John Vernon Carlin, passed away August 1, 2003. He was born March 12, 1953 in Biloxi, MS. He was the beloved son of Dolores V. Carlin, brother of Jesse R. Carlin and friend to and of many. Also survived by aunt Barbara Carlin Shahan of Mentor-On-The-Lake, Ohio, uncle James Melton of Longview, TX. He is preceded in death by his father, Maj. John J. Carlin, sister-in-law, Julie Carlin and nephew, Robert Carlin. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Josephine Priscilla Chacon, age 35, a resident of Albuquerque passed away August 5, 2003. She was born on September 18, 1967 in Cuba, NM to Ralph and Lorraine Gallegos. Survivors include her daughter, Samantha Chacon of Rio Rancho; son, Jason Gallegos of Albuquerque; parents Ralph and Lorraine Gallegos of Albuquerque; sister, Judy Trujillo of Rio Rancho; brothers, Ralph Gallegos and wife Patty of Anchorage, AK, James Gallegos and wife Carrie of Ft. Benning, GA; Lawrence Gallegos and wife Corey of Albuquerque; many nieces, nephews and friends. A rosary will be recited 7:00 pm, Friday, August 8, 2003 in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 am, Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary 9502 4th NW. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Priscilla G. Gallegos, 86, a resident of Belen, reached her arms up to grasp her husband Jose's hand who passed away in 1998, to be led by him to their home in heaven to be with the Lord at 8:03 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2003. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She was a full time mother; and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her great joy beyond measure. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marie, in 1938; and her granddaughter Monica Marie in 1972; and her two sisters, Mary A. Chavez and Nora Callahan; and one brother, John Nepomoseno. She is survived by her ten children, Joe Maurice and his wife, Josephine of Grants, NM, Rose Marie Moya and her husband, Norbert, Mary Esther Ulivarri and her husband, Gilbert, and Manuel Gallegos and his wife, Frances all of Belen, Marcella Montano and her husband, Dale of El Paso, TX, Barbara Harris and her husband, Rick, and Chris Gallegos, all of Las Vegas, NV, Liz Gallegos Holmes and her husband, Clay of Rio Rancho, NM, Rudy Gallegos and Antonette Torres of Belen, NM, and Margo G. Pena and Margo's sons, Johnathan and Joshua Pena, all of the family home in Belen, NM; and a very special daughter-in-law, Dahlia Gallegos also of Belen; her 19 grandchildren; and 20 great- grandchildren. Priscilla is also survived by her two brothers, John E. Garcia and his wife, Corrina of Chaparral, NM, and Tom C. Callahan and his wife, Darlene of Kingman, AZ; her very special niece, Virgie Machorro; and her great- niece, Marsha Quesada, both of California; and her many loving nieces, nephews and friends. All of Priscilla's children would like to thank their sister, Margo and her two sons, Johnathan and Joshua Pena, for the dedicated and loving care they gave to their mother since their father, Jose passed away. All services will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a visitation on Sunday, August 10, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Priscilla's name on Monday at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Robert D. Bob Kaufman was called home by the Lord, Thursday, August 7, 2003 Bob was born Saturday, February 16, 1929 in Nebraska to Mary Ann and Leo Kaufman. He suffered from heart and lung disease over the past several years. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara M (Brown) Kaufman; sons, Robert D. Don and wife, Bonnie; Randy L. and wife, Francie; daughter, Lynn D. and husband, Dave Davis; 7 grandchildren, Nicole and Eric Kaufman; Josh, Leighton, and Mandi Kaufman; Tami and Lori Davis. He is also survived by his precious companions and sidekicks, his dogs, Rags and Mittens. Bob moved with his family from Nebraska to California when he was 9 years old. He resided there until at the age of 17 he joined the Air force. He was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. It was then that he met the love of his life Barbara and they were wed on April 2, 1949. After being discharged from the Air Force, Bob enrolled and completed the Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship Program. He became a Licensed Journeyman Plumber. He worked for several plumbing contractors until 1963 when he opened the doors of Kaufman Plumbing and Heating, Inc. He retired in 1990. Bob served as an instructor for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship Program, was President of the Mechanical Contractors Association, and a member of the American Arbitration Association. Bob was also a member of the BPOE # 461. Harwood United Methodist Church was the church where Bob was an active member since 1954. He served the church in numerous areas until his death. He was private pilot and enjoyed flying for several years. Many