Eduardo Eddy DeAnda
1932-2011
Eduardo “Eddy” DeAnda, age 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away Friday, June 24. He was born on March 11, 1932 in Los Lunas, NM. Eddy was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and served as an usher and money counter for many years. He always had a smiling face, open arms, and a friendly handshake. He had a beautiful voice and enjoyed acting and singing in the Pastorelas annually for several years. A lover of sports, he played center for the Los Lunas tigers in high school and loved the Dallas Cowboys. He voluntarily prepared income taxes for AARP and any family or friends in need. He worked for First National Bank of Belen for 30 years working up from a teller to district manager to loan officer and was one of the first people to learn and supervise the ATM systems. He was a dedicated family man always putting family first. He didn’t have a selfish bone in his body literally giving the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Super friendly and social, he spoke to everyone, no one was a stranger. Eddy and Jenny were always the best dancers in the room and enjoyed travel and went on many cruises, road trips, and especially loved visiting Jennifer and Ken in New Jersey. They traveled to New Jersey every year for 25 years and enjoyed New England, Cape Cod, New York, Philadelphia, and he especially loved Baltimore and the crab cakes. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Leonard; parents, Jose Dolores and Concepcion Montes DeAnda; brother, Lorenzo; sisters, Julia DeAnda, and Mattie Williams; father and mother-in-law, Presciliano “Buddy” and Elena Gabaldon Sanchez; sister-in-laws, Erlinda “Early” Garcia and Mary Tabet Sanchez; and brother-in-laws, Tranquilino “Kilo” Sanchez and Eduardo “Lalo” Lopez. Eddy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Juanita “Jenny” Sanchez DeAnda; devoted daughter, Jennifer Leight and husband, Ken; daughter-in-law, Cynthia DeAnda; and cherished grandson, Steven. He is also survived by a brother, sisters, nieces and nephews. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a Visitation at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29 with a Rosary to be recited at 11:30 a.m. and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Honorary Urnbearers will be Kenneth Leight and Steven Lee DeAnda.

Rosendo “Ross” Vallejos
1951-2011
Rosendo “Ross” Vallejos, age 60, our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend was called home on Wednesday evening, June 22, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Ross was born on January 10, 1951 in Adelino to Maximiliano and Emilia Vallejos. Ross was a 1971 graduate of Belen High School and worked diligently for twenty three years at the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy, where he was admired and respected by many of his fellow co-workers. He was also a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome. Ross could brighten your day with his sense of humor by telling a funny joke, by impersonating someone, by passionately strumming his guitar while singing a song, or showing you his latest sketch, which could make you laugh so hard until you cried. He was preceded in death by his father, Max. Ross is survived by his mother Emilia Duran Vallejos; his siblings, Leonardita Lopez, Jose Vallejos, Eleanor Barela, Isabel Torres, and Edward Vallejos; ten nieces and nephews; along with eleven great nieces and nephews; and his brother and sister-in-laws, all of which loved and adored him. All services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome, beginning with a viewing at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 27, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at the Tome Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Torres, Paul Torres, Ray Lopez, Tommy Abeyta, Lawrence Jaramillo and Daniel Ulibarri. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Lopez, Arthur Lopez, John Lopez, Richard Martinez and Max Carrillo. The family would like to express a heartfelt appreciation to all of the individuals from Ambercare who cared for Ross during his time of need.

Kate F. Billia, age 71, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Josephine Bernarda Vallejos
1943-2011
Josephine Bernarda Vallejos, age 68, a resident of Peralta, NM passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Santiago and Mary Perea Torres. Josephine is survived by her loving husband, Victor Vallejos Jr.; three children, Ernest Vallejos and wife, Regina, Peggy Vallejos and Debbie Vallejos; five grandchildren, Andrea Vallejos, Ernie Vallejos Jr. and wife, Lyndsey, Matthew Vallejos, Alysia Vallejos and Laryssa Gonzales and two great-grandchildren, Ezekiel Ortiz and Diego Vallejos. A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 14, at 6:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date.

