Robert S. Mascareñas - Age 77
A resident of Chamita passed away on Monday, February 5, 2007 after a short illness. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Larry Mascareñas; parents, Pantaleon and Romana Mascareñas; 1 brother, Guadalupe Mascareñas; 1 sister, Mary Mascareñas Gonzales; very close nephew, Edward T. Quintana. Mr. Mascareñas was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked for 20 years for the Los Alamos National Laboratory and went on to work for the New Mexico State Highway Department and retired after 25 years of service. In his last years he drove an activity bus for the Espanola Public Schools. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elvira Mascareñas; children, Roberto J., Wally, and Janice Mascareñas all of Chamita; niece he considered a daughter, Sennie Quintana of Cuarteles; 1 brother, Horace Mascareñas and wife Ruby of Fairview; 2 sisters, Adela Trujillo and husband Jerry of Chimayo, and Diedrie Valdez and husband John of Tierra Azul; 2 sisters-in-law, Rosemary Lopez and husband Charles of Chandler, Arizona, and Brigette Salazar of Albuquerque; 1 brother-in-law, David Martinez of Velarde; grandchildren, Sandra, Alejandro, Andrea, Antonia, Jacobo and Marisa Mascareñas, Angelo, Gabriel, Tamara and Alicia Abeyta; 6 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends; the following serving as pallbearers, Charles Lopez, Angelo Abeyta, Alejandro Mascareñas, Kevin Salazar, Jerry Gonzales and Edward Quintana. Honorary pallbearers are Kelly Archuleta, Jacobo Mascareñas, Leandro and Andrew Dominguez and David Martinez. The family of Robert S. Gilbert L. Maes - Age 52
A resident of Cebolla passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2007 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Cedelia Maes; 1 brother, Sonny Maes. Gilbert was a lifelong resident and rancher in the Cebolla area. He was a Marine Corp Veteran. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Gilbert was also a very spiritual person. He is survived by his sons, Jose Maes of Las Cruces, Jesus Maes of Cebolla, and Erwin Martinez of Tierra Amarilla; daughter, Angelica Martinez of Chama; 1 granddaughter, Brooklynn Maes of Las Cruces; 1 brother, Joseph Maes of Albuquerque; 6 sisters, Nelda Archuleta of La Mesilla, Nancy Atencio and husband Alfonso of Cuba, Sarah Benavidez of Albuquerque, Margarita Ryzdynski of Las Vegas, NV., Lydia Garcia and husband Dan of Salt Lake City, UT., and Loretta Maes of Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Petra Maes of Santa Fe; he was also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The following will serve as pallbearers, Victor Archuleta, Gabe Valdez, Leroy Garcia, Eddie James Maes, Alfred “Bully” Trujillo and Mario Martinez. Cecilia Lucia Trujillo - Age 61
Of Fairview passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 3, 2007. Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, Lucas and Josephine Trujillo; brother, Richard Trujillo; her caregiver of over 25 years, Theresa Trujillo Duran, and her special grandfather, Lucas Trujillo. She is survived by her brother, Herbert Lucas Trujillo of Fairview; her sisters, Pearl Joy and husband LeRoy Bustos of Rio Rancho, and her guardian and baby sister, Lila Jean (Jeanie) Trujillo of Fairview; sister-in-law, Emily and husband Julian Vigil of Gallina; nephews, Brian Bustos of Rio Rancho, Steven Bustos of Paramount, California, Craig and wife Sharon Trujillo of Fairview, Richard and wife Ocaris Trujillo of Gallina; aunt, Nelwyn Trujillo of Santa Cruz, and many other relatives. She is also survived by her caregiver and special friend, Mary Archuleta of Coyote. HENRY T. CORDOVA
Age 77, a resident of Española, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reymundo and Juanita Cordova and brother, Ruben Solis. Henry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa Cordova of Española; daughters, Henrietta F. Sanchez and husband Jose R. of Española and Nora C. Martinez and husband Robert B. of Virginia; grandchildren, Robert A. Sanchez and wife Jessica of Oklahoma, Martina Martinez and Tomasita Brinson and husband Neal all of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Hannah Skye Sanchez and Nicolas Anthony Sanchez both of Oklahoma, Henry and Elijah Brinson of Oklahoma; brother, Pedro Cordova and his family of Albuquerque; favorite cousin, Frances Archuleta and husband Bernie of Española and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. SHARON B. LUJAN
Age 45, On Tuesday, February 6, 2007, our beloved daughter, mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, was welcomed into God’s waiting arms. With her family and friends by her side throughout her illness, Sharon peacefully died after complications from colon cancer.
Sharon was born on May 24, 1961. She graduated from Pojoaque High School in 1979. In December of 1981, she married the love of her life, Joe. She enjoyed 26 years of marriage with her loyal partner, who was always by her side. She gave birth to two of her greatest joys, her sons, Estevan and Andrew.
