AARON SANTIAGO GARCIA

Age 19, a resident of Española, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. Aaron was preceded in death by his father’s, Beenie “Ben” Ray Garcia and Alex Marcos Baca; maternal grandmothers, Delfina V. Varela and Mary V. Gonzales; paternal grandparents, Elena Gallegos, Regina and Herman Valdez and Elisandro “Alex” Baca and uncles, Martin Montoya and Daniel Romero. Aaron was the only son and the apple of his family’s eye. He was their pride and joy. Aaron enjoyed being outdoors and loved fishing, rivers lakes and hunting. He was extremely protective of his family and friends and fond of his pets. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Aaron is survived by his mother, LeAnn Abeyta Baca; sisters, Angel Garcia and Davina Baca; niece, Kaylee Rey Garcia; raised like brothers, Aaron Archuleta and Chris Espinoza; his babies, Diabla and Zeus; grandparents, Santiago “Jim” Abeyta, Stella “Red” Baca, Seferino Garcia Sr., Margarito Baca and Bill and Janelle Schultz; uncles, Henry Abeyta and wife Darlene, Chris Abeyta and wife Sabrina, Seferino Garcia Jr. and wife Merrily, Chris Garcia, Nathan Garcia and wife Leslie, Timmy Sisneros and wife Lauralee and Tony Steven Baca; aunts, Janice Martinez and husband Sammy, Natalie Salazar and husband Julian, Donna Baca, Renee Romero and husband Martin, Patricia Verdugo and husband Angel, Barbara Romero, Beatrice Baca, MaryLou Rendon and husband Armando and Loretta Garcia and numerous great aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. A Dinner will be served at 12:30 p.m. at the Eagles. Serving as pallbearers, Aaron Archuleta, Chris Espinoza, Edgar Chavra, Anthony Romero, LeAnn Romero, Jesse Castillo, Joseph Archuleta, Ruben Espinoza, Daniel Romero, and Kevin Medina. Honorary pallbearers named are, Angel Garcia, Davina Baca, Kaylee Rey Garcia, Devonne Romero, Brianna Romero, Presciliano Espinoza, Tommy Sisneros, Diabla and Zeus Garcia and John Knight. Stella M. (Dallas) Elwess

Was born on December 1, 1927, passed away September 12, 2008. She was a lifetime resident of Chama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lena Deyapp; brother, Lucillo; sisters, Elizabeth Ulibarri, Ophelia Neumeyer and Billie Elwess. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Royal Elwess Sr.; daughter, Lou Gonzalez and husband Jose, all of Chama, Linda Greenwood and husband Harrell of Bloomfield, NM., Lisa Elwess and Randy Salazar of Espanola; son, Royal Elwess Jr. and wife Liz of Chama, and Henry Elwess and wife Josephine of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several other nieces and nephews. Fermin Jaramillo

Age 80, a resident of Ojo Caliente passed away suddenly on Friday, September 12, 2008. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Teresita Jaramillo; father, Juan Luis; mother, Maria Gorgonia Martinez; brothers, Pete, and Manuel Jaramillo and wife Alice, Armando Jaramillo; brother-in-law, Phillip Peraglio. He was a life long resident of Ojo Caliente, and was a well known barber in Espanola and in Los Alamos. He served in the Korean War while in the U.S. Army. He was always willing to lend a hand if anyone needed his help. Fermin was loved and will be missed by his family, friends and especially his grandchildren who would call him “Grandpa Min”. He is survived by his children, Marian and husband Phil Diaz, Andrew Salazar and companion Angie Vigil, Harold Salazar and Ronnie Salazar; grandchildren, Phyllis and husband John Miller, Fabian Diaz, Bridgette Diaz and companion Frank Martinez, Sandra Diaz, Lydia Salazar, Michael, and Sammy Salazar, Donna Padilla and companion Joe, and Steve and wife Dolores; sister, Tillie Peraglio; sisters-in-law, Berni Jaramillo; Erlinda Jaramillo nephews, Ruben and wife Jean Jaramillo Marty and wife Francis Jaramillo, Elaine and husband Dennis Hernandez, Evie and husband Albert Gallegos, Enriqueo and wife Helen Peraglio; great-granchildren, Joslyn Martinez, Regan and Warren Miller and 10 other great grandchildren. LARRY J. BORREGO

Age 54, a resident of Santa Cruz, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 15, 2008. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Santana and Laura Borrego. Larry loved to ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He also enjoyed going fishing and being with his friends. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Mr. Borrego is survived by his brother, Donald Borrego and wife Martha of Albuquerque; nieces, Patience Borrego and Lilly Borrego both of Albuquerque; close friend that was like a brother, Robert “Red” Garcia of Santa Fe and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. FRIEDA SCHILLER

