Josephine Lowe, 72, passed away June 16, 2000. She was born in LeRoy, NY, moved to Albuquerque in 1973 with her husband and children, to whom she dedicated her life. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and is survived by her husband, Albert Lowe; four sons, Lyle Lowe and wife, Robyn, David Lowe, Peter Lowe and wife, Carla, Jerry Lowe and wife, April; 11 grandchildren; sister, Rose Perry and other family and friends who loved and will miss her. A Memorial Rosary will be recited in the chapel of Direct Funeral Services at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2000. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Monday, June 19, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. with burial following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Saul "Junior" Lujan was called by our Lord to take his place in heaven on June 15 14, 2000. Saul was preceded in death by his parents Saul and Antonita Lujan his brothers, Filomeno Lujan, and Jerry Lujan, and two sisters, Tillie Lujan and Sally Sprunk. Saul is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nestorita Lujan, two daughters; Linda Brunholzl and husband Ernest, and Rosie Gonzalez and husband Ron, and a son, Saul Antonio Lujan III and wife Lilliana. Also surviving are six sisters; Helen Trujillo, Mary Serna, Portana Apodaca, Nora Kiser, Cordelia Corky George, and Gloria Sedillo, 11 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Saul was a hard worker, he had a successful floor covering business, and he enjoyed ranching. He was a loving Grandfather, passing down his traditions and values through the generations. He enjoyed singing and recording CD’s with the Los Cariñojos de Nuevo Mejico Band, a New Mexican Ranchera Band that he founded. Saul was a lifelong member of Holy Child Catholic Church, and a volunteer for the Democratic Party. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Friends may visit on Today from 5:00-7:00 at the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary, a Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 also at Alameda Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church in at 19A Camino de Santo Nino Tijeras, NM with Father John Carney Officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Gonzalez, Richard Fisher, Steve Gonzalez, Tom Gonzalez, Michael Wheat, and Douglas Serna. Dale Robert McCaslin, born July 9, 1956, passed away Monday, June 5, 2000. Formerly of Kansas City, MO, resided in Albuquerque since 1976. His parents were Curtis Eugene McCaslin and Goldie Beatrice Robinson. He is survived by his sons, Curtis Robert McCaslin and Brandon Dale McCaslin; brothers, Lyle, Steve, Eugene, and Paul; and sister, Sherri McCaslin. He was a veteran of the USAF and was a member of the NM Air National Guard. He was employed as a heating and cooling, and sheet metal worker. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services for Dale will be held Monday, June 19, 2000 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Fe, where Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Edmundo L. Padilla, 83, peacefully passed away on June 16, 2000. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. His wife, Vivian Padilla, who passed away on December 17, 1988, preceded Edmundo in death. Edmundo is survived by his 7 loving children, Daniel Padilla of Belen, Mildred Garley of Albuquerque, Eloy Padilla and his wife, Susan of Roswell, Adolph Padilla and his wife, Henrietta of Murfrees Burro, TN; Victor Padilla and his wife, Lori of Los Chavez, Eddie Padilla and wife, Joann of Belen, Michael Padilla and wife, Lillian of Belen; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Edmundo is also survived by four brothers and sisters, Roque Padilla and wife, Irene of Glendale, CA, Wilfred Padilla and wife, Marina of Pasadena, CA, Lola Sanchez of Santa Fe, NM, Valentina Sanchez and husband, Frank of Wilmington, CA; and many numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19 at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 20 at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his six sons. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

