FLORA LOPEZ

Age 62, a lifelong resident of Cordova passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008 surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her grandparents that raised her, Vidal and Rosarito Trujillo; father, Fedelino Romero and very special uncle, Crisol Trujillo. Flora was a member of El Coro De La Sagrada Familia de Chimayo and a faithful parishioner of Holy Family Church in Chimayo. Flora was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Deacon Jose Lopez of Cordova; children, Diana Candelaria and husband Gilbert, Veronica Pacheco and fiancé Jerry Martinez all of Española, Joseph Lopez and wife Roberta of Ojo Caliente, Patricia Lopez and Nicole Pacheco both of Cordova; mother, Priscilla Romero; brother and sisters, Mary Rascon and husband Carlos of Alcalde, Vicky Romero, Gilbert Romero and wife Carol all of Cordova, Rose Lujan and husband Walter of Ojo Caliente and Brenda Rael and husband Genaro of Truchas; grandchildren, Danny Jr., Dominic, Angelica, Analise, Adriana, Megan, Rudy, Joseph and Isabella and numerous nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends. The following will serve as pallbearers, Pete and Chris Trujillo, Douglas Rael, Michael Lujan, Vidal and Gabriel Romero. Honorary pallbearers are all her grandchildren. Utilia “Tillie” ArellanO

Age 86, was born September 10, 1922 in Los Luceros and passed away on Monday November 24, 2008 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolfo Arellano Sr.; parents, Benjamin and Senaida Vigil; sister, Rufina Salazar and her husband Leandro and brother; Adan Vigil and his wife Susie and a nephew; Gabriel Fresquez. Tillie was a welder and riveter for the shipyards in Oakland, Calif. She worked as a cook at the Española Hospital and for the Española School District where she retired from after many years of service. Many of the students, now grown, remember her kindness, big loving heart and will be fondly remembered for the extra bread and cookies she lovingly served the children. Tillie, together with her husband Adolfo Sr., operated the Los Luceros horse track for a number of years and had a passion for gardening and loved flowers. Mrs. Arellano is survived by her daughter, Dollie Vigil and husband Duane; two grandsons; Juan-Antonio Vigil and Francisco Vigil. Sister, Toni Alarid and husband Fidel; step-children, Adolfo, Estevan, Arnold, Nelson and Bialquin Arellano, Alice Arellano, Elsie Kinsey, Sally Finney and Tomasita Mercer and numerous other relatives and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be; Juan-Antonio Vigil, Francisco Vigil, Geraldine Sanchez, Michael Sepulveda, Johnny Fresquez and Darren Cruz. JACK F. REYNOLDS

Age 71, a resident of El Llano, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2008 following a lengthy illness. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.F. Reynolds; sisters, Farris, Norma and Betty and brother, Glen. Mr. Reynolds raised Appaloosa horses in the Española area. He retired from the New Mexico Environmental Department in 1978. A very devoted organizer of Environmental Quality for rural living in Northern New Mexico. He was a proud Marine Veteran and was also an avid bird lover both domesticated and wild. Mr. Reynolds is survived by his children, Robin Reynolds and wife Beverly of Española, Scott Reynolds of California and Julie Stout of Truth of Consequences; grandchildren, Rachel Reynolds and Abi Woodmansee both of Española, Mary, Billie and Christopher Stout all of Arizona, Nicholas Stout of Truth or Consequences and Jacqueline Evans of Denver, CO; 4 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Bernardo Lujan Jr.

Age 58, of El Rancho passed away peacefully and content on Monday, November 24, 2008. He is survived by his parents, Bernardo and Annie Lujan of El Rancho; daughter, Rosa Maria and fiancé Robert of Belen; son, Dominic and wife DeAnne of Espanola; one sister, Berlina and husband Sam Ortiz; one brother, Carlos Lujan. Also surviving Bernardo are his 2 precious grandchildren, Marcos and Robert; nephews, Michael Ortiz and wife Winona, Adrian Ortiz and wife Bianca; 5 great-nephews and nieces, Chenoah, Kira, Hailey, Dante and Adrian II, amongst many other relatives and friends. The family of Bernardo Lujan Jr. has entrusted his funeral arrangements to DeVargas Funeral Home.