Age 85, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2008 following a lengthy illness. Frieda lived a life of dignity and strength; she was an active member in her community and a friend to all. A special thank you to all her friends and associates at the Betty Erhart Senior Center in Los Alamos - your warmth and friendship meant so much to her. The family would also like to thank the administration and entire staff at the Espanola Valley Nursing Home for their incredible caring and kindness given to our Mother, Grandmother, and friend during her final days. She left us all with a wonderful life’s-legacy of patience, kindness, grace, courage and forgiveness - taught by example simply by the way she lived her life. We will miss her dearly. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Lena Tanenbaum; husbands Jerome Glick and Solomon Schiller; sisters Bernice Tanenbaum, Ida Bender, Myrtle Besser, and brother Bernard Tanenbaum. She is survived by her daughter Kara Chesser and husband Jim of Climax Springs, Missouri; son Stephen Glick and wife Joan of Los Alamos; loving grandchildren Jerry Chesser and wife Kirsten of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lisa Nielsen and husband Joel of West Jordan, Utah, and Gina Glick of Los Alamos. She was blessed with six great-grandsons: Noah, Elijah, Jack, Logan, Jesse, and Alex and wonderful nieces and nephews: Lynn Besser, Donna Turek, Elaine Seidman, Les Bender and Chuck (Cliff) Besser, as well as great nieces and great nephews: Olivia, Jacqueline and Lucy Turek, Rachel and Michael Seidman, and Nathan, Hank and Eli Besser. Age 26, a resident of Arroyo Seco and originally of Chimayo, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Brian was preceded in death by his father, Sammy S. Martinez; maternal grandmother, Dulcinea “Candy” Martinez; cousin who was considered like a brother whom he adored, Marty Trujillo and cousin, Lisa Gallegos. Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife and best friend of 13 years, Ashley Martinez; son and “quate”, Brian Noah Martinez Jr. both of Arroyo Seco; mother, Angelina Martinez of Chimayo; sisters, Kandi Martinez, Teri Martinez and fiancé Stephen Culler and Bettina Martinez all of Chimayo; maternal grandfather, Esquipula Martinez and Laura of Los Ojos; paternal grandparents, Sabino and Louisa Martinez both of Chimayo; cousins like brothers, Orlando Trujillo Jr. and Angelo Trujillo and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Sam S. Martinez

Age 50, a resident of Chimayo, passed away along with his son, Brian Martinez on Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Sam was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, sweetheart and friend. He was especially close to his parents and loved them dearly. He was proud to be an electrician and member of the IBEW Local 611. Sam will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Age 73 resident of El Guique, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2008 following a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by 2 Sons; Dennis and Larry Martinez. Parents; Macario and Josefa Martinez; brother; Steve Martinez. 3 Sisters; Bennie Sena, Emma Romero and Rose Archuleta. Mr. Martinez was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Susie Martinez of El Guique. Susana M. Garcia

Age 98 a resident of Española, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2008 following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frutoso Garcia; Parents; Ventura and Dolores Manzanares. children: Infant Marianita Garcia and infant Daniel Garcia, Edward Garcia, and Ventura Garcia. Son-in-law, Bernard St. Louis; and several loving brothers and sisters. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children: Clorinda St. Louis of Indianapolis, Marianita Fergus and husband Gary of Rio Rancho, Dorila Garcia of Española, Frutoso Garcia of Albuquerque, Bernardo Garcia of Española, Samuel Garcia and wife Melodie of Hanover, MD. and Judy Manzanares of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Maria Inez Garcia of Las Cruces;1 brother, Melquiades Manzanares of Tierra Azul, 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Teresa M. Chacón

Age 82, born March 23, 1926 and crossed over on September 22, 2008. She left this earth as she came into it, a sweet, innocent child of God. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Guadalupita Montoya; step-mother, Maggie D. Montoya; sisters, Ruth, Ramona, Stella and Antonia; brothers, Frank and wife Amadita, Benny, Oswaldo Tibby, step-brother, Joe Saiz and husband late N.M. State Senator Matias L. Chacón and son Matthew. Teresa is survived by her brother, Eloy Montoya and wife Stella; sister-in-law, Melinda Saiz; sisters-in-law, Stella Kulp and husband Russell, Laura Montoya and partner James, and brother-in-law, George Leichtle; sons, Michael, Donald, Ronald Chacón and wife Monica, and daughter, Bernadette Chacón-Nelson and husband Gary; grandchildren, Chanelle, Michelle, Christina, Rogie and Israel Chacón; 2 step-grandchildren, Ashley and Isaac Ortiz and many nieces and nephews. After Catholic School and Santa Fe high school graduation, Teresa attended secretarial school, worked in Los Alamos and Santa Fe, and a few years later met a handsome young law student named, Matias Chacón from Cañon Plaza, NM. After law school they married and she, Matias and later his partner, Pete Melendez set up an Espanola law practice with the expertise of Nora Romero, also a legal secretary. Teresa juggled a career, 5 children, was a Senator’s wife and still had time to tend to the life of living on a farm. She loved to sing, dance and play her piano and organ. She was her church organist and choir director at San Jose de Rio Chama Parish in Hernandez for many years. She also belonged to the Sacred Heart Altar Society and the VFW auxiliary. She leaves behind her love of life, family and special memories. Teresa has been reunited with her creator. Serving as pallbearers, Ronald Chacón, Gary Nelson, Miguel Timoteo Gurule, Jim Myers, Rudy Cordova and Tomas Cordova. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael, Donald, and Israel Chacón and Michael Gomez. ANNELIESE A. SIMPSON

