Louis Christopher Buenabenta Sr., age 76, a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend was called home to the Lord our Savior, Wednesday, June 12, 2002, while surrounded by his loving family. Louis was a resident of Bernalillo; a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church; a proud Veteran of the United States Navy who served our country during World War II. Louis retired from the Bernalillo School System; he was a Santero, a Historian, Author; and a true Humanitarian. He will always be remembered by his kindness and for his love for live. Louis leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Josie Buenabenta of the family home; his wonderful children, Louise Deborah Buenabenta; Jules Buenabenta, Rene Buenabenta, Louis Buenabenta, Jr.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Manuel Benta; many other relatives and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Motuary. A Rosary will be recited Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m., also at the church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Michael Buenabenta, Robert Benta, Gene Chavez, Richard Gurule, Frankie Trujillo, and Avelino Antillon. Marion L. Cody, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950 passed away peacefully on June 3, 2002 in her home after a long illness. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Cody; sister, Janie Ralston; nieces, Anne Moore and Barbara Mitchinson; nephews, Peter Ralston, Bill Cody and Jim Cody. Psalm 23:6, "Surely goodness and love will follow me all the day's of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Cremation has taken place. No Services will be held. The family would like to thank all the friends who have sent cards, flowers, books, gifts of food and those who have spent time visiting during her illness. Steve Fox, 54, a 30- year resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, June 9, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Jo Fox of Albuquerque; children, Buddy Hobbs of St. Louis, MO, Joel Hobbs of Seagraves, TX, Rocky Hobbs of Albuquerque, and Ronny Hobbs of Seagraves, TX; and grandchildren, Steven Hobbs of Odessa, TX and Karolyn Hobbs of Seagraves. Services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chelwood Ward, 12701 Indian School Rd. NE, with Mike Prestwich, Conducting. Robert W. Henderson, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947, died Monday, June 10, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Berchie Henderson; sons, Robert T. Henderson and wife, Cindy and Dr. William G. Henderson and wife, Carol; grandsons, Randy Henderson and wife, Tawni, Scott Henderson and wife, Angel; granddaughters, Heather Briggs and husband, Chris, all of Albuquerque, Carolyn Constantine and husband, Paul of San Francisco, CA and Stephanie Henderson; grandson, Brian Henderson, both of Albuquerque; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Henderson was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He retired from Sandia National Labs as a vice-president. Mr. Henderson was one of the pioneers in nuclear weapons development starting in Los Alamos in 1944. Josephine M. Karner, 77 passed away June 12, 2002. She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Stephen Karner, Jr.; son, William of Waukesha, WI; daughter, Christine of Billings, MT; and son, Richard of Albuquerque. Josephine had six beautiful grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Sunday June 16, 2002 at 10:00 a.m., St. Joseph's Chapel, 4701 Montgomery Blvd. NE.

Jackie R. Matteson, 65, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, died Sunday, June 9, 2002. She is survived by her daughters, Jacque Hamilton and husband, Keith of Hereford, TX, Deania C. Raausch of Dripping Springs, TX, Mary M. Hemke of Los Lunas and Nancy N. Dillinger of Albuquerque; son, Clarence Herrington and wife, Sheila of Ada, OK; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald M. Taylor and wife, Jerri of Tabacco Port, MD and Frank Taylor and wife, Marcia of Lowell, MI; and sisters, Donna Dowdy and husband, Jack of Espanola and Willa Lewellyn of Canton, TX. "Don" Jose Perez, 97, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2002 after a short illness. He is survived by his son, Ignacio Perez and wife, Loretta of Albuquerque; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many, many friends. Mr. Perez was preceded in death by his wife, Maria. They came from Durango, Mexico in 1977 to be with their only son. Mr. Perez loved gardening and dancing. Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Charlie Gallegos reciting. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE, with Father Robert Chabot, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. Gene H. Price, age 61, of Mesilla Park died suddenly of an apparent heart attack Tuesday, June 11, 2002. He was born October 25, 1940 in Lubbock, TX to Herbert and Polly Price. Gene graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1958. He held a bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University, was a former State FFA Officer, a Bernalillo County and Dona Ana County Fair Board Representative, a 4-H leader and he lent his expertise to the agricultural youth programs throughout the state. Gene was a third-generation New Mexico ranch-raised person who specialized in farm and ranch appraisal and brokerage. He founded Price and Company in Las Cruces, NM in the early 1980's. Gene was one of the nation's most respected rural appraisers and served the professional society, ASFMRA, in many leadership capacities. Gene had friends in every part of New Mexico who will miss him and mourn his untimely passing. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Glenda of the family home; his mother, Polly Price of Hobbs, NM; daughters, Bobbi Price of Las Cruces, Becky Horner and her husband, Kevin Horner; grandchildren, Courtney and Tristian Horner of Las Cruces; sister, and brother-in-law, Donna and Billy Royce Medlin of Malijamar, NM; three nieces; one nephew; and several great-nieces and nephews. Friends and family may visit Friday, June 14, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Getz Funeral Home. Harriet "Peg" Rankin Pegrum, born in Brooklyn, NY on July 24, 1922 died on May 8, 2002 in Florida. She was the daughter of Martha Jean Best Rankin. Mrs. Pegrum graduated from Hunter High School and continued her education receiving a B.A. from Hunter College in New York City. She later completed her M.A. in secondary education from Adlephi and another M.A. in math from N.Y.U. In 1947 she married Frank G. Pegrum, Jr. They resided in Flushing, NY throughout their married life. Mr. Pegrum died on June 1, 1984. Mrs. Pegrum worked for several years at Merrill Lynch on Wall Street before pursuing a teaching career. She taught mathematics for 27 1/ 2 years at North Shore High School in Glen Head, NY. She retired in 1985 and in 1986 moved to Rio Rancho, NM., there she was involved in MADD, the AAUW, and was a lobbyist for education within the state government. She also helped in the process of establishing a High School in Rio Rancho. She was a member of the Church on the Hill in Flushing, NY for many years transferring her membership to St. Andrew's U.C.C. in Rio Rancho, NM when she moved to New Mexico. In June of 2001, Mrs. Pegrum moved to Sun City Center, FL where she resided until her death. From 1961, summers were enjoyed with her family and friends at her summer residence on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine. Mrs. Pegrum is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Klump of Centennial, CO and Barbara Pegrum of Broadalbin, NY; her five grandchildren, Scott, Robert, Stefanie, Jonathon, and Thomas; her great-grandson, Cameron; and her cousin, Theodora Hellie. There will be a Memorial Service in the summer at the residence in Maine at the convenience of the family. Louis Rice, 79, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away June 6, 2002. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, was a navigator in World War II, and following his military service, had a career in accounting, with his brother, running Rice & Rice Accounting, for 30 years. He spent the last 12 years at Los Volcanes Senior Center, active in the Advisory Council and also served as Vice President. He is survived by four children, Thom, Luanne, Carol and Arlene; many grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 14, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW. Belen Lopez Russey, 49, passed away in her home on June 11, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Earl Gene Russey; daughters, Patricia Spikes, Genee Russey, Raquel Russey and Kiana Russey; mother, Antonia Ruiz Lope; sisters, Alice Harris and Alice Levario. Her father, Adolfo P. Lopez, preceded her in death. Joshua A. Sanchez (Dietrich), born September 11, 1982, died on June 9, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Loretta Dietrich; grandmother, Esther Sanchez; and his aunts and uncles, Teresa Gomez, Christine Sanchez, Richard Sanchez, Ronald Sanchez and wife, Bernadette, Robert Sanchez and wife, Diana, Diane Otero and Tony and Amy Sanchez. Also surviving are 14 cousins. Joshua served in the US Navy as a Fireman Apprentice on the USS Denver. Dorothy Sanders, 77, loving wife and mother, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002. Born in Oklahoma on July 28, 1924, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Bessie Fisher; and husband, B. Gene Sanders. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Grigg and husband, Ed Schultz of Cedar Crest; nieces, Kathy Coffee and husband, Jimmy and their daughter, Karri Babb and Vickie Lewis and her sons, Sean, Dean and Aaron; brother, Joe Sanders; numerous other family members; and friends. Dorothy was a blessing to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed. Dewey J. Stout, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, June 13, 2002. He is survived by his sisters, Julie Bruce of Albuquerque, Ruth Moore and husband, Folbert of Peralta and DeLora Moore of Rio Rancho; brother, Edward Stout and wife, Margaret of Houston, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Stout was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Stout; father, Marion Stout; mother, Peachie Stout; step-mother, Mallie Stout; brother, Kenneth Stout and his wife, Iona; and sisters, Joyce Glaze and her husband, Bill and Ora Marie Truet. He lived in Tonopah, Nevada. Mr. Stout retired from Tonopah Testing Ground and Tonopah Forrest Service. Graveside Services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Rhoderic Tregembo, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2002. Rhoderic was born in Ironwood, MI, on October 26, 1926. He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1944. He then enlisted in the US Air Force, and was sent to Michigan State University in an ASTP Engineering program for a year. He then completed basic training in Shepard Field, TX in 1945. He was transferred to Scott Field, IL for Crytography training and then went to Shepard Field and was discharged on Nov. 19, 1945. Rhoderic enrolled at Michigan Technical University in Houghton, MI where he received a BA in Mining and Civil Engineering in 1949. He was employed by Pickans Mather Corporation in Ironwood as a Mining Engineer and was transferred to the Cary Mine in Hurley, WI as an Assistant Mine Captain. He was married to the former Marianne Janov on September 9, 1950. He was transferred to the Sunday Lake Mine in Wakefield, MI as a Mine Captain and remained there until 1962 when the mine was shut down. On March 1, 1962 the family moved to Grants, NM when Mr. Tregembo was hired as a Technical Assistant to the General Manager. In July of 1962, he was transferred to the Sec. 24 mine and later the Sec 30 mine. He then went on to the Ambrosia Lake office as Assistant Manager of Mining. In 1975, he was transferred to Casper, WY as General Manager of the South Powder River operation and in 1977 was sent to Kerr McGee's offices in Oklahoma City as Vice President of Mining, Milling and Manufacturing of the Uranium Divisions. He retired from Kerr McGee in 1986 when he and his wife moved back to NM and then to Sun City West, AZ. They returned to Rio Rancho, NM in 1998. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marianne; his children, Scott and wife, Toni Tregembo of Albuquerque, Tracy and husband, Tom Camplain of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Jamie and Jessi Tregembo, Ricky and Carly Camplain; sister, Mrs. A.J. Gilbert of Wakefield, MI; and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Roy preceded him in death. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary (Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln.) with Rev. Roselie Johnston of Paradise Hills United Methodist Church officiating. Juanita Alma Marple Uthe, 86, died May 20, 2002 in Denver, Colorado. Wife of Curtis L. Uthe (deceased). Survived by Evelyn L. Uthe, daughter, Denver, CO; James R. Weiss, nephew, Cleveland, Ohio; Gloria Breidenbach, niece, Baytown, Texas; one great-niece; four great-nephews and two great-great nieces. A Graveside Service will be held at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho, N.M. June 29, 2002 at 2:00 p.m.