Sharon worked for the Pojoaque Valley Schools for 17 years as an adored teacher’s assistant. Everyone who knew her loved that never-ending smile on her face. There is nothing Sharon was more proud of than her family and the love she had for them all was endless. Sharon loved to fish and camp with her family at Nambe Lake and liked to spend Mother’s Day or any holiday doing just that. She was always “cruising” with Joe all over northern New Mexico. Sharon's hobbies were working in her garden in the summer or cheering on her favorite football team, the Raiders.
She is survived by her loving husband Joe; sons, Estevan and Andrew Lujan, parents, Arabella and Juan Jiron; grandmother, Rebecca Archuleta; great-aunt, Aurora Montano; brother, James and wife Antoinette Jiron; sister, Carmelina and husband Jimmy Anderson; sister, Paula and husband Sean Ewy; nephews, Jason Sweeney, Jonathan Jiron, Dominik and Coby Anderson; nephew/godson, Devon Ewy; nieces, Megan Ewy, Catherine Jiron and Carmelina Sweeney, just like daughters, Germaine Branch and Lenore Velasquez; sisters-in-law, Miranda Ortiz and family, Helen Sandoval and husband Gene, Ivy Higman and husband Mark, Edna Maes and husband Ed; brothers-in-law, Freddie Lujan, Armando Lujan and wife Florinda, Charlie Lujan and wife Marlene, and Ronnie Lujan and wife Gerri. Serving as pallbearers, Jonathan Jiron, Jason Sweeney, Jimmy Anderson, Robert Lujan, David Herrera and Robert Garcia. ESEQUIEL S. DOMINGUEZ
Age 20, a resident of Vadito, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 7, 2007. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Esequiel was currently an Honor student at Northern New Mexico Community College, having made the Deans List, and National Deans list. Esequiel is survived by his parents, Paul and Filiberta Dominguez of Vadito; four sisters, Angelica Dominguez and (Lawrence Vigil), Adelaida, Monica and Allegra Dominguez; half brother, Paul Dominguez; God-father, Eugenio Arellano of Chamisal; nephews, Jason Dominguez and Kevin Vigil; close cousin, Augustin Vela of Vadito; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family and friends. The family of Esequiel S. Dominguez has entrusted his funeral arrangements to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley.

Conce G. Fresquez Sr. - Age 88
A resident of Cuarteles passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2007. He was preceded in death by his son, David; brother, Filiberto; 2 half brothers, Abedon Sr., and Andres Lopez; parents, Jose de la Cruz and Lugardita Fresquez. He was in the 4th Combat Engineer Battalion during WWII, received 2 bronze stars and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He retired from Santa Fe County in 1983 where he was a Santa Fe county roads supervisor. Conce enjoyed camping, hunting, spending time with his family and tending to his chili roasting business. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Porfie M. of Cuarteles; sons, Jake E. and wife Gloria of Cuarteles, Bobby M. and wife Lucy of Albuquerque, Conce J. and wife Shirley of Cuarteles, and Benny R. and wife Arlene all of Chimayo; daughters, Therisa Ortiz and husband Wray of La Mesilla, Cyndee, and Julie Fresquez all of Cuarteles; Leoma Esquibel and Deborah Borrego who were like daughters to him; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The family of Conce G. Fresquez has entrusted his cremation arrangements to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.

JOSE PRUDENCIO “PRUDY” MONTAñO SR.
Age 65, a resident of Canjilon, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isidoro and Magdalena Montaño; aunt, Sylviana “Bana” Martinez; brothers, Emilio and Isidorito Lolo Montaño and grandson, Patrick I. Montaño. Jose was a plumber and pipe fitter who loved his family and being outdoors. He loved to hunt, trap, look for antler sheds, going for wood and gambling at the casino. He was a great father, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Jose is survived by the mother of his children, Celina Sally Montaño of Canjilon; children, Theresa Montaño and companion Manuel Brooks Maestas of Canjilon, Lola Lopez of Laguna, Veronica Lopez and companion George Lopez of Canjilon, Jose P. Montaño Jr. and wife Linda of Ruidoso, Brian Montaño and wife Noella and Martha Montaño and companion Jacob Montoya all of Canjilon; grandchildren, Gerald Montaño, April Maestas, Clarissa and Georgia Montaño, Angel, Joshua and Yvette Lopez, Brian Montaño Jr., Estevan Maestas and Chelsey Montaño; great-grandchildren, Miavan Chavez, William Keith Lunt IV, Alianna Montoya, Jaydon Esquerra; brother, G.F. Montaño and wife Lorna of Utah; sister, Rosalie Bustos and husband Dan of Española and numerous nephews, nieces and other family and friends. Serving as pallbearers, Bobby Bustos, Joshua Lopez, Carlos May, Mark Martinez, Jacob Montoya and Mike Soberanez. Honorary pallbearers named are all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. SERENA ANN SANDOVAL