Malik Vicente Garcia Our Little Iron Man

Malik Vicente Garcia “Our Little Iron Man” passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 17, 2011. He was born in Phoenix Arizona to his loving parents, Thomas and Natasha Garcia on July 26, 2011. Malik was a fighter and the light of our lives. We were so blessed to have you, our precious little angel, even if it was for a short time. We’re so grateful for your beautiful smile, your loving eyes, and your soft touch. When we look at the stars, a beautiful sunset, a rainbow, or hear the sound of a childs laughter we will remember you. You are all that is good and beautiful and you will forever live in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jo Ann Garcia; great-grandma, Tina Garcia; great-grandpa, Henry Trujillo; and aunt, Katherine Garcia. Malik is survived by his loving parents, Thomas and Natasha Garcia; grandfather, Terry Garcia formally of Belen; grandparents, Theresa and Tim Grether; uncle and godfather, Chris Garcia; aunts and uncles, Charity and Dennis, Christina and Sean, Derrick and Jody; and great-grandparents, Daniel Garcia and Viola Wyler. Services will be held at Our of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a visitation at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 14 with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:00 p.m.

Ephraim Barela
1934-2011
Ephraim Barela, age 77, a resident of Belen, New Mexico passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, after a brief illness.
Ephraim was born to Luis Baca Barela and Erenea Soto Barela of Tome, New Mexico.
He worked for many years for the State Highway Department and the City of Belen.

Rosalie Barela
1936-2011
Rosalie Barela, age 75, a resident of Belen, NM passed away on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011. Rosalie was born on July 17, 1936 to Ramon Chavez and Rebecca Aragon of Adelino, New Mexico. She retired from the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School where she cared for special needs children. Rosalie was a very generous and loving person who was very dedicated to her children and extended family. She also had many friends whom she cherished dearly. Rosalie loved to cook for her all of her family and friends and many wonderful memories were made around her kitchen table sharing her delicious food. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ephraim Barela; parents, and her siblings, Rose Gomez, Erlinda Zamora, Esqipula Chavez and Bonifacio Aragon. Rosalie is survived by three daughters, Kathy Chavez and her partner, Paulina Inigo, Patricia Barela and her partner, Francisco LeFebre and Christine Whale and her husband, Keith; two sons, Elias Barela and his wife, Janice, and Ephraim Barela; siblings, Ramon Chavez, Isabel Martin, Salome Chavez, Josie Aragon, Lucy Reeves and Louis Chavez; grandchildren, Justin Orr, Evan Barela, Forrest Orr, Naoimi Garcia, Rochelle Barela, Julia Barela, Urijah Barela and one great-grandchild, Carter Orr. Rosalie is also survived by her foster child, George Herrera, and many loving nieces, nephews, special friends, close relatives and loved ones. All services will be held on Monday, October 17. A Visitation and Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Also on Monday a lunch in celebration of her life will be held at Belen Community Center at Eagle Park immediately following Interment.

Navor Lovato
1941-2011
Navor Lovato, age 70, a resident of Los Lunas, NM passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011.
All services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome, NM on Friday, October 14, beginning with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jose Hernandez presiding.
Interment will follow at the Valencia Catholic Cemetery in Los Lunas.

Manuel Benavidez
1953-2011
Manuel Benavidez, age 58, a resident of Belen, NM passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011.
All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Monday, October 10, beginning with a visitation at 11:00 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 11:30 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Eusebio Valenzuela Cardoza
1925-2011
Eusebio Valenzuela Cardoza, age 85, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011. He was born in Hurley, New Mexico, and was raised in Las Cruces. He was an ardent and faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Peralta, New Mexico. Eusebio enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific Ocean Theater during World War II. He married Aurora Padilla and together they raised four children in Albuquerque. Eusebio was proud to retire from the IRS after thirty years and relocated to Bosque Farms in 1988. Eusebio was a simple man but nonetheless full of love and happiness that his family will always carry with them. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. He follows his wife, Aurora, and eldest son, Joseph, in death. Eusebio leaves behind one brother, Julian Cardoza, his daughters Annette Tynan and Olivia Cardoza, and his youngest son Greg Cardoza; ten grandchildren, Jessica and James, Maria, Scott and Ryan, Alicia, Jill and Eric, Elyce and Adass; and six great-grandchildren. A Communion Service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8.

Perry L. Boggus
1931-2011
Perry L. Boggus, age 80, a resident of Jarales, NM passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his son, Perry Allen Boggus. Perry is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Peggy F. Boggus; daughter, Debbie Vidotto of Austin, TX; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
