Col. John H. Carlson, US Army Ret., 76, of the 1100 block of Vera Cruze Court, died May 18, 1999, in Virginia Beach. Col. Carlson was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of June 6, 1944. He retired from the United States Army in 1969 as Colonel. After his retirement Col. Carlson had a full career with the Civil Service as manager of Nuclear Weapons Testing Division. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Jacqueline Cudigan Carlson, two daughters, Kathleen Marie Carlson of Suffolk, Virginia, Terry Elizabeth Carlson of Mountain Home, Idaho; two sons, Michael R. Carlson of Round Rock, Texas, Dennis P. Carlson of Gainesville, Florida; a brother, Col. Vincent P. Carlson of Saratoga, California; five grandchildren, Jonathan Robinson Heard, Patrick Bryan Hear, Mackenzie Reid Carlson, Cameron Michael Carlson and Cleo Elizabeth Carlson. A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. June 7, 1000 at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Department of Education Diocese of Gallup with benefits the Navajo Children, PO Box 1028, Gallup, NM 87305. H.D. Robert Patrick, a resident of Albuquerque since 1942, died from complications following a stroke on Sunday, May 30, 1999 at Presbyterian Hospice in Albuquerque with his family at his side. He was the son of Hugh Conway and Minnie Bell Ellis Conway of Clyde, Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife, Nelle Conway, of the family home; five daughters and one son. His wife of 52 years, Helen Marie Smelich Conway, died in 1991 at the age of 80. A son, Captain Harold Joseph Conway, was killed in a plane crash in 1976 at the age of 27. Present family members include Patricia and William Barron of Honolulu, Flo Conway and Jim Siegelman of New York City, Bob Conway, Jr., his wife, Virginia and their children, Christine and Vincent of Albuquerque, Kathleen "Kacey" Conway and Patrick Green of Grand Junction, Colorado, Loretta Conway and John Mitchell, M.D. of Zionsville, PA, and Helen "Holly" Conway of Charlottesville, VA. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening June 2, 1999 and a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona, SE. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday morning, June 3, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church with Msgr. Fred Stadtmueller, Fr. Albert Podvin and Fr. Joe Vigil, celebrants. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 5, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven, 7500 Paseo Del Norte, NE. R. P. "Bob" Conway was a pioneering figure in the New Mexico insurance industry and in professional and charitable activities statewide and nationally. He was born October 26, 1914 on the family farm in southern Wisconsin, graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1932 and attended teacher's training school. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression years of 1933-34 and after leaving the CCC taught all eight grades in the country school he had attended as a child. In 1936, he moved to Arizona and worked for the Phelps Dodge Corporation in Ajo. In 1938, he was appointed a part-time agent for the State Farm Insurance Companies in Ajo and met Helen Smelich, a Registered Nurse from Pueblo, Colorado. He and Helen were married in 1939. In 1942, State Farm invited him to come to Albuquerque to develop the company's operations in northern New Mexico. The Conway Agency grew to 33 agents and in 1973, became the top producing district in the nationwide State Farm organization. The New Mexico Room at the American College of Life Underwriters in Bryn Mawr, PA is dedicated in his name. Bob was involved in fund raising for almost 60 years. He served as chairman for Catholic Charities in Albuquerque and headed the fund raising campaigns for the building of the Heights Catholic grade school and Pius X High School. In the 1950s and 1960s, his principal volunteer activity was the March of Dimes State Chairman. He was a founder of the New Mexico Independent College Association. He was active in the Serra Club for more than 40 years and served two terms as its President. He was a 40 Year Monarch of the Lions Club and in 1995 was named a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Club International Foundation. With his wife, Helen, he founded the New Mexico Medic Alert Chapter. He was a member of the Republican Party and served as political action chairman for the state association. He was a long standing member of the Albuquerque Toastmasters Club and the Albuquerque Better Business Bureau. In 1974, he founded Conway Enterprises, a real estate development and management company. Since retiring from State Farm in 1984, he served as the Public Member of the New Mexico Board of Optometry and on the Governor's Distinguished Service Public Service Awards Committee. He was a founder and president of the NM Roadrunner Chapter of the National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni. He was a life member of the BPOE, The Knights of Columbus and The Knights of St. Gregory. In August, 1992, he married Nelle McElravy, of Cherry Hills, Colorado. Bob loved New Mexico from the day he set foot on its soil. