James Leon Price, 82
Leon Price, 82, formerly of Clovis, a retired insurance agent, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was born on Nov. 21, 1921, in La Junta, Colo., to Jim and Neva Price.
He married Faye Crabtree on June 28, 1941, in Portales. He was a World War II veteran. Family members said he enjoyed playing golf and loved being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry Price; and a grandson, Troy Reiser.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rexy Randall of California and Betty Reiser (and husband, George) of Clovis; two brothers, C.B. Price (Imogene) of California and Cork Price (Pat) of Nevada; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Whitney and Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home of Phoenix.
Services have been held.

Lloyd W. Jones, 74
Lloyd W. Jones, 74, of Albuquerque, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque.
He was born on May 1, 1929, in Wellington, Texas, to Jewell and Andrew Jones.
He was descended from early Texas Panhandle settlers. In 1942, the family moved to a farm south of Portales. He attended and graduated from Portales High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Etolia Jones in October 1949 in Portales.
He worked as a telephone lineman and an electrician for the majority of his life in Portales, Wilcox, Ariz., and Ruidoso before moving to Albuquerque in 1981. He worked in apartment management for a number of years at the U.S. DOE Central Training Academy’s Life Fire Range. He was a member of the Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Albuquerque.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Col. (Ret.) Guy Jones (and wife, Gail) of Albuquerque; a daughter, Pam Fagan (Charles) of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; a brother, Burrell Jones of Tulia, Texas; and a sister, Emma Lou Fry of Lubbock.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Albuquerque.

Jessie Lee Hobbs, 90
Mrs. Jessie Lee Hobbs, 90, of Portales, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, in Midland, Texas.
She was born on May 14, 1913, in Dora, to Robert Lee and Mattie Lou Stinson Yoachum.
She moved to Portales with her family in 1918. She graduated from Portales High School in 1930. She married Chester A. Hobbs on July 2, 1932, in Portales. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Portales Woman’s Club. She served as Past Matron of Portales Chapter No. 26 Order of the Eastern Star and served for several years on the Advisory Board for the local chapter of Rainbow for Girls. After the death of her husband, she moved to Midland to be near her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl and Stinson Yoachum; a sister, Norene Thomas; a son-in-law, Larry Virgin; a son, Ray Hobbs; and her husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Bobby Virgin of Midland; a grandson, Michael Hobbs of Clovis; a granddaughter, Amanda Rodriguez of Farmington; a great-granddaughter, Amanda Rodriguez of Farmington; two sisters, Della Mae Little of Tucson, Ariz. and Lucy Faye Smith of Muleshoe; and several nieces and nephews, including, Patricia Thatcher and Marilyn Gardner, both of Portales and Jessie Robinson of Tucumcari.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
Honorary pallbearers are all longtime friends and her family.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Midland, P. O. Box 2621, Midland 79702.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Portales Cemetery.

America Rose Avila Parra
America Rose Avila Parra of Lubbock died on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at the University Medical Hospital in Lubbock.
She was born on Jan. 1, 2004, in Lubbock to Marcelino Avila and Angelica Parra.
She was born three months premature.
Survivors include her parents; grandfather and grandmother, Ignacio Parra and Cruz Parra, both of Portales; two aunts, Norma Parra of Kansas City, Kan., and Silivia Martha (and husband, Roy) of Levelland, Texas; and several uncles, including Tony Parra of Portales; Rodney Avila, Gabriel Avila and Bobby Joe Avila, all of Midland, Texas; Demitre Avila of Nashville, Tenn.; Victor Avila of Arlington, Texas, and Johnny Avila.
Arrangements were by Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Services have been held.

Clayton Stokes, 16
Clayton Stokes, 16, of Causey, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, in Roosevelt County.
He was born on March 21, 1987, in Carlsbad, to Cathy and Jim Stokes.
He grew up in Causey and attended Dora schools. He was active in both varsity basketball and baseball at Dora High School. He enjoyed riding horses and snowboarding and was a member of the Dora FFA. Family members said he enjoyed working in construction with his father and two brothers, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Tyrel and Matthew Stokes, both of Causey; his grandmother, Margaret Thoma of Truth or Consequences; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Michael Chaves will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dora.
Pallbearers are Johnny and Efraim Lopez, Drake and Dylan Radcliff, Layton and Travis Belcher, Matt Taylor and Taylor Skelly.
Honorary pallbearers are his classmates, members of the Dora basketball and baseball teams, Ty Thatcher, Ket Pettigrew and Rudy and Israel Lopez.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Portales.

