Jayce Brandon Schmille, age 24, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, born August 21, 1974, passed away. He is survived by his parents, Pamela R. and Christopher L.; brothers, Hoyt J. Schmille and Seth Schmille; grandparents, Donald E. Schmille, Charmaine Schmille and Otis J. Killian; aunts and uncles, Richard E. and Judy Schmille and their sons, Garrett and Derik Schmille, Randall J. and Betty Leslie Schmille and their children, Josh and Natalie Schmille, Marianne and Joe Murphy and their children, Bryan and Hayley Murphy, all of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary Jane Schmille and Gladys L. Killian. A memorial service will be held June 8, 1999, 3:30 p.m., at Christ Unity Church, 9800 Candelaria NE, with Rev. Greg Barette officiating. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to All Faiths Receiving Home, 1709 Moon NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. John Maximilliano Sekot, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 49 years, went to be with our Lord, June 3, 1999. He is survived by his loving wife Anita Valdez Sekot. John and Anita married on March 1934. Surviving are two sons: Joseph and wife Mercy Sekot, Johnny and wife Rickie Sekot, four daughters: Marie and husband Robert Martinez, Angela and husband Philip Ballengee, Jeannie and husband Maurice Mackey and Loretta and husband Levi Duran. John was blessed with 17 grandchildren-Steven Sekot, Yvonne Lindsay and Joseph Sekot; Fred Sekot, Cheryl Parks and Shelly Allenbach; Robert McGrew, Martin Martinez, Michael Martinez, Kathy Gunderson and Christine Woisin; David, Nicholas and Victoria Ballengee; Anton Mackey; Danielle and Levi J. Duran. John is survived by three brothers-Matias, Victor and David Padilla; two sisters-Grace Britton and Martha Benjamin. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fidel and Blas Padilla. John is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. John was born in Dawson, New Mexico, once a thriving coal mining town. He was born to John and Marianna Sekrotes on May 29, 1914. His parents were married in Las Vegas, New Mexico at Our Lady of Sorrows Church August 23, 1913. John Sekrotes, a Greek immigrant, came to New Mexico to work in the coal mines. Mr. Sekrotes died on October 22, 1913, in one of the nations worst coal mine explosions. After the fatal mine explosion, his mother married Victor Padilla. Subsequently, John was raised by his grandparents-Epifanio and Gregoria C de Baca. Eventually, John followed his fathers footsteps and became a coal miner. After the coal mines closed in 1950, John and Anita moved their family to Albuquerque where John worked at ACF Ind., finally retiring from General Electric in 1976. After John's retirement, he spent his time enjoying his family, working sports pools and developed a passion for crossword puzzles. Visitation was on Sunday, May 6, 1999, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Sandia Funeral Care. Rosary followed on Sunday, May 6, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd., NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be today, May 7, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Risen Savior, with the Rev. Paul Baca officiating. Serving as Pallbearers will be; Steven Sekot, Joey Sekot, Freddie Sekot, Martin Martinez, Michael Martinez, David Ballengee, Nicholas Ballengee, Anton Mackey and Levi Duran. Interment will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetary. Arrangements are under the direction of Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109; 821-0010. Mr. Esaias Tapia died on Friday at the age of 82. He is survived by two daughters, Ruth Cuellar and husband, Henry, Virginia Catalano and husband, Joe; one brother, Ubaldo Tapia; five grandchildren, Tracy, Cehristy, Rosalie, Christina and Matthew; and one great-grandchild, Mickaela. Graveside services for Mr. Tapia will be held on Tuesday at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Tony Cuellar, Joe Catalano, Gabriel Sandoval, Lawrence Cuellar, Leroy Tapia and Leonard Marquez. Honorary pallbearer will be James Hatcher. Lela L. Allen, age 91, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, died June 3, 2000 in a local hospital. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2000, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE. A Memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, with Pastor Lynn Taylor officiating. Pearl H. Churgin, a long-time resident of Oceanside, CA, lost her battle with cancer Sunday, June 4, 2000. She was born March 27, 1920 in Toronto, Canada. