Nadine Tidwell
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Clovis.
Mrs. Nadine Tidwell, 64, of Portales, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born March 13, 1941, in Mobile, Ala.
She married Rodney Tidwell on July 10, 1958, in Clovis.
They moved to Portales in 1977. Family members said she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was always generous with anyone in need, especially family members.
She was preceded in death by a son, Randall Tidwell; and a daughter, Victoria Lesly.
Survivors include her husband of Portales; two grandchildren, Natalie Cimarron (and husband, Joe) of Albuquerque and Keyunna Tidwell of Pawnee, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Karissa Hall, D’Marie, Warren, and Brandon Tidwell; and her mother, Velma Dana.
Jon Forrest and Ron Eggleton will officiate the services.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Elfigo Montano, 56
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Mr. Elfigo Montano, 56, of Portales, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005 in Portales.
Mr. Montano was born June 21, 1949, in Portales to Rosa and Juan F. Montano. He lived in Portales all of his lived. He served in the New Mexico National Guard for several years, and was transferred to active duty. During active duty he served for a time in Germany.
He worked for several years as a mechanic and a carpenter, but had been disabled and unable to work for the past several years.
He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.
He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, family members said.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Connie Montana.
He is survived by two sons, Anthony Elfigo Montano of Amarillo and Teofilo Juan Montano of Portales; two daughters, Mary Ontiveros (and husband, Chris) of Portales and Tina Lee Moore (Andre) of Temple, Texas; four grandchildren, Alexandra and Montano and Mireya and German Ontiveros; four brothers, Seferino Montano, Isaac Montano and Rudy Montano, all of Portales, and Jerry Dean Montano of Bossier City, La.; four sisters, Nina Baca and Rose Carter, both of Portales, Patsy Jaquez of Hobbs and Lucy Cancino of Roswell.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Monday at St. Helen Catholic Church.
Tobin Hitt will perform the services.
Pallbearers will be Seferino Montano, Isaac Montano, Rudy Montano, Jake Lopez, David Montoya, Steven Ryen and Jerry Montano. Honorary pallbearers are family and friends.
Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Victoria Lesly, 44
Services: No formal services are planned at this time.
Mrs. Victoria Lesly, 44, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at her home in Portales.
Mrs. Lesly was born Dec. 18, 1960, in Clovis to Nadine and Rodney Tidwell. She lived her entire life in Clovis until a short time ago, when she moved to Portales to assist in the care of her mother, who was seriously ill. She was employed as a home health care worker in Clovis.
Family members said she was a devoted daughter and mother and was always outgoing and fun-loving.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Tidwell.
She is survived by her parents (though her mother died the following day); a grandmother, Velma Dana of Portales; her husband, Ivy Lee Lesly of Estancia; a daughter, Natalie (and husband Joseph) Cimarron of San Felipe Pueblo and one grandchild, Karissa Hall of Germany.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Iva Brooks
Services: Have been held.
Mrs. Iva Brooks, 87, of Portales, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on June 15, 1918, in the Causey-Lingo area at a settlement known as Emzy, to Iva and Reubier L. Waller.
She grew up in the Emzy-Lingo area and went to school near there. She married Britt Brooks on June 9, 1940, in Rogers. They ran a dairy farm for many years. They retire in the mid-1970s and moved to Portales in 1989. She was a member of the Dora Church of Christ for many years. After moving to Portales she attended the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ.
Family members said she loved to play ’42, did a lot of canning, was known for her chocolate cream and coconut cream pies and cherry cobblers, and enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Thomas and Arva King and J. W. Waller; a sister, Marjorie Thomas; and her husband.