Salomon H. Mares

Age 72, a resident of Espanola passed away on Friday, November 28, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cipriano and Lucia Mares; brothers, Wilfred (Bavo) and Orlando Mares; sister, Carmen Cook; in-laws, Jacobo and Beatrice Lovato; sisters-in-law, Vangie Duran and Isabelle Romero. Salomon graduated from Menaul High School in 1957. He later became a jockey, racing horses in Chicago and Nebraska. He lived in Chicago for some time then in 1970 he moved to Espanola where he owned and operated Mares Upholstery Shop. He loved to work with wood, made pottery, and also loved to fly his remote control airplane. Salomon will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Frances Mares; son, Salomon Mares II and girlfriend Valerie Martinez; granddaughter, Dezerae Mares; grandson, Santiago Chavez; sister, Christine Albrecht and husband Homer and many nephews and nieces. Demecio Natividad Montoya

Age 83, born December 20, 1924, a resident of Chimayo passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2008. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Melisendro and Felicita Montoya; his first wife, Celia Montoya; six sisters, Antonia Vigil, Patricia Montoya, Asencion Herrera, Flora Sanchez, Bertha and Elena Montoya; seven brothers-in-law, Jose, Simon, Ben Vigil, Tony Herrera, Joe Romero, Joe Sanchez and Evaristo Padilla; one step-daughter, Melanie DeAguero. He is survived by his wife, Rosario Montoya; four brothers, Manuel and wife Ninfa Joan Montoya of Chimayo, Salomon and wife Della Montoya of Peoñia, CO, David and wife Berna Montoya and Leroy Montoya, all of La Puebla; six sisters, Maria Vigil, Eufelia Martinez, Modesta Padilla, JoAnn Vigil of La Puebla, Carmen Vigil of Sombrillo and Cande Romero of Leadville, CO; two step-sons and one step-daughter whom he raised as his own, Tony Romero, Harby DeAguero, and Mabel DeAguero-Gonzales and husband Norberto Gonzales; two special grandchildren, Kimberly and Gabriel and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Fabiola T. Martinez

Age 77 a resident of Española passed away on Friday, November 28, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Q. Martinez; her son, Leo Martinez; parents: Francisco and Simodecea Serrano; brothers: Frank and Amarante Serrano; and sisters: Delphina, Edwina and Stella. Fabiola Martinez was a well known seamstress in the community of Española. Fabiola was a member of the Sacred Heart Society and a Celadora of the Holy Family up until she came across her illness. Fabiola is survived by her daughters: Stella, Mercedes, Priscilla, Molly, Debbie and LaVerne; adopted son, Leo A. Martinez; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous other relatives and friends. Serving as pallbearers: Dennis Martinez, Zadus Trujillo, Orlando Trujillo, Timothy Trujillo, Andrew Sandoval and Michael Martinez. ANTHONY LARRY FERNANDEZ

Age 26, a resident of Cuarteles, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 2, 2008. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose Max and Aurora Fernández and Juan and Penny Lujan. Anthony was born in Long Beach, California and raised in Cuarteles. He played football for Española Jr. High and Española Valley High School. He was also student of CNM. He loved his dogs, sports, skiing, snow boarding, football and was currently training for UFC fighting. He will be dearly missed by all his family. Anthony is survived by his father, Larry Anthony Fernández of Cuarteles; mother, Lagailcia Baylor of Long Beach, CA; half brother, Timothy Baylor; aunts and uncles, Neva and April Baylor, Sunday Dovas, Timothy Holomb of Long Beach, CA, padrinos, Lorenzo and Rosemary Gallegos of Corrales, Manuel and Maxine Montoya of Santa Fe, Harold and Sylvia Fernández of Rio Rancho, Costantino and Hazel Cucciniello of Gaithersberg, MD, Elmer and Theresa Martinez, Catarino and Gladys Ramirez of Albuquerque, Martha Fernández, Leonard and Tina Fernández, Jesse and Carla Fernández and Martin and Cassandra Fernández all of Cuarteles and numerous other cousins and friends. JL “ROBBIE” ROBINSON

A resident of San Pedro went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Comora Irene Robinson and by his son, David. JL was born on September 22, 1917 in a small urban area outside of Texarkana, Texas. JL was an avid fast pitch softball player and entertained the family with stories of his travels through East Texas and many southeastern states playing softball and earning $20 a game. He moved his family from Texarkana, Texas to Northern New Mexico in 1949 first settling in Los Alamos and working at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory but eventually settling in San Pedro and calling it home. He worked at S-Site in the assembly room and, still playing softball, managed and played for the S-Site team in 1951 bringing home the state title that year. He was one of the original members of the Pierotti’s Clowns from 1952 to 1953. He was an avid fisherman and loved pulling his grandkids skiing behind his boat. JL remained active enjoying his family and maintaining his home until he went to be with his beloved wife. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Mr. Robinson was the patriarch of a family extending five generations including his three daughters; Comora Arlene Risinger and husband Jerry, Alice Mae Naranjo and husband Fidel, and Brenda Faye Law; his four sisters, Pearlie and Rosa Mae of Texarkana, Texas, and Colleen and Delores of Bossier, Louisiana; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren. JL was blessed with two very special grand-daughters; Comora Syria Naranjo and Alice Marleen Trujillo, and a special nephew, John B. Good. JACYANA LEIGH GALLEGOS