things brought Bob joy throughout his life, he spent many weekends at Elephant Butte Lake teaching his children and grandchildren the ins and outs of boating, water skiing, and fishing. Bob loved to golf and for a couple of years did so once a week until about a year ago. Bob, Barbara, Rags and Mittens traveled with special old-time friends and made many new friends through their motor home club. He loved and took great pride in his yard and gardening. He enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels that visited on his back patio. Bob also enjoyed visiting the area casinos now and again, hoping to hit the big one. He was kind, compassionate, generous, loving, giant of a man with an ornery streak that anyone who knew him experienced. His family was the most important thing in his life. He was a great and honorable husband, father, papa and friend. He will be deeply missed, but will always and forever be in our hearts. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Monday, August 11, 2003 at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Rev. Andy Husted of HUMC, officiating. Robert Kikumoto. Our dear beloved son, father, brother, nephew, and uncle left us unexpectedly on August 6, 2003. Robert was born on September 3, 1966 in Salt Lake City. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a child he skipped crawling because he wanted to run everywhere. His vocabulary was very advanced and he frequently used adult terms to express himself. Robert was raised in Salt Lake City and Sandy, Utah. At an early age, he loved being in the outdoors fishing and hunting. He wasn't above poaching a quail from the grounds of a nearby restaurant so he could have a tasty breakfast. He attended Brighton High School where he joined the Rodeo Club and later became a good bull rider. He and his family enjoyed traveling to all of the high school rodeo events so Robert could compete in
Bull Riding. He qualified and rode in the Utah High School Rodeo Finals. Robert joined the Air Force National Guard after graduating from Brighton High School. He was a good student and obtained an Associates Degree from Salt Lake Community College and later attended the University of Utah and the University of Colorado where he majored in History. He began his career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Utah as a Computer Operator. He later transferred to Denver in 1988 to work at BC&BS. Throughout his career he exhibited an excellent work ethic. He often worked long hours and did whatever it took to get the system working. He loved the world of technology and staying abreast of the new developments in the industry. He became an expert in telephony, which gave him a great sense of pride because he could use those tools to serve his colleagues with world-class service. He was a great server to all, not expecting recognition but just requesting respect. Everyone loved him because of his warm demeanor and tenderness. He loved working at BC&BS regardless of the location. He knew the value they brought to the community. He also loved old trucks and took great pride in having 200,000 miles on each vehicle. He was a man's man who loved the great outdoors. The pride of his life was his daughter, Karissa. He loved her dearly, spending endless hours teaching her to fish and working with her on her homework. He taught her the importance of living the principles of a Latter-Day Saint. Robert is survived by his parents, David and Nanette Kikumoto of Greenwood Village, CO; sister, Mollee Kikumoto of Lakewood, CO; brothers, Christian Kikumoto of Greenwood Village, CO, and Charles and AJ Kikumoto of Orem, UT; grandparents, Sam and Frances Kikumoto of Maui, HI, and Lynn R Poulsen of Mt. Pleasant, UT; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gwen Poulsen. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2003, 2:00 p.m., at the LDS Chapel in Edgewood, NM, with Bishop Ellibee conducting. Interment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Mt. Frank D. Lopez, 42, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 3, 2003, with his wife and daughters by his side. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife Liz Lozano-Lopez and two daughters, Sarah and Hannah; parents, Crecencio and Rosie Lopez; in-laws, Gabriel and Lydia Lozano; brothers, Arthur Lopez, of Denver, Co., Steve Lopez,Sr, and wife Inez, and Rick Lopez; sisters, Irene Torrez, and husband., Larry; Marie Garcia, and husband Randy;, Lorraine Griner, and husband Andy; Renee Graston and Barbara Chavez; sisters-in-law, Pearl Lozano and Annabell Lopez all of Albuquerque, NM; brother-in-law, Gabriel Lozano, and wife Sharon of San Antonio, TX; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernie and Mike Lopez. Frank was a devoted husband and father, who cherished every moment with his wife and daughters, especially Father-Daughter dances and family vacations. He was a wonderful friend, neighbor and son, who always had a smile