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Sol Churgin of Albuquerque; and her daughters, Tina Lewis and Lee Churgin, both of Albuquerque, who were at her side when her sprit departed this world. Despite the effects of the cancer on her body, Pearl remained in spirit as positive and sweet as person as she had been throughout her life. She died with dignity and a smile on her face, due in large part to the wonderful caregivers of Presbyterian Hospice Foundation. Lawrence Bud Cowan, age 70, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully Sunday morning, June 4, 2000 at home. He was born on December 8, 1929, to Charles Dallas Cowan and Esther Belle Cowan. Bud served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA, where he met his future bride, Claudine Rae Prewitt. They were married on July 9, 1954. Bud was a member of the Heat & Frost Insulators and Asbestos Union Local 76 from 1948 until 1971. He started New Mexico Motorcycle Salvage in March 1972 and operated it until he retired in 1996; it continues to be run by family members. Bud is survived by his wife of 46 years, Claudine; his son, Monty Cowan, both of Albuquerque; daughters, Zoanne Crouch Kabriel of Louisville, CO, Roxanne Collins, Michelle Newlan and husband, Ric, Laura Sandoval and husband, Benny, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jason Crouch, Lucas Crouch, Adam Crouch, Trudy Handley and husband, Ronnie, Mariah Cowan, Nathan Cowan, Jonathan Vallez, Delorianna Sandoval, Maria Sandoval and Christina Sandoval; special aunt, Dorothy Long and husband, Mike; and stepsister, Betty Cowan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Belle Runner; father, Charles Dallas Cowan; and sister, Ida Mae Walters. Michael Anthony Flores, 43, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2000. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Flores; and brother, Ray Flores. He is survived by his wife, Patty; mother, Sally S.; four sisters, Linda L., Lydia C. and husband, Manuel, Sharon S., Darlene R. and husband, Mike; three brothers, Ralph F. and wife, Ruth, Charles S., Gilbert F. and wife, Sue; four daughters, Hope and husband, Crystal F., Gloria F., and Michelle F.; two grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who loved and will greatly miss him. Services will be held at San Jose Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2000. Ernest P. "EJ" Jojola, 68, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Sunday, June 4, 2000. He is survived by his sons, Matthew J. Jojola and Jim A. Jojola; daughter, Lisa A. Lente and husband, Kevin; granddaughters, Jean Jaramillo and Luann Jojola; grandsons, Kevin Lente, Jr., LeeRoy Lente, Kevin, Seferino Jojola and Gregory Jojola, all of Isleta; spouse, Juanita Jojola; sisters, Lupita Decora of Isleta, Vangie McClendon of Tulsa, OK, Andrea Gilbert and husband, Clifford of Chama and Miriam Lucero and husband, Michael B. of Isleta; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Jojola was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Jojola. He had worked for the B.I.A. as a surveyor, as well as being a cattleman and farmer. Mr. Jojola was a former council member for the Isleta Tribe. Ruth Hoose Lazenby went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 2, 2000 at the age of 91. Born on April 16, 1909 to Ed and Virgie Hoose, she was the second of three children. She married Grigg Lazenby on June 25, 1958. Ruth taught school for 39 years from 1928 to 1967 in the Malaga and Loving area where she touched many young lives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Virgie Hoose; her two sisters, Marian Ellis and Kathryn Dickson; and her loving husband, Grigg Lazenby. Ruth resided in Albuquerque since 1984. She is survived by her nephew, Robert Dickson and his wife, Margaret of Albuquerque; her nephew, Roy Dickson of Carlsbad; her niece, Marjorie Gibson and husband, Glen of Sweetwater, TX; her nephews, Floyd Ellis and wife, Velma of Westlake, LA, Edward Ellis and wife, Janet of Denton, TX, and Bill Ellis and wife, Donna of Oswega, OR; great-nieces and nephews, Ruth Roberts and husband, Ken, Randy Dickson and wife, Sherre, Maxine Blom and husband, Willem, Annette Livingston and husband, Dock, Denise Gibson and husband, Joe, Jerry Dickson and wife, Carla, Linda Dickson; and many other relatives that touched her life in a very special way. Ruth's special pride and joy in her later years were nine of her great-great-nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to her as their "Grandma Ruth." Very compassionate and generous, she is no longer suffering and will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 207 N. Halagueno, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Her final resting place will be at the Carlsbad Cemetery. Mrs. Lorraine S. Martinez, 54, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on June 6, 2000. Mrs. Martinez was the beloved wife of 35 years to Leroy Martinez. She is also survived by her children, Adrena Chavez and husband, Alonzo, Leroy Martinez Jr. and wife, Valerie and Delaina Herrera and husband, Andrew; grandchildren, Jerome, Destiny, April, Adrian, Aaron and Crystal; a sister, Shirley Fenstamacher; one brother, George A. Sanchez; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lorraine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be missed dearly. Private disposition has taken place. Deborah "Debs" McDonald, 50, passed away June 3, 2000. She was born in Phoenix, AZ and was a longtime resident of Moriarty. She is survived by her sisters, Carol Painter of Phoenix, AZ and Jackie McElhaney of Glenshaw, PA; brother, Gary McDonald of Phoenix, AZ; nieces, Jamie Younger-Nixon and her children, Dylan and Easton of Phoenix, AZ, and