Age 10 weeks, a resident of Chimayo, born September 24, 2008 and passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 4, 2008. Jacyana was mommy’s angel muffin and daddy’s princess. She will be in our hearts forever. She was preceded in death by her great aunts, Debbie Padilla and Margaret Sanchez; great-uncle, Anthony Sanchez; cousin, Andrew Sanchez and great-grandfather, Richard Gallegos. Jacyana is survived by her parents, Jonathan Gallegos and Rochelle Martinez; grandparents, Paul and Mabel Padilla, Brenda Martinez, Betty Gallegos, Rick Gallegos and girlfriend Talia, Maria and Luben Espinoza and Louella Gallegos; aunts and uncles, Janelle Gallegos, Destinee Martinez, Alicia Martinez and Carlos, Guero Martinez and Jessica, Miranda Martinez and PJ Padilla; close cousins, Damian and Acelynn Martinez, Myriah, Julia, Jazmyn, Selena and Angel Padilla, Kevin and Amie, Matthew Mares; God-mother, Corrine Pacheco and other relatives. David J. Romero

Age 33 a resident of Truchas passed away on Friday, December 5, 2008 unexpectedly. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Carpio Romero; close uncles: David Martinez, Robert Martinez, Bobby Romero, Tobias Romero and Nelson Martinez, Jr.; and a number of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives. David was a carpenter by trade and attended Northern New Mexico College. He is survived by his children: Samantha Romero and Brandon Romero and their mother; Jennfer Lopez all of Alcalde; Haily Romero, Chantel Romero and their mother; Shannon Montoya all of Chimayo; Companion: Lorie Moya of Albuquerque; parents: Ricky and Debra Romero of Truchas; brother, Fernando Romero and girlfriend, Amanda D. of Truchas; maternal grandparents: Nelson and Corrina Martinez of Truchas; paternal grandmother, Carmelita Romero of Cordova; nephew, Ricky Jaden Romero of Truchas; 1 niece, Destiny Romero of Truchas; 10 loving uncles and aunts, numerous cousins and other relatives and friends. Age 80, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh and originally of Canjilon, passed away at the family home on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Jimmy Abeyta; son, Elmer Abeyta; parents, Pablo and Fedelia Maestas; in-laws, Jose Domingo and Anita Abeyta; brothers, Reynaldo, Isaque, Agapito, Salomon and Jose Maestas, sisters, Isabelita and Tonita; brothers-in-law, Faustine Martinez, Jose Baldonado, Jose (Slim) Abeyta, Tony Ortiz and Preston Keevama; sisters-in-law, Reyecita Keevama, Faustina Maestas and Marie Ortiz; daughter-in-law, Rose Abeyta; grandchildren, Ira, Naomi, Gerard, Epiphania Maria. Beatrice Gallegos

Age 72, a resident of Santo Niño, born on May 17, 1936, passed away peacefully at her sister’s home on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. She was born to Miguel and Guadalupita Gomez and was preceded in death by her parents. She was also preceded in death by a niece who was like her own daughter, Sheila Valdez; brother-in-law, Sofonias Valdez. Beatrice was an active member of Las Hermanas de San Antonio at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hernandez. Her pastime and hobbies included singing, dancing, making new friends and enjoying the old ones. She always would put a smile on her families face. Her greatest enjoyment was going to the Ohkay Owingeh Casino and enjoying the friendly environment. Beatrice is survived by her three sisters, Teodora Martinez, Cordelia Martinez and Teresa Valdez; two half-sisters, Sandra Maldonado and husband Zenaido and Isabelle Gomez; nephews and nieces, Dennis and wife Lucille Martinez, David Martinez, Lupe Romero and wife and wife Theresa, Dolores and husband Manuel Lovato, Levi Martinez and wife Linda Jo, Lupita and husband Walter Atencio, Debbie and husband Sam Montoya, Mark and wife Dorothy Martinez, Judy and husband Greg Garcia, Gerrie and husband David Padilla, Denise and husband Richard Pennington, Marie Martinez and companion Dave Alire, Theresa and husband Kenny Flood, Johnny M. Valdez and wife Lydia, Danny Louie Valdez and wife MaryAnn, Randy Valdez and wife Sofie, and Joseph Valdez. Constance H. Lopez