Age 35, a resident of Beaumont, Texas and originally of Santa Cruz, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 9, 2007. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Cleo Lujan; uncle, Julian “Noochie” Lujan and aunt, Amelia Lujan. She was a beloved daughter, loving sister and a devoted mother and will be greatly missed. Serena is survived by her son, Michael Sandoval IV of Santa Cruz; parents, Pete and Aggie Olsen of Santa Cruz; sisters, Jena L. Olsen of Fairview and Juliana Olsen; brother, Rocky Olsen both of Santa Cruz; uncles, nino Gene Lujan of Round Rock, Texas and Sam Lujan and wife Betty of Salt Lake City, Utah; maternal grandfather, Edmund Lujan of Santa Cruz; her niece and princess, Nattlee N. DANIEL MANZANARES
Age 46, a resident of Chama, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 7, 2007. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernesto Manzanares; brother, Christopher Manzanares; sisters, Ciria Quezada; grandfather, Celestino Manzanares and grandmother, Antonio Manzanares. He is survived by his mother, Margaret N. Manzanares of Chama; aunts, Isabel Manzanares, Jane Romero and husband Levi and Rosa Franco all of Utah, Maria Domingues and husband Jesus of Espanola; uncle, Willie Manzanares of Ensenada; Nephews, Javier Manzanares, Antonio Quezada, Freddy Manzanares; nieces, Bianca and Delila Manzanares and numerous cousins and other family and friends. EDWARD “EDDIE” ROMERO
Age 56, a resident of Cordova and Chupadero, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 10, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fedelino Romero and Josefita “Josie” Lopez; father-in-law, Clovis Martinez; uncle, Adonais Montoya; grandparents, Liborio and Juanita Montoya. Edward was an avid horse trainer who loved horses and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and hauling wood. The pride of his life was his horse, Pistol Pigeon. He also loved gardening and listening to music. Edward is survived by his daughters, Juanita Gonzales and husband Ben of Peralta and Rose “Mugsy” Romero and husband Richard Samaniego of Cuba; lifelong companion, Mary Ortiz of Chupadero; brothers and sisters, Joe Romero and wife Beni of Cordova, Tony Romero of Cordova, Steve Gomez and wife Kathy of La Puebla, Anna Mahan and husband Richard of Aztec and Connie Romero and husband George of Los Luceros; mother of his daughters, Dora Romero of Cuba; special nephews, Little Joe Romero Jr. of Cordova and Felipe Gomez of La Puebla; grandchildren, Isaiah, Christopher and Gabriel Gonzales, Santita, Jacob, Ricco and Emillio Samaniego; 14 nieces and nephews and numerous other family and friends. Julian Trujillo
Age 57 a resident of Medanales passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Alcairo Trujillo; brothers, Julian, Ernesto, Alcairo Jr. and Salvador Trujillo; a niece, Evelyn Trujillo. Julian liked the outdoors, especially going hunting. He loved going to the casino and playing cards. Julian was also a master mechanic. Most of all, he loved to watch his family play baseball. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Trujillo; son, Julian Trujillo Jr. both of Medanales; daughter, Mary Ann and husband Eugene Trujillo of Rio Chama; sisters, Loveada and husband Augustine Sisneros of California, Rufina Duran and companion Jay Vigil of Rio Chama; brothers, Silviano and wife Libby, Augustine and wife Lita all of Medanales, Toby and wife Luanna of El Duende, and Rufino Trujillo of Pueblo, Colorado; caretaker, Candy Trujillo of Chili; numerous other nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. The following will serve as pallbearers, Paul Sisneros, Mark Talamante, Max Martinez, Ivan Trujillo, Eugene Trujillo Sr., and Mike Salazar. Jesus Nicolas Martinez
Age 20, a resident of Chimayo passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 15, 2007. He was preceded in death by his father, Chris Martinez; brother, Christopher Martinez; special uncle, Jimmy Martinez; and maternal grandfather, Juan Duran. Jesus’ passion was working on cars and his tattoo art work. He also loved spending time with his daughter and companion Jenna. He is going to be greatly and dearly missed by his beloved family. Jesus is survived by his daughter, Daijah Martinez; companion, Jenna Ortiz; mother, Beverly and husband Felix Martinez; sister, Kimberly Martinez, and special niece, Kaylee Martinez; paternal grandparents, Floyd and Celina Martinez; maternal grandmother, Mabel Duran; Godmother; Clara Martinez; further families include, Robert and Monica Soveranez, Jackie Martinez and girls, Josh and Erminda Duran, and many other uncles, aunts, cousins and relatives. Juan Ramon Gutierrez
Age 51, a resident of Chamita passed away after a short illness on Friday, February 16, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, Feliberto and Petrinila Gutierrez; sister, Carmen Gutierrez and brother, Jose Dolores Gutierrez. Juan loved fishing and he also loved building rock walls which was hard work. He also loved music and dancing. He is survived by his wife Viola Gutierrez of Espanola and his children, Anna Marie and David Gutierrez of the family home, Brothers, Augustine, Samuel, Isaias, Manuel, Salvador, and Jose Angel Gutierrez, sister, Luz Elena Gutierrez. close nephews Miguel, Sergio, and Memo Gutierrez. He is also survived by several other family members and friends. pallbearers, Sergio, Memo, Miguel, Antonio, Alex and Miguelito Gutierrez and Jose Maestas.
