ORLANDO DANIEL PADILLA, 28, of Santa Fe died Wednesday.
He was born in Los Angeles. He was a 1993 graduate of Santa Fe High School and attended the Santa Fe Community College. He was an excellent roofer and for the last 10 years he was employed by his father at L.P. Roofing Co. He loved to ski and enjoyed dancing.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ubaldo and Gregorita Olivas, and Bobby and Mary Padilla; and cousin, Bobby Joe Chavez.
He is survived by his son, Dominic; parents, Leonard and Virginia Padilla; brothers, Joshua Padilla and fiancée Deeann Chavez, and Leonard Jr. Padilla; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Cathedral with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

NELSON CLARK POTTER, 51, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Dec. 28, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Rutland, Vt. He served in the U.S. Army and Navy during the Vietnam Era as an E-1.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Rogers Chapel with burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery in Rociada.

SAM RAMIREZ, 59, of Springer died Wednesday in Albuquerque.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, a 12-year member of the Springer School Board, a member of the Luna Board of Directors, the New Mexico Highlands University Alumni and Springer Housing Authority.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maliquias and Rosa (Duran) Ramirez.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Ramirez of Springer; daughters, Rosa Sanchez and husband Anthony of Springer; and Rebecca Ramirez of Albuquerque; sons, Gabriel Ramirez and wife Regina of Santa Fe, and Samuel Ramirez of Albuquerque; sisters, Teresa Ortega and husband Art, and Margaret Correa and husband Floyd of Albuquerque; brothers, Richard Ramirez and wife Lela of Glendale, Calif., Buddy Ramirez and wife Rosie of Los Lunas, and Max Ramirez and wife Eva of Springer; four grandchildren; and many other relatives.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Springer with burial to follow at the Springer cemetery.

MERCEDES TRUJILLO, 99, of Chimayó died Saturday.
She was born in Chiquito and grew up among her extended family in Rio Chiquito and the Plaza del Cerro in Chimayó. She received a teaching certificate from the New Mexico Office of Education and taught children from 1st through 8th grade in Rio Chama. She returned to work with her father and mother on the ranch at La Centinela in Chimayó where they raised sheep, cattle, horses, pigs and chickens, and grew chile. She learned to weave from her mother and wove blankets for her brother-in-law. During World War II, while her brothers were off at war, she tended the ranch for her sick father, while raising nephews and nieces, and caring for her father and mother. She was co-founder of the Chimayó chapter of La Cofradia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, and regularly assisted at funerals, baptisms, weddings and other community and church functions. She assisted her father in making wooden coffins and binding the dead of the community. She was active in several community and church projects like building the mission churches in Truchas and Rio Chiquito, and maintaining the Santuario de Chimayó where yearly she participated in the re-plastering of the outside of the church. She was instrumental in establishing the community cemetery in Rio Chiquito.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isidoro and Francisquita O. Trujillo; sister, Teresita T. Jaramillo and husband Severo; sister, Fedelina Trujillo and husband, Adan; brother, Antonio M. Trujillo and wife Sylvia; and brother Jake O. Trujillo and wife Isabelle.
She is survived by her brother, Rosinaldo Trujillo and wife Tillie; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. today at the Holy Family Church in Chimayó with burial to follow at the Rio Chiquito Cemetery.

JOSE BRIGIDO BACA, 53, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Thursday after a brief illness.
He was born in Ojitos Frios. He was a member of the People First Club. He liked reading, listening to music, dancing and drawing. He was a newspaper carrier and delivered papers on Bridge Street. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Baca; and brother, Felipe Baca.
He is survived by his mother, Mariquita Garcia and husband Ruben of Kinsley, Kan.; sisters, Lucinda Orozco and husband Antonio of Española, Mary Suiter of Pratt, Kan., Pauline Tapia and husband James of Romeroville, and Lisa Smith and husband Paul of Owasso, Okla.; brothers, Nash Baca and wife Margie of Dodge City, Kan., Johnny and Greg Baca of Kinsley, Kan.; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in St. Frances Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the same church with burial to follow at Ojitos Frios Cemetery.

EUFELIA MARTINEZ BENAVIDEZ, 92, of Pecos died Thursday.
She was born in Colonias and was a member of St. Anthony's Parish in Pecos.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro Martinez and Anita Garcia; husband, Jose Benavidez; brothers, Rueben Martinez, Adan Martinez and Estanislado Martinez; sisters, Consuelo Martinez and Clara Bugell; and sons, Ricardo Benavidez, Orlando Benavidez and Elefio Benavidez.
She is survived by her sons, Manuel Ortega and wife Margo, Roberto Ortega and wife Prescilliana, Modesto Benavidez and wife Patricia, Timoteo Benavidez and wife Elizabeth, and Delfin Benavidez and wife Annabelle; daughters, Sabina Brophy, Thelma Benavidez, Cora Ruiz and husband Fidel, and Mary Ann Benavidez; 39 grandchildren; and many other relatives.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pecos. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the same church with burial to follow.

CARLA ORTIZ DEAN, 39, of Santa Fe died Friday.
She loved to cook and collect Mickey Mouse memorabilia.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Roxanna Archuleta; and grandparents, Julian and Florida Ortiz and Ambrosio and Donelia Archuleta.
She is survived by her son, Richard Ortiz and companion Elena; mother, Inez Vigil of La Mesilla; father, Julian Ortiz Jr. and wife JoAnn of La Villita; brothers, Donnie and wife Brenda of Arroyo Seco, Timmy Ortiz of La Villita, Robert Castillo and Andrew Vigil and his companion Amanda of La Mesilla; sisters, Annette Vigil of La Villita, Denise Trujillo and husband Johnny of Hernandez, Julie Romero of La Villita and Patricia Archuleta of El Guique; boyfriend, Gene Sandoval of Santa Fe; one granchild; and many other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Alcalde. A second rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the same church. Mass will celebrated Monday (time pending) at the same church with burial to follow at La Villita Cemetery.
