Manuel G. Baca, age 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother was welcomed into the arms of the Lord our Savior, Thursday, June 12, 2003, while surrounded by his loving family. Manuel was a long time resident of Alameda. He was well known in the north valley by the nickname of "Mangas"; for his sense of humor; and his work in plastering homes. Manuel was a parishioner and usher at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Atanacio and Maria Baca; a grandson, Albert Baca; a granddaughter, Randi Nicole Baca; brother, Jake Baca; and sisters, Katherine Garcia, Melitona Baca, Rita Branch, Mauricia Salazar; and daughter in law, Margaret Baca. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Portana Baca of the family home; his children, Alex Baca, Priscilla Trujillo and husband Jose, Maida Cordero and husband Morris, Olivia Cotinola and husband Roy, Fidel Baca, and Randy Baca and wife Addie; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Louie Baca and wife Rosalie; three sisters, Sally Aragon, Millie Wofford and husband Tracy, and Natalie Chavez; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitations will be Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final viewing will be Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Julian Baca, Alex Baca, Ruben Trujillo, Andrew Trujillo, Vincent Trujillo, Morris Cordero, Jr., Christopher Cotinola and Nicholas Baca. Honorary bearers will be his granddaughters, Debra Baca, Agnes Gonzales, Doris Dimas, Linda Romero, Stephanie Cotinola, and Angela Cotinola. Funeral Services are entrusted to:

Pamela Baggette, 58, of Granbury, TX. A Memorial Service was held at the First Baptist Church in Granbury. Mrs. Baggette died Sunday, May 4, 2003 in Dallas. She was born July 27, 1944 to Jerre and Richard Moore in Dallas. She graduated with honors from University of New Mexico. For 20 years she was an Educational Tour Specialist with WorldStrides, a national student tour company. She is survived by her husband, Larry Baggette of Granbury; her mother and stepfather, Jerre and Wayne Bowles of Santa Fe, NM; sons, Jeffrey and Colby Kraybill of California and Kevin Kraybill and his wife, Bonnie of Albuquerque; stepdaughter, Kelly Baggette of California; and grandson, Daniel Kraybill of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. Pamela Baggette was truly a "Lady ".

Helen Baker, 79, a resident of Albuquerque died Monday, May 26, 2003. She is survived by her sons, Michael J. Baker and wife, Libby of Arlington, TX and Jeffrey S. Baker and wife, Cheryl of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Courtney Love and husband, Stephen of Sherman, TX, Brian May and Jamie May of Tulsa, OK; and great-granddaughter, Mary Frances Love. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Major General Merton W. Baker; and her sister, Marion Hanson. She faithfully supported her husband during his career in the US Air Force. Mrs. Baker attended Milton College in Milton, WI. She was lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Ft. Atkinson. Mrs. Baker was a passionate bridge player. Joseph Richard (Dick) Baldwin died June 11, 2003 at the age of 73. He was born on September 26, 1929 in New Jersey, and has been a resident of Albuquerque for 34 years. He is survived by his spouse, Janet Baldwin of Albuquerque; a daughter, Terri Palacio and son-in-law, Ivan of Rio Rancho NM; a son, Alan Baldwin and daughter-in-law, Della Baldwin both of Gulf Port, MS; a son, Jeff Baldwin and daughter-in-law, Tina Baldwin of Los Lunas N.M. Dick is also survived by six grandchildren, Ashley Palacio, Amanda Palacio,and Aimee Palacio all of Rio Rancho, NM, Adrina Young, Andrew Young and Alaina Baldwin all of Gulf Port, MS. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 16, 3:30 p.m. at Aspen Funeral Alternatives Chapel.

Thelma Jean Bledsoe passed away at home in her sleep Friday, June 6, 2003. She was born on August 1, 1941, in Dalhart, Texas. Jean was the fourth of seven children. She was married to MSGT. Paul D. Bledsoe for 34 years. He preceded her in death in 2000. Jean lived in Albuquerque for 31 years, and worked for APS for almost 30 years. Jean is survived by her son, Jerold L. Bledsoe; daughter, Staci Bledsoe; her granddaughter, Adria Harty; two brothers; two sisters, many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Per her request, cremation has taken place with no services. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th NW Albuquerque, 343-8008.