Survivors include a son, Robert Brooks (and wife, Linda Beth) of Tijeras; a daughter, Linda Custer (Roy) of Rogers; four grandchildren, Chad Custer (Beverly) of Albuquerque, Cathryn Schilling (Dan) of Waurika, Okla., Barry Brooks (Mary Jo) of Tijeras and Britt Brooks (Karen) of Dallas; nine great-grandchildren, Cole and Lexy Custer, Brianna and Katilyn Schilling, Nathaniel, Alex, George, Benton and Eric Brooks; and a brother-in-law, Randy Brooks (Margetta) of Yukon, Okla.
David Bennett and Jack Merrick will officiate
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Chad Custer, Barry Brooks, Dan Schilling, Ernie Marshall and Wylie and Waylon Waller.
Honorary pallbearers are Ben Fuller, Johnny Lieb, Dale Brown and Jack Merrick.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Dee Arnold
Dee Arnold, 49, of Lazbuddie, Texas, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, in Amarillo.
He was born July 23, 1956, in Tulia, Texas, to Walter and Gail Arnold. He worked as a cowboy for feedlots and ranches throughout Texas, Kansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. He married Pat Heckman of Claude, Texas, on Nov. 24, 1973.
He is survived by his parents; three children, Monica Whisenant, Jay Arnold and John Arnold; one brother, two sisters and a grandmother.
Brother Jess Little and Brother Chad King will officiate the service.
Burial will take place at the Silverton Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to Odyssey Hospice of Amarillo.
Arrangements are by Myers-Chancellor Funeral Home of Silverton, Texas.

Janet Hauptmann
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Portales.
Mrs. Janet Hauptmann, 58, of Portales, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at her home in Portales.
She was born April 11, 1947, in Blue Island, Ill., to Florence and Joseph Seleb.
She grew up in Calumet Park, Ill., and attended grade school and high school in the area. She graduated from Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in 1965. She married Rick Hauptmann on June 17, 1967, in Chicago, Ill., at Zion Community Church. She moved to Clovis in 1987 and then to Portales in 1996.
She retired in 2003 as an Educational Assistant with the Portales Public Schools. She appeared on the Creative Living show on public television with Cheryl Borden giving cooking demonstrations and often taught cooking classes through the Extended Learning program at Eastern New Mexico University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Chapter BE of PEO sisterhood.
Family members said she loved traveling and working with children. She was an excellent cook, and had a number of recipes that had been published in several cookbooks.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Erika Peltomen (and husband, Vance) of Howe, Texas; two brothers, David Seleb (Elaine) of Blue Island, Ill., and Joseph Seleb of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, JoAnn Kruczek of Crestwood, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends
The Rev. Harry Riser will officiate services.
Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Huybregts, Greg Hobbs, Melvin Lovorn, Jack Williamson, Dennis Edwards and Danny Earp along with all her other close friends.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales

Michael Pace
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Steed-Todd Chapel.
Michael Ray Pace, 51, of Clovis, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born Feb. 5, 1954, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Henry and ElJuena Gibbs Pace.
He was a welder and longtime Clovis resident. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Family members said he was a loving father, son and brother, and would help people with anything.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Billy Pace and Albert Jaquez Jr.
He is survived by a son, Michael Pace Jr. of Clovis; a daughter, Brandy Pace Crider of Ingram, Texas; his mother; four sisters, Geneva Smith, Jean Crook and Teresa Jaquez, all of Clovis, and Virginia Turner of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Henry Pace Jr. of Portales and Bobby Pace of Clovis; three granddaughters, Lorrie Crider, Lee Ellen Crider and Rebecca Harris; and two grandsons, Joshua Sparks and Gary Sparks.
Cremation has taken place.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Adriana Rodriguez
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Adriana L. Rodriguez, 20, of Portales, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at Roosevelt General Hospital.
She was born Jan. 24, 1985, to Diana (Baca) and Arthur Rodriguez. She graduated from Portales High School in May 2003.
Family members said she enjoyed music, movies, and her computer she received from the New Mexico Make-A-Wish Foundation. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother; a brother, Brian Joel; a grandmother, Manuela Rodriguez; and a grandfather, Arturo L. Baca.
