Ms. Mary Frances Mendez, 68, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on June 25, 2000. Mrs. Mendez was born in Fort Sumner, NM on July 22, 1931. She was a U.S. West retiree and a graduate of St. Marys High School. Ms. Mendez was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Albertina Mendez. She is survived by her sisters, Clara Lucero and husband, Manuel; an aunt, Corina Gauna of Clovis; five nieces, Cynthia Griggs, Pamela Salas and fiance, Alvin, Antoinette Rivas and husband, Ray, Nancy Moya, Jennifer Mauricio and husband, Andres, all of Albuquerque; 11 grandnieces and grandnephews; four great-grandnieces and nephews; cousins in Fort Sumner, Clovis, Roswell, Santa Fe, California, Nevada and Albuquerque. She leaves behind many relatives and friends in Albuquerque. Ms. Mendez was a member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW, with visitation after 6:30 p.m. Gabriella Nieto reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, 11:00 a.m., at Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac SW, with visitation at the church after 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Montoya, Dominic Rivas, Fernando Moya, Jason Rivas, Jackie Salas and Monique Garcia. Honorary will be Robert Gutierrez, Julian Moya, Matthew Salas and Jerilyn Salas. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW, in charge of arrangements.

Ida M. Peterson, 97, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989, died Saturday, June 24, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Thal; granddaughter, Gayle Nicholas; great-grandson, Andrew Nicholas; and great-granddaughter, Allyson Nicholas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy G. Peterson; sisters, Mary Smith and Kate Mainville. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be in Illinois. Donations may be made to The Sandia Hospice Foundation, 4725 Indian School Rd. 87110. French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming, NE.

Russel E. Rea, 89, a longtime resident of Tularosa, died Friday, June 23, 2000 in Albuquerque. Mr. Rea was born May 17, 1911 in Raynoldsville, Pennsylvania. In 1933, he received a Bachelor's degree in Forestry from Penn State University where he was a member of Xi Sigma Pi fraternity. He began his career with the Department of Agriculture in the Forest Service in Florida, South Carolina and Georgia. He moved west in 1949 to Flagstaff, Arizona. He became the supervisor of the Coconino National Forest in Arizona, the Kiabab National Forest in Arizona, the Gila National Forest near Silver City, and the Lincoln National Forest near Silver City, from which he retired in 1966. While supervisor of Lincoln National Forest, he received the U.S.D.A. Unit Award for Superior Service in 1962. He married Phyllis U. Wooten in 1957, and they built a home in Tularosa following his retirement. He enjoyed his retirement by hunting and fishing, especially trips to Navajo Lake. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of the family home; his children, Jim Rea and his wife, Zhita of Los Angeles, DeLois Gum and her husband, Neil of Phoenix, John Rea of Phoenix, and Jeff Wooten and his wife, Deanie of Albuquerque; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Vera Rea of Dubois, PA, and Elsie Rea of Warren, PA. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Tularosa United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Richardson and the Rev. Dick Harnett officiating. Interment will follow in the Tularosa Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home, 1334 N. Scenic Dr., Alamogordo.