Ginger Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; nephew, Robert Thompson of Sedona, AZ; and other family and dear friends who loved and will miss her. A Memorial service will be held at The Community Center in Moriarty on Thursday, June 8, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Roger Bowman officiating. Charles A. (Charlie) McGee, 58, a resident of Peralta, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2000. He was a member of the Westside Family Chapel in Valencia, NM and a well loved, respect, and devoted husband, father, grandfather and servant of the Lord. As an avid Cowboy and motorcycle enthusiast, Charlie was a member of several organizations, including the Christian Motorcycle Association. He is survived by his loving wife, Maddy, of 38 years, of the family home in Peralta; his son, Buddy and his wife, Jennifer; his daughter, Cathy McGee-Peterson and her husband, Carl; his grandson, Bobby McGee; his adopted daughter, Terry Addison and her husband, Leroy; his mother, Marian and step-father, Walter Gundersen; his uncle, Steve McGee; his five brothers; and one sister. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at the Westside Family Chapel on Hwy 47. Dennis "Sonny" Montoya, 62, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, June 5, 2000. He was born and raised in Martineztown, and had lived in California for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Andrea Chang; sons, Paul Montoya, Dennis Montoya and wife, Diwata Montoya with two children, Tammy Allen and Paulina Montoya; the mother of his children, Linda Montoya; sisters, Irene Duran, Rosalie Saenz and Dolly Herrera; brother, Ernest Pablo Montoya; uncle, Pablo Martinez; aunt, Josephine Schnoor; and many nieces and nephews. His sons called him Tata. Mr. Montoya was Vice President of Sunwest Silver Company. Wake services will be held Thursday, 7:00 p.m., and Funeral services will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m., at North Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4001 12th St. NW. Alice Louise Navarro, age 59, passed away suddenly while vacationing in California on May 30, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Larry Navarro; two daughters, Janet Mares and husband, Ronnie, Vicki Boynton and husband, John; grandchildren, Lauren and Leanne Mares, Nicholas and Abigail Boynton. She is also survived by her mother, Patsy Emberty; sisters, Beverly Jones and husband, Johnny, Fern Peterson, Gloria Sellers and husband, Arlo; one brother, Paul Emberty; sisters-in-law, Caroline Luna and Irene Romero; brothers-in-law, Tony Navarro, George Navarro and wife, Tomasita; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She was a lifelong resident of New Mexico and a retired employee of APS, where she was employed for over 25 years. A Memorial service will be held at St. Therese, 300 Mildred Ave. NW, on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at 7:00 p.m.

Prospero "POPO" Sanchez, 75, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2000. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jesusita Sanchez; nine children, Prospero Sanchez Jr. and wife, Flora, Sardo Sanchez and wife, Lillian, Linda Sedillo, Charlie Sanchez and wife, Rose Marie, Manuel Sanchez and wife, Elizabeth, Albita Martinez and husband, Gilbert, Joe Sanchez and wife, Julie, Diana Segura and husband, Steve, and Theresa Goddard and husband, Richard. Also surviving are father-in-law, Mauricio Garcia; and 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Prospero served his country during World War II in the Marine Corps and was Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, Order of the Purple Heart, USMC League, 5th Marine Division Association, and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, and was Vice President of the American Legion New Mexico Boys State. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit today, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of the Alameda Mortuary. Pallbearers will be George Sedillo, Rodney Sanchez, Richard Sanchez, Eugene Lujan, Robert Clements, and Andrew Salazar. A Rosary for Mr. Arturo Thomas Talamante will be recited Wednesday evening, 7:00 p.m., at St. Edwins Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona SW, with visitation at the church after 6:30 p.m. Deacon J.O. Luna, reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning, 10:00 a.m., at St. Edwins Catholic Church with final viewing at the church after 9:30 a.m. Father Jose Hernandez, Celebrant. Doris Mary Joan Ventura, 83, born in England on July 7, 1916, passed away on June 4, 2000. Mrs. Ventura has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1965. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ventura and son, Frances Hammond. She is survived by two sons, John Chaplin of Albuquerque and Terrence Hammond of Suffolk England; two daughters, Deborah Hammond of Knox, PA, Juliette Rhodes of Albuquerque; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond NE, Albuquerque, NM on June 8, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. Cremation arrangements were by the Sunrise Society of New Mexico, 891-8200.