Joseph M. Pieters, 83, a resident of Albuqueque, died Thursday, June 15, 2000. He is survived by his son, Weldon Pieters and wife, Mary Jane of Port Charlotte, FL; daughter, Diane Isonhood; ex-wife and friend, Sue Olive Bernett, both of Albuqueque; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and niece, Carol Mathis of East Haven, CT. Mr. Pieters was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps. He was a beloved father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Robyn Joyce Halstead, beloved wife of Michael John Ramczyk and daughter of Kathryn M. Halstead, has passed on to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, June 16, 2000. Robyn was born in Denver, Colorado on May 23, 1960. She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Halstead of Denver, CO and three infant children. Robyn is survived by her husband, Michael J. Ramczyk; mother, Kathryn M. Halstead of Albuquerque; sister, Kathryn Anne Martinez and husband, Art Martinez; sister Jana Marie Bryan and daughter, Heather M. Bryan; aunt Ruth E. Adams, Charlotte A. Baker and husband, Leslie F. Baker; cousins, Sheryl Lynn Gibson, Holly Beth Adams, John Stephen Adams, Michael Dwight Adams, Deborah Lee McLaughlin, Alison Elise Baker; and the family of her husband Michael. Marylou & Bernie Higgins, Dan Ramczyk, Barbara Ramczyk, Stephen and Patricia Ramczyk, David and Margaret Stokiker, Joan and Kenny Lane, Becky and Kevin Markay; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Robyn was a gentle hearted, kind and generous soul that had a very deep and lasting love for all of God's creatures. Since childhood she had rescued stray dogs and cats and finding good homes for them. She had a great fondness for the elderly. She enjoyed caring for them and this was the work of her choice when physically able. Robyn attended McKinley Middle School, Del Norte High School and TVI. There after she moved to Texas for 5 years which she was employed at a National Architectural firm. Robyn will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She will never know how grateful her friends and family were for her presence in their lives. We were honored by the privilege of knowing and loving her. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions be made to the Animal Humane Society and the Lupus Foundation.

Mr. Timothy Allen Sarracino, 48, a resident of Laguna, NM passed away on June 16, 2000. Mr. Sarracino is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Christine; his daughter, Tina Louise Sarracino; his son, Steven Lucas; his mother, Mrs. Bernice Sarracino; grandchildren, Kyleen Shroulote, Miranda Lucas and Stevie Lucas Jr.; his sister, Judith (Judi) Douma and husband, Nolan; five brothers, Dominic Sarracino and wife, Christine, Michael Sarracino, Lawrence (J.B.) Sarracino Jo., Matthew Sarracino and Patrick Sarracino; many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Mrs. Sarracino was past treasurer for Laguna Pueblo and was serving as a Tribal Councilman. He was the G.E.D. director for the Department of Education and was very involved with the Democratic Party and served as a board member of various committees in the community. A Rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the family home in Laguna. The family will be receiving friends after 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Laguna, NM. Joe Louis Silva "Cuate", 68, passed away June 17, 2000 surrounded by his loving family. A resident of Albuquerque, he was born in Socorro, New Mexico to the late Juanita La Grange Silva and Juan Donicio Silva. He was a medic in the Korean War, retired from Sandia Base, and was preceded in death by his twin brother as an infant. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary of 49 years; son, John Louis Silva; three daughters, Sarah Martinez, Mary Lou Martinez and husband, Ronnie, Gina Tafoya and husband, Ryan; grandchildren, Joseff, Brandi, Angela, Rico, Stefanie, Andrea, Reve, and Felicia; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jazmin, Diego, and Alexis; two brothers, Mike Silva and wife, Betty, Albert Silva and wife, Emma; four sisters, Viola Rodriguez, Delia Trujillo, Emerlinda Monget and husband, Tony, Mary Rose Gonzales and husband, Joe; and numerous other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2000. Irene Loma Sutherland, 92, a resident of Albuquerque for over 30 years, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000. She was the 7th child born to the late Samuel and Katherine Jones. Mrs. Sutherland is survived by her nieces, Joyce Carnes of Detroit, MI, Audry Millicent Wood and husband, Henry of Kansas City, KS, Loma McKinnon and husband, Raymond of Edison, NJ, Brenda Williams of Bronx, NY, and Naomi Boyd of Atlanta, GA; and nephew, Robert Jones of Mechanicsville, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barrington Sutherland. Mrs. Sutherland was a member of the Bethesda Seventh Day Adventist Church, and was a strong believer in Jesus Christ. She retired from the State of New York as a social worker after 25 years. Services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Francis "Red" Vieth, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938, died Friday, June 16, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elaine Vieth of the family home; sons, Mark Vieth and wife, Gerlinde of Las Cruces, Edward Vieth and wife, Della of Albuquerque and Thomas Vieth of Sandia Park; and grandchildren, Daniel and Jennifer Vieth, both of Sandia Park and Melisa and Gabriel Pacheco, both of Albuquerque. Mr. Vieth graduated from UNM in 1948 and served in the US Army in the Pacific during WWII. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel. Mr. Vieth was interested in genealogy and volunteered at the Mormon Family History Center. He was a Shriner and had worked in the CCC. Services will be held Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. Kathryn E. Wagner, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for 39 years died Friday, June 9, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Rodillas and husband, Alex; son, Arthur Wagner and wife, Corinne; son, Thomas Wagner and wife, Carol; daughter, Kathy Esquivel; daughter, Maggie Wilds and husband, Harvey; and son, Tony Wagner and wife, Janet; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, John and Lawrence Tobin; and her sister, Mary. Ernest F. Byers, Sr., a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died on Friday, June 15, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Irene Byers; daughters, Rosalie Carver and husband, Robert of Peralta and Lilly Reynolds and husband, Wayne of Bosque Farms; sons, Ernie Byers, Daniel Byers and wife, Cathy and Steve Byers all of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren, Ambir and Ryan Barney, Marlene and Billy Reynolds and Christopher Segura, Scooter and Cody Reynolds, Ernie and Jennifer Byers, Sonja and Kimberley Byers and Steven and Thomas Byers; three great-grandchildren, Clinton and Katie Reynolds and Ashley Luna; sisters, Geneva Martinez and husband, Jim of Santa Fe and Lena Mae Meagher of Albuquerque and brothers, Jack Byers and wife, Celine of Santa Fe, Joe Byers and wife, Lida of Albuquerque and Billy Byers and wife, Josie of Albuquerque. Ernest was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and Elder at Trinity Lutheran Church. He also served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Cremation has already taken place. Dr. Carl E. "Bill" Cords, Jr., 68, died at home on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 after a long illness with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy Cords; daughter, Lisa McGuire; son, John Cords and wife, Lori; grandsons, Cody J. Broyles and Shaun Thompson; sister, Dorothy Hilpert and husband, Norman; brothers, Bruce Cords and wife, Gerda and Randy Cords and wife, Bonnie; nieces, Debbie Anderson and Nancy Conwell; nephews, Erick, Kevin, Michael and James Cords; cousin, Irene Schmitz; and Goddaughter, Donna Duda and husband, George. Carl was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School, Arizona State University, and then completed his Ph.D. at the University of Washington in Microbiology. He moved to Albuquerque with his wife, Nancy, in September 1964 where he completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of New Mexico Medical School and went on to be an Associate Professor of Microbiology there for the next 30 years until his retirement. Carl was a member of both the American Association of Virology and the American Association of Microbiology. He and his best friend, Dr. Thomas Baker, were avid golfers and University of New Mexico Lobo fans. Carl was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. The family would like to thank their special friends, Dr. Thomas Baker and wife, Georgeanna, Alice-Ann Klinger, Celia Richardson and Rande A. Broyles and his family for their devotion and help. James Lee "Jimmy" Green, age 34, died on June 13, 2001. He moved to Albuquerque from Amarillo, TX two years ago. He was preceded in death by his wife, July Green in 1996 and is survived by his mother, Shirley Stringer and step-dad, Larry of Albuquerque; his father, James Westmoreland of Amarillo; a son, Chris of Amarillo; and a brother, Miguel Green of Albuquerque. Also surviving are several half brothers, and half sisters; six aunts; four uncles; two grandmothers; a grandfather; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. Jimmy enjoyed cooking and had been a chef for ten years. He loved working on cars, especially Cadillacs. As a Mama's boy, and proud of it, he loved being part of a family bound together in love and always had a smile for everyone he met. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, June 18, 2001 in the Chapel of Sandia, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Byron Holton, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, choose to be with God on June 15, 2001, after a long battle with lung cancer, which was caused by smoking. He was 62. Byron began his career in broadcasting in 1960 as a rock-n-roll DJ in Gallup at KYVA under the name of Jerry Jet Jackson. Byron also did play by play sports for the Farmington Scorpions, Gallup Tigers (Bengals), Baytown, Texas Ganders and sideline reporting for Lobo football. Additionally, he was a member of the Lobo Club and an avid Lobo football and basketball fan. Byron was a real estate broker and partner in Broadcast Realty. He has been a member of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors since 1971. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Claudette Ponto Holton, originally from Gallup; daughter, Jeri Uhlmansiek and husband, Michael, of Albuquerque; sons, Roger Holton and wife, Kristin, of Lake Forest, IL, and Dan Holton and wife, Laura, of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Steve, Lori, Joseph, Olivia, and Elizabeth; brothers, Don Holton, Richard Holton of Severville, TN, and Willis Holton and wife, Gayle, of Camden, AR; and sister, Carolyn Etheridge and husband, Carlton, of Severville, TN. A Prayer Service and video tribute will be conducted on Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Mary Trudell, reciting. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Father Richard Olona, Celebrant. Donald King, 73, born November 25, 1927, and a resident of Artesia, NM, for over 40 years, was taken home to be with his Lord Jesus after a lengthy illness at his home June 16, 2001. A four year resident of Albuquerque, he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nona Beth King; children, Michael King of Alamogordo, Brenda Snodgrass and husband, Don Snodgrass of Wichita Falls, TX and Cindy King-Cordova of Albuquerque; sister, Eunice Norwood of Artesia, NM; grandchildren, Craig, Clark, and Beth Snodgrass, Daniel Dixon and Anna Cordova. He served with the US Army from 1945-1947 as a paratrooper and worked as a welder for Amax Potash for 33 years. He was an honorable husband, father, brother, and friend. He fought the battle with courage, kindness, humility and humor. He lived out his faith and trusted God. Services will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at Northdale Baptist Church, 123 Osuna Rd. NW with Pastor Ronald W. Mansdoerfer officiating. Friends may visit Northdale Baptist Church Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Doris (Dee) Mager, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy illness. She was born July 1, 1925 in New York City to Florence and William Freiman. She is survived by Hy Mager, her husband of 53 years; daughter, Karen Mager and fiancé, Chuck Baker; son, Steve Mager and wife, Lisa; and three granddaughters, Lauren, Julianne and Meghan. Doris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had a very special love for all animals especially her dog, Carmel. Doris was the co-founder of Dee's Cheesecake Factory with her husband and continued working there until her illness last year. Doris was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel. The family wishes to give special thanks to her nurse, Carol Ifverson, and Presbyterian Hospice, in particular Janis Mount and Rose. Services will be held at Congregation B'nai Israel, 4401 Indian School RD. NE, 87110, on Monday, June 18, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. with Rabbi Isaac Celnik officiating. Charles Alfred Montgomery, age 29, passed away June 14, 2001. He was born May 20, 1972 in Saigon, Viet Nam. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thai Tan Montgomery, on November 9, 1979. He is survived by his parents, George Montgomery and wife, Bette, Tucson, AZ, and Rosemarie Anderson and husband, Jeffrey Lee Anderson, San Antonio, Texas; four brothers, Steve Montgomery and wife, Gaylene, Belle Plain, Kansas, Roger Lynn Anderson, Richard Noel Anderson, and Redmond Craig Anderson, all of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Susan Reeves of Albuquerque, NM, Teresa Drummond and husband, Robert, Bradford, PA, and Sharon Long and husband, Dennis, Lovington, NM; and seven step-brothers and sisters, living in the Portland area of Oregon; one aunt, Susie N. Le, Phoenix, AZ; and one cousin; three nieces and four nephews. Mr. Montgomery had lived in Albuquerque, NM for the last ten years. He enjoyed spin rod fishing and going to Elephant Butte lake. He also enjoyed cooking, especially barbecue, but was adept at doing anything in the kitchen. He enjoyed watching football, just not Dallas. He hated shopping, but enjoyed Asian cuisine. A stranger is just a friend he hadn't met yet. He was a real people person who shared everything he had, down to his last dollar. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Rosary for Manuel Mora will be held Monday evening at Our Lady of Guadalupe, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services for Mr. Mora will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Joel Gonzales, Jr., John F. Mary A. Niles, 98, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Monday, June 11, 2001. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dolores L. Niles of Belen; grandsons, John A. Niles and wife, Katherine of Cheyenne, WY and Christopher S. Niles and wife, Nancy of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Linda J. Niles of Laramie, WY; and great-grandchildren, Nicholes and Kerri Niles of Cheyenne, WY, Jordan Niles of Dallas, TX and Kyle White of Laramie, WY. Mrs. Niles was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Niles; and son, John A. Niles. Mass will be celebrated Monday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Francis Cathedral, 131 Cathedral Pl, Santa Fe, NM. Interment will take place at 11:30 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John A. Niles and O.J. Metzgar. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Sandia Hospice, 4725 Indian School Rd. NE, 87110. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Lugarda Portillos, age 92, passed away June 15, 2001 in Albuquerque. Lugarda was formerly of Springer, NM. She is survived by her sons, George Gonzales of Albuquerque, NM, Robert Portillos of Springer, NM, Albert Portillos of Albuquerque, NM, Louis Portillos of Springer, NM, Joe Portillos of Springer, NM and Gilbert Portillos of Albuquerque, NM; also by 24 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Erlinda Cordova and Antonia Portillos. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001 in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. A Rosary will follow and be recited by Deacon Rue White at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001 at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2001 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church at the corner of Tennessee and Lomas with Fr. Luis Jaramillo officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ciprano Portillos, Mark Portillos, Matthew Portillos, Josephine Garcia, Lila Martinez, Gregg Portillos, and George Gonzales. Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave. SE is in charge of her arrangements.

Laura A. Pulice, a resident of Albuquerque for 10 years, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Laura Brunt of Albuquerque, Mary Covington of Ridgecrest, CA; sons, John Pulice of Ft. Worth, TX, Dennis Pulice of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren, Nancy Glisch, Charles Brunt, Kelly Brunt, Robin Brunt, all of Albuquerque, Mark Pulice of Dallas, TX, Joe Pulice of Vermont, Stacie Reeves of Arlington, TX, Lisa Pulice of Dallas, TX, Gina Pulice of San Francisco, CA, Randy Covington of Alabama, Neil Covington of Sacramento, CA, and Laurie Covington of Santa Barbara, CA; 11 great-grandchildren. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, John Pulice. Memorial Services will be held at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Carlsbad, NM. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements by French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.

Mary Sostena Romero, age 92, passed away in Albuquerque, Friday morning, June 15, 2001. She is survived by one half sister, Erlinda Cortez, Oceanside, CA; two nieces, Tommy Burns, West Sacramento, CA, Marianta Lieurence, Albuquerque; one nephew, L. Robert Thomas of Albuquerque. She was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Order of Nuns of Colorado. She was a laboratory technician in Albuquerque for many years. Graveside Services will be held Tuesday morning, June 19, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The arrangements for Mary Sostena Romero are under the direction of Fitzgerald Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE.