Joseph "Joe" Shultz, 79, a resident of Camlu Assisted Living for the last 2 years, died Saturday, June 24, 2000. He is survived by his daughter, Judith S. Garner and husband, Gerald of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Stacy Wisniewski and husband, David of Albuquerque; grandsons, Gerald Garner Jr. and wife, Charone of Chloride, NM, and Joseph P. Garner and fiancé, Kelly Ozment of Albuquerque; sister, Anne Cox of New Albany, Indiana; nephews, Larry Cox and wife, Carol, of Lanesville, Ind, and John Carmickle and wife, Jerri of San Diego, CA; and niece, Linda Davis and husband, Danny of Greenville, Ind. His wife, Lena "Jenny" Brunson Shultz preceded him in death on November 7, 1997. He was born in Beaver Dam, Kentucky on July 21, 1920. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, as a switchman, in El Paso, until his retirement when he moved to Hot Coffee, Mississippi. In November of 1997, he moved to Albuquerque to be close to his daughter and family. He was a beloved father and grandfather, who's daughter and son-in-law and grandchildren enjoyed his 21/2 years in Albuquerque and will deeply miss him. Graveside Services will be held in Taylorsville, Mississippi on Thursday, June 29, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. Arthur H. Spiegel, beloved father, grandfather and dear friend, died on June 25, 2000 with all his family with him. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 15, 1908, the second child of Arthur H. Spiegel and Mae O. Spiegel (nee Oberfelder). He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1927 and Dartmouth College in 1931. After graduation he joined a family mail order business, Walter Field and Company. He married Eleanor Friedman on January 1, 1937. In 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Spiegel, with their three children, moved from Chicago to Albuquerque. From 1949 to 1960, Mr. Spiegel was President of the Arthur Stuart Company. In 1963, he established Arthur H. Spiegel Investments, an investment advisory and counseling business which he sold to Fiduciary Trust International in 1977. From 1977 until his retirement in 1995, he was a consultant with Fiduciary Trust International. Mr. Spiegel was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor, the mother of their three children, who died in 1968. His second wife, Elizabeth Mayer, whom he married in 1970, died in 1997. Mr. Spiegel is survived by his loving and devoted children and grandchildren, his oldest son, Arthur H. Spiegel III, his wife, Pollock, their children, Julia M. Spiegel, her husband, Bernard Lunn, Adam Spiegel (Spike Jonze), his wife, Sofia Coppola and Samuel J. Spiegel; his daughter, Margaret (Marnie) Collister, her husband, Douglas H. Collister, their children, Douglas A. Collister, Eleanor (Ellie) Collister Garcia, her husband, Toby Garcia; his youngest son, Joseph (Jeff) Spiegel, his wife, Katie Gardner, their children, Jesse Spiegel, Ben Spiegel and Suzanne Spiegel. In addition, Mr. Spiegel is also survived by the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from his second marriage to Elizabeth. Her three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Gordon Winkler, Judy and Bob Barnet, Elizabeth Buchannek and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his dedicated friend of 47 years, Ruby Hooker. Mr. Spiegel was blessed with enduring optimism throughout his long and productive life, and he profoundly influenced and helped many individuals and organizations in Albuquerque and throughout the country. He deeply loved and encouraged his children and grandchildren and set a wonderful example for them to follow through his many philanthropic activities. He gave generously of his time, energy and finances to a wide variety of causes and interests. Some of his many interests are reflected in the list of the following organizations he helped and the awards he was accorded. He was a member of the Presbyterian Hospital Board of Directors, from 1956-currently Emeritus; Founder and first President of the New Mexico Council on Crime and Delinquency in 1962, continued to serve on Board of Directors, Chairman 1962-1964; Campaign Chairman of the Albuquerque United Fund during the successful 1962 Fund Drive. (United Way of Greater Albuquerque); Served two years, 1963-1964, as President of the Albuquerque United Fund; Received Citation for Distinguished Service from the New Mexico Chapter Public Relations Society of America-1968; Founding member of Presbyterian Hospital Center Foundation and Vice Chairman in 1968; Board Member June Music Festival, 1968-1984, President 