Age 87, a resident of Cuarteles passed away on Friday, December 12, 2008 following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leo Guerin; sons, Leon Guerin and Ray Lopez; parents, Salomon and Tula Hayes; brothers, Tony, George, and Condrado Hayes; sister, Terecita Hayes. Constance was a loving and devoted wife and mother having raised 8 children. She is survived by her husband, Jose Lopez of Cuarteles; children, Patricia Tate and husband Charles of Ardmore, Ok., Mike Guerin and wife Bertha of Hobbs, N.M., Aurelius Lopez and companion Melanie Garcia of El Rito, Sandra Lopez of Santa Cruz, Benny Lopez also of Santa Cruz, Robert Hayes and wife Sylvia of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Petra Sanchez of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Joyce Guerin, step-daughter, Condra Lafreniere and husband Terry of Washington State; brother-in-law, Margarito Lopez and wife Molly of Arizona; 21 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and many loving relatives and friends. Clarence C. Medina

Age 65, a lifelong resident of Dixon, New Mexico, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008. He was preceded in death by a newborn infant, Tina Marie; parents, Frank and Calicia Medina; father-in-law Joe Valdez. Clarence retired from the State of New Mexico and later became a School Bus Contractor for the Espanola Public Schools. His favorite pastimes were riding his four wheeler with his grandchildren, gardening, watching wrestling and the Denver Broncos. Clarence was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be dearly missed. Clarence is survived by his wife, Josie Medina of Dixon; two sons, Freddie Medina, and Clarence Jr. Medina and wife Laverne; daughter, Michelle Medina and companion Anthony Knitter; Michelle Sanchez, whom was like a daughter to Clarence; six grandchildren, Amberlee, Frankie, Freddie Jr, Jason, Katie, and Jalyssa; mother in law, Fedelina Valdez; sisters, Marcella Medina of Dixon, Helen Martinez and Husband Amado of Velarde, Betty Reynolds and husband Charlie of Los Luceros, Dolores Sherman and husband David of Dixon; and sister-in-law Filomena Martinez of Espanola. Age 90, a resident of Coyote passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008. He was born February 14, 1918 in Agua Sarca. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucilla Martinez; parents, Fidel and Bersabe Martinez; brothers, Donaldo, Fidel, Salomon and Luis. Mr. Martinez is survived by his children, Dolores Ortega and husband Severo of Coyote, Marcella Suazo and husband Willie of Albuquerque, Dorella Martinez and husband David of Denver, Bebe Akell and husband Al of Denver, Belarmino Martinez and wife Gloria of Velarde and David Martinez and wife JoAnne of Taos; brothers, Nazario Martinez and wife Connie of Las Cruces, Benito Martinez and wife Piedad of Wyoming; sisters-in-law, Arcelia, Clara and Connie; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Ashley Kimberly Garcia

Age 19, a resident of La Villita, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 19, 2008 at the family home. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Thomas E. Garcia; great-grandmother, Adela Trujillo; and uncle Eric Bustos Sr. She is survived by her significant other, Anthony Martinez; mother Elizabeth Garcia; father, Harold R. Bustos and wife Nora; brothers Joshua Garcia and wife Jessica, Ricky Bustos, Nicholas Bustos; sister, Dawn Aldaz and husband James; grandparents, Johnny and Dorothy Pacheco, Elias and Dora Bustos; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and 1 nephew; Juan, and many friends. JOSE GABRIEL CATA

Age 75, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008. He was a Veteran of the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Nestora Cata; brother, Joe Cata; sister and brother-in-law, Rosa and Joe Pacheco; father-in-law, Jose R. Cata. Mr. Cata is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Margaret Cata; daughters, Judy Cata, Laura Calvert, Stephanie R. Martinez and husband Vernon all of Ohkay Owingeh and April Mierra and companion Kelly Trujillo of Española; grandchildren, Brandon Cata, Marcelino, Darren and Kateri Calvert and Garrett and Everett Martinez; great-grandchildren, Marcus Calvert and Jerome and Destiny Martinez; sister, Povi Aguino and husband Frank of Albuquerque; mother-in-law, Nettie Cata; sister-in-law, Marie Abeyta both of Ohkay Owingeh and many other loving family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers named are all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Cata family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Española Valley.
