Russell "Rusty" Lawrence
(April 1, 1961 - November 22, 2011)

Russell “Rusty” Lawrence, AGE 50, of Springfield, Colorado, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011, in Trinidad, Colorado.

Memorial services were held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 28th at the First United Methodist Church at 200 North Fifth Avenue in Clayton, New Mexico, with Rev. Jay Jones, pastor officiating. Services were under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Russell was one of three children born to Robert and the late Amanda ‘Mandie’ Lawrence. His amicable nature at Alvis and Kiser Elementary schools formed numerous bonds that were both kind and appreciated. He attended Clayton Junior High, and then Clayton High School where he played in the backfield of several powerhouse Yellowjacket football teams. He played trombone in the Yellowjacket band alongside big brother Dick, good buddy Richard Arguello, and a host of other friends. These lifelong friendships would follow him after he graduated in 1979. Russell was a U.S. Army veteran whose duty as a military police officer ensured security for General Bernard Rogers at the Chateau Jon Bién in Mons, Belgium. This was known to most veterans as the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) of NATO. Upon returning from Europe, Russell married Karena Stewart in 1983, and settled for a brief time in Virginia. There Russell continued to provide security for the national defense contractor TRW. In 1988 he relocated to his hometown of Clayton, New Mexico. Russell and Karena proudly and devotedly raised three incredible and beloved children, Katherine, Kristopher, and Kelsey. These caring parents encircled their children with love in a union that lasted for 27 years. Russell’s world was shaken at the passing of his mother in the winter of 2010. Soon after, he was blessed to experience the empathy and understanding of a close high school friend, Jerri-Ann Kirk. Their relationship blossomed and in August of 2011 they became engaged to be married. The couple had plans to reside in Springfield, Colorado after their marriage. Russell was fortunate to work alongside many old and new friends in Clayton and other communities. He labored as a mail and ATM transport carrier, EMS attendant, firefighter, highway department inspector, mechanic, handyman, and cemetery caretaker. He was employed by BNSF railroad located in Trinidad, Colorado, and was undergoing training at the time of his passing. His endeared mother, Amanda (Jones Lawrence) Parker had preceded him in death on December 7, 2010. Russell had a heart the size of the broad, blue New Mexico sky and the God-given gift of a sensitive and forgiving demeanour that touched and blessed many throughout his life. His sense of humor is legendary and was the source of pure joy and hilarity among all who knew him. Russell will be in the hearts and prayers of hundreds of family, friends, and strangers whose lives he touched in the too-short 50 years in which we knew him. We take comfort that he is in the bosom of our Lord and has found the peace of God that he sought during his life.

David Kimsey
(April 10, 2001 - May 28, 2012)

David Kimsey, age 11, died Monday, May 28, 2012 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Eric Armstrong, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Des Moines, officiating. Burial followed in the Grenville Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

David Allen Kimsey was born on April 10, 2001 in Raton, New Mexico to Bryan Allen Kimsey and Georgia (Zentner) Kimsey. His life was full of physical challenges starting with a double hernia as an infant. Shortly thereafter, he was identified with severe anemia which remained undiagnosed in spite of the best efforts of the University of New Mexico’s Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado. He started on a steroid program in December 2011 and seemed to be responding well to such treatment. Early in the morning of May 28, however, he complained of a severe headache and fell unconscious. A LifeGuard flight to Albuquerque was of no avail and he left us in the early evening. In spite of his frail physical condition, David was full of life. He traveled by Amtrak with his father to Washington DC where they spent several days touring the Smithsonian museum. He was proficient and safe with both guns and bows, was a good mechanic, and could drive a T-head screw. He went camping, to bluegrass festivals and to an archery shoot. He loved listening to music, especially to fiddler Natalie MacMaster whom David saw in concert a few days before he was born and then 8 days before his passing. Two years ago, David got involved with 4H and loved it, especially when he graduated to building rockets which he did all by himself. When David set out to do something, he was determined to do his best. He was a very proficient reader, was amazingly adept with his beloved iPad and was well-known for engaging conversation. His last evening with his earthly family was spent playing games with his siblings and then playing music on his new drum set with his mother and father, a moment they will cherish forever.
David will be sorely missed by all who knew him. David seemed to touch the heart of every person he met. We can only thank God and consider ourselves blessed to have been a part of his life. We trust that David is safe in the hands of his Heavenly Father, perfectly healed of his infirmities.