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him. Luis Garcia, 16, a lifelong resident of Tijeras died Sunday, May 30, 1999. He is survived by his parents, Rey and Viola Garcia; brother, Rey Garcia, Jr.; sister, Karen Garcia; niece, Marissa Garcia; grandparents, Bella Garcia and Pablo and Irene Garcia, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Luis was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ermenio Garcia. He was very active at Manzano High School and a member of the Manzano Soccer Team and the Zia Sting Soccer Team. Rosary will be held at Holy Child Catholic Church, Tijeras, Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, at Holy Child Catholic Church, 10:00 a.m. with Fr. John Carney, celebrant. Visitation will begin at 6:00 until Rosary. Interment to follow at San Antonio Cemetery in Tijeras. Pallbearers will be Jerry L. Armijo, Jr., Joseph L. Antonio Luna, 84, passed away Saturday, May 29, 1999 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born October 18, 1914 to Luciano and Margarita Sanchez Luna in Polvadera, NM. A devoted educator, Mr. Luna retired in 1975 after 35 years as a teacher and principal in the Socorro Consolidated School System. He also served as a volunteer and on the boards of many local organizations. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Emilia Chavez Luna of their home in Polvadera; son, Ernesto Luna and wife, Mary of Albuquerque; daughter, Patricia Luna of Albuquerque; sisters, Viola Luna of El Paso, TX, Ernestine Henderson of San Diego, CA, and Terry Robinson of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Catherine Luna and numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, June 1, at 7:00 p.m. at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro, NM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 2, at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father Flavio Santillanes as Celebrant. Internment will be in the Polvadera Cemetery. Mrs. Andrea Mares died Sunday in Albuquerque at the age of 87. Mrs. Mares is survived by her son, Stanley H. Mares; daughters, Anita Romero and Carmelita Mares; sister, Gertrude Naranjo; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Services for Mrs. Mares are pending and will be announed. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Julian Romero, Joe Sedillo, Elfego Sanchez, Leonard Garcia, Peter George and Ernest Montano. Jacqueline Dorgan Meketa, 72, a resident of Placitas, passed away on May 28, 1999 after battling a long illness. Jacqueline was a noted Southwestern Historial with numerous publications to her credit. Some of her more notable works included: One Blanket and Ten Days Rations, Louis Felsenthal, Legacy of Honor, and From Martyrs to Murders. Jacqueline was a member of the Southwest Writer's Guild and the recipient of many literary awards including the New Mexico Presswomen's Zia Award in 1995. She was born in Balboa, Panama and moved to New Mexico in 1932 where she raised a family of seven children. Jacqueline is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Edward Meketal; sons, James Edward, Michael Charles, Anthony Stevan, Robert William, Thomas Peter and daughter, Rebecca Leigh Meketa. As well as 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Anthony. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 1st at 4:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel in Bernalillo. Gilbert Morales

Mr. Morales is survived by his wife, Corina of the family home; five sons, David Morales and wife, Shirley, Clarence Morales and wife, Fabiola, Wilfred Morales, Elmer Morales and wife, Diane, and Anthony Morales and wife, Linda; one daughter, Norma FFolkes and husband, Roger. Also surviving are three brother, Joaquin Morales, Fred Morales and wife, Edna, and Martin Morales and wife, Margaret; nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was a veteran surviving in the US Marines during World War II as a Corporal. Edith Irene Pearman, age 77, passed away on May 27, 1999. She was born in Bronx, New York on May 19, 1922. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Sydney V. Pearman; sons, Colin Pearman, Sr., and wife, Olivia, and Michael Pearman; daughter, Beverley Pearman-Horn; sisters, Dorothy Thompson and Eualie Louise Bryan; six grandchildren and one geat-grandchild. Mrs. Pearman was a seamstress before retirement. She has lived in this area since 1976. Mrs. Pearman was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Manuel Eloy Roybal, a Tome resident since 1975, died quietly at home on May 39, 1999. Manuel was born in Pecos, NM on December 6, 1936. He served twenty-years in the United States Air Force and retired to farm in the Tome area. He was preceded in death by his parents. Eloisa Leal Roybal and Manuel Roybal. Manuel is survived by his loving wife, Virginia of 20 years and his daughter, Eve Anne. He is also survived by his children of a previous marriage, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren. Guadalupe Alfonso, (G.A.) Sacoman, age 65, of Albuquerque, died Friday, May 28, 1999. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles P. and Josephine; brothers, Joseph and Charles; and granddaughter, Dana. G.A. is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Ernest A. Sacoman and his wife, Anne; daughters, Deanna Hedrick and husband, Stanley and Angela Jo Sacoman; brothers, Lucas and his wife, Betty, Alfred and his wife, Gloria, Robert and his wife, Norma, and William and his wife, Mary; sister, Selsa Rubio and husband, Arthur; grandchildren: Carlos, Stephen, Annalisa and Cheyanne and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Sacoman was a retired veteran and a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. He was a teacher for 25 years and touch the lives of many students. Mario S. Sanchez, 48, formerly of Tome and now residing in Antonito, CO, passed away on May 28, 1999. Mario was a practicing Christian who loved the Lord. He touched the lives of all who knew him. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all. Mario served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was also very instrumental in the development of several major land developments in New Mexico and South Colorado. Mario was preceded in death by his father, Gilberto in 1993. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Eva; his four children, Zephorah-13, Ivana-11, Aaron-8, and Colorado "C.J. "-6; his mother, Cipriana of Adelino, NM; his brothers and sisters, Lorenzo and his wife, Jeannie; Tomas, Charlie and his wife, Theresa; James and his wife, Joani; Martha, David, Raymond, Alice, Frances, Allen, and Karen June and her husband, Richard Huntley. Mario is also survived by his many loving Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. Catherine W. "Kitty" Sherman, a long-time Albuquerque resident, died at home early Sunday of congestive heart failure. She was 88. She was born in Jefferson City, MO, on September 6, 1910, the daughter of the Rev. Robert and Chlora "McAfee" Warren. She was a registered nurse for many years in Colorado, Texas, Maine, Massachusettes and New Mexico and later was a real estate agent most recently for Steidley Real Estate, now Sun Star Associates, Paul Wiest, Owner-Broker, in Albuqureque. Surviving are one sister, Gladys McClure, King City, MO; four children, Warren Love, Sterling Heights, MI, Barbara Barrow, Boulder, CO, Bill Sherman, Tulsa, OK and Jerry Sherman, Albuquerque. 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express its gratitude to the Lovelace Hospice program for helping to make this experience a positive one. A Memorial Service is being arranged.

Chandi Stemple, 61, born in Lampang, Thailand and now living in Tome, NM passed away peacefully on May 29, 1999.
She was a member of the Peralta Methodist Church.
Chandi was preceded in death by her mother, Quey Taoboonreung in 1989; and her sister, Dungpan in 1998.
She is survived by her loving husband of 27 year, Wayne; along with her son, Jay, both of the family home in Tome; her sister, Chantip Mancewan of Lampang, Thailand.
Chandi is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Peralta. Interment will take place in Lampang, Thailand.

Mary Jane, died May 29, 1999. Loving mother of Hugh and his wife, Lisa, Kristen and Matthew Plaskon and devoted daughter of Mary Fitzgerald; sister of Michael and his wife, Ardell, Edward and his wife, Margaret, Brian Fitzgerald, Esther and her husband, Howard Schnurnberger, and granddaughter, Hayden Barns. Attended Mt. Carmel School, Ridgewood, NJ, Mt. St. Vincent Academy, Tuxedo Park, NY, and Norwalk Nursing School, Norwald, CT. She was a dedicated nurse and kind and generous mother. Her sense of humor, smile, laughter, hugs and forgiving heart will be rememberd by all who knew her. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming, NE, Alb, NM at 2:00 p.m. on June 1, 1999. Daniel Zwilling passed away from this life May 28, 1999, surrounded by his loved ones at home. He was born April 30, 1921 to Virginia and Daniel Zwilling in Geneva, Illinois. He attended Marion Military Institute in Alabama, following graduation, he received two Congressional Appointments. He also became a Naval Air Observer to the US Naval Academy, a submarine Scholar, then served five war patrols on the USS Guardfish. After World War II he was assigned to the USS Marlin for one year. Following his service with the USS Marlin he was then assigned to the USS Atule which made dives under the North Polar Ice Cap. After submarine duty came Navy Flight Training as a Navy Aviator and Tours in the Panama Canal Zone, he served in Norfolk, VA, US Naval Station Kwajalein, Marshall Island and then a final tour in Aviation stationed in Alameda California. Following retirement from military service, Daniel attained two Master's degrees at UNM and taught nine years for APS. Daniel also enjoyed golf, tennis, bowling, and his activities with the Elks, American Legion Post 99, Delta Sigma Pi, KAFB Officers Club and was a dedicated member of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral. He cherished his affiliation with The Brothers of St. Andrews. Daniel loved to dance and that's where he met his wife of nearly eight years, Nancy Zwilling. Daniel was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Segal. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Zwilling, his sister, Virginia Lee and husband, John Johnson of Honolulu, Hawaii; a brother, Dr. William Zwilling and his wife, Dede of Barrington, Illinois. Daniel is also survived by three sons, Daniel R. Zwilling and wife, Roz of Cairo, Nebraska, David F. Zwilling and his wife, LuAnn of Albuquerque, and Mark C. Zwilling of Dallas, Texas. Daniel is also survived by the following family members, David and Jo Artreasian, Deb Woodard, Olga and Jim Russel, Lori Russel; and seven grandkids, Nicole, Carleigh, Gina, Joel, Evan, Jackie and Jeanette. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, at 4:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral on Silver/4th Street with Canon McDougal officiating, with Chaplain "Sandra" of Vista Care Hospice and the Submarine Veterans of New Mexico. The family would like to express their appreciation to Kathy and Wayne from the Vista Care Hospice Unit. Their kindness and loving care brought great strength and peace to the family. Mary Elizabeth Wilson Alexander, a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died Monday, May 29, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Sewell Alexander of Albuquerque; her great-nephew, John E. Pash; great-nieces, Yolonda Pash Krim and Ruth Pash Palmer, all of Rustburg, VA. Mrs. Alexander was born June 8, 1910 in Kentucky. She grew up in Bardstown and Louisville, KY; her parents were Eugenia Moore Pash and Gordon Edmund Wilson; her step-father was Leon Shadburne Beam of Bardstown and Louisville. Mrs. Alexander worked as secretary in the Washington, DC office in Kentucky's U.S. Senator Marvel Mills Logan, for the Resettlement Administration, and for Julius Garfinckel's of Washington, DC in sales; in the 1950's she was briefly secretary to the program director of WHAS Radio in Louisville, then became secretary to the Chief Engineer of Reynolds Metals Corp., working with engineers Bill Hunt and Joe Kosek; she typed the "Rocket Modifications Kit: Assemblies and Facilities", which was used to put John Glenn in space. Mrs. Alexander was also a writer, artist and student of Theology. She was a 1928 graduate of the Kentucky Home School for Girls; she attended the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky for a total of four years; her poems were published by the Conventual Franciscan Fathers and Brothers of Mt. St. Francis, Indiana. Mrs. Alexander studied painting for eight years at the Art Center Association University of Louisville, under Lou Block, an associate of Diego Rivera. Before leaving Louisville in 1965, Mrs. Alexander was member of St. Agnes Church in that city, a member of the Carmel Club, and of the Third Order of St. Dominic. She was a seven year correspondent of Dom James Fox, Abbot of Gethsemani, Trappist, Kentucky. Her hobbies included gardening, interior decorating, and travel to her favorite places in Massachusetts and Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, 12:30 p.m., at the Newman Center on the UNM Campus. Casket bearers will be Bill Lesperance, Carol Lesperance, Trude Erichsen, Tony Espinoza, Joe Marchese and Donald Mullins. Honorary bearers will be Tom Morgan, Tim Bolter, Sue Bolter, Thelma Ortiz and Tony Ellis. Funeral services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. SW.

Final viewing for Mr. Miguel (Mike) Anaya will be this morning, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, where Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m., with Pastor Dan Sanchez officiating.
Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.

Leo H. Ballweg, 57, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, May 29, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Jane Ballweg; brother, Allen J. Ballweg, both of Albuquerque; sister, Ann L. Anderson of Granite Bay, CA; father, Col. Lawrence Ballweg (USAF, Ret.); mother, Ellen Ballweg; parents-in-law, Arthur and Lucille Thoele of Sun City Center, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Ballweg was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
In spite of losing both legs in a sawmill accident, he enjoyed scuba diving and belonged to the Divers Alert Network. He traveled extensively and enjoyed being near the ocean.
Memorial services will be held Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Lemuel M. Boyles officiating. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Sarah A. Blanchard, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 14 years died on May 27, 2000. She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and retired from John Hancock Insurance in 1983. Sarah was past president of Postal Supervisors Auxiliary, and a member of Four Hills Mobile Home Park Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary, N.A.R.F.E. Chapter 1411, and A.A.R.P. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Wilbur H. Blanchard; a daughter, Marlene Hansen, and husband, Dan of Reno, NV; and two grandchildren, Sara Hansen and Daniel Hansen. Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., this afternoon at Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE.
Following the service, friends and family are invited to a Reception of Memory in the Sandia Sunroom.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 525 San Pedro NE, Suite 101, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE
