Betty Kisbah Cayaditto

Ms. Betty Kisbah Cayaditto, 76, of Crownpoint passed away in Gallup Oct. 9, 1999, after a lengthy illness. She was born July 2, 1923, in Ricon Marquez, N.M. She is of the Mountain Cove People Clan.

Ms. Cayaditto is survived by two daughters, Josephine Jones of Gallup and Jeannie "Sandy" Dawes of Farmington; a niece, Beatrice Woodward of Continental Divide; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Harold and Hugh Cayaditto.

Services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Rollie Mortuary's Palm Chapel in Gallup, with Pastor Larry Teshima officiating. Interment will be at the Crownpoint Community Cemetery in Crownpoint. Pallbearers are Byron Charlee, Tico Charlee Sr., Timothy Dawes, Gabriel Peshlakai, Shannon Peshlakai and Lyle Woodward. Honorary pallbearers are Christopher Billie, Darryl Mathis, Ervin Peshlakai Sr., Ervin Peshlakai and Eugene Peshlakai.

All arrangements are under the direction of Rollie Mortuary in Gallup, (505) 863-4452.

Clifford A. Cheeseman

Clifford A. Cheeseman, 87, passed away Oct. 5, 1999, in Peoria, Ariz. He is survived by his wife, Sheila of Waddell, Ariz.; two daughters, Daryle Gregory of Waddell and Gayle Hassinger of Bellevue, Wash.; a son, David of Farmington; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Clifford was born March 2, 1912, in Brockway Township, near Yale, Mich., the youngest of six children of Walter and Sarah Cheeseman. He and Sheila Kinney, of Fostoria, Mich., were married on Sept. 3, 1938. The couple recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Veteran missionaries, Mr. Cheeseman, his wife and family moved to Farmington in 1952, where they established and operated the American Indian Bible Mission, ministering to the Navajo Indians for more than 46 years.

Mr. Cheeseman was a carpenter by trade. He worked as a foreman for Mossman Construction during the 1950's housing boom in Farmington. He built the AIBM mission station in Farmington, as well as several churches on the reservation over the years. He helped build and maintain buildings at the Methodist Mission in Farmington, and was often called upon to assist in building efforts of other missions on the reservation. These buildings remain as a very tangible memorial to his ministry.

He loved the outdoors, hiking and camping, and had a large rock and mineral collection.

He was "Gramps," not only to his family, but to a host of Navajo children raised at the mission.

A memorial service was held at the Peoria Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The family suggests contributions may be made to the American Indian Bible Ministries, P.O. Box 2030, Farmington, NM 87499.

Katherine Clark

Katherine Clark, 94, died Thursday evening, Nov. 25, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center.

She is survived by three daughters, Bea Ball and husband, Tommie, of Aztec, Evelyn Thomas of Dennison, Texas, and Mary Hales of Lubbock, Texas; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at the First Assembly of God Church in Carlsbad, N.M. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Carlsbad.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of La Quey Funeral Home.

Marilyn Theresa Gurulé-Fails

Marilyn "Theresa" Gurulé-Fails, 46, died at home in Farmington on Nov. 23, 1999.

Theresa was born March 9, 1953, in Albuquerque to Raymond and Phyllis Gurulé.

A cheerleader since the seventh grade, she was voted homecoming queen by her classmates and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1971. She was also an avid volleyball player.

An administrative assistant at Premier Distributing for more than a decade, she was awarded employee of the year for the state and again for the Farmington branch.

Theresa is survived by her two daughters, Amanda Hendrix and husband, Donnie, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Brianne Salazar of Farmington; her two stepdaughters, Lacey and Celeste Fails; her parents, Raymond and Phyllis Gurulé of Blanco; her brothers, Herman Gurulé and wife, Kristi, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Fred Gurulé and wife, Vicki, of Modesto, Calif., Anthony Gurulé of Blanco and Bob Gurulé and wife, Wendy, of Bloomfield; sisters, Stella Harris and husband, Ron, of Gypsum, Colo., and Lou Ella Markle of Farmington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Theresa is also survived by her only grandson, Tye Hendrix, the joy of his Nana's life.

A memorial service will be held today, Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's in Bloomfield with the Rev. Dan Daley and President Robert Rhein officiating. Interment at Blanco Community Cemetery will follow the services.

Amanda and Brianne invite friends and family to join them for a dinner at St. Mary's Parish Hall immediately following interment.

Pallbearer will be Eloy Reyes. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Velarde, Steve Gutierrez, Jose Gutierrez, Paul Atencio, David Jacquez, Archie Archuletta, Brad Gordon, Leonard Pacheco, Kenny Ulibarri, Aaron Page, Henry Humada, Corey Hargas, Gene Garcia, Filbert Trujillo and Robert Chavez.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 2929 Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85016 or the Theresa Gurulé-Fails Cancer Awareness Benefit, Citizens Bank, Animas Valley Branch, 4220 Hudson Street, Farmington, NM 87402.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dan McMullen in coordination with La Quey Funeral Home, (505) 325-9611.

Aurelia (Nene) Harrison

Aurelia (Nene) Harrison of Tijeras passed away Nov. 20, 1999, after battling cancer for 13 years.

Nene Harrison was a 1967 Farmington High School graduate. She also attended the University of New Mexico and received a bachelor's degree in international studies.

Nene is survived by her husband, Gary; two daughters, Marita Harrison of Tijeras and Mike of Albuquerque; her mother, Josie Montoya Vigil of Farmington; sisters, Josie Heredia (Libby) of Farmington and Viola Williamson of Tempe, Ariz.; brothers, Tom Montoya and Ralph Montoya, both of Farmington, and Carmen Montoya of Orlando, Fla.

Nene will be remembered for her warm smile and her steadfast love for family and friends.

Cremation took place immediately after her passing.

Mary Jean Jack

Mary Jean Jack of Farmington passed away Nov. 25, 1999. She was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Mesa, Ariz., to Horace and Georgana Lillywhite.

Mary Jean lived in Mesa until age 14, when her family moved to Aztec to begin a dairy ranch. Mary Jean attended schools in Mesa, Salt Lake City, Farmington and Aztec.

Mary Jean and Nelson L. Jack were married July 20, 1945. Nelson and Mary Jean moved to Dennehotso, Ariz., and later to Shiprock and Two Grey Hills, N.M. Together, they spent 14 years on the Navajo Reservation.

Mary Jean enjoyed life at the trading posts and always valued her experiences there. She and Nelson moved to Farmington in 1959, and together they began a new career in an insurance agency. Mary Jean worked in Nelson's office for 34 years.

Mary Jean is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has served in the Primary, MIA, and Stake and Ward Relief Society.

Mary Jean is survived by her husband of 54 years, Nelson Jack of Farmington and Mesa, Ariz. She is also survived by her three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Mickelson, Mrs. Beth Osborn and Mrs. Helen Poulson; her five children, Monta Smith and husband, Jerry, of Mesa, Larry Jack and wife, Loretta, of Gilbert, Ariz., Deidre Allen and husband, Rick, of Gilbert, Greg Jack and wife, Rhonda, of Gilbert, and LeGrand Jack and wife, Mecheal, of Farmington. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Horace F. Lillywhite and Georgana Lillywhite; brothers, Frank Lillywhite and Leland Lillywhite; and a daughter, Gena Gayle Jack.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Northwest New Mexico Hospice, P.O. Box 3336, Farmington, NM 87499.

Services will be at noon today, Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at the LDS Chapel, 405 Apache St. in Farmington. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, No. 458 County Road 6100, Kirtland, NM, 598-9636.

Minnie B. King

Minnie B. King, 80, of Shiprock passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at the Life Care Nursing Center in Farmington. Mrs. King was born June 10, 1919, in Shiprock.

Funeral arrangements are pending through Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington, 327-5142.

Alton E. Lasater

Alton E. Lasater, 75, formerly of Bloomfield, died Thursday morning, Nov. 25, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County, Okla. The son of Robert and Vilena Lasater, he was born July 2, 1924, at Cimarron, N.M.

Mr. Lasater grew up in Portales, N.M., where he was fire chief and New Mexico state park deputy. He retired as a pipeline welder after working in Argentina and Iran, in addition to numerous places in the United States. Mr. Lasater moved to Guymon, Okla., to be with his daughters. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ila Mae and Annie; and four brothers, R.B., Alvin W., Marion and Sam.

Survivors include a sister, Wanda Tuttle, and a brother, Jerry A. Lasater and his wife, Martha Ann, all of Bloomfield; four daughters, Mary Alice Martinez and husband, Johnny, Olga Groves, Olivia Chavez and husband, Billy, and Vilena Betterton and husband, Bruce, all of Guymon; one son, Pete R. "Chuck" Herrera and wife, Penny, of Madison, Ind.; seven granddaughters and eight grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 27, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Father Scott Adams, Father Jose Carmen and Deacon Joe Cruz.

Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon, Okla., (580) 338-3244.

Edmon McVicker

Edmon McVicker, 82, of Bloomfield passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in Bloomfield. Edmon was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Union Parish, La.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington, with Jack Wheat officiating.

Pallbearers will be Sid Shepard, Rick Lamphere, Jon French, Calvin Derrick, David Hellgeson and Charlie Timms.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Frances McVicker of Bloomfield; one son, Kenneth Henley of Farmington; one daughter, Betty Hellgeson of Albuquerque; one sister, Zula Brantley of Marion, La.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington, 327-5142.

Betty Plumb

Betty Plumb, 70, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at San Juan Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by a son, Tony Plumb of Bloomfield; daughter, Terri Plumb of Springerville, Ariz.; grandson, Shawn Plumb and granddaughter, Katelyn Plumb; seven brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services are pending at the Jewkes Mortuary in Springerville, Ariz.

Local arrangements are under the direction of La Quey Funeral Home.

Kenneth Ricketts

Kenneth Ricketts, 54, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Scottsdale, Ariz. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; son, Scott Ricketts of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Tracie Ricketts of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; parents, Colin and Hazel Ricketts of Scottsdale; brother, Rick Ricketts and wife, Rei, of Japan; and sister, Paulan Ricketts of Scottsdale.

Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of La Quey Funeral Home.

Jesse Shindler

Jesse Shindler, 84, of Bloomfield passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at San Juan Regional Medical Center. Jesse was born Feb. 19, 1915, in Altoga, Texas.

Funeral arrangements are pending through Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington, 327-5142.

Gordon Goodding Woods

Gordon Goodding Woods, 77, was called home on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 24, 1999, in Farmington. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle and good friend to all. He will be missed greatly, but to all who knew him, we are grateful to have known such a wonderful man.

Gordon was born in Farmington on Feb. 25, 1922, and attended elementary and high school in Farmington, graduating in 1939. Later that year he attended the Fort Lewis branch of Colorado A&M college in Hesperus, Colo., where he graduated in 1941.

In the fall of 1941, Gordon enrolled at New Mexico State University, where he worked toward a degree in business management until 1943, when he was called to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

After successfully completing the cadet flight training program and anticipating receiving his wings, Gordon was reassigned, due to minor health problems, as an air controller in California and completed his duty in Hawaii.

Upon completing his service in 1946, Gordon returned to New Mexico and entered the University of New Mexico, where he went on to graduate with a degree in business administration in 1947.

After graduating, Gordon returned to Farmington to work for his uncle Ed and father Lou at the Woods Title and Insurance Company now known as Woods Insurance Service. In 1951 Gordon and his brother-in-law, Herbert Dickinson, bought the company and remained in business until 1984 when, due to health problems, Gordon sold the business.

Gordon was always active in community, business and political affairs in Farmington and San Juan County.

Gordon served four years on the Farmington town board, six years on the Planning and Zoning Commission, was a member of the board of directors of the Farmington Chamber of Commerce, was president of the Noonday Lions Club and the San Juan Knife and Fork Club, and served as president of the board of directors of the San Juan Regional Medical Center.

Earlier this year, in recognition of his good works, the Chamber of Commerce awarded Gordon the Humanitarian of the Year award for 1998.

Throughout his life, he was a member of the First Methodist Church enjoying service in numerous positions.

Survivors include his sister, Louise Dickinson, and her husband, Herb, of Farmington; his wife of 48 years, Marvie Woods of Farmington; three children, Gayle Krens and husband, Ron, Brenda Betancourt Rivera and husband, Fred, Scott Woods and wife, Angie, all of Farmington; 11 grandchildren, Amber Krens Ford and husband, Jerry, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Shannon, Keisha, Kaitlyn and Mikayla Krens of Farmington, Addie Betancourt Abbott and husband, Todd, of Farmington, Jeremy and Tristin Betancourt of Farmington, Hailey, Mitchell and Marah Woods of Farmington; and one great-grandson, Alik Abbott of Farmington.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Louis P. Woods and Addie Goodding Woods.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at First United Methodist Church, 807 N. Monterey Ave. in Farmington, with the Rev. Robert Bellows officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sam Ricketts, Dr. Allen McCulloch, Mike Dimond, James Ray, Terry Rowell and Dennis Volkerding.

The family has requested contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the San Juan Regional Medical Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of La Quey Funeral Home.

Ben C. Bryant

Ben C. Bryant died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was a retired welder in the boilermakers and a member of Antioch United Methodist church.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Tony Dighiera of Farmington.

Jerry Garland Collins

Jerry Garland Collins, 63, passed away at Navapache Regional Medical Center in Show Low, Ariz., on Feb. 25, 2000. Mr. Collins was born in Tucumcari, N.M. on Aug. 12, 1936.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and was issued an honorable discharge in October of 1962. He later met and married Frances Joyce Gibson. He worked most of his life as an electrician.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Joyce Gibson Collins of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two sons, Gerald David McClellen and wife, Yolanda, and Kerry Douglas McClellan and wife, Michelle; three daughters, Kimberly Joyce McCleve, Jerri Garland Hofer and April Dawn Collins. He is also survived by four brothers, Ernest Collins and wife, Darlene, Tom Collins, Eddie Collins and wife, Patricia, and Lee Collins; two sisters, Mary Beth Collins Christy and Kay Collins; and his mother by love, Edie Collins; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and 19 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene V. and Nora Robbie Burks Collins; one sister, Robbie Collins Anderton; and one brother, John Collins.

Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 1, and again one hour prior to services, at Fletcher's Mortuary Chapel in Show Low.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Fletcher's Mortuary Chapel in Show Low. Burial will be at the Flora Vista Cemetery in Flora Vista, N.M., at noon on March 3, 2000. Graveside service will be conducted by the Elks Lodge.

Arrangements are with Fletcher's Mortuary of Show Low.

John Derald Ferrari

John Derald Ferrari passed away at his home in Bloomfield Sunday night, Feb. 27, 2000. He was born in Durango on Feb. 23, 1930, and was a resident of Bloomfield for all of his 70 years.

Derald attended school in Aztec. He began working at the Gas Company of New Mexico at the age of 16, and retired in 1988, as measurement superintendent, after 42 years of hard work and dedication.

Derald was a well-respected and highly accomplished rancher, horse trainer and competitor. He judged and received honors in numerous national and world competitions. He and Patricia, his wife of 21 years, owned and operated the Ferrari Ranch, a well-established training and breeding facility east of Bloomfield. Derald was also co-owner of Ferrari Gas Measurement since 1993, along with his brother, Buddy.

Derald was a beloved husband, father of seven, grandfather of 22, great-grandfather of seven, and dear friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Ferrari.

His remaining family members include his mother, Albina; wife, Patricia Ferrari; sons, Rudy Glen and wife, Lynn, of Burns Flat, Okla., Derald Vince and wife, Helen, of Farmington, Michael and wife, Terry, of Bloomfield, and Mitchell and wife, Deb, of Aztec; daughter, Edith Sheree Ferrari of Aztec; stepson, Ryan M. Haag and wife, Amanda, of Bloomfield; stepdaughter, Amanda Leigh Haag of Redondo Beach, Calif.; brother, Rudy E. "Buddy" Ferrari and wife, Judy, of Bloomfield; and sisters, Evelyn Wimsatt and husband, Bob, of Bloomfield and Anita Crane of Aztec.

Funeral services for Derald will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2000, at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield, with Jack Wheat officiating. Interment will be at the Bloomfield Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, David, Anthony, Shane, Jacob, John Brandon and Daniel Ferrari. Honorary pallbearers are Buck Wagner, Rojo Wilson, Leroy Whitley, Frank Perkins, Herb Batchelor, Aubry Prater, Jack Ward, Chad Boognl, Jimmy Wood, Calvin Wood, Troy Wood, Brian Ferrari, Lance Ferrari, Denny Ferrari, Carlos Florez, Ramon Florez and Marco Florez.

Derald will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Funeral arrangements are with Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 334-9332.
