Paulino (Paul) Archuleta
Age 84, passed to a better life on Friday, February 16, 2007. He was born on April 2, 1922 to Antonio Archuleta and Marcelina Leyba-Archuleta in Cebolla, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his in-laws Antonia and Narciso Martinez; sons, James, Leroy, and Felix Archuleta; granddaughter, Ernestina Archuleta; brothers, Baltazar and Felipe Archuleta; sisters, Susie Atencio and Romanita Roybal; brothers-in-law, Tobias Leyba, Vicente Roybal, Antonio Atencio, Joe Baker, and Ted Casados. Paulino was a WWII US Army veteran. He worked for the U.S Post office and the U.S. Forest Service until an illness in 1979. He was active in ranching and enjoyed his horses and cows. He loved politics and was very strong supporter of the Democratic Party. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Archuleta; children, Bobby Archuleta and wife Ruby, Loyda Rodela and husband Steven, Irma Valdez and husband Gregorio, Terry Martinez and husband Joseph, Shirley Whitley; daughter-in-law, Arlene Archuleta, Lorraine Pacheco and husband Max, Luis Archuleta and wife Nena, Ernesto Archuleta and wife Lenora, Genevieve (Pinky) Jacquez and husband Gabe, Tony Archuleta and wife Michelle, Paul Archuleta Jr. and wife Susan, Juan Archuleta, Ricardo Archuleta and wife Darcy, Gilberto Archuleta and wife Jennifer; brothers, David Archuleta and wife Lydia, Jose Archuleta and wife Frances, Mike Archuleta and wife Teddie, sisters, Julia Casados and Della Baker; brother-in-law, Joe Martinez and wife Jan; sisters-in-law, Mary Leyba, Florentina Archuleta, Shirley Archuleta; 43 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Margaret Ellen Sherman
Age 90, a resident of Española passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 18, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Herbert Sherman Jr., who died February 12, 2006; parents, Russell and Mabel Ivy; son, James Sherman; grandson, Mark Renville; And, favorite aunt, Rozella McCarthy, who helped raise her. She is survived by her twin daughters, Jeannette Salazar and Joyce Carroll. Jeannette is married to Joe Salazar of Espanola, and Joyce lives in Alameda, California. FELONIZE MARIA LUCERO
Age 87, a resident of Ojo Caliente, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luciano Lucero; sister, Tillie Archuleta and parents, Gabriel and Rosarito Valdez. Felonize is survived by her daughter, Bernice Archuleta and husband Paul of Ojo Caliente; son, Luciano Lenny Lucero of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Albino Archuleta of Ojo Caliente, Paula Archuleta and companion Eddie Martinez of Ojo Caliente of Ojo Caliente, Lenny Paul Archuleta and companion Bianca Valdez of El Guique, Dominic Aaron Lucero, Marissa Ariel Lucero and Loren Alec Lucero of Corrales and Kailie Liana Lucero of Rio Rancho; great-grandchildren, Jose Luis Archuleta, Eddie L. Sussie Leanor Vigil
Our Beloved Sussie Leanor Vigil, peacefully went home to join her loved ones and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 81 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate of 56 years, Adan Vigil. Parents; Juan and Erinea Vigil. Grandson; Gabriel Fresquez. Brother; Ernesto Vigil and sisters; Margarita Salazar and Angelina Valdez, her Son-in-law; John A. Fresquez. Mrs. Vigil is survived by her daughters; Eleanor and husband Joe Garcia of Los Luceros, Patsy and husband John Castillo of Belen, N.M. and Cindy Fresquez and her Fiance David Maestas of Los Luceros. Her grandchildren include; Joseph Garcia, Charlene Garcia, Suzette and husband Steven Nevin, Rebekah Castillo, Jamie Garcia, Ruby Lopez, Johnny Fresquez, Jeanette Hoover, Elizabeth and husband Chris Goodwin, Hannah Curtis of Albq., Deandra Fresquez and Sara Maestas of Los Luceros. Great-Grandchildren include; Anna Padilla, Zachary Adam Goodwin, John Patrick Nevin, Samuel Adam Nevin and future baby Garcia. She is also survived by her brother Leo Vigil and wife Stella of Chili, N.M. Sisters-in-law; Tillie Arellano and Toni and husband Fidel Alarid of Los Luceros. God-children; Sarah Valdez, Angela Martinez, Tillie Trujillo, Toni Chacon, Wilbert Arellano and Lee Valdez. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. DORIS (J.R.) GONZALES
Age 48, a resident of Española, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orlando and Erlinda Herrera; brothers, Joe and Raymond Herrera; sisters, Mary and Barbara Herrera. Doris was a lifelong resident of Española. She was an avid outdoor person and an immaculate housekeeper. She loved the company of her friends and her loving family. She will be dearly missed. Doris is survived by her children, Amanda Sanchez and husband Gerald, Erlinda Rodriguez and husband Freddie and Miguel Lujan all of Española; sisters, Theresa Gonzales of Hernandez and Helen Herrera of Coyote; brother, Walter Herrera of Coyote; ex-husband, Gilbert Gonzales of Medanales; grandchildren, Victoria Sanchez, Joshua Gonzales, Freddie Rodriguez Jr., Carol Rodriguez, Julia Rodriguez and one on the way and numerous other relatives and friends. JOSEPH EDWARD CUMMINGS