1968, Chairman 1975-1984; Presbyterian Hospital Board Vice Chairman and Executive Committee member, 1969-1978; Santa Fe Opera Board of Directors, 1968-1979; Received Navajo Community College Daa-jo Baaii Days Award for outstanding service to Navajo Community College-1971; Executive Committee of the Governor's Prayer Breakfast, Chairman, 1971-1994; Instrumental in establishing Governor's Organized Crime Prevention Commission in 1972; Chairman 1972-1977; Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Board Member 1973-1976; Principal fundraiser for the Cultural Center; National Ghost Ranch Foundation Board Member, Treasurer, 1973-1983; Chairman of the Marion K. VanDevanter Fund Drive, for Presbyterian Hospital, to build a new extended care facility for the elderly, raising over $1,300,000, 1978-1979; Received the National Conference of Christians and Jews Award-1978; Received the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Award-1979; Received the Jefferson Day Award-1979; Received the Law Day Liberty Bell Award-1981; Received the National Jewish Hospital and National Asthma Center Humanitarian Award-1982; Inducted into the Albuquerque Senior Citizens Hall of Fame-1984; Board Member of the National Jewish Hospital and National Asthma Center, 1984-1996; Symphony Honoring both Mr. and Mrs. Spiegel by the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra-1986; Honored with Silver Anniversary dedication by the New Mexico Council on Crime & Delinquency-1987; Founding Board Member and Treasurer of the Rio Grande Institute (later changed name to the Santa Fe Institute); Received Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation's 20th Award for Excellence-1988; Helped organize and was major fundraiser for the National History Museum; Board Member of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and tireless fundraiser for the Symphony over many years; Received Outstanding Philanthropist Award for the State of New Mexico-1992; Received Lifetime Achievement Award from National Jewish Center for Immunology & Respiratory-1997; Received Special Grant Award from the Albuquerque Community Foundation to the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra in celebration of 90th Birthday and in appreciation of philanthropic contributions to the community-1998; Honored by the New Mexico Council on Crime and Delinquency for leadership-1999. Mr. Spiegel will be deeply missed by his family and the many individuals and organizations he helped and so greatly influenced. However, his many good deeds and wonderful memories will endure and inspire all of those that knew him. William W. Sullivan, Lt. Col. (Ret.), 76, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, June 24, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Dolores of the family home; sons, Patrick Sullivan and wife, Rita of San Jose, CA, Martin Sullivan and wife, Kelly, Shawn Sullivan and wife, Phyllis, and James Sullivan and wife, Christine, all of Albuquerque; daughter, Maureen Cotter and husband, Barry of Gilbert, AZ; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy O'Brien and husband, Ed of St. Cloud, MN, and Kathleen Sullivan of Austin, TX; brother, Larry Sullivan and wife, Carolyn of Austin, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He retired as a Lt. Col. from the U.S. Air Force. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. at Holy Ghost Church, 833 Arizona SE. Elmo Raiford Tracey, 76, a lifetime resident of Corona, NM, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2000 in Albuquerque. Elmo was born July 7, 1923 at the family homestead near Corona, NM to Alexander Raiford and Edna Leona (Dishman) Tracey. Elmo married Emma Magdlen Boehm on July 7, 1944 in Oakland, CA, she survives him of the home. Other survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Tracey of Corona, NM, Loren and Pam Tracey of Corona, NM, Nolan and Bonnie Tracey of Albuquerque; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cherry and Bill Thompson of Medford, OR, Dawn and Wayne Johns of Albuquerque, Rhonda and Gary Garlick of Albuquerque, and Courtney Brown of Albuquerque; one brother, Glyn Tracey; two sisters, Ruth Fahr and Bobbie Lee Tracey; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one grandson, Forest Tracey was raised by Elmo and Babe. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Shane Tracey in 1989; and one brother, Burnell Tracey. Elmo will lie in state at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, Thursday, June 29, 2000, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A Funeral service will be held to celebrate the life of Elmo, Friday, June 30, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at the Tracey Family Homestead near Corona. Burial will follow at the Tracey Family Homestead Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his son, grandsons, and grandsons-in-law. Jim Young, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since February 1959, died Saturday, June 24, 2000. He is survived by his daughters, Tina Welker, MD and husband, Frank, Susan Alcon and husband, Rick, all of Albuquerque, and Debra Weeks and husband, Chad of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Sara, Karee, Kristen, Cassie, and Stevie; sisters, Donna Andrews of Dallas, TX and Linda Young of Iowa City, IA. He was preceded in death by his father, Philip Young in 1952; mother, Edith Young in 1947; brother, Robert Young in 1980; second wife, Patricia Young in 1987; and daughter, Lori Lynn in 1960. Mr. Young worked for Sandia Labs for 31 years before retiring in 1990. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and music in which he played with the Barely OK Trio. Jim will be missed by his family, friends, and his good friend, Archie. Cremation has taken place and a reception will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2000, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. LENY KAYLENE BIBEAU, 55, of Los Alamos died Saturday in Las Vegas, N.M. She was born Jan. 16, 1945, to Rufus M. Sprague Sr. and Marie C. Sprague in Bakersfield, Calif. She was a faithful Christian. She lived in Los Alamos for over 20 years. She enjoyed oil painting. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her caretaker and lifelong friend, Rowland Bibeau; daughters Babette Bibeau of Odessa, N.Y., and Joanna Gillespie and husband Ken of Lafayette, Colo.; sisters Donna M.C. Severson and husband Ken of Auburn, Wash., Joanna R. Sprague of Kennewich, Wash., and Elaine F. Miller of Auburn, Wash.; brother, Rufus Sprague Jr. and wife Ann of Sumner, Wash.; and grandchildren Jeremiah Balliett, Jordan Gillespie and Parker Gillespie. ROSA HUERENA BLEA, 87, died Sunday in Pecos following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose M. Blea; daughters Edna Blea and Julia Mijangos; grandson, Jason Waters; and granddaughter, Alice Calvillo. She is survived by her children Barbara Blea, Rebecca Calvillo, Santiago Blea, Jose B. Blea, Manuel Blea, Rosa Escobar, Marta Evans, Carlos Blea, Amado Blea and John Blea; and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pecos with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday at the same church. MARGARET L. GUTIERREZ, 83, of El Llano died Sunday. She worked as an elementary school teacher for 39 years, mostly with the Española School District. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernesto Gutierrez. She is survived by her children Lourdes Gutierrez of Fairview, Ernest Gutierrez of Velarde, and Angela Salazar of Bloomfield; granddaughters Theresa and Christina Gutierrez, Pam Wendler, Ana Lucia Moe and Consuelo C. Meza; grandsons Emiliano Salazar, Levi Gutierrez and Miguel Salazar; brothers, Joe Lopez of California and Norbert Lopez and wife Daysi of Fairview; sister, Antonia Medina of Fairview; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Lopez of Santa Fe, Emma Godfrey of Albuquerque, Zorida Ortega and husband Eulogio of Velarde, and Eliza Ferrar of Los Luceros; brothers-in-law, Sam Gutierrez and wife Isabel of Los Luceros, Ray Gutierrez, Fidel Gutierrez and wife Angie, all of Velarde, and Mark Gutierrez of Denver; and 13 great-grandchildren. MAXIMINO MANZANARES, 76, of Bernalillo and formerly of Abiquiu, died Friday at an Albuquerque Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maximino and Rosana Manzanares; brothers Joe and Morris Manzanares; and sisters, Alice Miller and Beatrice Vigil. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Maria Cirila Manzanares of Bernalillo; son, Arcenio Manzanares and wife Gina of Bernalillo; granddaughters Adrianna and Alice Manzanares, both of Bernalillo; and grandson, Archie Manzanares of Bernalillo; brothers Bennie Manzanares and wife Eufelia of Española, and Herman Manzanares and wife Eleanor of Abiquiu; sisters Mary Flores of Santa Rosa, Sally Williams of Glendale, Ariz., and Lita Herbert and friend George of Denver; and numerous other relatives and friends. MARGARITO TRUJILLO SR., 90, of Rociada died Saturday at the Northeastern Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Alfonso; and nephews, Leroy Trujillo and Pedro Martinez. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Aurora C. Trujillo of Rociada; daughters, Ambrocita Gallegos of Pueblo, Colo., Virginia Gonzales and companion Tony of Rociada, Gloria Gonzales and husband Horace of Questa, Margaret Smith and companion David of Nine Miles Falls, Wash., and Petra de Herrera of Taos; sons Margarito Trujillo Jr. of Garden Grove, Calif., Charlie Trujillo and wife Maria Rose of Gascon, Jose Trujillo and wife Bernadette of Gascon, and Floyd Trujillo and wife Grace Elva of Las Vegas, N.M.; sister, Encarnacion Martinez of Las Vegas, N.M.; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Helen F. Malott Ball. Funerals Services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church for Helen F. Ball, who died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Dr. Spiller Milton, Pastor, First United Methodist Church will officiate the Service. Interment will be in the Lafayette Protestant Cemetery. Mrs. Ball was a native of Port Arthur, Texas, the daughter of the late Morton Raymond Malott and the former Edna Lenhardt both natives of Kansas. She was a resident of Rosewood Assisted Living Community for the past 2 1/2 years. Mrs. Ball will be deeply missed. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was devoted to her faith and to other people. She was an active officer in the Salvation Army for 46 years retiring with the rank of brigadier. Her career in the Salvation Army began in 1933 when she attended Training College in Atlanta, GA. In 1935, she became cashier and bookkeeper for Susan Speed Home & Hospital in Louisville, KY. On June 9, 1937, she married Robert Ball in Louisville, KY. In 1940, she was assigned to U.S.O. as Club Organizer. In 1974, she was appointed Director of First Senior Citizen's Residence in the Southern Territory in Fort Worth, TX. In 1970, she was with the Texas Divisional Band until her retirement in 1979. She attended Bringle Institute and National Congress on Evangelism. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Robert S. Ball of Lafayette; one daughter, Phyllis Gautreaux and husband, Al of Lafayette, LA; one son, Robert E. Ball and wife, Shelia of Chama, NM; two sisters, Pearl Holmes of Colorado Springs, CO and Evangeline Evans and husband, Don of Bryant, AR; one brother, Roy Malott and wife, Thelma of Whilmington, NC; six grandchildren, Robin Dismore, Michael Wike, Catherine Cantu, James Ball, Slade Ball, and Frank Loyd; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Wike, Kali-Michael Wike, Shane Dismore, Michaela Dismore, Ashley Cantu, and Kelsey Cantu. She was preceded in death by her parents; one great-granddaughter, Naomi Joy Dismore; and one sister, Fern Gildea. Visiting hours will be observed at the funeral home on Thursday, June 28, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at First United Methodist on Friday, June 29, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Joe Sam Boren, 84, passed away Monday, June 25, 2001. He is survived by his loving wife, Emily Boren; daughter, Linda G. Boren; son, Sam J. Boren and wife, Dorothy; grandchildren, Sam Christopher Boren and wife, Michele and Stacy Mitchell and husband, Miles; and great-grandchildren, Christopher and Cassie Boren and Chance Mitchell. Sam was born May 14, 1917 to Willie and Thena Corley Boren in Paris, TX. Sam moved to Albuquerque in 1936 and was employed by The Oden Motor Co. He married Emily in 1939. In 1945, he started his own business on East Central Avenue and was a very successful tire dealer and was respected for his honesty and integrity. Sam was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was past member of 20-30 Club, the optimist Club and Better Business Bureau. Sam volunteered his help in many civic projects. Funeral Services for Mrs. Gregoria Espinosa will be held on Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Charlie O. Harrison, 75, passed away on June 24, 2001. He was preceded by his loving wife of 42 years, Corine Harrison; and his brother, Ray Harrison of Pueblo Colorado. A devoted father and grandpa, he is survived by his daughters, Virginia Harrison, Jeanette Torres and husband, Danny, Loretta Gurule and husband, Al; grandchildren, Robert Sanchez and wife, Stella, Melissa Garcia and husband, Tom, Kimberly and Kevin Torres, Jennifer Harrison, Alisha, Dominic, Matthew and Avery Gurule; great-grandchildren, Amanda and James Garcia, Alisia and Steven Sanchez; sister-in-law, Sophie Harrison from Pueblo Colorado; brothers, Arthur Harrison and wife, Martha, Albert Harrison and wife, Rosie; sister, Linda Ortiz and husband, Pete; and five other brothers and sisters. Charlie was a proud World War II Veteran that served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He is also a member of the American Legion. He retired after working for 40 years as a manager with Sherwin Williams Paint Store. Charlie was a very devoted Catholic at the Nativity Church where he enjoyed serving as an usher for many years. The family would like to thank the staff of Casa Maria Alzheimer Center for the many years of loving care and Presbyterian Hospice staff for their kindness and devotion in his time of need. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Dr. NW with Father Hoi Tran Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Margie Keeney, 62, a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died Saturday, June 23, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, David K. Keeney; sons, Mike Keeney and wife, Kristin, of Albuquerque, and Wayland Keeney and wife, Linda, of Tribune, KS; daughter, Tammy Randolph and husband, Mark, of Tribune, KS; eight grandsons; brothers, Don Noel and wife, Mildred, Ralph Noel and wife, Terrie, all of Minford, OH, and Kenneth Noel, and wife, Gloria of Portsmouth, OH; and sister, Marilyn Wicker and husband, Ron, of Missouri. Louis Herman Martin Learsch, 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, June 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Learsch of Albuquerque; nephew, Robert C. Learsch of Boise, ID; niece, Liesa Denardo of Oakland, NJ; and four great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Calvin Learsch. Mr. Learsch was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Cornerstone-Tyrian Masonic Lodge in Linden, NJ; the Valley of Trenton Scottish Rite, New Jersey; and the Ballut Abyad Temple in Albuquerque. Memorial Services will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria NE (299-3621). The day and time will be announced at a later date. Rochelle Lemajeur, 3, died Sunday, June 24, 2001. She is survived by her father, Thomas; mother, Linda; grandparents, Gerda and Willis Young, all of Albuquerque and Roger and Rita Lemajeur of Chicago, IL; brothers, Kevin and Steven Lemajeur of Albuquerque; five uncles, Snake, Erwin, Ralph, Danny, and Cody; six aunts, Evelyn, Erika, Rena, Sheree, Margaret and Sonya; and 13 nieces and nephews, Scott, James, Tammy, Rachel, Karen, Roger, Bryana, Michele, Lisa, Dale, Mikey, little Danny and Samantha. She was preceded in death by her brother, Brandon. Services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 210 Alvarado Drive SE, with Pastor John Heffelfinger officiating. Arthur Edson Loy, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, June 22, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Henrietta Loy of the family home; children, Laura Loy Dennison of Centennial, CO and husband, Dan Dennison and David Edson Loy of Fremont, CA and wife, Laura Morgan Loy; grandchildren, Fletcher Dennison, Benjamin Loy and Rebecca Loy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Edson Loy and Helen Opperman. Arthur came to Albuquerque in 1930. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1932, received his B. Ed. at the University of New Mexico in 1938, and his Masters- in musicology at Berkeley in 1949. Arthur served in the Army during World War II. He taught for 39 years in the Albuquerque Public Schools at Washington and Jefferson Junior High Schools, and at Highland High School, where he was chairman of the fine arts department and taught humanities, choral music and music theory. He retired in 1977. Very active in Albuquerque music circles, he had been a member of the boards of the June Music Festival, Albuquerque Symphony, and KHFM. He was a founding member and original program director of this classical music radio station in 1953. He had a deep appreciation for nature and the environment, taking many photographs to support the establishment of wilderness areas in New Mexico. In addition, he used his skills as a photographer to create a complete, statewide pictorial archive of historic and contemporary churches. He also delighted in writing poetry and satirical articles. Arthur enjoyed camping, picnicking and hiking. With a good friend and hiking companion, he discovered in 1979 the fossilized remains of a new species of dinosaur, seismosaurus (the longest dinosaur ever discovered) that is on display at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, Claremont and Vermont Streets, with reception following at the Loy's residence. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Photo Archives at the Albuquerque Museum, 2000 Mountain Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM, 87104, Attn: Mo Palmer.
