Tami Benda, 30, a resident of Rio Rancho passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2001. Tami will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Rio Rancho Funeral Home with Issac Parks as Officiant. Trinidad Joe Chavez, 79, was called home to the Lord June 5, 2001. Services are pending and will be announced at later date. Services are in care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave., SW 243-5222.

Adolfo J. Contreras, 61, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away June 4, 2001 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Aurelia Contreras; three daughters, Angelina Mora, Sandra Schnidt and husband, Charles, and Monica Contreras; four sons, Adolph Contreras and wife, Bernadette, Richard Contreras, Robert Contreras, and Frank Ramirez; sister, Anita Candelaria and husband, Ambrosio; 21 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends who loved and will miss him. A Memorial Service will be held at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church on Friday, June 8, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST. NW. Albuquerque. 505-343-8008.

Gladys Mary Cunningham, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2001 in the loving care of the Presbyterian Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital. She is survived by her five children, James Cunningham and wife, Bonnie of Gouverneur, NY, Paulette Burcume and husband, Duane of Canton, NY, Cindy Cunningham and husband, Dave Steinberg of Albuquerque, Randy Cunningham and wife, Susan of Sandia Park, NM, and Robin Dillabough and husband, Gordon of Morrisburg, Ontario, Canada; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Bertha Girard and Blanche Ladeceaur; and brother, Jack Fortin and wife, Theresa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Robert Cunningham; brothers, Ernest Fortin, William Fortin, George Fortin, and Albert Fortin; and sisters, Della Compeau, Genneive Laflair, Bernadette Ashley, and Vivian Fortin. After retiring, Gladys enjoyed doing various crafts, playing bingo, and playing Rumoili with her Canadian friends. Memorial Graveside Services will be held Friday, June 8, 2001, 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Roy Curry, 81, passed away at the VA Hospital June 4, 2001. A native New Mexican, he served in the US Army during WWII. He enjoyed traveling the world, and worked as a mechanic and engineer. Roy is survived by his wife, Nancy Curry; son, Roy Lee Curry; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray Curry, Foy Curry, and other family and friends who will miss him. His remains were interred in the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Thursday, June 7, 2001. A Memorial Service will be held at Marble Avenue Baptist Church, 5200 Marble Ave. NE. 268-1441, on Friday, June 8, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by Direct Funeral services, 2919 4th ST. NW. Paulette Curtis, 53, born April 10, 1948 in Ohio, passed away June 2, 2001 after a long illness. She is survived by her mother, Gertrude Crawford of Belen; brother, Dr. David Crawford of Denver, CO; very special friend, Michelle (Mitch) Mason. Paulette moved to Albuquerque in 1985 where she worked for Hospital Home Health Care which is now known as Presbyterian Home Health Care, until her death. She was very active in many different functions concerning home care and Presbyterian. She was active in animal rights. Paulette touched many lives and will continue to be remembered for her unselfish giving. Services will be held on June 9, 2001 at 2:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m. at the home of Richard and Judi Blakely-Blaney 8937 Edith NE. Albuquerque, Rev. Father David Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, if possible, please make a donation to Kaseman Hospice c/o Janet Bish 8100 Constitution NE.

Josephine Dineen, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951, died Sunday, June 3, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Robert L. Dineen and wife, Sylvia of Huntsville, AL, Richard L. Dineen and wife, Elizabeth of Albuquerque; daughter, Kathleen Bickel and husband, David of Albuquerque; six grandchildren, Sean, Brian, and Joel Dineen, Michael Bickel and wife, Carla, Steve Bickel and wife, Boo, Karen Almos and husband, Mike; and great-grandson, Charles Michael; brother, Louis Kiss; niece Louise Kiss; and adopted niece, Scott Herron. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Dineen. Josephine was lovingly cared for by Carlotta De Herrera until her death. She was a talented seamstress and quilter and a member of the Highland Senior quilting group for many years. Josephine was an exemplary homemaker and her strong belief in family was evident in the many gatherings and celebrations in her home. She was a longtime parishioner of Holy Ghost Parish and was active in their Senior Program. Rosary will be recited Thursday, June 7, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with the Marianites reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 8, 2001, 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, Claremont and Vermont NE, with Father Ronald Bruckner, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, 5:00 p.m. until time of rosary. Elizabeth "Dixie" Dixon, 87, a downtown resident of Albuquerque for 40 years and a former resident of Bowling Green, KY, died Sunday, June 3, 2001. She is survived by her great-nephew, James R. Holland, II; great-nieces, Elisabeth Holland, Flournoy Holland, and Melissa Kathleen Holland; and her dachshund, Snicker Bar. Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Keith Dixon; father, Judge Laurence B. Finn; mother, Grace Whitehead Finn; and brother, Laurence B. Finn, Jr. Elizabeth Dixon was born in Franklin, KY. She was a graduate of Bowling Green Business College and studied under Robert Penn Warren at Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Mrs. Dixon was for many years a social worker at Los Lunas Hospital and at the Human Services Department of New Mexico. She was a founding member and was continuously active in Albuquerque's Downtown Neighborhood Association. Mrs. Dixon was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Services will be held Thursday, 9:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Myron White officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers will be James R. Holland II, Benny Piro, Joseph Olguin, Jose Olguin and Don Hampton. Orville L. Engle, 73, a resident of Albuquerque for 44 years, died Monday, June 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Engle of Albuquerque; son, Michael Engle and wife, Sarah of Boulder, CO; daughter, Patricia Engle and fiancé, Rob Hartman of Albuquerque; sister, Evelyn Hall of Everett, WA; sister-in-law, Zena Engle of Herington, KS. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vern Engle and brother-in-law, Cleo Hall. Mr. Engle was an adoring husband and father. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Ray Nyce officiating. Interment of cremains will take place at 12:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Engle's name to the American Lung Association, 216 Truman NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.