ADELA ARCHULETA, 93, of San Juan Pueblo and originally of Ojo Caliente died Wednesday following a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Celedonia Herrera; husband of 63 years, Jose Nemecio Archuleta; two sons-in-law, Al Disabatino and Delphine Herrera; and grandson, Mel Rael Jr. She is survived by her children, Fernando Archuleta and wife Tina of Albuquerque, Floriada Wells and husband Parker of San Juan, Alice Rael of Santa Fe, Frances Herrera of Denver, Virginia Salazar and husband Rey of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tina Disabatino of San Juan, and Sally Turner and husband Bob of Moreno Valley, Calif.; dear sister, Maria Archuleta of Ojo Caliente; 29 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. LEON GUERIN, 59, of La Villita died Wednesday following a sudden illness. He was originally from Las Vegas and moved to Cuarteles as a young boy. In 1982 he married Joyce and moved to Alcalde. He was a member of the San Juan Baptist Church, was very active in Jaycees, was president of the Fiesta Council and coached for 11 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Guerin; brother, Ray Lopez; mother and father-in-law, Elvie and Albert Babcock; paternal grandfather, Johnny Guerin; grandmothers, Susie and Margaret Guerin; and maternal grandparents, Salomon and Tule Hayes. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Guerin of Alcalde; children, Martina Padilla and husband Tommy of Chamita, Teofilo Guerin and Juan Marcos Guerin all of Alcalde; two grandchildren; mother, Constance Lopez and husband Joe of Quarteles; brothers and sisters, Patty Tate and husband Charles of Ardmore, Okla., Mike Guerin and wife Bertha of Hobbs, Aurilious, Benny and Sandra Lopez all of Quarteles; and many other relatives and friends. KAREN MARIE LOPEZ, 37, of Espaņola and originally of Raton died Tuesday. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Ortiz; a brother-in-law, Edward Lopez; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Lopez. She is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Lopez; daughters, Angelica Marie and Francesca Christine all of the home; stepdaughter, Eva Marie of Albuquerque; her mother, Frances and stepfather, James McDowell of Raton; sister, Lillian and husband Rafael Esparza of Gallup; brother, Sam Ortiz of Albuquerque; stepsisters, Saundra McDowell of Raton, Carol McDowell of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Debra Valdez of Denver; and many other relatives and friends. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Caņada with interment to follow at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery in Espaņola. ALBERTO T. PADILLA 'EL PADILLA', 83, of Taos, died Wednesday at the Holy Cross Hospital. He was born in Canada Bonita in Ocate on July 5, 1918. He worked in a sawmill in Valle Escondido in his early years and went on to work on many ranches in Wyoming. He was a member of St. Francis Church in Ranchos de Taos. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stella Romero and his son, Laudencio Padilla. He is survived by his children, Dorothy Padilla, Frances Espinosa and husband Billy, Alex Padilla and Maryanne Padilla; nine grandchildren and 14 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Sisneros LaFollette Chapel. A second visitation will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis Church in Ranchos de Taos where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the same church. TROY PINO, 30, of Santa Rosa and Las Vegas, N.M., died Tuesday in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo P. Pino; his maternal grandmother, Maria J. Nelson Sanchez; great-grandfather, Carlos Aragon; and uncle, Al Nelson. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Bernadette and Malcolm Foster; brother, Shane Pino of Brunswick, Maine; daughter, MaKayla Pino; mother of his daughter, Bernadette Cruz of Springer; and many other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anton Chico.

CAROLINA 'CARRIE' ROMERO, 83, of Vadito died Tuesday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Natividad Fernandez; sisters, Mary Aragon (Esequiel), Tomasita Valdez (Adelaido); brother, Morris Eloy Fernandez; and brother-in-law, Frank T. Gurule. She is survived by her husband, Ramon Romero; children, Carmen Cecilia Madrid and husband Eddie of Las Vegas, Erlinda Russell and husband Jeff of Redlands, Calif., Elaine Benavides and husband Jerry of Albuquerque, and Lucille Geri Temer and husband Donald of Santa Fe; sisters, Ramona Tafoya and husband Ernest of Santa Fe, Margaret Vigil of Santa Fe, Angie Gurule-Vergo and husband Jim of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peņasco. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the same church in Peņasco with interment to follow at Vadito Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church. JUDITH WOOD, 81, of Hudson, Mass., died June 6, 2002, after a short illness while on vacation in Santa Fe. She grew up and resided in Harvard, nearly 60 years prior to moving to Maine, and then to Hudson, Mass., where she lived with her daughter. Her husband of nearly 40 years, Bertram 'Bud' Wood, also a Harvard native, died many years ago. She worked for a number of years at Westward Orchards during the apple harvest season. She was an alumnus of Bromfield School, class of 1938. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Wood of Hudson, Mass.; son, Peter Wood of Santa Fe; and grandson, Patrick M. Mockler-Wood of Los Alamos. She will be interred at the convenience of the family in Maine. For those wishing, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or another of one's choice, in Judy's memory.
