930 in El Rito, NM where she lived for 20 years. Since then, she has lived in Albuquerque. Celebrating 52 years of marriage, she was an exemplary wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. As a faithful servant in her church community, Glory Hall, she touched many lives with God's spirit. Her love for nature, traveling, gardening, sewing, reading God's word and caring for her loved ones gave her a full life. She will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. In honor and celebration of her life, her family will be saying good-bye Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Glory Hall, 2417 Wyoming Blvd. Her Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2003 at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Kenneth W. Robison passed away June 17, 2003, with his daughter, Marci and her husband, Larry Henning, at his side. He was born April 22, 1909, in Holton, Kansas. His wife, Helen, preceded him in death, August 21, 2000, after 64 years of marriage. Ken is survived by sister, Neva and husband, Therll Heiselman; sister, Mary and husband John Meier; and brother, Bob and wife, Mary Maxine Robison; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is fondly remembered as "Granddad" by Nanda, Carrie, Andie, Kathy, Conny, Katarina, Linda and Anna. Ken was a lifetime employee with the Santa Fe Railroad, serving as General Foreman at the Tie Treating Plant and Chemist upon retirement. In 1952 he and his wife became members of Central United Methodist Church where he served as president of the Friendly Bible Class, taught Sunday school classes and served as general Sunday School Superintendent over an enrollment of 1100 adults and children. In addition he served as usher in church, President of Men's Club, President of the Senior Fellowship and organization of elderly citizens; served on the Administrative Board and Finance Committee for 30 years. Upon retirement from the SFRR, he filled his time with volunteer work beginning being on the first RSVP Board that helped develop the Office of Senior Affairs Center; and was on the first Advisory Board at Palo Duro Senior Center helping to develop their first By-Laws. On August 5 1980, he was honored by being appointed Colonel-Aid-De-Camp on the Executive Staff of the State of New Mexico by acting Gov. Roberto Mondragon. The Veterans Administration honored him after 18 years and 5,000 hours of service while he was on the Executive Board of the VAVS Advisory Board at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Ken served in AARP as Chapter President, Assistant Director and then State Director. In 1988 the American Red Cross awarded him a plaque as safety volunteer of the year. He received a national award on April 9, 1989 from the American Association of Retired Persons in appreciation of outstanding service to the community and his picture hangs in the Senior Citizens
Hall of Fame. He enjoyed many years of association with the local Shriners. Mr. Tomas (Tappers) Tapia, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at the age of 56. Mr. Tapia retired from the City after 25 years of service. Dr. Robert Charles Vander Wagen (Dr. Van), 72, skilled physician, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Monday, June 16, 2003 in Bullhead City, Arizona. Born in Rehoboth, New Mexico, December 24, 1930. He spent his childhood in and around the Pueblo of Zuni, where his family has been since 1897. Rob's elementary education was spent being taught by his mother in a one-room school house in Zuni. He attended Wasatch Academy (Utah), Calvin College and Seminary, University of Michigan Medical School and University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health. He specialized in Pediatrics and Public Health. He retired in 1982 ending a career of 24 years with the USPHS, Indian Health Service and the State of New Mexico. After retirement, through writing he shared his fascination of the southwest desert with all who love her honest faces. Rob was preceded in death by his brother, Ted; his father, Simon; his mother, Wilhelmina; and his son, Robert Charles II. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty; siblings; Larry Vander Wagen, Bernice Stock, and Ethel Carey; children, Barbara Vander Wagen-Bieniewski, Ruth Garza, Claudia Delaney, Norman Vander Wagen, and Glenna Little. The grandchildren, Wendy, Jacquelyn, Rebecca, Paula, Roxanne, Jared, Rachel, Sarah, Kent, Ross, Joshua, and Caszandra. Also one great-grandchild, Courtney Jo. A multitude of friends and family will remember him for his quick wit and marvelous stories that gladdened our hearts and nourished our souls. He managed to enrich the lives of everyone he met.
