Alice R. Rowe, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, June 16, 2003 after a illness. She is survived by her sons, Robert D. Rowe and wife, Beverly of Rio Rancho and Joseph Richard Rowe and wife, Lorraine of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Roberta Rowe, Lisa Rowe and Leilani Graston; grandsons, Mark Rowe, Michael Rowe and Stephen Rowe; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephew. Rosary will be recited Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Rowe, Stephen Rowe, Mark Rowe, Leonard Decker, Hugo Benadette and Grady Clark. Hattie T. Sewell, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1940, died Sunday, June 15, 2003. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Etta Rae Sewell, of Albuquerque; grandsons, Rex Sewell and wife, Barbara, of Albuquerque, and Randal Sewell and wife, Gina, of Las Cruces, NM; granddaughter, Patti Miller and husband, Bill, of Gallup, NM; five great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, one nephew and many friends at Three Fountains Apartments. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Sewell, in 1987 and her son, Weldon Sewell in 2000. Mrs. Sewell was born in Salem, KY on October 24, 1911. Her father moved the family to the Estancia Valley in the early 1900's where she lived until moving to Albuquerque in 1940. Mrs. Sewell was a member of the Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters and Central United Methodist Church. Services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Dr. Charles Crutchfield, officiating. Interment will follow at Estancia Cemetery. Emile Speyrer, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, died on Friday, June 13, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine Speyrer of Albuquerque; two daughters, Linda Carol Haas and husband, Dennis of Albuquerque and Patricia Ann Graves and husband, Thomas of Los Alamos; five grandchildren, Matthew and Jana Haas and Adam, Melissa and Benjamin Graves; three brothers, Robert Speyrer of Leonville, LA, Henry R. Speyrer and wife, Sue of Woodland, TX and John Speyrer of Metarie, LA; and two sisters, Mary Stelly and husband, Daniel of Opelousas, LA and Edna Mae. Begnaud and husband, Jr. of Lafayette, LA. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Speyrer. Mr. Speyrer was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Mountain Bell Telephone in 1983 after more than 35 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Retirees. Mr. Speyrer had been a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church and had served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as financial secretary. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, 2532 Vermont NE, with Father Ronald L. Bruckner, Celebrant. Paul E. Stagner, 62, a resident of Reserve, NM passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2003. He was a founding member of the Reserve Sportmans Association, a member of the NRA, and served in the U.S Navy. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved anything to do with his beloved mountain. He was also an avid gun collector and loved shooting all kinds of firearms. Paul owned and operated Paul's Garage and Welding in Reserve for over 13 years retiring in 2002. He loved backpacking into the mountains especially with his family. His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to be with them. Greeted in eternal life by his biological parents, Edward Clark and Ila Stevens; his parents, Bill and Pearl Stagner; his son, Paul Edwards Jr.; stepfather and grandfather to his children, Clarance Stevens; and one sister, Mildred Hutcherson. Paul is survived by his loving companion, Mary Clark of Reserve; all her loving family; three children, Jacquelien and her husband, Mike Swindle of Reserve; Angelien and her husband, Darrrel O'Neal of Silver City, NM; Arthur Vanlyle Stagner and his wife, April of Silver City; five grandchildren, Jacob Paul Swindle; Jerry Lee O'Neal; Cody Ryan Stagner; McKenzie Rose O'Neal; and Tesleigh Madison Stagner; three brothers, George "Sonny" Clark and his wife, Cece of Silver City; James Stevens and his wife, Janis of Agila, AZ; and Gene Clark and his family; and a brother-in-law, Van Hutcherson of Belen. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the Reserve Community Center on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 11:00am. Ralph J. Trice of Hobbs, NM was born October 3, 1924 in Littlefield, TX. He served in WWII in the South Pacific, returning as Sergeant Ralph Trice with a Merit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Infantry Combat Badge, Proficiency Award and three battle stars. He led an infantry division of 11 men. He married Ruth Marie Alldredge, a high school biology teacher from Plainview, TX on March 22, 1946. They were married in Lubbock, TX. The couple had been married 57 years. He obtained his Bachelors Degree from West Texas State College, and a Masters Degree from Easter New Mexico University. He held an administrative teaching certificate in Texas, coached and taught History in Roaring Springs, TX, Denver City, TX and Hobbs, NM for 35 years. He was named Teacher of the year in Hobbs in 1982, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from Artesia Car Enthusiasts in 2003, and was honored by Mainstreet Hobbs 2003 for volunteer service. His hobby for more than 50 years was restoring antique cars. One of his restorations was selected as a national winner at a show in Dallas, TX. He received more than 50 awards for his cars at car shows including quality restoration awards, Judge's Choice, Mayor's Choice and Businessmen's Choice. He