Dorothy Staley Buday, 89, died Thursday, June 12, 2003. She is survived by her husband, L.L. "Bud" Buday of Albuquerque; and "the daughter she never had", Kathy Quintana of Albuquerque. Mrs. Buday graduated from Albuquerque High School and continued her education at Indiana University. She taught at Atrisco Elementary School and was a member of the American Rose Society. Dorothy had a love for people and will be greatly missed by many special friends. Cremation has taken place and interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

John K. Galt, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, June 12, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Galt; son, Lloyd Anthony of Albuquerque; brother, Thomas Lee Galt and wife, Doris; and nephew, David Galt and wife, Suzan, all of Portland, Oregon. Mr. Galt graduated from Reed College and went to receive his PhD from MIT and became the staff scientist and manager with Bell Telephone Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey in 1948 until 1974. From 1974 until 1985, we was manager of Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Galt then joined the Aerospace Coop Staff in Los Angeles, CA until 1990. Cremation has taken place. No local services are planned.

Jacob Goodyear, age 12, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday June 12, 2003 following an accident. Jacob is survived by his father, Kenneth Patrick Goodyear of Albuquerque; brother, Jerry Michael Goodyear of Albuquerque; grandparents, Mandy Goodyear of Albuquerque, James Goodyear of Wisconsin and Jerry and Linda Layton of Los Lunas; two special aunts, Rene O'Neill and Jackie Candelaria both of Albuquerque; special friend, Theresa Vigil of Albuquerque; several aunt, uncles, cousins and friends. Jacob attended Taft Middle School and was very athletic playing football and wrestling. He was loved by his teammates and enjoyed his music. A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2003 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church 1860 Griegos Rd. NW. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2003 also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Vigil celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with Julian Chavez, Thomas Chavez, Desi Chavez, Lawrence Pacheco, Anthony Cassas, Gary Martinez, Jacob Zamora, Max Herrera and Phillip Candelaria, Brandon Lovato serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Adam Torres, Gilbert Torres, Dennis Torres, Brandon Torres, Matthew Candelaria, Lorenzo McManaway, Nick McManaway, Felipe Gallegos, and Isaac Duran. Edmund "Chuck" Gross
Electrical Engineer, Inventor
Julian Edmund "Chuck" Gross passed away from natural causes in Northampton, Massachusetts on June 4, 2003. He was born on December 21, 1926 in Northampton to Julian Zigmund Gross and Martha A. (Petroski) Gross. Mr. Gross was 76. Mr. Gross graduated from Northampton High School in 1944. Following his graduation, he joined the Navy for two years just prior to the Korean Conflict. After his service, Mr. Gross attended MIT where he received both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1951. On June 9, 1951, the day after his graduation, he married Ednarae Bligh in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. Upon his graduation, Mr. Gross was hired by Sandia Corporation and the couple then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. During his employment, Mr. Gross was awarded a patent on a time-interval measuring device he invented for the Atomic Energy Commission. Mr. Gross had a never-ending thirst for knowledge and creativity as an engineer and inventor. Mr. Gross lived in Albuquerque from 1951 to 1964. He enjoyed raising a family, river rafting, exploring old ghost towns, camping, and fossil hunting while he lived in the West. Other interests included hiking, backpacking, skiing, and 4-wheeling in his Land Rover (long before the term became widely-known). Early in 1964, Mr. and Mrs. Gross were involved in an automobile accident on Tennessee Pass in Colorado while on a skiing vacation. Mr. Gross sustained permanent brain damage as a result of the accident, and spent the remainder of his life in a nursing home in Northampton. His wife, Ednarae B. Gross, a brother, Albion Gross and his father Julian Z. Gross preceded Mr. Gross in death. Mr. Gross is survived by his mother, Martha P. Gross; and brother, Edward Gross and his wife, Marion of Northampton; sisters, Helen Chabot and her husband, Victor of St. Louis, Missouri, and Gertrude Lashway of Easthampton; three sons, Stephen Gross of Northampton, Allan R. Gross and Jeffrey R. Gross of Albuquerque; and a daughter, Janis C. Gross of Longmont, Colorado. Survivors also include many loving nieces and nephews in the Northampton area. A funeral service for Mr. Gross was held on June 7, 2003 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Northampton. Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Sarah Isabel Heath, was born in French, New Mexico, December 17, 1920. She is survived by five children, Shirlen Heath, Jr. and wife, Belva of Colorado, Wanda Dickey and husband, Bob of New Mexico, Patricia Hanno and husband, Dick of Arizona, Beulah McAdams and husband, Mac of Arizona and Nedra Cook and husband, Mike of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Kay Akin of Oklahoma and Alice Stancel of California; brother, Clarence Ayres and wife, Lil of California; and special nephew, Ted Heath. Mrs. Heath was preceded in death by her husband, Shirlen M. 'Bud' Heath; and her parents, Joseph Chester and Ora Ray Ayres. Services will be held Monday10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Elder Carlton Darnell officiating. Pallbearers will be Sonya McAdams, Neil Henry, Jack Hanno, Moeita Trujillo, Greg Heath and Michael Cook. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lance McAdams, Jennifer Kohl, Rhonda VyVyan, Darci Hayduckovich, Robin Henry, Stewart Dickey, Shannon Kaufman, Shawn Heath, Clinton Heath and Ted Heath. Kendall Ray Kennedy was born on July 26, 1946 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Joe and Charlette Kennedy. He and his sister, Karel, were raised and schooled there and in Farmington, NM and Hobbs, NM. Upon graduation from Hobbs High School in 1964, Ken attended the University of New Mexico where he achieved a degree in civil engineering. He belonged to the honor fraternities Chi Epsilon and Sigma Tau. At UNM Ken met Cynthia Hammer. They were married on August 31, 1968. Ken graduated from UNM in 1969, and he and Cindy moved to Downey, California where he took a position with the California Department of Transportation as a Junior Civil Engineer. Ken and Cindy were blessed with the births of their sons, Andrew in 1970 and Jason in 1975. Subsequent moves brought them to Phoenix, Arizona. Ken worked for Boyle Engineering from 1976 to 1996 and then for Carollo Engineering until his death. Ken was a licensed professional engineer in five states: Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas. Ken brought excellence to his work product and customer satisfaction was very important to him. His devotion to family was his highest priority. Survivors include his wife, Cindy; sons, Andrew and wife, Nicolle, and Jason; grandson, Justin; and sister, Karel Jahns of Washington state. Ken passed away on May 22, 2003. Arrangements were handled by Shadow Mountain Shadow Funeral Home in Phoenix. A Memorial Service was held on May 27, 2003. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to your favorite charity.