Anna Joyce Hileman, 88
Anna Joyce Hileman, 88, of Clovis died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Senior Citizen Resident Center.
She was born Oct., 18,1915, in Elgin, Okla., to George and Nellie Montgomery West.
She married James Polk Hileman on Feb. 6, 1946, in Clovis. She was a homemaker who loved to crochet afghans and keep a garden, especially flowers, family members said. A member of Portair Women’s Club, she attended Fellowship Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Larry Dwayne Hileman; two sisters, Lena May Halter and Pat Johnson; and two brothers, Travis West and Chesley West.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Hileman (and wife Glenda) of Clovis and Kenneth Hileman (and Martye) of Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren, Sheridan Hileman, Kendra Hileman, Lindsey Hileman, Mike Reeves and Jamie Morton; and five great-grandchildren, Spencer Morton, Tanner Morton, Collin Reeves, Hayden Reeves and Tyler McCoy.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Muffley Funeral Home. The Rev. Ted C. Bailey will officiate. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Wade Davis, Rusty Davis, Rick Johnson, Joe Martinez, Sheridan Hileman and Mike Reeves.
Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Citizen Resident Center, 2210 Mabry Drive, Clovis, NM 88101.
Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church.

Carrie Young, 77
Carrie Young, 77, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis.
She was born May 9, 1926, in Oakhurst, Texas, to Muriel Lucille and James Coleman Dulaney. She married Rayford Young on May 7, 1969, in Fort Worth, Texas.
She grew up in the Houston, Texas, area with several siblings and attended school in Spendora, Texas. She and her husband moved to Portales in 1969.
She was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9515 Women’s Auxiliary, where she had been active and supportive. She was an active member of the Portales Church of the Nazarene and was a loving wife and mother, family members said. Her hobbies included fishing and animals and breeding Chihuahuas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died March 15, 1987; a daughter, Lillian Talley; an infant son, Travis Ray Hunter Jr; and a step-son, Joe Young.
Survivors include three sons, Martin Fulcher (and wife Gail) of Cleveland, Texas, Jerry Hoffa of Arlington, Texas, and Travis Hunter (and Cindy) of Seven Points, Texas; three stepsons, Mike Young of Arlington, Don Young of New York, and Steve Young (and Kathy) of Portland, Ore.; three daughters, Velma Webb (and Billy) of Morgan, Texas, Shirley Blackburn (and Bob) of Arlington and Carrie “Sissy” Bogaski of Arlington; her mother-in-law, Annie Williams, of Clovis; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Darryl Tennefos will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Grady Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Retirement Ranch in Clovis.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday graveside at Grady Cemetery

Edith Mae Akers, 93
Edith Mae Akers, 93, of Clovis, a seamstress, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Laurel Plains Healthcare in Clovis.
She was born on Nov. 8, 1910, in Dora, Nolan County, Texas, to George R. and Willie Bloxom Sagely.
She married William L. Akers on Oct. 17, 1931, in Clovis. She was a resident of Pleasant Hill where she farmed with her husband. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Good Sams and the Senior Citizens Square Dance Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Ida Mae Martin; and five sisters, Inez Landers, Emily Hargas, Fern Weber, Anna Belle Edwards and Maxine Sagely.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Dianna Boatman (and husband, Charles) of Clovis and Dalene Call (Keith) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; three great-grandsons, Paul Cash (Bonnie) and Lukas Cash, all of Portales, and Kyle Call of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and a sister, Bennie Perry of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Pastor Larry Tedrow will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Honorary pallbearers are all her friends and neighbors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
Services are at 3 p.m. Friday at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis.

Iris Terrell, 89
Iris J. Terrell, 89, of Wichita, Kan., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in Wichita.
She was born on May 25, 1914, in Elida, to Louis and Pearl Laughlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Lewis Terrell.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Lyle of Wichita; a granddaughter, Pamela Swedlund of Wichita; a grandson, Eric Swedlund (and wife, Joni) of Springfield, Va.; and four sisters, Lucille Laughlin of Clovis, Maxine Kilgore of Las Vegas, Nev., Lavon Fassauer of Canyon, Texas, and Christine Barnett of Portales.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Humane Society.
Arrangements are by Old Mission Mortuary of Wichita.
No services will be held.

Molly Teague, 64
Molly Teague, 64, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1939, in San Antonio, to Ruby and Walter Rodgers.
Her father was a trapper and game warden and the family moved from place to place in New Mexico while she was growing up. When she was 13 or 14 the family settled in Portales.
She married Charlie Teague on Sept. 25, 1958, in Portales. She and her husband lived in several different locations before settling in Bovina where she lived the majority of her adult life.
About 18 months ago she returned to Portales to make her home. Recently she had moved to an apartment in Golden Acres. Family members said she was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James, Bob and Wally Rodgers; and three sisters, Jean Mays, Betty Mays and Frances Murray.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Chuck Teague (and wife, Susan) of Friona; two grandchildren, Lacy Teague and Matthew Teague; a brother, Joe Rodgers of Queens; and two sisters, Ruby McCain and Kathy Vaughn, both of Portales.
Burial was at Friona Cemetery.
The Rev. Steve Patterson officiated the services.
Honorary pallbearers are Tabor and Tyler Smith, Jarrett Vaughn and Vicente, Rafael, Geraldo and Luis McCain.
Arrangements were by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services have been held.