served as tour chairman for the New Mexico Antique Auto Tour on five occasions and helped area organizations organize car shows for charity for more than ten years. He was a member of Antique Automobile Club of America, Model A Ford Club of American, Roadrunner Car Club, Hobbs Chaparral Kiwanis and First United Methodist Church. He served in the 1980's on a task force for the city of Hobbs and volunteered with Hobbs August Nights. He is survived by Ruth Marie Alldredge Trice, his wife of Hobbs; Judy Hanna, his daughter of Hobbs; Bill Trice, his son of Denver City, TX; John Trice, his son of San Jose, CA; three sisters, Murrell Cooper of Hobbs, Kathryn Wilson of Hobbs, and Barbara Wilder of Denver City, TX; brother, Donald Trice of Jal, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Scott Mulkey of Dallas, TX, Debbie Perrin of Lovington, NM, Cindy Trice of Hobbs, Jordan Trice of Flagstaff, AZ and Hank Trice of Dallas, TX; and two great-grandchildren, David Perrin and Alec Martinez. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph O. Trice of Denver City, TX; mother, Maybell Brown Trice of Denver City, TX; brother, Calvin R. Marshall Brian Walker, 63, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2003, after a long battle with COPD. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Julie Walker; his loving daughter, Leah Kirk and son-in-law, Scott Kirk of Columbus, GA; his special son, Donnie Walker and daughter-in-law, Donna of Albuquerque; and his precious grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren Kirk of Columbus, GA. Brian was born in Santa Rita, NM, along with his twin brother, Lance. In addition, he is also survived by his dear mother, Virginia Walker; his twin brother, Lance Walker and wife, Sandra; his sisters (also twins), Sandra Rockwell and husband, Phil and Karen Wilder and husband, Don, all of Albuquerque; and many close relatives and friends. He had a deep love for his family and his country and served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and the US Army, having been awarded a Bronze Star Medal. We are all very blessed to have had Brian as a part of our lives. Private family services will be held at a later date at the NM Veterans' Memorial Park. Edward "Paul" Weiss, U.S. Army Lt. Colonel (Retired), 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died on Friday, June 13, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; son, Garry Weiss and wife, Roxanne; daughter, Karen Taylor and husband, Tom; grandchildren, Steven Taylor and wife, Karen, Lisa Taylor Pollack and husband, Dave, Michael Taylor and wife, Mishele, Julie Weiss Lugo and husband, Edward, Christopher Weiss and Edward Pual Weiss, II; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Jeanne Weiss in 1953. Paul was born on Monday, April 14, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York, to Frederick P. and Hazel E. Weiss. He had a long distinguished career in the United States Army. Paul was a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a very patriotic man, dedicating his life to the service of his country. Paul received the Purple Heart during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a longtime member of Bear Canyon Senior Citizens Center, volunteering many teaching hours and enjoying square dancing and ballroom dancing. He was great lover of music and passed that love to his children and grandchildren. Paul will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. STEVEN PHILLIP RODARTE, 35, of Taos, died Monday. He is survived by his parents, Ray and Janice Rodarte; brother, Joseph Rodarte; grandparents, Julio and Mary Rodarte of Rodarte; and many other relatives and friends. JOSE (JOE) O.A. GONZALES, 76, of Santa Fe, died Sunday at St. Vincent Hospital with his family by his side. He was the owner of Veteran's Barber Shop and a longtime barber, businessman and resident of Santa Fe. Veteran's Barber Shop was named to show his pride in his World War II services. He was a member of St. Francis Cathedral and served the church as an usher for 37 years. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Isidro Gonzales, Raymond Gonzales and John Gonzales; sisters, Eloida Gutierrez and Beatrice Perea; brothers-in-law, Secundino Montoya, Edward Perea Sr. and Celedon Gutierrez; sisters-in-law, Tessie Gonzales and Alice Gonzales; and parents, Maria Nolan and Jose Oliverio Gonzales. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vangie M. Gonzales; daughter, Olinda Hodges and husband Steve; sons, Joe R. Gonzales, Anthony P. Anthony Abeyta Jr., 55, a resident of La Puebla, New Mexico, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 1999, from injuries received in an accident at home. Mr. Abeyta was a past member of the Caballeros de Oņate; EVCA Little League and Basketball Coach, Boy Scout Troop Leader, Holy Cross Basketball Coach, and Holy Cross School Board. Mr. Abeyta also served on the Santa Fe County Zoning Commission and served as a Santa Fe County Magistrate Judge. He was the owner of Anthony's Orthodontic Lab, which was established in 1970. Mr. Abeyta was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Luisa Abeyta; two brothers, Leroy and Arnold; one sister, Lucille; grandparents, Teofilo and Maria Abeyta, Juan and Chonita Sandoval. He is survived by his wife, Pita Abeyta of the home; his five children, Curtis Abeyta, Linus Abeyta, both of La Puebla, Brandon Abeyta of Albuquerque, Felicia Abeyta and LeeRoy Abeyta, both of La Puebla; two grandchildren, Adriana and Andru Abeyta. Nicholas "Nick" Candelaria, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974, died Monday, June 14, 1999. He