for everyone and was an inspiration to all. Of his 22 years as a UPS Driver, Frank most enjoyed his 15 years working with the merchants of Old Town. He endeared himself to them with his caring personality and willingness to lend a hand. To him, it was more than just a job. He was Mr. UPS!! He was also a member of Teamsters Local 492, where he served as an alternate shop steward. Frank was a master gardener and craftsman, who worked tirelessly to provide a loving and caring home for his family friends. We will always remember your great sense of humor and zest for life. Evelyn M. Lujan, 68 (39), passed away on August 6, 2003. She was born on February 16, 1935 in Albuquerque, NM. Evelyn was a parishioner at the San Jose Catholic Church for 45 years, a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and President of the Sacred Heart League, she recited many rosaries for the parishioners through out the San Jose Cummunity, was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul and she also took communion to the sick. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Andres and son Anthony. Evelyn is survived by her son, John Lujan; daughters, Darlene Rodriguez and fiance, Kenneth Cooper, Lucille Lujan-Sanchez and husband, Michael and Elizabeth Henley; brother, Beltran Chavez Jr. and wife, Eva; sisters, Cippy Saavedra, Gladys (Parientita) Chavez, Rosemary Garcia, Henrietta Tenorio, Gerri Chavez-Romero and husband Zack and Grace Chavez; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Lisa Gay (Economides) Mullaney, age 43, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, departed this world to be with her Lord August 7, 2003. Lisa was born in Santa Ana, California, November 20, 1959 and grew up in Albuquerque and Dallas, Texas. She was a great music lover, enjoying playing the piano and guitar and her greatest love - singing. She was a graduate of Eldorado High School and attended UNM for three years during which time she was a house manager of Popejoy Hall. Her education was interrupted with a bout with cancer, which she valiantly battled over 20 years. She developed great expertise on the computer and combined with her gift of organization, used her skills effectively in her jobs with K-TECH at the Particle Beam Fusion Accelerator and as the business manager for the Northwest Rio Grande Soccer League. She was a soccer coach and soccer mom. She loved a cappella singing and was a member of the "Doo-Wops" a cappella group, the Turquoise Trail ladies barbershop chorus and led other a cappella ladies groups. She was a lover of the outdoors and spent many wonderful times camping with her husband and son. She was always looking for ways to help others, encouraging those fighting her same disease, lending her computer and organizational skills and reaching out to those in need, never asking for anything in return. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at age 12 and her faith has sustained her through all her struggles. According to her son Jack, "She was the best mom ever ". She was a wonderful wife and the truest of friends to many. Sadly, there is one less white mini-van on the roads of Albuquerque, full of nieces, nephews, smiles, soccer balls, bicycles, fish poles, car seats, singing, crayons, schoolwork, and french fries. She is survived by her husband, Christopher; 7 year old co-pilot and son, Jack; sister and brother- in- law, Cheryl and Rob Armstrong; her consistently supportive and loving parents, Jim and Renee Economides; nieces and nephews, Jamie, Sean, Jessica, Josiah, Keri, Cheri and Danea Armstrong; aunts and uncles, Marcia and Floyd Veatch, Lana and Charles Ross, Paul and Mary Economides, Kathy and Monty Preonas; children, cousins, Laura George and children, Carin Darr, Marc Veatch and daughter. There will be a viewing Sunday, August 10, 2003 between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. A Funeral Service will be held at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy N.E. at 1:30 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2003. A reception will follow the service where her friends and relatives can visit. The Interment Service will be held immediately following at Sunset Memorial Park on Menual Blvd. NE. Elizabeth "Tommie" Simonton, 99, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 7, 2003. She is survived by her son-in-law, Charles Warner of Rio Rancho; granddaughter, Beverly Ponder of Ft. Worth, Texas; two grandsons, James and Bryan Warner both of Rio Rancho; six great- grandchildren, Benjamin, Carolyn, David, Amy, Paul and Tiffany. Tommie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Simonton in 1952; a grandson, William T. Simonton in 1980; her daughter, Annsalee Warner in 1982; and her son, Ernest Jr. in 1986. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico. While residing at Acantilado Vista, Tommie organized a choral group. She loved music and played the piano and was always involved in the church choral groups. One of the highlights of her life was her visit to the Holy Land in 1978. When Tommie was 8 years old, her family moved from Arkansas by covered wagon to Willow Springs, TX. She loved New Mexico and loved her family and almost always accompanied them on their vacations. Tommie retired in 1978 from Cox s department store in Ft. Worth, TX after being employed for over 30 years. Service will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Rio Rancho Church of Christ, 1006 22nd SE, Rio Rancho, NM, with Joe McDaniel, officiating. Mr. George Abe Trujillo, 51, passed away August 8, 2003, at home with his family by his side. Mr. Trujillo graduated from Rio Grande High School, class of 1969. He proudly served his Country during the Vietnam era as a U.S. Marine. Mr. Trujillo loved fishing and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Trujillo was preceded in death by his father, Aurelio (Abe) Trujillo. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Nicole; and sons, Nicolas and Jonathan, all of the family home. Mr. Trujillo is also survived by his mother, Katie Trujillo of Los Lunas; sisters, Debra Ulibarri and husband, Ernie of Albuquerque, Junie Martinez and husband, James of Brighton, Colorado, Carla Trujillo and husband, Genaro Tafoya of Albuquerque, and Renee Trujillo and husband, Robert Reveles of Los Lunas. Mr. Trujillo is also survived by three God-daughters whom he loved dearly, Patricia Duggins of Los Lunas, Victoria Cordova and Sabrina Carabajal of Albuquerque. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws who loved him dearly. Funeral Services for Mr. Trujillo are pending and will be announced at a later time. Buddy "Woody" Woodward, 66, a 40-year resident of Albuquerque, died after a lengthy illness, Thursday, August 7, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Woodward of Albuquerque; children, Kandie Blank, Kimberly Hastings, and Thomas Woodward and their families, all of Albuquerque; mother, Agnes Woodward of Mount Vernon, OH; brother, Jim Beckholt of Alamogordo; and sister, Barbara Blaylock of Columbus, OH. JAMES EDWARD GONZALES, 85, of Santa Fe, passed away on Wednesday after a long illness. He loved people, animals, children and his beloved Chihuahua, 'Chato.' He lived on his terms, had a kind heart, and he is now dancing in heaven, free of illness. He was employed by St. Vincent Hospital and Fairview Cemetery. He was a member of the VFW and was also a veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Anderson; brother, Tony Anderson; and grandson, Richard Maes. He is survived by his loving wife, Minnie Gonzales; daughters, Elizabeth Martinez and husband Dan, and Karla Smail and husband Steve; granddaughters, Lori Martinez and fiancé Jerry Rodriguez, Deanne Martinez, Amanda Martinez and Nicole Maes; grandson, Mark Mendoza; and numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, and a rosary will follow at 3 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. HOWARD M. KASTNER died Tuesday of complications from Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Vienna, Austria, on August 29, 1917, and came to New York as a young man. He served in the Army in Europe during World War II. After the war, he settled in New Jersey to raise his family and start a successful international business. After the children were grown, he sold his business and moved to Munich, Germany, for 12 years to represent his former firm in Europe. While there, his love of volunteering blossomed. He was instrumental in running the Munich Ski Club, Rap Sessions, the Amerika Haus and Columbus Gesellschaft, and many other organizations benefited from his time, talents, and energy. After retiring, he and his wife, Meriom, moved to Santa Fe in 1984. He quickly became involved with the Santa Fe Symphony Guild, Friends of the Palace, Bienvenidos (where he was the only man in the organization), Council on International Relations, Newcomers Club and Santa Fe Corral of the Westerners. He was a docent at the Santa Fe Opera, Folk Art, MIAC and Museum of Fine Arts. He gave his time and support at the Randall Davey Audobon Society, the Archeological Society, the New Mexico Jewish Historical Society, the Jewish War Veterans and many, many other local organizations and causes. Through his linguistic abilities and charm, Howard was responsible for the acquisition of the Segesser Hides at the Palace of the Governors. In 2002, he was named a Living Treasure and was also given the Mort Liebman Award for Public Service by the Ad Club. He was a lifelong learner and an avid supporter of local theater. He loved good food, good music, skiing, people, and above all, his family. In return, he was well loved and appreciated for his warm, gentle nature, kindness and good humor. He is survived by his wife, Meriom; children, Kenneth, Abby, Debby and Barbara; and their families. Donations may be made to The Howard Kastner Memorial Fund for Outstanding Student Award in Theatre at the College of Santa Fe, Greer Garson Theatre, 1600 St. Michael's Drive, Santa Fe, N.M., 87505. MARY CECILIA KING, 78, of Abiquiu for the past 24 years died Wednesday. She was raised in the Española Valley and after her retirement returned to make Abiquiu her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.B. King. She is survived by two daughters, Janet King of Gallup and Linda King Pruitt and husband Bob of Capistrano, Calif.