She is survived by her father; a brother, Manuel (and wife, Karen); a niece, Mariah of Amarillo; a grandmother, Emma A. Baca; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
Father Tobin Hitt will officiate.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Ashes will be interred in Portales Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory of Roswell.

Edward D. Garcia
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Mr. Edward D. Garcia, 75, of Portales, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at his residence in Portales.
He was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Littlefield, Texas, to Ramoncita and Pablo Garcia.
He grew up in Encino where he attended school and from an early age helped care for his grandparents. He was married to Katie Larranaga in August 1948 in Encino and soon went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. He also farmed and later worked as a cement finisher until his health began to fail.
Family members said he enjoyed keeping a nice yard and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Pablita Garcia.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Paul Garcia (and wife Angelita) of Santa Maria, Calif., Jerry Garcia of Portales and Lawrence Garcia (Linda) of Albuquerque; a daughter, Connie Wilson of Portales; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Antonio Garcia of Vaughn; a half-sister, Domie Rackler of Roswell; and a son-in-law, Alfonso Gomez of Portales.
Father Tobin Hitt will officiate services.
Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Burial will take place in Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alfonso Gomez, Adam Gomez, Lawrence Garcia. Anthony Garcia, Chris Garcia and Israel Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers will be family members and friends.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Arlan L. Davis
Services: 4 p.m. Friday at the Portales Cemetery.
Mr. Arlan Lamar Davis, 52, died Sept. 23, 2005, in Mesa, Ariz.
He was born Oct. 26, 1952 in Clovis to Stella Woodburn and J. Willard Davis.
He was a self-employed general contractor. He farmed in the Grier Community, sold insurance, and was employed by Clovis Sign Co. before moving to Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his father and four grandparents, Gardner “Mack” Macray and Sally Vera (Osborn) Davis and Arthur Coffin and Willie Mae (Gilpin) Woodburn.
He is survived by four daughters: Jennifer Bozeman (and husband, Derek) of Idalou, Texas, Ami Schueler (Kevin) of Rhea, Texas, Nikki Dodd (Burl) of Portales and Kylee Cain (Kyle) of Pleasant Hill; two grandchildren: Bailey and Landry Bozeman of Idalou, Texas; his mother of Chandler, Ariz.; and a sister, Caryn Lansford (Treece) of Chandler, Ariz.
Lonnie Mitchell will officiate at the graveside services.
Arrangements by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Mark Angelo Chavez Jr.
Services: 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Clovis.
Mark Angelo Chavez Jr., 2, of Alamogordo, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, in Albuquerque. He was born Oct. 31, 2002, to Mark Angelo Chavez and Victoria Falcon.
He is survived by his mother and father; two sisters, Amanda and Esperanza Falcon of Alamogordo; grandparents, Raymond and Gloria Falcon of Alamogordo, Dana and Peggy Bauder of Albuquerque, and Paul and Sherri Chavez of Clovis; and great-grandparents, Manuel and Esperanza Garcia of Portales.
Father Sotero Sena will officiate services.
Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis. Pallbearers will be Santiago Garcia, Edward Chavez, Barry Burch, and Michael Burnett.
Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.

Oscar Whitworth Jr.
Services: Have been held.
Mr. Oscar Whitworth, Jr., 88, of Portales, died Sept. 28, 2005 in Santa Fe.
He was born Nov. 3, 1916 in Kaufman County, Texas, to Myrtie and Oscar Whitworth.
He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and was a Phillips 66 gas and oil distributor in Portales for 35 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bertie Ruth Heflin; and a brother, Herman Whitworth.
He is survived by two daughters, Sissy Othick (and husband, Terry) of Albuquerque and Libby Sternberg (Milton) of Santa Fe; three grandchildren: Ashlee Othick of Albuquerque, Karla Sternberg of Houston, and Brock Sternberg (Rikke) of Copenhagen, Denmark; and two great-grandchildren: Liva and Ernst of Copenhagen.