is survived by his sons, Robert D. Candelaria and wife, Mollie of Tucson, AZ and Albert Candelaria of Lakewood, CA; daughters, Marcella LeFlore and husband, Virgil of Bosque Farms and Estella Garcia and husband, Napoleon of Albuquerque; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Charlotta Lovato and husband, Saturnino and Anne Smail, all of Albuquerque; and brother, E.E. Tim Candelaria and wife, Evelyn of Las Vegas, NV. Mr. Candelaria was preceded in death by his wife, Terrie Candelaria. He attended Mountainair High School; graduated from El Rito Normal School; graduated from St. Joseph's College on the Rio Grande; received his Master's degree from Eastern New Mexico University and completed course work towards a Doctorate. During WWII, Mr. Candelaria moved to Tucson to work in the defense industry. Mr. Candelaria was an educator for 40 years, teaching in classes from one room school houses to Universities. He was inducted into the New Mexico Teachers Hall of Fame. Mr. Candelaria briefly worked as the Torrance County Assessor. He was a published author, writing primarily about Spanish tradition, proverbs and culture. Mr. Candelaria was a former member of Our Lady of Sorrows in Manzano, NM and had currently been a member of St. Therese Little Flower Church in Albuquerque. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His greatest joy was teaching and was most happy when "his" students achieved a higher education and when they became good upstanding and successful members of their communities. Fred W. Carpenter, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1936, died Saturday, June 12, 199. He is survived by his son, Keith Carpenter and wife, Toni of Placitas; daughters, Gail Ritchie and husband, Jim of Atascadero, CA and Christine Carpenter of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Terry Green and husband, Dave of Somerset, CA, Cathy McRory and husband, Larry of San Angelo, TX and Kim Carpenter of Placitas; grandson, Bill Ritchie and wife, Becky of Atascadero, CA; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Carpenter worked 31 yeas for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and served as Acting State Supervisor at the time of his retirement in 1972. Ray Crowner, 58, born and raised in Denver, CO, and was a current resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, June 14, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Bessy Crowner; daughter, Kimberly Mariana Crowner; son, Daniel Lee Crowner, all of Albuquerque; and mother, Virginia Doze of Ennis, MT. He was preceded in death by his father, John Crowner; and step-father, Kenneth Doze. He was employed by E.D. Etnyre Co. for the past eight years as a district manager for six states and was regarded as a very hard worker. Mr. Crowner was a loving and caring husband, father and a good son. He also was a good friend for those who had the opportunity to know him. Ray was a member of New Mexico Covenant Church. Frances Rita Duffy died Friday night, June 11, 1999. She died in her own home in her own bed surrounded by a large extended family who loved her very much. She was 84 years old. Marcelo F. Gallegos, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife, Romey Gallegos; son, Eddie Gallegos; and grandson, Randy Gallegos. Mr. Gallegos is survived by his sons, Richard Gallegos and wife, Kendra of Burwell, NE and Tommy Gallegos and wife, Janet of Farmington; daughters, Patricia Gallegos and Mary Segura and husband, Clyde, all of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Mary Gallegos of Albuquerque; his friend, Edward Gurule of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters; one brother; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. He was a member of the Carpenter's Local Union #1319. Mr. Gallegos was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Sam A. Gonzales, 37, passed away June 14, 1999. He was a loving husband and father. Sam was preceded in death by his father, Manuel B. Gonzales; and brother, Manuel B. Gonzales Jr. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Jaramillo Gonzales and children, Herminio, Jade and Sean, all of the family home in Albuquerque; mother, Benita A. Gonzales; brothers, Ramon A. Gonzales, Aurelio A. Gonzales, Gabriel Gonzales and wife, Christine; sister, Anna Maria Gonzales and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, family and friends who loved and will miss him very much. Funeral services will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church in Grants, NM, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 1999. Mrs. Rosalia V. Gutierrez, 56, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on June 15, 1999. Mrs. Gutierrez is survived by her three sisters, Lucy Garcia of Clayton, NM, Elsie Garcia and husband, Cres, and Helen Trujillo; a special friend, Juan Chavez; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Gutierrez was a member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Thursday morning, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, with visitation at the church after 10:00 a.m. Lucy and Elsie will recite the Rosary. Dorothy Ann Hale, 49, of Albuquerque, died on June 16, 1999 at Ladera Nursing Center after a long illness. She is survived by her sister, Carol Van Ooyen; brother, Richard Hale and his wife, Sue and their children, Jimmy, Bobby, and Caitlin; niece, Paula White and husband, Lee and their children, Olivia, Geoffrey, Hayley, Jazmin; nephew, Tim Van Ooyen and his wife, Liz and their children, Jareb, Hunter and Allen. Cremation has taken place with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th NW, 343-8008.