Age 70, a resident of Gallina, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2007 following a sudden and unexpected illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis R. Cummings and Josephine Kaminsky. Joseph was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving after the Korean Conflict. He was the Senior Financial Manager for Sherwin Williams Company, having worked there for 50 dedicated years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who was very generous to all. Joseph is survived by his wife, Consuelo Cummings of Gallina; children, Bobby and wife Darlene, Audrey Dimmock and husband Richard and Diane Plourde and husband Ron all of Connecticut, Gary Dean, Adrian Dean and Isaac Noah all of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Richard G. Cummings and wife Sue of Nebraska and Peter Kaminsky and wife Pat of Arkansas; sister, Gail Viets of Connecticut; grandchildren, PFC Robert J. Cummings and wife Jenny of Iraq/Connecticut, Miguel Cummings and wife Tyler Plourde of Florida; great-grandson, Cipriano Cummings and a great number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. J. VALENTIN LEYBA SR.
Age 82, a resident of Española, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2007 following a short illness. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Josie Leyba; son, Valentin Leyba Jr.; grandson, Tonito Griego; brother, Fred Leyba and sister, Josephine George. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was affectionately known as “Babu”. He is survived by his daughter, Eutimia Sandoval of Española; grandchildren, Dee Dee Valdez and husband Chris, Orlando Griego and Sunee Sandoval all of Española; great-grandchildren, Amor Valdez, Unika Valdez and Lexianna Griego and Angel Nicko Griego and their mother, Crystal Montoya; sisters-in-law, Margaret Leyba of Española and Eduvigen Martinez of Canjilon and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. LITA VIGIL ORTIZ y DAVIS
Age 75, a resident of Nambe passed away on Friday, December 14, 2007 in Colorado Springs, CO. Lita was born to Lorenzo and Senaida Vigil, both are deceased, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert. Lita, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and cousin, you will be missed! You were an extraordinary woman in so many ways. Lita was a lifelong teacher, farmer, artist, poet, dancer, traveler and humanitarian. Her greatest joy was small planes, especially when she was behind the controls. Lita was a graduate of Loretto Academy in Santa Fe and the University of New Mexico. She worked for the Legislative Council early in her career. She was a retired educator who taught in the Española and Santa Fe schools. She touched the lives of many students who have never forgotten her. Lita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Connie Aragon of La Grande, Oregon; daughter and son-in-law, Therese and Blane Volkmer of Colorado Springs, CO.; three granddaughters, Paige, Brittney and Shelby Aragon and one grandson, Blake Volkmer; brothers, Lorenzo Jr., Ben and Longino; sisters-in-law, Rose Vigil and Sophie Vigil, and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. serving as pallbearers, Raymond Ball, Blake Volkmer, Mario Romero, Tommy Martinez, Bert Martinez and Lorenzo Vigil Jr. The family of Lita Vigil Ortiz y Davis has entrusted her funeral arrangements to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley.

Eugene (Gene) Lamkin
Of Los Alamos, N.M., passed away peacefully on December 12, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Donovan, Illinois on July 5, 1921. He lived in Los Alamos for the past 57 years working first for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and later Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Senior Photographer. He traveled frequently during his career working both overseas and at the Nevada Test Site during the 50’s and 60’s. He had a passion and gift for photography and enjoyed providing “a graphic record of events and objects.” During his career he won numerous awards for his Still Photography from the Industrial Photographers of the Southwest.
He served during World War II in the Navy Air and later attended Fullerton Junior College and the Fred Archer School of Photography in California.