Age 85, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alva A. Simpson and sister, Margarete Wessinghage. Anneliese was born in Hagen Germany and was a translator in WWII and was fluent in quite a few languages. She married her husband Alva A. Simpson Jr. and soon after moved to the US where she owned Margarete store in La Fonda Hotel and later moved to the plaza in Santa Fe. She resided in Abiquiu for the past 40 years where she was known as “Oma” to everyone. Mrs. Simpson is survived by her daughter, M. Elena Reeves of Albuquerque; beloved grandson who she raised as a son, Joe “Little Joe” Boies Jr. and wife Marylou of Medanales; very special niece, Karla Wessinghage of Albuquerque; adored granddaughter who was the love of her life, Nicole Juliana Boies and fiancé Ariel O. Paez’ of Ojo Caliente; great-grandson, Jesse J. Boies and wife Desiree of Medanales; grandson, K. Adrian Reeves and wife Gwen of Albuquerque; great-great-granddaughter who made Anneliese proud and she loved to show her off to everyone, Isabella A. Boies of Medanales and numerous other relatives and friends. To honor her wishes a private memorial will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Santa Fe at a later date. JAMES DUFFY

A resident of White Rock, passed away at the age of 76 on Monday, September 22, 2008 after a lengthy battle with Non-Hogkins Lymphoma. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. James started his career in the U.S. Navy and worked many different jobs before coming to Los Alamos in 1978 where he retired from the L.A.N.L. in 1993. Mr. Duffy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Theresa Duffy; children, Bridget Duffy, Jim Duffy and wife Liz, Susan Terp and husband Paul, Colleen Frye and husband Denver; 13 grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to Los Alamos Visiting Nurses for the wonderful hospice care James received would be greatly appreciated. Age 93, a resident of Cuarteles, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Orlinda was preceded in death by her parents, Encarnacion and Jacinta Armijo; husband, Andres Lopez; sons, Andy, Johnny and James Lopez; brothers, Flavio, Benjamin and Tranquilino Armijo; brothers-in-law, Abedon Lopez and Filiberto and Conce Fresquez. Mrs. Lopez is survived by her sister, Ofelia Velarde of Ojo Sarco; daughters, Virginia Vigil of Española, Carol DeAguero and husband Magge, and Luggie Martinez, all of Cuarteles, Carmen Melnychenko and husband Nick of Texas; sisters-in-law, Josephine Armijo of Chimayo, Porfiria Fresquez of Cuarteles and Zulema Harvey of Santa Fe; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, neighbors and other relatives and friends. Age 88, a resident of Vallecitos went to her eternal rest on Thursday, September 25, 2008. Celina was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Teofila Martinez; aunt who helped raise her, Reynalda Martinez; son, Orlandito; sister, Cora Chacon; grandson, Andrew Chacon and sister-in-law, Cecilia Martinez. Celina was a member of the Sacred Heart Society of Vallecitos and the auxillary of the Morada of El Llanito. Ms. Jaramillo is survived by her daughters, Eileen Chacon and husband Aristeo of Vallecitos and Annabelle Chacon and husband Teofilo of Pomona, CA; grandchildren, Audra Chacon and fiancé Michael Campos, Adam Chacon and wife Therese, Anthony, William and Rowena Chacon and step-grandchildren, Nick, Lynette and Desirae; great-grandchildren, William Jr., Suzan, Sandra, Nevaeh and Teofilo Chacon, Andrew Clavery and Alex Villarreal; brothers and sisters, Abel E. Billy W. Herrera

Age 47 resident of La Puebla passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2008 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Ascencion Herrera, and wife, Lourdes Herrera. Billy is survived by his sons, Mark and companion Renee Herrera, and Billy Herrera, all of La Puebla; step-son, Justin Ulibarri of La Puebla; brothers, Mel Herrera of La Puebla, and James Herrera and wife Frances of Levenworth, KS; nephews, Matthew, Andy, and Lucas Herrera of La Puebla, Jerome Herrera and niece Marquita Brown and husband Larry, all of Levenworth, KS and many loving family and friends. The following will serve as pallbearers, Matthew, and Andy Herrera, Andrew, and Justin Ulibarri, Pilgrim Heart, and Jerry Martinez. The family of Billy W. Herrera has placed their trust in DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.