William H. Windley Jr., 32
William H. Windley, 32, of Portales died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in Clovis.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1971, in Fort Bragg, N.C., to William Sr. and Evelyn Bryant Windley.
He was in the U.S. Air Force. He served in Desert Storm and was an aircraft mechanic, crew chief for the F-111 Aircraft at Cannon Air Force Base. He came to Clovis in 1994. After his discharge from the Air Force he later worked with computers and went to school at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales where he was in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
He was working on his masters degree and was a computer information instructor at Clovis Community College. In his earlier years he was active in track and field, enjoyed basketball, but most of all he loved being a father, family members said. He attended Victory Life Church in Portales.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Edward Baldwin; and his grandmother, Ercelle Bryant.
Survivors include two sons, Darius Windley of Clovis and Dorian Windley of Dallas; his parents, William Sr. and Queen Windley of Springlake, N.C., and Evelyn and Harry Craighead of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Kim Brooks (and husband, Cleo) of Asheboro, N.C., and Gigi Miller of Antioch, Calif.; his grandmother, Clero Baldwin of Cameron, N.C.; seven nieces and nephews.
The Rev. David Markham will officiate the services.
Cremation has taken place.
Burial will be at the Fort Bragg National Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the William H. Windley Jr. Scholarship Fund, in care of Clovis Community College Foundation.
Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
Services are at 6 p.m. today at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton in Clovis.

Inez McCain Brown, 95
Mrs. Inez McCain Brown, 95, of Portales, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1908, in Hamlin, Texas, to Bertha and Henry Clay Bush.
She grew up on the family farm in Paducah, Texas. She married Lee McCain in 1924. They moved to Portales in 1950 from Enochs, Texas. A year later, Mr. McCain passed away. She married Richard Brown on Dec. 3, 1954. He passed away in 1979. She raised nine children. Family members said she was an excellent cook and homemaker who enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, reading and watching television. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Portales.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lillie Standridge and Bernice Morrison; three sons, Wesley, Jake and Koie McCain; two daughters, Laurella and Carma Leta McCain; and by both of her husbands.
Survivors include a son and two daughters-in-law, Roy McCain (and wife, Ruby) and Sammie “Mrs. Koie” McCain, all of Portales; three daughters, Elsie Wheeler (Edwin) of Weatherford, Texas, Corine Gossett (Harold) of Portales and Colleen and Jerry Widener of Ruidoso; three step daughters, Patsy Bennett (Charles) of Belen, Linda Lutes (Roger) of Granbury, Texas and Billie Jean Russell (Truman) of Los Lunas; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Portales Cemetery.

Ted A. Clark, 89
Ted Allen Clark, 89, of Central, Ariz., died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004.
He was born on May 8, 1914, in Dickens County, Texas, to Ben and Alice West Clark.
He grew up in Texas and New Mexico. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1932 and from West Texas State University in Canyon in 1935. He married Mamie N. Fraze on Oct. 12, 1935. After his retirement in 1977, he pursued his love of music, especially, old-time fiddle music. He competed in, judged and accompanied others in many fiddle contest in New Mexico, Arizona and Idaho. In 1980 he was the Old Time Fiddler State Champion of Arizona, family members said. He was inducted into the New Mexico Old Time Fiddlers Hall of Fame in 1994. He married Shirley L. Coke on May 18, 1983.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane; a brother, Roy; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Virginia Wales (and husband, Johnny) of Mertzon, Texas, Barbara Weidner (Allen) and Susan Hendershot (Haskel), all of Gonzales, Texas; four sons, Joe Clark (Linda) of Cottonwood, Calif., Ben Clark (Carol) of Oroville, Calif. and Tom Clark (Karen) and Mike Clark (Ann), all of Rogers; a sister, Dora Dean Evans of Roswell; a brother, Gebo Clark of Amarillo; 21 grandchildren; four step-children, David Perkins (Stacey), Nancy Payne, Annette Slade (Joe) and Russell Perkins; 16 step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was buried at Central Cemetery in Central, Ariz.
Pallbearers were Joe, Ben, Tom and Mike Clark and David and Russell Perkins.
Arrangements were by Caldwell Funeral Home of Safford, Ariz.
Services have been held.