Bernice Mayes, 94, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003. A visitation for Bernice will be Sunday, June 15, 2003, 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Funeral services are Monday, June 16, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marshall Smith, officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.

Alfredo Garcia Mendez went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ. He was born July 24, 1920. A resident of Albuquerque since 1950, he and his family came from Santa Fe, NM. He was a Disabled American Veteran who served in the army in the South Pacific during WWII and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the Purple Heart. He retired from the City of Albuquerque in 1985, was a Life Member of VFW Post 401 and a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Angie of 59 years; son, Paul Mendez and wife, Georgianne of Corrales; daughters, Lucy Martinez and husband, Don, and Marie Apodaca and husband, Joe, both of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers and one sister, all of the San Francisco Bay area. Services will be held Tuesday 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers will be Paul A. Charles A. Nassif, died at age 56, of an apparent heart attack on his yacht "Old Blue" in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Charlie is survived by his wife, Jan Nassif; son, Chuck Nassif; daughter, Edy Parker; brothers, Fred Nassif and Martin Nassif; and grandchildren, Brittany and Shawna Parker and Anastasia and Troy Nassif. He was a member of one of Albuquerque's oldest families. Charlie graduated from Highland High where he was an excellent basketball player, he continued his education and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University. Charlie served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam era, was highly decorated, and was a service officer with the VFW. Since arriving in Jamaica, Charlie received his Advanced Open Water Scuba Diving Certification. This brought him very much enjoyment and was one of his newest hobbies. He was a member of the Montego Bay Yacht Club and a Theoretical Physicist for the University of the West Indies. Visitation will be held at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Wednesday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. One of Charlie's proudest accomplishments was having a record of going 469 days wearing shorts and a T-shirt, which is why visitation is informal, preferably shorts and T-shirts. Cremation will follow on Thursday at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menual NE.

Tom Lee O'Neill, age 41, a resident of the East Mountains and Albuquerque for 15 years, died Thursday June 12, 2003 following an accident. Tom was a true lover of life and will be missed by all his family, friends, fellow musicians, and work colleagues. He was a dedicated physical therapist and a band member of the Wild Cards. He also coach junior wrestling for Valley Wrestling. Tom was a wonderful and loving father, husband, son, and friend. He is survived by his wife Rene O'Neill of Albuquerque; three daughters, Janine O'Neill and Jacqueline O'Neill both of Stanley, New Mexico, Frida O'Neill of Albuquerque; one son, Adam Torres of Albuquerque; his father, John O'Neill of Wisconsin; his mother, Florence O'Neill of West Virginia; two brothers, John O'Neill and wife, Jody of Delaware, Jim O'Neill of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews. A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2003 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos RD. NW. She is preceded in death by her mother, Amanda McClure. Michelle is survived by her life partner, Julian Flores; father, Leland Stewart of Birmingham, Alabama; sister, Lisa Jane Emory of Anaheim, CA; step-father, David McClure of California; two nephews, David and Morris Emory; and one niece, Reba Emory.
