Anthony “Tony” Chavez
1944-2010
Anthony “Tony” Chavez, age 66, a resident of Belen, NM went home to with the Lord on Monday, December 6, 2010.
Tony enjoyed different kinds of wood working and making a variety of crafts.
He also enjoyed listening to music and dancing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Delfinia Lucero Chavez.
Tony is survived by his loving sister, Mary Jane Chavez and loving aunt, Amalia Lucero.
He is also survived by several cousins.
A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, with a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will be held at a later date.

Theresa Singleton
1957-2010
Theresa Singleton, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2010.
Theresa is survived by one loving daughter and three loving grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 3, at 1:30 p.m. with a Funeral Service to be held at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will be held at a later date.

Opal Irene Hobbs
1924-2010
Opal Irene Talbot Hobbs, age 86, a resident of Belen, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 25. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Dowe “Chappy” W. Hobbs; children, Sandra Lynette, Howe Woody, Zaide and Wendell; and grandson, Robbie Hobbs. Opal is survived by her four sons, Gary, Boyd, Waylan and Rocky; one daughter, Stella King; 51 plus grandchildren; 53 plus great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.She is also survived by many other family members and friends too numerous to mention. A visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church, in Los Chavez, at 9:00 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 30, with a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Boyd Morerod officiating. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Buster Wade, Micheal Hobbs, Ezra Garringer, Robert Maturino, Chris Maturino and Kendra Hobbs.

Pauline Baca
1927-2010
Pauline Baca, age 83, a resident of Belen, NM, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010 with her daughter by her side. Pauline took great pleasure in being with her family. She loved to cook, entertain, sew and go to the casino. Pauline loved to visit with family and friends when she could. She had a great sense of humor and always made everyone laugh and feel good. In her younger days when she drove, she would always cook a lot of food and visit people who could not go out. Pauline was very kind. She was loyal to her family, friends and community. Pauline worked at Belen General Hospital and Los Lunas Hospital and Training School for many years. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Liberato and Juliana Montano; husband, Marcelino Baca; four children, Libby, Andrew, Rita and Elia; sister, Emilia Baca and brother, Arsenio Silva. Pauline is survived by three daughters, Edna Mae Baca of Los Lunas, Eileen Brant of Sahuarita, AZ and Doris Gutierrez and husband, John of Belen; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Sunday, November 28, at 4:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Monday, November 29, at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Wayne B. Smith
1919-2011
Wayne B. Smith, age 93, a former resident of Belen, NM for 40 years, passed away in Farmington, NM on Saturday, July 16, after a short illness. Wayne retired from the Santa Fe Railway after 37 years of outstanding service. He was a 50 year member of the Belen Masonic Lodge and a long-time Ballut Abyad Shriner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and his brother, Jimmy Smith. Wayne is survived by his widow, Velma Smith; three daughters, Marilyn Chavez, Shirley Beasley and her husband, Robert and Linda Rippee; one son, Gary Smith; sister, Roberta Duff of Hobart, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 20, at 1:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to be held at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Boyd Morerod of the Los Chavez Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael Thomas, Stefan Mills, Derick Garcia, Chek Rippee and Tyrel Gast.