Dorothy (Dottie) Lee Ware, 58, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4, 2000 after a brief battle with cancer. Dottie was surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Jennie M. and Homer "Pop" Burkhammer; and by her father, Dorsey Ware. Dottie was born February 13, 1942. She devoted her life to caring for others as a nanny and CNA. Her love for children made her a special gift to every small life she touched. Dottie is survived by her brother, Elden Burkhammer and wife, Donna, and her four nephews, Matthew, Anthony and Tyler, all of the family home in Albuquerque, Chris of Oklahoma; three sisters, Denna Mae Bayliss, Phillis Burkhammer and Betty McWhorter and their families, all of West Virginia; brother, Norman J. Fox; and her extended families: the Parks, Olivers, Pearces, Siglers, Caddells and the Trujillos. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, 9:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Rev. William H. Ratliff officiating. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2000, 3:00 p.m., at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon, West Virginia with Rev. Randall Hughes officiating.

Larry Wright, 59, a resident of Albuquerque for 53 years, died Sunday, June 4, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Wanda Wright; sons, Frank Wright and family, Dave Wright and family, all of Albuquerque, and Don Wright and family of Levelland, TX; ten grandchildren; mother, Thelma Wright of Albuquerque; sister, Joyce Bynum of Mississippi; and brothers, Charles Wright of Boise, ID, David Wright of Charleston, SC and Steve Wright of Bosque Farms. Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Wright. Services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Eric Duttton and Larry Tuttle officiating. MARY 'GRANNY' L. MONTOYA, 68, of San Juan Pueblo died Monday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Montoya; two grandsons; parents Ignacio and Lavriana Lovato; and sisters Rosa Garcia and Victoria Lovato. She is survived by her children, Mabel Sanchez and husband Jerome of Espaņola, Jose Manuel Montoya and wife Edna of El Duende, and Peter Montoya of San Juan Pueblo; six grandchildren; brothers Carmen Lovato and wife Juana of Cuba, and Reynaldo Lovato and wife Victoria of Gallina; sisters Pabla Martinez and Epimenia 'Pepper' Lovato, both of Espaņola; and six great-grandchildren. Devotional services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Victory Faith Church. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Block-Salazar Mortuary, Espaņola.

FLORA O. ROYBAL, 89, of Espaņola died Tuesday following a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 2, 1911, to Onofre and Guadalupe Ortiz. She spent most of her youth with her grandmother, Rita Vigil, in Espaņola. She married Joe C. Roybal on Christmas Eve in 1935. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Holy Family Society. She was also a charter member of the Arte Antiguo Club. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Mae Roybal of Medanales; sons Leroy Roybal and wife Ramona of Espaņola, and Charles Roybal and wife Helen of Santa Fe; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; sisters Rose Balogh and husband Joseph of Akron, Ohio, Stella Ortiz, Miquela Smith and husband Frank of Santa Fe, Rita Sosa and husband Dan of Las Cruces, Lula Feldhake and husband Ed of Kearney, Ariz., Martha Brad and husband Andy, Beth Sanchez and husband Satch of Albuquerque, and Mary Ann Garcia and husband Gilbert of San Pedro; brothers Placido Ortiz and wife Charlotte, and Silverio 'Shorty' Ortiz of Santa Fe; and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Block-Salazar Mortuary in Espaņola. Visitation will be at 6:30 p.m. today at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Espaņola with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. AMADEO SANDOVAL, 99, of Rio Lucio died Monday following a short illness. He was born to Genario Sandoval and Perfecta Santistevan in Ranchos de Taos. He served in the U.S. Army during the early 1900s. He was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalena Vigil Sandoval. He is survived by his son, Teddy Vigil and wife Margaret of Santa Fe; six grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation will be at 3 p.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Peņasco with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. MILDRED 'MID' SISNEROS, 82, of Espaņola died Monday following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolpho 'Red' Sisneros. She is survived by her children, Rudy Sisneros and Tammy Sisneros, both of Espaņola; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; brothers and sisters John Clapper of Baraboo, Wis., Grant Clapper of Sweden, Martha Clapper of Pennsylvania, Dolly Thompson and husband George of Huntington, Pa., and Mary Senegal of Portland, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Amelia Quintana and husband Fred, Eloisa Martinez, Lena Trujillo and husband Pete, all of Espaņola, and Dorila Swindle and husband Bill of Arkansas. Evening prayer services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Block-Salazar Mortuary in Espaņola. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Espaņola. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Block-Salazar Mortuary, Espaņola.

SAM SWEESY, 75, of Santa Fe died Friday at St. Vincent Hospital following a short illness. After retiring to Santa Fe from Claremont, Calif., he worked at the office of Archaeological Studies as a cultural resource assistant. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peg; a daughter, Karen; a son, Michael, and a daughter-in-law, Lisa. Memorial services are pending. Berardinelli Family Funeral Service.