Lorene Genevieve Burnett Essington, 75, passed away on May 30, 2001. She was born in Minneapolis, MN on February 21, 1926 and has been a resident of New Mexico since 1955. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Falkenburg and husband, George; nephew, Gary Westafer and wife, Joann all of Florida; also by her devoted friend, Lloyd G. Howard,, members of the PNM Forerunners, and numerous friends and neighbors. A special thanks to the Los Volcanes Senior Day Services Staff and Angela Johnson for providing enjoyment and comfort to Lorene. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Essington; and brother, Kervyn Burnett. Lorene had a bachelor degree from UNM. She was a member of the PNM Forerunners, American Assoc. of University Women, Albuquerque Model Marine Assoc., and other civic clubs like Meals on Wheels. Lorene, always a kind and caring person, had a great sense of humor and a little chuckle ever present in her conversation. Her smile and presence will be greatly missed. A very giving person, Lorene has made an Anatomical gift to the UNM School of Medicine. A Memorial will be held as scheduling permits. For information call 898-8555.

Gloria Gabbard, 76, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2001, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Chicago, IL. to Harold and Grace Fregd. Her son, Robert preceded her in death. Gloria is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Thomas of MA., Margaret DiPretoro of MD.; son, Bill Gabbard of MI.; four grandchildren; husband, Albert Gabbard of Albq.; sisters, Dorothy Berget of Albuquerque, and Audrey Simpson of T or C. A Memorial Service will be held at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy Rd. 87111, on Thursday June 7, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Wilson officiating. Emma Garcia, age 76, and a lifelong resident of Old Town, passed away June 5, 2001. She was active in various community services and served the community of Old Town for the majority of her life. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, William "Billy" Garcia; daughter, Cecilia Garcia Verlarde; two brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Haggard of Lyons, KS, Viola Maez of Lynnwood, WA, Catherine Magruder of Richmond, MO, Lorraine Velarde of Albuquerque, Betty Gonzalez of Corpus Cristi, TX, and Valerie Groll of Omaha, NE; sisters, Louisa Dimas, and Josie Savage; brothers, Bob and Eddy Brown all of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends and loved ones. Memorial Services will be held at Duranes Catholic Church, 2110 Los Luceros NW. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 7, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 8, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St. NW. 505-343-8008.

Leopoldo Gonzales, 67, was called home to the Lord June, 4, 2001. Leoplodo was born on February 9, 1934 to the late Esmael and Vivianita Gonzales. He is survived by his brothers, Pete Gonzales and wife, Mary, Ernest Gonzales and wife, Jean, Flavio Gonzales and wife, Lupe, and David Gonzales and wife, Patsy; sisters, Diane Martinez, Angie Gutierrez and husband, Orlando, and Viola Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. A Rosary will be recited Thursday night June 7, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning June 8, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Child Catholic Church in Carnuel, NM. Interment will follow at Carnuel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sonny Martinez, Charlie Gonzales, Lester Gonzales, Pete Gonzales, Ralph Garza and Michael Gutierrez. Frank P. Green, age 66, passed away June 5, 2001, in Albuquerque. He was born December 3, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Daniel and Anna Mary (O'Rourke) Green. He is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Morgan, Jacksonville, FL, Laurie Rosenthal, San Francisco, CA, Eileen Rizzo, San Diego, CA; one son, Timothy S. Green, Cedar Park, TX; one sister, Betty Ann Bond, Albuquerque; two brothers, Daniel F. Green, Wichita, KS, Patrick J. Green, Albuquerque; and eight grandchildren. He was a member of Our Lady of The Assumption, Knights of Columbus and the Moose Loge in Albuquerque. He worked for TWA for 34 years as ticket agent and supervisor. A wake will be held at Frank Green's home, 3112 Candelight N.E. Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited Friday morning, June 8, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. The Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. also in Our Lady of Assumption. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Ricardo (Rick) Gutierrez, 50, beloved father, grandfather, son and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Tuesday, June 5, 2001, while surrounded by his loving family. Rick was born on April 28, 1951 in Albuquerque; he was a life long resident of Alameda; he enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors; but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his children, Jason Campbell and Yvette Ortiz of Albuquerque; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are his loving parents, Eloy and Aurelia Gutierrez of Alameda; his brother, Leo Gutierrez and wife, Debra also of Alameda; many nieces, nephews, other relatives; and a host of friends.. Rick will be greatly missed by his family and by those who loved and knew him. On behalf of the Gutierrez family, sincere appreciation is extended to relatives and friends for the love and support given during Rick's illness. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th Street NW, 898-3160.