Josie Maria Estella Sanchez Romero
1927-2011
On February 5, 1927 Josie Maria Estella Sanchez Romero entered this world, a beautiful daughter, born unto Juan P. Sanchez and Lucinda Chavez Sanchez. Mrs. Romero was called to join them in eternal rest today, July 16, 2011 as her entire family prayed by her side. Josie also joins her husband of 55 years, Jose’ Baltazar Romero; her son, Floyd Wilfred Romero; brothers, sisters, and their spouse, Carlota Romero and husband, Trinidad, Delfido Sanchez and wife, Agnes, Priscilla Romero and husband, Boleslo, Lucy Jaramillo and husband, Menard, Melvin Sanchez, Arsenio Sanchez, Lorraine Chavez and husband, Sylverio, Jenny Chavira, Evangeline Aragon and husband, Antonio and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends. Josie is survived by her daughters, Sara Romero Casias and Ida Romero Perea; grandchildren, Yvonne Casias-Young, Myron Perea, William Casias and wife, Renee, Mary Jo Lucero and husband, Mark, Joseph Romero and Aaron Romero; great-grandchildren, DeVon Young, Angelique Casias, Vanessa, Travis and Savannah Casias, Morgan, Noah and Lukus Lucero and Ignacio and Elijah Romero. She is also survived by brothers, Sylvestre Sanchez and Edward Torres and wife, Rebecca; sisters, Griselda Marquez and husband, Alfonso, Erlinda Hernandez and husband, Carlos; in-laws, Josie Sanchez and Cito Chavira and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces and cousins. Mrs. Romero was a kind and gentle spirit that was not afraid of any task, including working the farm with her husband. She was a devoted mother that took an active role in raising her grandchildren, and she loved and cherished her great-grandchildren. She worked for the Los Lunas School District, cooking wonderful meals for the staff and students, while her son, Floyd, was in school, and later in life, was a care provider for special needs individuals at Los Lunas Hospital and Training school. She touched the lives of many and was an inspiration with her ambition and ability to make anything look easy. It was often joked among her family that she would have been a great attorney, because of the wonderful advice she always had readily-available! She will be greatly missed by those of us that were fortunate enough to be in her midst. Her final care on earth is entrusted to Romero Funeral Home and services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome, beginning with a viewing on Wednesday, July 20, at 10:00 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jose Hernandez presiding. Interment will follow at the Tome Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Yvonne Casias-Young, Myron Perea, William Casias, Mark Lucero, Joseph Romero and Aaron Romero. Honorary Pallbearers will be DeVon Young, Vanessa Casias, Travis Casias, Angelique Casias, Savannah Casias, Morgan Lucero, Noah Lucero, Ignacio Romero, Lukus Lucero and Elijah Romero.

Jose Luz Lovato
1922-2011
Jose Luz Lovato, age 89, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011. Joe proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He became a Journeyman Pipefitter after marrying his wife of 57 years, Margaret. His work carried him to the Los Alamos Atomic Plant in the early 1950’s and he worked on many hydroelectric systems in Albuquerque. Joe moved to Los Angeles, where he performed the plumbing on 1000’s of homes and skyscrapers. He also worked on the nuclear plant in San Onofre, CA. Joe served as President of the Pipefitter’s Local Union and was Chairman of the Pipefitters Apprenticeship Committee. He personally taught hundreds of new pipefitter candidates. He also served as President of the Mexican American Political Association, San Fernando Chapter. He was very supportive of Cesar Chavez and the rights of farm workers in Central California. Joe took Classes at the University of Southern California on labor law and arbitration. He was an avid reader on many topics and amazingly successful in solving the Jumble Word Puzzles. When you enter Joe’s home, you will find books on quotes of famous people, algebra, history, government, power of words and speech and labor law. He spoke very kindly of his grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. We thank him for teaching us honesty, integrity, pride and family. Lastly, his passing was peaceful and God took him without him experiencing a lot of stress. We can say he fought the good fight and finished the race. His legacy will remain with us forever. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret Lovato; parents, Estanislado and Dominica (Gonzales) Lovato; infant son, Dominic Lovato; brothers, Nestor Lovato and Fidel Lovato and sisters, Mary Chavez and Nellie Saavedra. Joe is survived by his sons, George Lovato and wife, Jerry of Cloverdale, CA, Joe Lovato Jr. and wife, Betty of Medford, OR, and Ben Lovato and wife, Diana of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Ricardo Lovato of Belen, NM; grandchildren, Lisa Dabovich and husband, Joe of Los Angeles, Amahl Lovato of Albuquerque, NM, Irene Yonkers and husband, Ken of Balboa Island, CA, Christina Beauchemin and husband, Jon of Moorpark, CA, Joanna Flores and husband, Will of Portland, OR, Ben Lovato Jr. and wife, Natalia of Sacramento, CA and Joe Lovato Jr. and wife, Leslie of Portland, OR; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tyler, Gabriela, Ryan, Bennett, Everly, Luc, Benny and Caden. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews including, Catalina “Kate” Debord of Belen, NM, Gloria Lovato West of Albuquerque, NM, and Clydine Sosa of Albuquerque, NM. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Friday, July 22, at 5:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Saturday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

