Our beloved "Grandpa Ed" Eduardo R. His faith in God, his spirituality, and his tremendous devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, were a principle part of his daily life. Mr. Varela touched the lives of everyone he met and most of the people in Pecos including the community of the Benedictine Monastery in a special way. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, a well respected individual and was loved very much. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Varela was married to Carmen Vigil-Varela for 45 years and was blessed with four daughters and three sons. Mr. Varela was a millwright for 40 years, built his own sawmill free handedly and that was his livelihood. He worked hard all his life, and was a great example to his family, friends and everyone he knew. God saw that he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be; so he put his arms around him and whispered, "Come with me", with tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard hands to rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best!