Ulis B. Kelly, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, passed away June 13, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Kelly of 51 years; two sons, Dr. Robert Kelly and wife, Claudia; granddaughter, Kristin of Albuquerque, David Kelly of Bakers Field, CA; two daughters, Elisabeth Kelly of St. Augustine, FA and Patty Kious of Albuquerque; brother, John L. Kelly and wife, Pauline of Carson City, NV; sister, Geraldine Kennedy and husband, Clifford of West Monroe, LA; and sister-in-law, Opal Kelly. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Victor and Veston Kelly. Mr. Kelly retired from the U.S.A.F. in 1967 with 30 years of service. He worked at UNM South Golf Course as pro shop Supervisor for 12 years. He was a member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper Ave. NE. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to the La Mesa Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 7401 Copper Ave. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.

Maxine Lahr, age 89, a resident of Albuquerque for 68 years, died June 13, 1999. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 17, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fern Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, with Larry Pierson officiating. Yolanda Turrieta Lang. The dancer took her final bow on Wednesday, June 16, 1999 after a short ravaging bout with cancer and its treatments. Surviving is Yolanda's husband, Bob and their children and a large number of family, friends, and fans. She loved them all and we all loved her. Her musician friends sent her out with beautiful renditions of the music that was her passion. The family requests memorial contributions may be made in Yolanda's name to the Women's Guild of San Antonito Mission Church, c/o Holy Child Parish, P.O. Box 130, Tijeras, NM 87059 to thereby continue the Guild's good works. Her cremated remains will be place at San Antonito Mission Church where she will always be surrounded by love. Memorial Rosary will be recited Thursday, June 17, 1999, 7:00 p.m., at San Antonito Catholic Mission, just north of the Crest Road and Highway N14, with Deacon Jose Escandon reciting. Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 18, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at San Antonito Catholic Mission, with Fr. John Carney, Celebrant. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.

Mike Lovato, 75, a resident of Bernalillo, passed away Sunday, June 13, 1999. Mike enjoyed carpentry work, going out to the ranch, hunting, and loved to watch wrestling. His parents, Florencita and Delfin Lovato preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary of the family home; two daughters, Ann and husband, Danny, and Thelma; eight sons, Pat and wife, Evelyn, Albert and wife, LeAnn, David and wife, Doloris, Peter, Martin and wife, Olga, Mike Jr. and wife, Monica, Louie, and Arnold; his brothers, Adan, Noe and wife, Dora, Primetivo "Tivo" and wife, Erlinda, Delfin, Mosimo, Dickie and wife, Ruth Lopez; his sisters, Erlinda and husband, Ralph, Lucille and husband, Joe, Cora, Emelia, Flora and husband, Severo, and Evan; 34 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Lovato will be held at Riverside Chapel in Bernalillo from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 16. Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, at Our Lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m., also at Our Lady of Sorrows with Father Vigil officiating. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home of Bernalillo, 771-1112.

Clovis Otero, 77, went to be with our Lord on June 15, 1999. Clovis was born May 29, 1922 in El Cerro, NM, where he resided most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tillie; an infant son and an infant daughter; his parents, Manuel and Francisquita Otero; a sister, Adela Martinez; and brother, Manuel Otero Jr. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou and husband, Ernest Sanchez; three sons, Wilfred and wife, Claire, Ralph and wife, Katie, and Armando; grandchildren, Desiree, Mario, Vanessa, Dominic, Andrea, Arlin, Armand, Feliciano, Maya and Elias; great-grandchildren, Luis, Nathan, Gabriel and Joseph; two brothers, Lorenzo and wife, Lillian, Tony and wife, Mela; two sisters, Socorro and husband, Bernie Vallejos, Marie and husband, Joe Chiwiwi; sister-in-law, Viola Otero; and aunt, Antonia Perea. A Rosary will be held at the Romero Funeral Home in Belen on June 17 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, NM on June 18 at 10:00 a.m. Attending pallbearers are Cecilio Martinez, Albert Perea, Robert Otero, Ted Otero and Loren Otero.