J. Floyd Kaler
1926-2011
J. Floyd Kaler, passed away July 7th, 2011 at the age of 85. He was born May 18th, 1926 in Westplains, Missouri. He was the youngest of nine and is survived by two sisters, Helen Arvig and Bernice Muller, both of MN. He was married to the “Light of His Life” Janet Hill Kaler for 62 years. She survives him along with his children, Scott Dean Kaler, (Jane), children, Joshua and Luke, Heather Ruth Kaler Koontz, (John), children, Kyle and Jeanette. As a highly decorated WWII veteran he began his service with the 167th Evacuation Hospital on the Island of Leyta in the Philippines, continuing his service with the invasion of mainland Japan through Tokyo. Returning home to his parents in MN, he had a great privilege to buy his mother her first refrigerator. He attended school and became a printer and bookbinder. Floyd and Janet relocated to Denver in 1956 and raised their family and had numerous business endeavors. In 1980 Floyd surprised Janet by buying the White Elephant Storage in Belen. They relocated once again and built a home in Rio Communities. They have been residents of Belen since that time. His strong spirit lives on in our hearts, he will be missed and never forgotten. Private family funeral services will be at the National Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.

William Gonzales
1935-2011
William Gonzales, age 76, born and raised in Pecos, NM, and a resident of Belen, NM, for over 40 years peacefully passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 28, surrounded by his family. He is a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. William owned and managed his roofing company for over 50 years. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Gonzales; his parents, Filimon Sr. and Agueda Lujan Gonzales; son, Willie Gonzales Jr. and brothers, Bobby Gonzales and Filimon Gonzales Jr. William is survived by his loving children, Salomon and wife, Michelle, Michael and wife, Theresa, Phillip and wife, Yolanda, Douglas, Andrew, Michael Dale, Mamie, Tari and husband, Frank, Judy and husband, Vicente; brothers, Manuel Gonzales and wife, Martha and Eloy Gonzales and wife, Dolores; sisters, Pina Quintana and Connie Garcia; Tata to his 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a viewing at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. The family would like to give a special thank you to Trinidad Quintana his loving companion for the special love and care you gave to our dad. We couldn’t have gone through this with out you. A special thank you to uncle Eloy for being with us through this journey. We would like to thank Jude Quintana, Sheryl VanGilst and all the hospice staff of Ambercare for their support, care and compassion.

Jose Guadalupe Renteria
1932-2011
Jose Guadalupe Renteria, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico was in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 25, 2011 surrounded in love, by his family. He was born on March 19, 1932 in San Miguel del Alto, Xalisco. He was a member of El Cerro Mission Baptist Church, where his son Esteban Renteria is the Pastor. Jose was a hardworking man. He was a loving and generous man who freely gave of his heart and time to anyone in need. He had a compassionate heart and devotion to God, his family and friends. He loved for people to come and have a cup of coffee with him, he loved to visit. He was a very friendly man who talked to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Jose is survived by his wife of 58 years, Paula Renteria; his daughters, Maria Renteria, Cecilia Medina and her husband, Rojelio, his son, Esteban Renteria and his wife, Theresa, his daughter, Rosa Garcia and her husband, Miguel, his daughter, Christina Gutierrez and her husband, Sonny, his daughter, Elbira Flores and her husband, Ross, his sons, Enrique Renteria and Manuel Renteria; along with 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; his brother, Felipe Renteria and his sister, Agapita Ponce. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to El Cerro Mission Baptist Church in honor of Jose Renteria. All services will be held at El Cerro Mission Baptist Church, beginning with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, with a Funeral Service to be held at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Sedillo Cemetery.

Sally R. Sais
1954-2011
Sally R. Sais, age 56, a resident of Belen, passed away on Sunday, June 26.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a viewing at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Jose G. Renteria
1932-2011
Jose G. Renteria, age 79, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Saturday, June 25.
All services will be held at El Cerro Mission Baptist Church, beginning with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, with a Funeral Mass to be held at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Sedillo Cemetery.