Gene loved the Silverton, Colorado area where he built a vacation home, collected massive amounts of rocks, and drove on every dirt road he could find. He also loved watching and feeding the birds and at one time he was nick-named “the Birdman of Los Alamos.” He had over 120 bird houses in his yard that he had designed and built in his shop. He worked with Cub Scouts and elementary students showing them how to make birdhouses and gave them instructions in where to hang them. Once when a student asked if he could buy a bird house, Gene told him that he never sold them, “the birds will only live in them if I give them away.”
Gene is survived by his wife of 39 years Janet Lamkin of Los Alamos; daughter Diane Lamkin and partner Larry Pittsley of Rio Rancho; son Tim Lamkin of Albuquerque; grandchildren Steve Moore and Christine of Los Alamos; Dione Nelson and Steve of Okinawa, Japan; and Amanda Lamkin of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Kyle and Shelby Moore and Jacie Nelson; and sister-in-law Patricia Stein. Gene was preceded in death by Lorraine Lamkin and his parents Nellie and Ernest Lamkin.
Interment has taken place at Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, CA. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, December 27, 2007, 10:00 a.m. at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church in Los Alamos. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses or a favorite charity of your choice.

Chester Woodson
On Tuesday morning, December 18, 2007, the eternal spirit of Chester entered into the presence of his heavenly father. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Charlotte Woodson, Father & Mother-In-Law: Jose and Luiza Roybal, Daughter: Charlotte Lorraine Woodson. Brothers: Paul, Obie, Billy, Alden, and Donnie Woodson; Sisters: Lois, Bonnie, Vivian, Alice and Marlene Woodson. Brothers-In-Law: Joe, Gilbert, Manuel, and Alfonso Roybal; Sisters-in-Law: Ophelia Gebe and Celina Trujillo. Chester was born in Claremore, Oklahoma, on October 13, 1929 to Chester and Charlotte Woodson. He came to New Mexico at the age of 17 to work in Los Alamos as a firefighter, where he met the love of his life, Mary Roybal. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on December 2, 2007. He also worked as a firefighter at the Nevada Test Site where he was instrumental in establishing the fire department there as well as the Pojoaque Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Chester retired as a Captain with the Los Alamos Fire Department (Department of Energy) in 1979 after completing 30 + years of service. Faith and family were the foundation of Chester’s life, and the greatest legacy he leaves behind is his loving family, a treasure chest full of stories, and a well known and respected family business Bar C Metal Roofing Suppliers. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, daughters; Diane Quintana (Tim), Sharon Gonzales (Edmund), Gail Martinez (Ross), Kathy Ytuarte (David); sons: Jerry Woodson (Jody), Brian Woodson (Michelle), Bruce Woodson (Gloria); grandchildren: Vicente Quintana (Anisa), Gregg Quintana (Mary Jo), Kristina Benavidez (Clarence), Tracy Gonzales, June Ortiz (Jimmy), Thomas Gonzales (Nicole), Trudy Lyman (Shane), Amanda, Jared, and Bettie Woodson; Ross Martinez (Leslie), Vanessa Espinosa (Bobby), Eric Ytuarte, Marissa Ytuarte, Joshua Woodson, Nicole, Samantha, and Madeline Woodson. Great Grandchildren: Benicio Quintana, Jeremiah Griego, Isaac, Shea, and Aaliyah Ortiz, Charlotte, Daniel and David Gonzales, Cody, Jess and Wyatt Lyman, Violet and Jade Espinosa, and Mia Martinez. Sisters-In-Law: Carmen Montoya (Ben), Madeline Roybal, Dulce Roybal, and Stella Roybal., Brothers-In-Law: Ray Roybal (Ruby), Tony Roybal (Delfina), Dennis Roybal (Joann). A special person he considered as his own, Kevin Herrera and a special nephew Dan Trujillo (Sharon). He is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. JOSE EVARISTO MONTOYA
Age 83, a resident of Truchas, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Celonires Montoya; parents, Esquipula and Dionicia Montoya; brothers, Rosendo, Pablin, Atanacio and Elizardo Montoya and sisters, Constancia, Cleotilde and Florinda. Evaristo enjoyed and loved his family and was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his children, Laura Vigil and husband Oliver of Ojo Sarco, Amy Hewlett and husband Perry of Santa Fe, Frances Montoya of Truchas, Betty Montoya of Santa Fe, Joey Montoya of Santa Fe, Orben Montoya and wife Patricia of San Antonio, Texas and Leroy Montoya of Truchas; brother, Elefio Montoya of Española; grandchildren, Christopher, Joseph, Miquelita, Perry Jr., Virginia, Joey Jr., Alexis, Leonard, Edward and Fashionette; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Isaiah and Breyonna and numerous other relatives and friends. WILMA MARIE BRUCE
A resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Wilma was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She moved to Los Alamos in the early 1950’s where she spent most of her career working in the payroll office for the University of California (LANL). She loved her cats, Mozart and the Opera. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter. A memorial service will be held in Los Alamos at a later date. Fabiola Dominguez
Age 87, a resident of Chamisal, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2007, following a short illness. She is preceded in death by her husband; Benjamin Dominguez, father and mother; Jose Paz and Leonarda Lopez, son; Daniel Dominguez, Grandsons; LeRoy and Gabriel Gonzales, and James King, sister; Bertha Maestas, son-in-law; LeRoy Gonzales Sr., brothers-in-law; Max Maestas, Flavio Gonzales, and Bill Arant. Fabiola was born and raised in Chamisal, New Mexico. She was employed as a bus driver, cashier at Holiday Inn, and a Grandma Teacher. She was very active in her Community. She also participated in the Senior Olympics. She is survived by her sons; Jacob King and wife Susie of Albuquerque, Benjamin Dominguez Jr. and wife Margie of Albuquerque, and David Dominguez and wife Carmen of Santa Fe, daughters; Dorothy Gonzales of Rodarte, and Marlyn Dominguez and husband Dan of Albuquerque, brothers; Jose Paz Lopez Jr. and wife Logie, Paul Lopez, and LeRoy Lopez, sisters; Betty Arant, Rose Gonzales, Minnie Vigil and husband Alfonso, Naomi Elizando and husband John, Bella Armijo and husband Valerio, sisters-in-law; Kate Vasquez and Ruth Dominguez, grandchildren; Debbie, Jake Jr., Jason, Rebecca, Benjamin III, Amy, Chris, Allen, Dannette, Loretta, Danny, Nina, Geraldine, Daniel, Andrew, and Jennifer, also with 16 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Cecilia R. Campos
Age 75, a resident of Tierra Amarilla, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2007, following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband; Fernando Campos. 2 Brothers; Mike Romero and Perfecto Romero Jr. 1 Sister; Rosalia Atencio. Parents; Perfecto and Christina Romero. Mrs. Campos was one of the founding sisters of the V.F.W. in Tierra Amarilla. She retired from the Rio Arriba County Clerk’s Office after many years of service. She is survived by her son; Tomas Campos and wife Andrea. 3 grandchildren Mauricette (Moricette), Amelie and Jolietoile (Jolie – etual) Campos all of Chama. 1 Brother; Juan Romero and wife Dolores and 1 Sister; Frances “Chica” Lopez both of Tierra Amarilla. JanetAnn Hallmark
Age 46, a resident of Santa Cruz, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. She will be missed. She was not only a great mother but also a great wife and friend. If you met her once you would never forget her. After a long battle with cancer, God decided it was time to take this beautiful angel home. You will be in our hearts forever and we will always love you. JanetAnn is survived by her husband, Dan Hallmark, 3 daughters, Valerie and Vanessa Lay, and Kasey Hallmark; parents, Dionisio and Maria Navarro, all of Santa Cruz; 3 brothers, Danny and Eddie, both of Seattle, WA, and Ernesto Navarro of San Diego, CA.; and many other loving relatives and friends. Aurora Roberta Mondragon
Age 66, a resident of Riverside in Española passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, Honarata Mary Sanchez Mondragon and Gregorio Reymundo Mondragon; and sister, Loretta Montoya. Aurora was employed in Los Alamos for the Zia Co., Pan Am, and Johnson Control doing various jobs. She was a member of the Carmelitas and the Holy Family. She is survived by her sisters and brother, Toni Quintana of San Pedro, Rose and husband Ross Martinez of Chimayo, Gabriel and wife Helen Mondragon of Santa Fe, and Lucinda Archuleta and husband Hilbert of Riverside, and brother-in-law, Joseph Montoya. The following will serve as pallbearers, Glenn Archuleta, Ray and Johnny Montoya, Phil Martinez, Fabian Quintana, Greg and Charles Mondragon, and Eddie Maes.