Mr. William K. Hrdina died Saturday in Albuquerque at the age of 65. Mr. Hrdina was a Mason and a member of the Pro Bowlers Association. He is preceded in death by his father, Rudolph Hrdina; mother, Alfreda Clara Hrdina; and brother, Kenneth James Hrdina. Mr. Hrdina is survived by his wife, Barbara Hrdina; son, Bryan Hrdina and wife, Pamela; daughters, Brenda Hrdina and Bridget Hrdina; brother, Thomas William Hrdina; and sister, Dawn Louise Hrdina. Funeral Services for Mr. Hrdina will be held on Friday at the San Jose de Los Duranes Mission where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Art Perez, Lorenzo Perez, Michael Hernandez, David Hernandez, Alex Lopez, and Karl Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Damian Flores and Paul Hernandez. A Rosary for Mr. Hrdina will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.

Mass of Christian Burial for Aurelio "Al" M. Lopez, will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Ascension Cathoic Church, 2150 Raymac RD SW with final viewing at the church after 9:30. Father Anthony Bolman, Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Pajarito Cemetery. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors RD SW in charge of the arrangements.

Lauri Marchand, 37, a resident of Edgewood, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband, William; sons, Nic (15), Jake (8), Luke (5), and Josh (4), all of Edgewood; parents, Joe and Dolores Tomlinson of Prescott, AZ; brother, Don Tomlinson and wife, Crissi of Flagstaff, AZ; and grandparents, Otto and Evelyn Hoehne of Mesa, AZ. Lauri's love of horses began at an early age. Her first horse at the age of 13 kindled a lifelong interest in horses. This led to a fulfillment of her dream to become a breeder of excellent horses. She demonstrated her creativity with flowers and crafts by entering many craft shows. Lauri was a wonderful wife and caring mother whose main thought were those of her family. She will be deeply missed but forever in the hearts of those who loved her dearly. Services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Si Budagher officiating.

Irvin L. "Dutch" Moulton, a resident of Albuquerque for 42 years, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2001. Services will be held Thursday, June 7, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE on Wednesday, June 6, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of New Mexico, 216 Truman NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108

Severa (Vera) Garcia Nutt, 78, of Encino East, Albuquerque, NM passed away Sunday, May 27, 2001 at University Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Nutt was born in Guyman, OK on June 7, 1922. She was a waitress having worked in Tucumcari, NM, Oakland, CA and Seattle WA, retiring in New Mexico. She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and volunteered for many years at La Mesa Senior Center. Mrs. Nutt was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Y. Nutt, her parents, Prudencio and Margarita Garcia; brother, Tobias Garcia; and her sister, Mary Bailey. Survivors include five children, Theresa Russell and husband, Dennis, Anthony Martinez and wife, Julia and Victoria Ladd, all of Seattle, WA, Margaret Perez and husband, Tony of Nambre, NM, and Robert Martinez and his wife, Christine of Albuquerque, NM; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Nutt will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on June 9, 2001 at Enicno House East, 412 Alvarado SE. Cremation arrangements by Sunrise Society, 505-891-8200.

James Byron Smith
1962-2001
James Byron Smith, 38, passed away on May 29, 2001 in Denver, Colorado. He was a 1981 graduate of Manzano High School. He served his country in the US Army from 1981-1983. James is survived by his wife, Tina of Belen; his daughter, Amber and; step-daughter, Michelle Oden both of Belen; his parents, Bill and Marcie Smith of Belen; his brother, Guy of Denver, Colorado; and his Godparents, John and Eileen Lewin of Paradise Hills. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Robert Sanchez officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home in Belen.

Jerry R. Standard passed away June 4, 2001, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Belen, NM on July 26, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Dodd and Dorothy Armstrong; son, Kenneth Standard; and Lorraine Begay. He is survived by his wife, Isabel; sons, Gary, Steven, And Louie; daughter, Anna Reveles and husband, Tony of Phoenix; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and special granddaughter, Lorie; sister, Zoe Ann of Albuquerque; brother, Larry Standard of T or C; and many other relatives. Jerry served in the US Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. He retired from the State of New Mexico in 1988 where he worked as the Director of the Food Stamp Program. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Cristo Rey Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