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Mike Nelson and wife Patricia of Pojoaque. CHRIS LOPEZ, a longtime resident of both Las Vegas, N.M., and Corazon, passed away on Saturday at his home. He was born in Corazon on June 14, 1943, to Mary Gonzales. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend. Chris was known to always have a smile on his face. He loved being a cowboy and rancher. He played golf, drums, guitar and sang. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his sons, Ken L. Lopez and wife Debbie of Albuquerque, Dean C. Lopez and friend Mary High Elk of Rapid City, S.D., John P. Lopez of Albuquerque and William Dybdahl of Las Vegas, Nev.; granchildren, Adrianna Lopez of California, Sara Lopez, Brianna Terese Lopez, Johnpaul Benjamin Lopez and Brooke Alisha Lopez, all of Las Vegas, N.M., Bryce Dybdahl and Brianna Dybdahl of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many other relatives and friends. ANGELA VELARDE MARTINEZ, 77, died peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday. She was born on October 22, 1925, in Velarde to Matias Antonio and Amalia Velarde, who preceded her in death. She retired from the U.S. Park Service and spent her remaining years nurturing her family and home, and particularly caring for her two great-grandchildren, who called her Madrecita. She graduated from El Rito Normal School and thereafter worked with the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Zia Company. She moved to Santa Fe and continued her career in federal government work. Her interests were numerous and varied, but she had a special passion for following state and national current events and politics. She served as a member of several union organizations, and she was also a member of the Santa Fe Women's Club. Her spiritual connection with The Sisters of Mount Carmel made every day of her life abundant with joy. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Amelia Rael and Marie P.V. Garcia, and brother David 'Davecito' Velarde. She is survived by her son, Ernest L. Martinez of San Francisco; daughter Consuelo 'Conny' R. Maki of Santa Fe; granddaughter Christina M. Moya and her husband Anthony; grandson Daniel David Maki; and numerous other relatives and friends. Services have been held. LAWRENCE B. MONDRAGON, 50, of Arroyo Seco died Sunday. He is preceded in death by his parents, Beres and Rose Mondragon; and his sister, Loyola Martinez. He is survived by his wife, Bernadette; son, Barry Mondragon; daughter, Lora Mondragon; brothers and sisters, Lillian Mondragon and husband Manuel of Leadville, Colo., Edmundo Mondragon and wife Ida of Azusa, Calif., Susie Garcia and husband Luis, and Casandra Mondragon, all of Llano Quemado; and many other relatives and friends. ISABELLE J. 'BUNTY' VAN VESSEM, 82, a 50-year resident of Los Alamos, passed away Aug. 1. She was a homemaker and loving mother who loved nature, especially enjoying mountains and wildflowers. She was originally from Boston, where she married her first husband, Dr. Robert S. Grier. The Griers later moved to Los Alamos, where Dr. Grier was a physician who served the community for more than 30 years. Dr. Grier preceded her in death. She later married A.D. 'Van' Van Vessem, to whom she was married for the last 10 years. Van preceded her in death on July 9, 2003. Bunty is survived by her son, Robert D. Grier and his wife Debbie; daughter, Jean Douglas Grier of New York City; step-sons Alan Van Vessem, his wife, Carol, and their children, Jennifer and Jessie of Los Alamos and Jon Van Vessem, his wife Diane, and their son Luke, all of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jon's daughter Kellyn of Wisconsin. Services have been held. McGee Memorial Chapel.

ROBERT WALDSCHMIDT, 80, of Los Alamos died Wednesday. He was born in Ellis, Kansas, to Joseph and Anna Waldschmidt, who preceded him in death. He married Loreen Evert in Goodland, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was later employed as a machinist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1988. He is survived by his brothers, Elmer Waldschmidt and wife Lois of Denver, and Leo Waldschmidt and wife Carolyn of Farmington; sister, Annie Musalek of Denver; sons, Michael Waldschmidt and wife Eileen of Corvallis, Ore., Dennis Waldschmidt of Los Alamos, Paul Waldschmidt of Los Alamos, and Robert Waldschmidt and wife Carolyn of Alberta, Canada; daughters, Mary Dugan of Los Alamos, and Elizabeth Pickett and husband Howard of Farmington; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
